4/29 DREAM 2 - Akiyama not participating
2008-04-21 13:32:00 Today it is confirmed, Akiyama will not be participating in DREAM 2 and the middleweight GP. Reason is not only a knee injury that was earlier reported, but also fracture in the nose. It seems the knee was ok, but the nose injury is the reason the doctor but a stopper for him entering the tournament.Either way, no Akiyama this time. "For the adversity I created from the fight on New Year's Eve, I sincerely would like to apologize to everyone involved, the TV stations, sponsors, fans, and finally Mr. Sakuraba." Akiyama was extremely apologetic at the press conference held on October 4th in Tokyo. For the man who violated the rules by applying Oren's lotion all over his body prior to the fight against Kazushi Sakuraba this type of manner, attitude was expected, and also, very appropriate. This last nine months must have been a living hell for Akiyama. In Japan this was way more than the violation of the rules, it was perhaps trampling on the code of conduct, indeed the code of the Samurai. On top of this Akiyama is a fourth-generation Korean, not a Japanese citizen.
