GOP kittens tangled in own yarn? Their YOD says, Yes!
2011-12-22 16:46:00
Republican Kittens and Jupiter the Thespian 12.22.11by Jude CowellSometimes when people try to be 'too clever by half' they end up out-doing themselves instead of the people they work so hard to best. At least, my hope is that this is the case with the current Political Theater now showing on a Capitol Hill whose hijinks threaten to mess with Christmas 2011 for millions of disappointed Americans. So far, no wrapping is needed for we can clearly see that the American people's gift from the GOP as we enter 2012 is to be held hostage to ideological zealotry and an oath taken to what they consider a higher authority than the American people: Grover Norquist, famous for his no-tax-no-government psychosis of futurist utopianism.Click 'Grover Norquist' to view his natal horoscope where you can see the elusive, mask-wearing Sun/Neptune conjunction which is now being restricted by transiting Saturn in late Libra and forming a midpoint picture--n Sun/Neptune = tr Saturn: having the discip...

Crocheting with TLC Wiggles Yarn
2008-03-19 23:18:00
Today I started crocheting with TLC Wiggles Yarn. It is a very interesting yarn to work with.I LOVE all the flecks of color you get within the sea of green yarn. However, if you are a beginning crocheter I would recommend that you first crochet with a more basic yarn or else you will end up being frustrated. Here is why....When you first look at the yarn you will notice the little wiggles in the yarn. This is what makes the yarn so interesting. However upon closer inspection you will see the tiny little thread that is wound around the main acrylic thread. This tiny little thread can easily get caught on your hook when you are pulling your yarn through your loops. In addition, it is sometimes tricky to pull the wiggle through your loops (depending upon how tight you crochet).I like how this yarn looks in my project and am really looking forward to accenting the hat with several of the wiggle colors. I'll post a picture when I finish the hat. I am crocheting it to fit a small child.Ple...

This is the donated yarn I picked up from the Madison Crochet Guild. It is green TLC Wiggles Yarn.I have never crocheted with the wiggles yarn before and am excited to see how my hat pattern looks with it. The requirement for taking the donated yarn was to make something and donate it back to the community. I can't wait to work with this yarn.Have any of you used the TLC Wiggles Yarn before? If so....please post a comment and let me know what you crocheted and if you enjoyed using the yarn. Also, be sure to participate in our hat naming contest! We will be selecting a name soon and posting our very first pattern on our website at Knit and Crochet Hat Pattern.
Untangling Yarn Troubles

AAAAAAAAAAARG? And Yarn Pictures.
2008-02-15 02:31:00
So. Very. Frustrated. I’ve spent most of the evening trying to take pictures of yarns. Some I can get, but three greens, no matter what I do, come out looking WAY more blue than they are. I’ve tweaked, set and reset the white balance until I’m blue in the face, messed with lighting until I see ...

Have Wings, Will Cliff Jump For Yarn
2008-02-07 20:49:00
I am exhausted. I’ve lost weight from skipping meals. The washer broke this past weekend. (But is working now.) The vacuum died the same day. (And is not working now.) I am exhausted. I’ve gotten maybe three rounds on my Fireworks sock done. I’m out of several important dye supplies, that won’t get here until tomorrow. I’ve got yarns to list in the shop. Laundry to fold. Did I mention that I’m exhausted? But I’m so damn happy. I feel like I’ve jumped off a cliff head first with a running start and discovered that I’ve had wings all along. It’s exhilarating, terrifying and I’m loving every second of it. It’s amazing what three cones of yarn and the faith of friends and strangers alike can do to someone’s entire life. Heh. That’s a lot of yarn… and yet, I’ve got this killer urge to order more. And then roll around in it naked. But I’m not, really, I’m not. Well, not rolling...

Mystery yarn
2007-12-18 12:03:00
At the beginning of the year I saw this yarn in a sales bin at John Lewis. There was just the one bundle and there was no paperwork attached, so I have no idea what it's called or where it's from. I absolutely adore it and am in the process of turning it into a quick wee neck warmer, which may just make up a Christmas present. The yellow and pinky bits is a ribbon that runs through the bundle. Have you any idea what the yarn is called or where it's from? I would love to get some more. Sorry, the pictures aren't great - they're from my trusted mobile phone!
Newspaper Yarn
2007-12-16 14:34:00
Greetje van Tiem, a graduate from the academy's Man and Leisure department, presents her project 'Druk -in, - af' that turns old newspapers into yarn. Like a modern version of Rumpelstilskin, she turns old news into gold: 'A (thread) which comes from a memory. With the opening page of the Newspaper you can spin 20 meters of yarn; the news of today turned into textile (! : SB/Jb). The reels with yarn reflect specific moments from the past, can be turned into different kind of upholstery. The weekend newspaper from a romantic weekend, can end up as a living room curtain; the last week of the world championship soccer (with Dutch participation: SB/Jb) transforms into a carpet with a touch of orange. And when you look closely, here and there a word, or a piece of date. The paper is gone but the memory remains.' Phrase of the Day 168: 'spin a yarn'
2007-12-10 22:38:00
"to spin a yarn"definition: to tell a tale/story.example: "Are you spinning me a yarn?...or are you telling me the truth?"origin: In the old days, women used to spin yarn on spinning wheels. They frequently did this in groups and, to pass the time, they often told each other stories. In time the words came to mean the production of the stories themselves.
What Matters Most Isn?t the Felted Yarn in the Closet

that yarn store
2007-11-18 06:29:00
Having promised a childhood friend we'd learn to knit together as my bday gift to her, (that's right - we're 30 going on 70!), I went on a hunt to find the perfect yarn shop for our hot hooking adventure. It turns out there are plenty of shops all around town, and they each offer classes and sell yarn of some sort or another, but when I stumbled across the website for That Yarn Store on Eagle Rock Blvd., I knew I'd found the spot. This is a mom and pop shop - recently relocated from a store front around the corner on Colorado - staffed and run entirely by family. Everything about this place is comfy and homey, from the handwritten notes on the door describing new groups and events, the decor (it's set up like a cozy living room with rocking chairs, sofas and an ample coffee table covered with snacks), the music (it was some indy electro jazz while we were there), and most especially, the people.A couple of months ago I thought it would be relaxing for me to take up knitting, but...

Fiber FAQ: Dyeing Yarn With Zip Ties

I love to dye yarn. I hate to untangle yarn. But you know what? Invariably, the dyeing of yarn is followed by at least one hour of untangling yarn. I could avoid most of it by simply being very, very, very careful with the yarn when dyeing it. But as most dyers know, to really ...
