Springtime in DC: Nature's Answer to Zoloft
2008-04-13 17:07:00
I had just about had it with this stinking wet, wussy Washington weather. This winter's extreme cold and never-ending sleet drove me to buy a puffy down coat about as flattering as one of those inflatable Sumo wrestling suits; my popsicle toes forced me to break down and join the hideous cult of the Uggs. I'm a Southern California desert chick that never owned a coat until I was 18 and has separate sections of my closet for casual, dressy and beach/pool-only flipflops. Every January - March the seasonal depression and gloom of the area just slays me. After the Christmas decorations are stowed away, the cold, grey, freezing winds make the yearnings for my old California towns creep into my heart. But I exited the plane at BWI this week after a long visit back to SoCal, and I stepped into an idyllic Washington spring. All the trees had bloomed, there were fields of daffodils everywhere and I remembered why I have loved living here these last 10 years. It's like the DC weat...

Zoloft - a personal experience
2008-01-27 11:58:00
Hi I have talked a few times already on this site about how Celexa (citalopram) has been known to cause weight gain. Recently I received this interesting email from someone who has used Zoloft (sertraline). If anyone has anything else to say about their own experiences with drugs like these, particularly on the weight loss or weight gain issue, I would be interested to hear from them and happy to publish it here. Here's the mail: "I was prescribed Zoloft two years ago for anxiety issues.  It took care of my anxiety, I felt great, but I gained 18lbs!  I was a mess and was very unhappy about it.  It seemed to me that the Zoloft took away my ability to focus on my diet ( previously I was very strict about sugar restriction etc ).  Since I weaned off of the Zoloft, for the past year, it has been extremely difficult to lose the weight. Unfortunately, I am having a severe depressive period due to a sibling committing suicide and I have fallen into a...
Brian Frazer, "Hyper-Chondriac" author: Mr. Media Interview, Part 2
2008-01-12 02:31:00
(Return to Part 1)BOB ANDELMAN/Mr. MEDIA: How would you describe, in a sentence or two, what you ultimately decided was the problem?BRIAN FRAZER: The problem was basically me. I have so much rage, and I always blamed it on other people, but I realized that it?s not a coincidence that there?s always a problem when I?m around. The Zoloft kind of elevated me up into the heavens, and it allowed me to look down and observe myself and observe my behavior. And it wasn?t as exemplary as I had once thought. And the title of the book also -- a lot of people confuse hypochondria with the title of my book, which is Hyper-Chondriac, and basically, hyperchondriac, all of my diseases are real. A hypochondriac thinks that they?re sick. They go to the doctor, but they?re not really sick. They don?t find anything. I think I?m sick. I go to the doctor, and they find a lot of stuff, but it?s all created within. And it?s also on my website, hyper-chondriac.com, also explains a lot.ANDELMAN: You did body...

?Zoloft killer? appeals case to Supreme Court
2007-12-19 01:34:00
This story kind of slipped under my radar today: A group of Texas attorneys has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case of a South Carolina teen sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his grandparents when he was 12 years old, arguing that the sentence is cruel. In the brief submitted to the court late Monday, attorneys from the University of Texas School of Law asked the high court to hear Christopher Pittman’s case on the basis that his 30-year sentence violates his Eighth Amendment protection from cruel and unusual punishment. Such a lengthy sentence is “unconstitutionally disproportionate as applied to a 12-year-old child,” according a copy of the petition provided by Juvenile Justice Foundation. “Although the statutory schemes in many states appear to authorize the imposition of harsh sentences on such young children, and 12-year-olds commit many serious offenses, petitioner is the nation’s only inmate serving such a harsh sentence for a...

Daytrana, ADHD, Wellbutrin, Zoloft!
2007-08-25 20:22:00
How about some free time?? My oldest starts school Monday, 1st grade! This morning was crazy because I forgot to refill the ADHD daytrana patch, so karate was a nightmare today….a zoo so to speak. Apprently Mr. C didn’t think talking was a bad thing. Anyway, hubby dropped off the refill, went to the grocery and picked up the refill. Now Mr.C has his patch on, which calms him down enough to think before he speaks and helps him with the sleeping….actually he is calm. If we don’t have calm we have 24/7 non stop bouncing off the walls talking about movies, the movie ratings, when the movies come out etc. He is the child movie encyclopedia! The day is better, I got good rest yesterday…. I took a nap, from 3-8, with my kids. My brother was up here from 12-3 and wore the kids out while I did housework, THANKS BRO! Everyone have a great weekend!
Pfizer Earnings Fall on Drop in Norvasc, Zoloft Sales
2007-04-22 17:36:00
Pfizer Inc.'s first-quarter profit fell 18 percent and the drugmaker cut its 2007 forecast, as competition from cheaper drugs hurt two of its best-selling products, Norvasc for blood pressure and Zoloft for depression.Net income for Pfizer, the world's largest drugmaker, declined to $3.4 billion, or 48 cents a share, from $4.1 billion, or 56 cents, a year earlier.Revenue this year will be $1.2 billion less than Pfizer projected after an adverse court ruling accelerated generic competition to Norvasc, and sales of the inhaled insulin treatment Exubera missed targets, the company said. Zoloft also faces generic rivals. Pfizer has said it is cutting 10 percent of its workforce by 2008 to offset the lost revenue. The impact of generic Norvasc, coupled with increased promotional spending around Exubera, are contributing to a greater decline.Pfizer shares fell 10 cents to $26.97 at 4:02 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The stock has risen 8.1 percent in the past ...

What is the most important information I should know about Zoloft? You may have an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior at the start of treatment with an antidepressant medication, especially if you are under 18 years old. Talk with your doctor about this risk. While you are taking Zoloft you will need to be monitored for worsening symptoms of depression and/or suicidal thoughts during the first weeks of treatment, or whenever your dose is changed. In addition to you watching for changes in your own symptoms, your family or other caregivers should be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits for at least the first 12 weeks of treatment.Contact your doctor promptly if you have any of the following side effects, especially if they are new symptoms or if they get worse: mood changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, agitation, aggressiveness, severe restlessness, mania (mental and/or physical hyperac...
