ZDNet says WordPress not clunky, but also not CMS
2007-12-21 22:27:00
Larry Dignan over at ZDNet writes about the media’s relationship with CMS systems, particularly his own past experiences with custom-built CMS systems. He says that “when it comes to ease of use, a blog platform beats or [sic] average CMS hands down.” So he asks why it is that he’s always getting stuck with some clunky, Frankenstein-like CMS system when he could happily and easily use something like WordPress. And he basically asks if people in the media industry will ever figure out that they don’t have to reinvent the wheel, since it already exists. But what struck me the most about this article was the Update at the end, where he says that he was corrected by Dennis Howlett, who pointed out that WordPress isn’t actually a CMS. This is something that I really don’t get. WordPress manages content, does it not? Then why isn’t it a CMS? How come I can call the awful, clunky systems that I used before WordPress CMS systems, even though t...

Apple?s iPhone amazing Touch screen: ZDnet review
2007-03-21 09:49:00
If you think Apple's iPhone touch screen is just a neat cell phone interface you're missing the big picture?and possibly three to four years of new products. That's the message from UBS analyst Benjamin Reitzes.According to Reitzes, the iPhone and its touch screen interface signal the beginning of a multi-year product cycle. The analyst argues that Apple is likely to see "a replay of the iPod multiplier effect." That term refers to what happened when Apple launched the iPod, offered new online services around it and sold more Macs along the way.In other words, Reitzes sees the iPhone touch screen fueling years of new Apple products. Is there any reason that the iPhone touch screen won't make it to the iMac, iPod or any of Apple's products? Here's what Reitzes says in a research note: "We believe the multi-touch platform initially to be shown in the upcoming iPhone can be integrated into several products, including Macs and iPods, facilitated by Apple's software and retail eco...

I find it rather interesting that even though I said no newsletters when subscribing to ZDNet.com with the spammailbag.com address I still managed to get newsletters from them… Newsletters with such horrid HTML that they actually fubar’d the site to the point where I had to remove one of them… The other I have left and after following the unsubscribe link it now says I’m actually not getting newsletters… I’m curious to see what will show up in my mailbox tomorrow. I’ve submitted this story to digg — http://digg.com/security/SpamMa-ilBag_com. Feel free to jump over there and bump up the level on it. I want to see how many people are harvesting addresses from digg. I’m also looking for other places to sign up / place addresses so if you have any ideas… please let me know. Peace, HT
