Highlights from BaseballAmerica.com: John Manuel Chat: New York Yankees Top
2012-01-06 21:11:00 BaseballAmerica.com: Prospects: New York Yankees Top 10 Kyle (St Louis): How many of your top 10 do you believe are worthy of making the top overall 100? John Manuel: I'm thinking the top five players, from Montero to Mason Williams, all make it. I thought I had four in my personal top 50 but double-checked and realize I left Gary Sanchez out of the top 50 this year, after running him way up last year. Big bat, lots of maturing yet to do. Kelly (St Cloud, MN): In last year's scouting report of Betances, you mentioned the possibility of him becoming a RP. Is this still a good possibility, or are the Yanks set on him starting? John Manuel: They seem to still want him to start. He'll never have refined command, and the bigger worry is that his 2010 season looks like the aberration. He had about 2.5 BB per 9 in '10 and was back around 5 per 9 in 2011, like he had been previously. I mentioned AJ Burnett in his writeup, not as a comp but as a simil...

The All-Time Best Yankees Team: Wrigley Field Version
2011-06-17 19:23:00 Ozzie Guillen and Peter Gammons may not be impressed with Wrigley Field -- but I was. Of all things, it was the mundane, out-of-date visitors locker room that left me in awe. Maybe there was no state-of-the-art furnishings/technology, and maybe it was a little cramped in there, but the only thing I could think of was..."Wow...Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig once roamed within these white-painted cement walls" The Babe, however, was not so impressed. This is what he had to say about Wrigley Field, "I'd pay half my salary if I could hit in this dump all the time." It could have been a great compliment were it not for the choice to use the word "dump" instead of "park" So...with the...

What's the difference, she says? $5,000 is like $5 for people like you and me. In her view, when we all go out to dinner they should always foot the entire bill (that kind of money is chump change for them!) It seems we all have a similar attitude toward the New York Yankees. Need someone to bail you out of a financial blunder or foot the entire bill? The Yankees will do it. An $18M contract for them is like a $5M contract for the rest of the league. It may take a...
Bet On MLB Baseball ? Yankees Aim To Get Back On Track Against Rays

It doesn?t get easier for the Yankees as they head out on the road to face Tampa Bay, who are looking to expand their lead in the American League East.Yankees Rays Betting ? Tuesday, 6:40 PM ETIvan Nova (3-3, 4.70) is coming off the worst outing of his young career, although to be fair, the Yankees didn?t do him any favors with a couple of errors in an 11-5 loss at home against Kansas City. Nova was knocked for eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits over three innings, along with two strikeouts and two walks, and he was taken deep twice as well. Those who bet on MLB baseball know that the Yankees are looking for help in their starting rotation, and this will be a test to see how Nova bounces back from a bad performance. The 24-year-old righthander doesn?t have a decision in two start...

Cubs Rumors: Nationals, Yankees interested in Silva
2011-03-13 08:36:00 According to ESPN's Bruce Levine, there were scouts on hand to see Silva pitch Sunday against the Reds. The Nationals seem most interested with 3 scouts in attendance. The Yankees are also said to be looking for pitching and had at least one scout on hand to see Silva's best performance of the spring, in which he gave up just 2 runs on 3 hits in 4 innings before tiring and giving up 2 more runs in the 5th. It's also important to note that Larry Rothschild is the Yankees pitching coach and he did a pretty good job resurrecting Silva last season -- at least in the first half. Before the game I was ambivalent as to Silva's performance. Yankees, Girardi Closing In On Three-Year Deal
2010-10-27 15:41:00 The Yankees and Joe Girardi are closing in on a deal that would keep the manager in pinstripes for three years and pay him a total of $9-10MM, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Girardi's contract expires this week, but he and the Yankees could finalize a new deal by today or tomorrow, according to Sherman. Girardi, 46, led the Yankees to the ALCS this year, where they lost to the Rangers. In three seasons under Girardi, the Yankees have won one World Series title and posted a 287-199 regular season record. Jon Heyman of SI.com reported yesterday that the Yankees were set to start talks with Girardi on a three-year deal worth about $3MM per season.

Yankees own Twins, Twins own White Sox, AL Postseason=BORING
2010-10-16 17:28:00 Here we are, beginning the ALCS, and I still haven't watched a minute of MLB's postseason. Really. And I'm so caught up in football right now, I'm not sure I will watch any of the World Series. Seriously.Where does my newfound baseball apathy come from? Well, I'm a White Sox guy, and an American League guy, so my boredom began with the Minnesota Twins treating the Chicago White Sox the way a pimp traditionally treats his "bottom bitch." Disappointing, but ultimately not a big deal because this is like Labor Day- it occurs every September. I knew it was all just a moot point because the New York Yankees treat the Twins like Joe Francis treats the subjects of his...

The Yankees Come and Go...
2010-09-20 17:37:00 The Orioles avoided a three-game sweep by the New York Yankees with a incredible walk-off win, 4-3, in front of slight less than 40,000 on Sunday afternoon.Despite losing a heartbreaker on Friday off a Alex Rodriguez go-ahead, three-run homer in the ninth and getting their arses handed to them on Saturday, the O’s fought back on in the final game of the set. Down 3-2 in the ninth, Luke Scott tied the game with a home run off Mariano Rivera and then earned the win in the 11th off Ty Wigginton’s double. What was more amazing is that the Orioles won a game they surely would have lost not too long ago. The bullpen came through a held the game in check, with Koji Uehara striking out the side in the 10th and Mike Gonzalez nearly blowing the game in the 11th, but getting a crucial double play with the bases loaded.New York had plenty of chances to finish off Baltimore, but they seemingly could not get the knockout punch.Although we all probably hoped that the Orioles could have taken tw...

Danks String of Dominance Ends; Sox Win Anyway, Beat Yankees 7-6
2010-05-02 01:59:00 So this is what an offense looks like. Despite John Danks not having his command and somehow managing to throw almost 120 pitches in 5 inning that weren't terrible, Scott Linebrink re-emerging as that useless guy we can never trust, and Randy Williams entering the game, the Sox offense manage to not roll over and die in response. While Gordon Beckham went 0-5 with three strikeouts in an extremely troubling game, he was also the only hitter who didn't reach base for the Pale Hose. Most importantly, after a disastrous sixth inning that saw the Yankees launch a back-breaking comeback that eerily mirrored last night, the Sox showed some mettle in rallying from behind on the road and shutting the door on a good offense down the stretch. I'd be weeping with pride if their record wasn't 10-14.
