Rather lightweight in Window Manager terms--weighing in at around 63MB--Xfce arrives with a full complement of applications from Abiword, gnumeric, and pidgin to CD/DVD burning software (Brasero), Thunar File Manager, and a host of administrative applications. For this article, I am reviewing the Xfce Fedora Spin based on Fedora 8 and Xfce4.

2007-11-17 07:35:00 Recibir a XFCE por primera vez puede ser, visualmente hablando, tan apatico y monotono que uno agradece (a modo de gran premio consuelo, por no desmerecer algo evidente) la velocidad y excelente manejo de recursos que tiene.Pero una vez que activas Composite, editas las barras a tu gusto e instalas un theme que te agrade con su respectivo pack de iconos, uno agradece que aparte de la velocidad y excelente manejo de recursos, que tambien pueda ser visulamente configurable.Instalar themes e iconos en XFCE no es algo que se realice automaticamente como en Gnome o KDE, uno tiene que crear en su directorio personal otras carpetas de nombre .themes y .icons para instalar los themes e iconos respectivamente. Luego con el administrador de configuracion abrir la lista del gestor de ventanas y el de interfaz para hacer lo cambios.xfcetm es una pequeña aplicacion que permite realizar la tarea de instalar y desinstalar themes e iconos de manera mas facil, pues con un par de clics el nuevo theme...

2006-12-26 22:13:01 Xfce4 es un entorno de escritorio o administrador de ventanas liviano, esta justo parado en el límite entre ser muy básico y no serlo, xfce4 es el escritorio que de momento estoy usando con bueno resultados ya que esta versión pre-empaquetada por Ubuntu no presenta los bug’s anteriores. Mientras escribo esta seudo introducción me asalta la siguiente duda. Xfce4 está basado en Gnome, podemos decir entonces que es el pariente liviano de él, pero Kde no tiene algún pariente liviano como Gnome? Existe un Xfce-Kde o proyecto de este?. Al instalarlo (basta un aptitude install xubuntu-desktop), y después de iniciarlo de inmediato se siente lo light que es, haciendo una comparación con Kde. Eso sí hay detalles que de momento no logro arreglar, pero Linux es así como la vida, todos los días hay un reto nuevo y algo que aprender….. Neruda Off.
