Beim Durchblättern der Rezepte für nicht-alltägliche Gemüsebeilagen des Weihnachtsjournals im Stern 49/2006 blieb ich bei Schwarzwurzeln in Haselnuss-Kräutersahne hängen. Das hörte sich sehr interessant an. Als dann auf unserem Wochenmarkt auch noch Schwarzwurzeln angeboten wurden, stand dem Rezept nichts mehr im Wege. Die Schwarzwurzel gehört zur selben Familie wie Topinambur und enthält ebenfalls Inulin, das bei empfindlichen Menschen Verdauungsprobleme auslösen kann. Sehr lecker! Meine Erwartungen wurden nicht enttäuscht. Ich kann nachvollziehen, warum selbst Spitzenköche "back to the roots" finden. Mangelwurzel Skittles is an ancient UK Westcountry game that has that magic combination of simplicity and stupidity. A mangel-wurzel (a large whitish-yellow root vegetable from the beetroot family) has a rope tied to it and this is then attached to the ceiling of the room. 'Skittles' are created by players standing on narrow 6 inch-high wooden blocks. Players are best arranged in a traditional diamond formation with location decided upon by drawing straws. The mangel-thrower then launches the mangelwurzel into the skittles.
