Perfect Brownies?Enter Chocolate Xanadu
2008-06-08 01:15:00 Seriously. You know it. I know it. Brownies need to be so chocolatey that they make you sweat. So moist you can carefully cut a slice out of the middle and push the two sides back together to make a whole brownie…and no one is the wiser… They need to be so amazing ...

We don't however, own it. And I have no money to rent it (I doubt my movie rental store would even have it... and now that I think about it the clerk behind the counter is so young they've probably never heard of it and would say 'what

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich - The Legend Of Xanadu (1968)
2007-10-04 08:30:00 Hook-laden tunes transformed Salisbury, Wiltshire, England-based quartet Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich into one the United Kingdom's top pop bands of the mid-'60s. Performing songs by their managers Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley, the group scored with such Top Ten U.K. hits as "Hold Tight," "Hideaway," "Bend It," "Save Me," "Okay," "Zabadak," "Last Night in Soho," and the chart-topper, "Legend of Xanadu." Formed as Dave Dee & the Bostons, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich were led by vocalist Dee (born: David Harman), an ex-policeman who had been at the scene of the automobile accident that took the life of American rocker Eddie Cochran and injured Gene Vincent in April 1960. Dee had taken Cochran's guitar from the accident and held it until it could be returned to his family. Although they were among the many British bands who honed their skills while performing in Hamburg, Germany, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich were one of the first to tour the United Kingdom with est...

Xanadu
2007-07-13 21:35:00 What a crazy little show, a combination of Broadway musical and “Saturday Night Live.” Actually it was more SNL than I would have liked, but anything that features, much less stars, Kerry Butler is OK with me. I wish I had seen the 1980 movie “Xanadu” before seeing this musical parody because I felt left out of some to the jokes. The woman behind me laughed hysterically throughout and the audience in general laughed from beginning to end. The premise has comic potential (silly comic potential) -- muses who come to life out of a sidewalk chalk mural find that rather than their intended destination of Venice in 1780, they have ended up in Venice Beach, CA, in 1980, which sets the stage for an evening full of jokes about that cultural wasteland of an era. Most were funny, but then instantly forgettable. The muses -- nine sisters, two of whom are gay men -- end up offering their inspiration to Sonny, the creator of the chalk art who is ready to commit suicide unt...

In Xanadu, William Dalrymple
2007-03-25 06:56:00 In Xanadu did Kubla KhanA stately pleasure-dome decree:Where Alph, the sacred river, ranThrough caverns measureless to manDown to a sunless sea.So twice five miles of fertile groundWith watts and towers were girdled round:And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills.Where blossom'd many an incense-bearing tree; And here were forests ancient as the hills.Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.Xanadu was romanticized by this poem of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. William Dalrymple was however, inspired by the travels of Marco Polo to make this mother of journeys from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to Xanadu (or Shangdu) in China. Like Marco Polo who presented Kubilai Khan with oil from the lamp at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Dalrymple too collects some at Jerusalem and ultimately pours it beneath what is now left of the throne of the Khan. The journey starts off at Jerusalem, Israel and covers Cyprus, Syria, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and China.Till Lahore, Pakistan, he is a...

Xanadu's My Snowy Valentine
2007-02-14 18:58:00 Happy Valentine's Day everyone I am sitting at home now at 11:48AM on a Wednesday due to the fact that we got our first snow day! =) The snow started falling late last night, and is supposed to continue all throughout the day today. A foot and a half is expected in most places, although up where I live I am hoping for 2 feet, because we always seem to get more here anyways :P We found out last night school would be closed today, although it wasn't too surprising because everyone knew they'd close school, haha. I think it'd be cool if they closed tomorrow too, since we have Friday and Monday off for President's day already, therefore we'd get this long break like Thanksgiving. xD I woke up around 10 this morning to ice pelting the windows and the smell of homemade pancakes downstairs so I didn't have a problem waking up today, haha (=I'm not sure exactly how I'll spend my snow day cooped up inside. I haven't gone sledding in a really long time, like no..I think I went once...
