Video: Thom Yorke Dedicates Song To ?Twat? US President
2008-04-29 15:45:00
As we wrote earlier, Radiohead performed via satellite for Conan O’Brien last week to save a trip to NYC and cut down on emissions. In the video of the performance below, you’ll see lead singer Thom Yorke reveal to us that the chorus of the song is “Denial, Denial” and as such it’s dedicated to ...

Things Thom Yorke taught me.
2008-03-03 02:12:00
Click on the image to the right to see the full size page. I listen to a lot of Radiohead. Radiohead, for those of you unfamiliar with the band, is an English Band, heavily influenced by REM and having gone on to influence acts such as Muse, Snow patrol, Oasis and Blur. They have also revolutionized the way music has sold, even the most conservative of us must admit that their Album release last year- In Rainbows- Created a ripple that was felt the world over. Thom Yorke, the writer and singer, aside from a peculiar ethereal quality to his voice, is a writer of some of the deep, and evocative lines I have had the pleasure of hearing. In the same manner that the works of Leonard Cohen are disparaged as depressing, Thom Yorke, and Radiohead in general is reputed to be music that makes people want to kill themselves. It?s odd, because at the very surface, if you take no more than impressions on board, you could look at it as very depressing music. The sort of thing that would ma...

Thom Yorke - The Eraser
2007-12-18 10:10:00
THOM YORKE - And It Rained All Night (Burial Remix)/Skip Divided (Modeselektor Remix)/ Analyse (Various Remix)BOOMKAT EXCLUSIVE! The first of three digital EP's only available from us here at Boomkat for a while, later to be made available on three limited twelves sometime in early 2008! So how's about this for a lineup - Thom Yorke remixed by Burial, Modeselektor, Various Production, Cristian Vogel, Four Tet, The Field, Surgeon and The Bug?! A mouthwatering proposition, and the first of these three EP's opens with the mighty Burial remix, another shocking arrangement of impossibly squashed percussion and unknown samples weaved in an out of Thom Yorke's ever-so-delicately manipulated voice. It's predictably mighty, and is worthy of the cost of admission alone. Thom Yorke favourites Modeselektor are up next, their reworking of Skip Divided pitching down the vocals almost imperceptibly, harrowing strings adding structure while the beats link up as tight and nervous as ever. Vario...

Thom Yorke Speaks On Solo Album
2007-11-21 17:06:00
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has claimed that working as a solo artist is "dull". Yorke released his debut solo album The Eraser last year to critical acclaim (and rightly so, it was a masterpiece of an album) but he explained: "It was kind of dull [working on my own]. It was deeply unsatisfying because you weren't sharing much of the process but then I got back with the band and it was like 'Oh my god, there's all these other other people I have to work with now'." On a semi-related note, Thom Yorke's bandmate Ed O'Brien has stated that Yorke needs more persuading on the idea of Radiohead touring next year. We can only hope that it'll happen, as the band can only be described as Gods. On the idea of playing festivals Thom said: "That collective experience. Thousands of people in a field wanting the same thing, going to the same place, with the same mindset. I think that's really important." So festival appearances definitely seem to be a possibility at present.
Yorke paid nothing for own album
2007-11-21 06:26:00
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has admitted he was among the thousands of people who paid nothing to download the band's latest album. Last month the group released In Rainbows online and invited fans to set their own price. Speaking to BBC 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, Yorke said: "There wasn't any point. I just move some money from one pocket to the other." According to one survey, three in five people paid nothing at all for it.

New Yorkers Pay Extremely High Closing Costs
2007-10-20 06:06:00
New Yorkers still paying highest closing costs in the nation - For the third year in a row Bankrate.com ranked New York's closing costs as the most expensive in the nation. On average, New Yorkers pay $3,830 to close a $200,000 mortgage; more than $1,000 more than the national average of $2,736. The addition of local and state real-estate-related taxes hikes the average final closing cost in New York to $7,194. New Yorkers pay nearly double the national average of $3,681 and 60 percent more than the least expensive state, Indiana, where residents pay a total of $2,339 for the same mortgage. New York's origination fees, title insurance, attorney costs and of course high taxes contribute to the hefty final price tag on a home purchase in the Empire State. Naked New Yorker wanders around nude in Times square New York City
2007-10-13 21:26:00
A man says he was having a "bad day." What do you do when you are having a bad day in New York? Why take off all your clothes and wander around Times Square naked I guess. That's what a 26 year old Yale graduate did on Thursday. Now, in my opinion this really has nothing to do with nude recreation. The poor man was obviously distraught and not trying to promote nudism. He was just a little crazy. This story was reported at gothamist.com which is a New York gossip site. The reason I think this story is important is the writer didn't know that it is legal for women to go topless in the state of New York. Since 1992, with a court decision, it has been legal for New York women to be topless anywhere men are allowed to be topless. The city of New York even had to pay an artist $29,000 for false arrest because she was topless. For the full story click hereTo me that is the real story. Women have the right to be topless in New York and not many people know about it. There's the real crime....
Thom Yorke - The Eraser [2006]
2007-10-12 09:42:00
Amazon.com Some writers and fans have taken to calling this album Kid B, the (obvious) implication that it’s the companion piece to Radiohead’s masterpiece of electronic rock. And while The Eraser does compare favorably to that work, it’s no longer ahead of its time, just simply of its time. We can’t all be visionaries all the ...

a re-established New Yorker visits Pittsburgh
2007-09-10 17:22:00
Back in Pittsburgh for a week-long visit. When I was here last, Spring had just begun. The Steelers had not made a dent in the football season. I had left for good.My Jet Blue flight involved an empty seat to my left, a window to my right, and beyond the window hung the clouds: white and serene, looking down the green grey haze below. The XM satellite video channels weren't working, so I audio-browsed; but I soon gave up as frequent, ear-splitting announcements broke through the headphones: "thank you for flying Jet Blue"..."a snack of crackers and a choice of soda or water will soon be served. thank you for choosing to fly Jet Blue"..."the seat-belt sign will soon be turned off as soon as our captain reaches the altitude of 26,000 feet. we hope you enjoy the flight, please remain seated until the sign is turned off. and thank you for flying Jet Blue"A mere hour of flight from JFK in NY to Pittsburgh Airport. It would have taken about 9 hours driving by car or riding the Amtrak trai...

New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty A Message to Long Islanders

Colleen Eren, Organizer, New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty is a friend of mine and we keep in constant contact. She would like to get more Suffolk County, Long Islanders on board. I told her I will try to help her any way I can. If you live in Suffolk County, Long Island and would like to become a member, contact Colleen Eren at www.nyadp.org. Here is something Colleen wrote. As a woman living in Brooklyn, trust me, I care about reducing violence in New York. Who wouldn't fully support the idea of lowering crime rates, making the streets safer, having fewer murders against civilians and police officers? Even if it takes some of my hard-earned taxpayer dollars, I consider it a worthwhile investment if these dollars went to improving DNA data bases so we could find repeat offenders. I would consider it worthwhile if these dollars went to funding domestic violence services, to better police training and resources, to gang interdiction programs, to resources for victims of violence....
KT Tunstall question Thom Yorke's eco ways
2007-08-21 06:14:00
Scottish singer/songwriter KT TUNSTALL has pledged her support for fellow environmentally aware musician THOM YORKE - but insists he doesn't need to abandon his career to save the planet. The Radiohead frontman last year (06) voiced his concerns over the green credentials of touring as a band, and suggested he might refrain from going on the road again as a result. But Tunstall has urged Yorke to continue touring, as his influence will help entice fans into being environmentally aware. She says, "I don't agree with that argument (that touring in bad for the environment). He (Yorke) puts out less carbon output than a massive conglomerate company. And that massive conglomerate company can do nothing, or isn't interested in doing anything in raising awareness about the problem. But Thom Yorke's got an incredible voice and there's no point in sabotaging that."And someone like (him), I'm like please go on tour! Because so many people will follow what you say, because they really respe...

New Yorkers Dipping Into the Pinkberry Lifestyle
2007-08-11 01:22:00
It?s rising to fame as a swirly goodness for healthy-dessert lovers, a fresh low-fat/no-fat/no sugar concoction of frozen yogurt and fruit to tantalize your tastebuds. The Pinkberry concept has taken off on the West Coast with smashing success, and now New Yorkers are joining in the trend of indulging (sans dessert guilt) at the newest Pinkberry on the block. While the Beverly Hills location enjoys plenty of sunshine ?swirling daily,? New York is counting down to its fifth location in the West Village. Right now, the lines reach out to the curb during rush hour at 32nd Street, Chelsea, Spring Street, and the Upper East Side locations. But what?s the fascination with this frozen yogurt sensation? The Pinkberry menu aims to please both exotic and simple tastes with clever combinations of green tea and vanilla, swirled with healthfully tasty toppings of granola, raspberries, dark chocolate, or mangos. . . better yet, try them all. The shaved ice plate offers mixed fruit, mochi, s...

2007-08-09 04:08:00
Congrats! To New Yorker Matt Murphy, who dived into the scrum and came up with the ball from Barry Bonds' historic and record-breaking 756th homerun. With 250 San Franciscans and one New York Mets fan fighting for the ball, it was a no contest for the Mets' fan to come up bloodied but hanging on to a ball that will bring him around $300,000 to $400,000 bucks; the Bay Area fans had no chance.I know this because even though as a child my family lived in Brooklyn, once I graduated from Our Lady of Loretto School, I went to Aviation High School in Queens, and my High School was only a few subway stops away from Shea Stadium, so every year I'd watch 30-40 Mets games. Half the fun was watching the fights in the stands, so Matt, as a Mets fan, was well-trained.Back then people would order a beer, which came in a plastic cup, and then they'd start stacking the plastic cups atop each other as they drank more and more. At some point in the game, usually towards the later innings, the cup st...

New Yorkers Have Learned We Can Live Without The Death Penalty
2007-08-05 03:02:00
Passage of Yet Another Death Penalty Bill Called CynicalOn July 16, the New York State legislature responded to the tragic death of a police officer shot in the line of duty by passing its third death penalty bill this year. Below is a statement on the Senate?s action by David Kaczynski, Executive Director of New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty.July 16 2007 - ?We join all New Yorkers in grieving for the recent loss of Police Officer Timoshenko, and other officers and troopers who have died in the service of all of us. ?But State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno knows that today?s passage of a death penalty bill all but identical to one passed earlier this year is a cynical and empty gesture that has no chance of becoming law. ?He knows, as New Yorkers have learned, that the death penalty does not represent swift or sure punishment. No one has been executed in New York in 44 years. ?It is unconscionable that Senator Bruno has led his chamber in this cynical exercise without addr...

Modeselektor: “The White Flash” (Feat. Thom Yorke)
2007-07-22 03:04:00
I’d first heard of Modeselektor from an interview with Thom Yorke where he mentioned the band as being one of his favorites. So perhaps its only fitting that the penultimate track, “The White Flash,” on the upcoming Happy Birthday LP, features the Radiohead icon’s trademark cooing vocals and lyrics. [MP3] Modeselektor - The White Flash (Feat. Thom Yorke) The rest of Modeselektor’s upcoming album is just as complex, with haunting electronic beats and jarring atmospherics. Modeselektor’s music is the type that can trigger blissful delirium in even the sanest of jellyfish. I’d also suggest it as leading to the augmentation of pollen production in some species of shallow-water lillies, which certainly makes the bees happy. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
