Yorkfield R0 stepping to arrive
2008-05-28 16:43:00 Fudzilla - Yorkfield R0 stepping to arrive: "We learned that Intel is about to release a new stepping for its Yorkfield quad-core CPUs. The name will be R0-stepping and this new stepping should be better than the current C1-stepping.The new stepping will arrive with a new batch of Yorkfield CPUs, and let’s hope that this will increase the yields and efficiency of a pair of dual-core 45nm stitched together into a quad-core socket 775 CPU.As we still don’t know what kind of improvement you should expect from it, we're expecting slightly better TDP and thermals, but this doesn’t have to be the case."

AMD's 45nm In 2008 To Compete With Intel
2007-12-11 13:51:00 If you watch Smallville you know what 33.3 is, and if you don't, then K10.5 is the new codename for AMD's K10 manufactured at 45 nanometer.Anyway, the primary goal that AMD has for 2008 is to switch to 45 nanometers as soon as possible. The new K10.5 will produce a faster cache latency, as well as improved imc, and these were exactly the weak points of the K10.Both the B2 and B3 revision of the K10 would benefit a lot from a faster cache latency and an improved imc. AMD hopes to give the Yorkfield processors a run for their money with this improved core.Let?s hope to see K10.5 around Computex, at the latest. Source

Intel 45nm Yorkfield Runs On 975X Motherboard
2007-12-01 17:24:00 Hot Hardware gotten more than a few inquiries from readers, since they launched our Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (aka Yorkfield) article, about whether or not the new 45nm quad-core chip from Intel will play nice in legacy motherboards. The party line from Intel is that while technically, Yorkfield quad-core processors are not supported by chipsets like the 975X and P965, some motherboard manufacturers may choose to validate and support the product. They've recently been able to prove out that on at least one 975X board, the Asus P5W64WS Pro, using one of Intel's new 45nm Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processors. More than likely any 45nm quad-core Intel processor as well is a go.Source

Intel QX9650 Yorkfield finally comes out - The INQUIRER
2007-11-01 16:39:00 Intel QX9650 Yorkfield finally comes out - The INQUIRER: "INTEL IS FINALLY unveiling the 45 nm Yorkfield QX9650 Core 2 Extreme part, some seven months after the first salvo of seemingly fully-functional benchmark demo systems flooded the expo halls of Beijing IDF. Why not come out earlier? Well, there was obviously no competition to rush against this year, so they could take some sweet time to fine tune the process. The very first chip is a good test run for tuning its more important 'watershed ' successor on the same process, the Nehalem. And thie ship has seen some serious tuning. The QX9650 part is, by default, a 3GHz FSB1333 - multiplier 9 - part. But few of the 'early adopters' shelling out $1K or so for it will run the CPU at anywhere close that speed. [Image]"

Yorkfield is a Ray-Trace monster
2007-08-22 18:16:00 CHIPZILLA SHOWED A DEMONSTRATION of Ray-Tracer on its latest processors, and we have to say that the demo was quite a surprise to us. Who knows, maybe in a year CPUs might be good for graphics again. The reason for this is because of the advances made by the RT group inside Intel. Daniel Pohl, author of Quake III and IV Ray-Trace demonstrations held a presentation that showed that Ray-Trace came from 4FPS in 640x480 resolution on a 50 Xeon CPUs machine to over 90 FPS (frames per second) in 768x768 on a single machine with Yorkfield processor running at sub-3GHz clockspeed. The demo machine was based on a Gigabyte's X38 motherboard, two AMD Radeon HD 2900XT cards in CrossFire mode, Corsair memory, and Intel 45nm quad-core processor, known to most people as Yorkfield. However, graphics part was not used at all, so you could have GeForce 8400 or Radeon HD 2400, this render would work as fast. Source: The Inquirer

Intel Wolfdale and Yorkfield launch clocks revealed
2007-08-04 13:55:00 AS THE TIME of launch for new processors approaches, more and more interesting information starts to leak from Taiwan. Thanks to our friends at Au-ja.de, we hear that motherboard vendors are now testing 45nm Penryn processors. These tests are regularly done to prepare BIOS updates for motherboards that are already present, and to discover possible incompatabities - something that makers of Socket 775 motherboards are very well aware of. We hear that motherboard makers are in possession of four different processors of the Penryn generation: two Wolfdales and two Yorkfields. Wolfdale is a dual-core, single-die processor core with integrated 6MB of L2 cache, and the clock-speeds in play are 2.33 and 2.66GHz. Since these rely on the 1.33GHz FSB,the multiplier is set at 7x333 for the 2.33GHz part and 8x333 for the 2.66GHz one. Yorkfield is simply waht Conroe was to Kentsfield: two Wolfdale dies are placed onto single Socket 775 organic package - so the amount of L2 cache ...
