Bye-bye Boise (hello D.C.?)
2008-05-15 20:47:00
Column by Patrick Hite patrick@accnation.com Most of the news coming out of the ACC’s spring meetings was expected — no 18-game schedule in basketball or 9-game schedule in football– but I thought the best news this week was that, after 2008, the ACC won’t be affiliated with the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho. Despite what John Swofford said ...
Random thoughts from the outsider
2008-05-14 16:37:00
Column by Will Ojanen will@accnation.com Shortly after the recent NFL Draft, ESPN’s Todd McShay posted a first round mock draft for 2009. I know it’s a year early, but it’s always interesting to gauge who the so called draft experts really like coming in to the next season. Should ACC hoops split into divisions?
2008-05-07 05:25:00
Column by Patrick Hite patrick@accnation.com Poll: What format would you like to see? The ACC’s athletics directors will discuss a possible 18-game schedule for men’s basketball at next week’s spring meetings. ACC baseball power poll ? April 28
2008-04-28 16:30:00
Virginia took the largest drop this week and, if I could have justified it, I would have dropped them farther. If it wasn’t for Clemson, UVa. would be the most disappointing team in the ACC this year. Sure, the Cavaliers have 32 wins overall and a winning record in the conference, but they haven’t won a ...

ACC Nation baseball power poll - April 21
2008-04-21 17:02:00
Here is the power poll for this week. We had our first tie of the season, with Clemson and Duke getting rained out in the 11th inning Sunday with the scored tied at six. What’s wrong with Clemson? Weren’t the Tigers supposed to be good? Is it just that I haven’t paid attention much before this week, ...

The word is upset. First there was sixth-seed Florida State knocking off third-seed Miami. Then there’s stunning upset. Canes Sweep Yellow Jackets
2008-04-14 03:33:00
Tough weekend to be a Canes fan. Yes, Miami dominated the 10th ranked Georgia Tech team, topping them 10-5, 15-5, and 9-3. However, the victories come with a heavy heart as the series initially had to be postponed due to the premature death of GT pitcher Michael Hutts. You never want to play teams facing this sort of situation. Either they'll rally around their fallen teammate and beat you, or their heads will understandably not be in the game and the victory means little. There are more important things sometimes than W's and L's. My condolences go out to the GT family.Game 1 saw the return of freshman Chris Hernandez's excellent form, as the lefty pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Not quite the dominating stuff of earlier this season, but certainly an improvement from his last outing. His outstanding arm was backed up by the Canes bats that had disappeared earlier this week. Five different players managed to collect 3 hits each.Game 2 was played later that day and pr...
