The importance of Zikr (Remembrance)
2007-12-02 13:01:00
Yahya related to me from Malik that Ziyad ibn Abi Ziyad said that Abu?d-Darda had said, ?Shall I not tell you the best of your deeds, and those that give you the highest rank, and those that are the purest with your King, and are better for you than giving gold and silver, and better for you than meeting your enemy and striking their necks?? They said, ?Of course.? He said, ?Remembrance (dhikr) of Allah ta ala.? (Imam Malik: Muwatta Book 15 No 15.7.24) Malik related to me from Nuaym ibn Abdullah ibn al-Mujmir from AIi ibn Yahya az-Zuraqi from his father that Rifaa ibn Rafi said, ?One day we were praying behind the Messenger of Allah, (SAW), when the Messenger of Allah, (SAW), raised his head from ruku and said, ?Allah hears the one who praises Him? (Sami Allahu liman hamidah). A man behind him said, ?Our Lord, praise belongs to you - blessed, pure and abundant praise? (Rabbana wa laka?l hamd kathiran tayiban mubarakan fihi). When the Messenger of Allah, (SAW), had finished, he said,...

There are a few things in my life that consistently offer a feeling of freshness and renewal. One is wudu’, the ritual ablution Muslims perform before prayer, its impact on the soul is a significant one. After performing the wudu’ one has a strong sense of cleanliness and purity that can be felt for long ...

Chechen Muslims Make Hadra and Zikr
2007-10-01 22:33:00
This is one of my favorite video clips. It features a gathering of Chechen Muslims, from the Qadiri Sufi Association, reciting, “la ilaha illa Allah”, “there is no god but the One God”. Every time I watch this clip it makes the hairs on the back on my neck stand-up! SubhanAllah! Glory be to Him, ...

Prophet Muhammad's advice on Zikr (Dhikr), Divine Remembrance
2007-04-16 17:59:00
Hadrat Ali, May God be please with him, asked our Master the Prophet, peace be upon him, to teach him the easiest, the most valuable, the most immediate way to salvation. Our Master the Prophet waited for the angel Gabriel to bring the answer from the Divine Source. He came and taught our Master to say, "La ilaha" - there is no god, no other reality - while turning his blessed face to the right;and to say "illa-Allah" - but God alone, Allah alone, the Supreme Reality alone - while turning his face to his left, towards his blessed pure heart. Our Master, the Prophet repeated this 3 times; and then taught it to Ali, making him repeat it 3 times. Then he taught the Divine Witnessing of Grand Unity, Oneness (Tawhid) in the same manner to his companions. Ali was the first to ask for it and was the first to be taught.- From the book The Secret of Secrets (Sirr al-Asrar) by Hadrat 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (1077-1166), may God sanctify his secrets.:: This is a beautiful example of Zikr (Dhikr...

The One who creates adversity or distress in order to discourage or correct wrongful behavior.. The One whose wisdom may use situations that have an outward appearance of being harmful.Am I to take as deities instead of Him those whose intercession, if the All-Merciful desires affliction for me , will not help me at all and cannot save me?
