Yo Gabba Gabba: Attack of the Housedad Doppelganger
2008-01-25 19:03:00 Upon the advice of fellow SAHD Joeprah and my good friend Danielle, I introduced my child to the infectious wonderment of Yo Gabba Gabba, a children's show on Nick Jr. I found some older episodes on Comcast on Demand and decided I would give it a shot. Holy Christ, I don't think I have ever had so much fun watching a children's show. The songs that are played on this show are beat-heavy and engaging. The music will bore its way deep into your skull, set up shop, and send signals to the rest of your body to jerk and gyrate uncontrollably. I giggle constantly at my little one as she moves and shakes to the `80's-infused hip-hop beats. The characters on the show are super colorful and the different segments with these monsters always has some sort of life-lesson involved. Stuff like learning how to brush your teeth or not to cut in line. Then there's the host of the show: DJ Lance Rock (Lance Robertson of west-coast indie music fame) I look at him and I think: Were we separa...

Yo! Gabba Gabba?
2007-09-24 17:27:00 So, by now you may have noticed that there is a new show on the Nick Jr. line-up. In case you don’t want to go through the trouble of watching the show to find out what it is about (see perfectly understandable) then continue reading to find out what I have concluded. Yo Gabba Gabba (http://www.nickjr.com/shows/yo--gabba-gabba/index.jhtml) is a surreal show that starts with a DJ opening a boom box and placing characters into a cartoon playground—in which they come to life. The DJ resides above the cartoon world and interacts and watches his little toy creatures as they dance with Elijah Woods (weird), practice good manners and sing catchy songs with a house beat. What is the verdict then? While Elijah Woods dancing was disturbing on many levels and some of the portions of the show are just odd, it is all about the music. The songs are so freaking catchy that I think I will start putting them onto the ol' mp3 player for my enjoyment—seriously. Check out th...
Elijah Wood on Yo Gabba Gabba
2007-09-03 15:46:00 This is insane. Elijah Wood on a NickJr show for preschoolers, Yo Gabba Gabba? Actually, he’s pretty good. He should get his own kids show and be like the next Steve and Joe from Blue’s Clues. Or not. *shakes head* Share This

Yo Gabba Gabba!
2007-02-16 01:03:02 YO GABBA GABBA!, a wacky variety show that combines live-action elements with puppets and animation, has been picked up by Nick Jr. for twenty half-hour episodes after becoming a viral hit on the internet last summer. What really excites me about the project is the unique vision these guys seem to have. This isn’t just another SESAME STREET rip-off - if anything, it’s more of a spiritual successor. YO GABBA GABBA!’s got a bold and dynamic energy, a fresh take on the genre, and an adorably catchy theme song. If this is the future of children’s television, then I like what I see. Despite being an avid Jim Henson fan, the lapse in quality and ingenuity between the original SESAME STREET and what airs today leaves much to be desired. What was once a groundbreaking show has become stale, so I’m glad someone’s picking up the creative slack in the children’s television department, and I can’t wait to see what a full episode looks like. Meanwh...
