The Only Way to Travel Yellowstone in Winter

I was watching PBS last week (yeah I got me some culture) and there was a Nature episode about Yellowstone National Park at Christmas time. Always on the prowl for vehicle-related stuff, I was intrigued by the tracked transport vehicles that were shown briefly during the show. Back at work the

Did you know that Wyoming has its own Grand Canyon? Measuring a half-mile wide and about 900-feet deep, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone National Park is about 20 miles long. That's much shorter than Arizona's 227-mile long Grand Canyon, but the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone has natural wonde

What do the thermal features at Yellowstone National Park look like? While most geysers spout upward in the air, fumaroles are a bit a smaller. Simply put, these steam vents lack the "punch" to push the water up very far. Want to see for yourself? Let's take a trip to Roaring Mountain, which

Tree – elk – wolf – tree. Sounds like a simple ecological system, right? In Yellowstone National Park, however, it's a balance that park rangers are doing their best to manage and maintain. Just as in any place, species depend upon one another to survive.

Coyote in Winter - Yellowstone National Park

Photography of Greg Rothschild People familiar with coyotes of southern climates often mistake the coyote in this photo for a wolf. With that beautiful thick fur it?s no wonder, but coyote (canis latrans) it is. This particular animal was photographed in Yellowstone National Park in the middle of winter (hence the thick coat). I was with ...

Yellowstone volcano rising at quick pace
2007-11-09 03:25:00
Yellowstone?s ancient volcanic floor has been rising since mid-2004 because a blob of molten rock the size of Los Angeles infiltrated the system 6 miles beneath the surface, scientists say, but there is no risk of an eruption.
Yellowstone volcano?
2007-11-08 23:49:00
So… the ground at Yellowstone Park has been rising at a rate of about 3 inches per year for the last three years, leading experts to believe that magma is filling a crustal magma chamber: From AP: That is more than three times faster than ever observed since such measurements began in 1923, the researchers said. “Our best evidence is that the crustal magma chamber is filling with molten rock,” Smith said in a statement. “But we have no idea how long this process goes on before there either is an eruption or the inflow of molten rock stops and the caldera deflates again.” It’s not unusual for ancient volcano sites like Yellowstone and Long Valley, Calif., to rise and fall, according to the researchers. The Yellowstone volcanic field was produced by what the researchers described as a plume of hot and molten rock beginning at least 400 miles beneath Earth’s surface and rising to 30 miles underground, where it widens to about 300 miles across. ...

Yellowstone and its latent supervolcano
2007-09-19 18:57:00
Yellowstone National Park is located in the USA, in the Rocky Mountains, in the northeast of Wyoming and bordering with Montana and Idaho. It was the first place in the world that received the treatment of National Park. It was named this way by Theodor Roosevelt in 1872.Under the Yellowstone Park there's a geological phenomenon called supervolcano. A supervolcano is a kind of volcano that produces bigger and more devastating eruptions. A simple volcano, when erupts, becomes a great danger that can destroy with its rivers of lava and sulfuric vapours all that encounters in its way. A supervolcano is thousands times more dangerous. It can destroy everything in hundreds of miles around it, alter the global climate of the planet, and become a cataclysm for all the Earth, similar to a nuclear winter. The supervolcano located in Yellowstone is the biggest in the world. This supervolcano had 3 big known eruptions. The last one was 640,000 years ago. The time between those eruptions was fro...

I know I didn't write in a while now, but i was so f*cking busy these days, probably it will be like that till i come home. But I had the time to get one day off and visit the famous national park Yellowstone. I don't know how you imagine it, but i can tell you its better than you think :PThe place is huge. We left Jackson around 4 AM to get early in the morning to see the also famous geyser Old Faithful."Old Faithful" is a big geyser that left us with "whoaaaaa" and "uhhhhhhhhhhhh" ' s :D It was awesome, can't describe it, let the pictures speak! One thing that from now will come in my mind when you say Yellowstone is G E Y S E R S ! There are hundred of those in the park, maybe thousands. Everywhere i gone there was one. Of course not as the Old Faithful. One amazing place is The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Its like a smaller version of the Grand Canyon, although its HUGE, I can't imagine how big the Grand Canyon be. Maybe we will make a trip to Las Vegas and see.
Yellowstone
2007-08-24 14:57:00
Randy and I are planning a month long trip to Wyoming to see Yellowstone National Park. We are planning on going the last two weeks in May/the first two weeks in June. I’m looking up all kinds of things to do and see along the way and one of the cool things they have online now are webcams of Old Faithful. how cool. I thought you get a kick out of this Liz. I’ll be posting loads of links on Del.icio.us if your interested join my network. We’ll be driving through KY up to Chicago and over to Yellowstone so if anyone is along the way and wants to mention a site or a good place to check out please feel free. We’ll be camping with the boys along the way. No, I’m not scared to camp with them. We’ll do a trial run in early October to make sure it’s not too terrible. How bad can it be to camp with two very hyper kiddos? Please don’t answer that!  Olie will hopefully stay with Maw Maw and Paw paw…although I have yet to ask them.
