Forever 21 Now Shipping to Australia
2008-02-27 00:00:00
Forever 21, a good cheap thrills US retailer is now shipping to Australia ! Those of you who regularly visit Splurge Vs Steal will have noticed Forever 21 is a big one for the 'heavily inspired' catwalk items at a cheaper price. For those that haven't purchased at Forever 21 before though a warning on quality One suggestion I have is to visit the Jessica Style forums , as Forever 21 is pretty popular on there and this can give you some pointers on quality and fit of items from the US based members who have checked out the items instore. International Shipping prices are based on the price of your order, starting at US$34.95 for orders under $25 (you can check out the full shipping costs here ). Its good to see more US retailers starting to ship internationally, Anthropologie has started shipping to Europe with more countries to come, so hopefully this will lead even more retailers to do this. (Urban Outfitters, I'm talkin to you) The international shipping also applies ...

2008-02-27 00:00:00
Alison Triffet, Personal Stylist extraordinaire and owner of Style Counsel, generously offered her time to answer a few questions put to her by Never Shopped Out Readers. Thanks to everyone who submitted a question and to Alision for her indepth answers. Enjoy! Apples ain’t Apples! “Hi Alison, I have an “apple” body shape according to women’s magazines and I find it difficult to find clothes that suit me. What type of pieces should I be looking for?” Jasmine Dear Jasmine, Every BODY is different – there may be a particular category we can try to slot ourselves into but the variations of each are innumerable! What a size 8 “apple” can get away with, a size 14 “apple” cannot – despite having essentially the same shape! Enter, the PERSONAL stylist – me! – as opposed to the FASHION stylist or Fashion Editor of a women’s magazine! I find categories such as this only confuse women more! Ever...

My Botkier Bargain
2008-02-27 00:00:00
Okay, sorry to be a little 'its all about me' but hey, the section is called I heart! So I just wanted to share my latest purchase because I am SO excited.       The GORGEOUS Botkier Bianca in small (pic to the left is medium, it was all I could find) in Cherry for....wait for it....$213AUD! I've been eyeing this bag off for ages, and after consulting with our beauty bartender (you gotta love a girl who replies instantly to an email entitled 'Urgent Shopping Advice Required') who suggested the small will complement my current collection of larger sized bags well. The Botkier website is on sale at the moment and combined with the fabulous exchange rate of 93 cents to the Aussie dollar I just couldn't resist.  Botkier will ship internationally but it costs an arm and a leg (ie. 100US+), so use a mail forwarder.

Cult Beauty Product Review - Guerlain Meteorites
2008-02-21 00:00:00
I remember the fuss Meteorites caused, three counters over when I worked on the shop floor. Guerlain could NEVER keep them in stock - it was ridiculous. Every time they'd get them in, the consultants would spend the day calling all the people who'd been to ask about them in the last however many months, and without fail they'd all show up in parade fashion over the course of the following Saturday to pick up their prized meteorites like they were the rarest of diamonds. It's really been THAT long since I heard about this product, and given all the fuss I have no idea why I haven't tried it 'til now. When travelling recently, I finally picked up a 'collection' edition in duty free, that had miniature versions of all three shades (Mythic - 01, Pink Fresh - 02 and Beige Chic - 03). Fairly sensational as far as I was concerned, as for just $75 (not much different to what one of these retails at), I got to try all three... and on that note I must say, I've been really impres...

Justing letting you all know there will be no updates to the site over the next week, as I'm off on a short holiday with my darling husband, it being exactly one year since we got married. Scary when you consider we still both disolve in hysterics like the immature children  we are whenever someone refers to our 'husband' or 'wife'. See you all next week and happy valentines day for tomorrow!  If your looking to shop though, I've put together the A-Z of Australian Etsy sellers , which is choc full of fabulous australian talent, and should keep you going for at least a week :) As much as I adore Etsy, I just can't get the hang of that geolocater!

Adjustable Height Heels
2008-02-06 00:00:00
When it comes to high heels, I have the best of intentions and the worst  of follow through. I love the look of heels (Louboutins, be still my racing heart!) but I do find that not being a regular heel-wearer, many a time I am put off wearing them. If I have a busy day for example, I don't want to be racing from appointment to appointment on heels. So I was pretty impressed to find that some smart cookie has thought up the answer to this, with adjustable height heels! CAMiLEON Heels are the brains behind adjustable height heels. See these two shoes below? Yup, Its not two seperate pairs, but one pair of shoes.   All of CAMiLEON's heels can go from a 3 1/2 inch (That's 8.89cm to us aussies) heel to a 1 1/2 inch heel (3.81cm) The way it works is with an inbuilt mechanism that holds both the heel heights in place, and when you switch to the lower heel height, the rest of the heel actually sits underneath the arch of the shoe. If your scratching your head at thi...

Cult Product Reviews - Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream
2008-01-31 15:00:00
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is possibly the original cult product. You know how you read magazines and they'll claim such-and-such was the 'first' supermodel? Well I'm gonna claim Eight Hour Cream started the cult trend. Word on the street is that Eight Hour Cream was first developed during the second world war as a treatment for burns. The highly, highly moisturising nature of the stuff made it a good product to market to the masses in an era when the motto for 'creams' was something along the lines of 'the heavier the better'. Today though? Having tried this stuff, I have no idea why it has the following it does. It's touted as the product that does a zillion things in one - I've heard everything from healing cracked skin (okay) to in-flight hydration (oooookay) to (wait for it) anti-frizz for hair and body buffing. Given this goo is probably only a heartbeat away from actually being pure oil, I have no idea why you'd want to put it in your hair, or how you m...

Budget Brand o' The Month - Rimmel
2008-01-24 15:00:00
Regular readers will recall that late last year I waxed lyrically about the wonders of Maybelline . Great price, great product, and actually does what it says on the packet. Joy! My new love however, is Rimmel . Some time ago when I first started posting on NSO I mentioned how much I like Rimmel's double-ended eyeliner... but you'll be pleased to know I can now happily inform you there's much more to like about Rimmel than just their eyeliner. I recently travelled back to Australia for the festive period, and in an attempt to cut back on the amount of 'stuff' I was carting around, I somewhat amusingly made the decision not to take my full makeup bag. In fact, it was a barely a representation. I didn't pack any eyeshadow, no lipstick or gloss (just a balm) and only my trusty Rimmel brown/gold eyeliner. So... come New Years Eve, I was caught a little short on the appropriate makeup front. Being pretty budget concious, I thought it a little irresponsible of me to lash out on mak...

Cult Product Reviews - Clarins' Beauty Flash Balm
2008-01-20 00:00:00
It occured to me recently that there's a bunch of products out there that I've been meaning to try for years because of their cult status, but I've never gotten around to it - either because I'm waiting to use up what I already have in that category, or I'm have a cheapskate moment when I go to buy said product and end up going for a cheaper alternative. Purely in the interest of providing you with quality posts ;-), I'm going to review each and every product I can think of that has achieved cult status - from fake tan, to mascara to products that defy categorisation. If there's any in particular that you'd love a real warts-and-all review of, feel free to drop me a line and I'll add it to the list! But to begin: Clarins' Beauty Flash Balm is one of those perennial products that always seems to crop up every time there's a 'best of beauty' award thing going around, or a makeup artist, celebrity or other suitable type is rattling off their 'must-...

Cheap International Magazine Subscriptions
2008-01-20 00:00:00
I'm a bit of a magazine junkie - really, they are an integral part of my pre-shopping plans. And I until recently I'd spend a fortune at Borders stocking up on international magazines, but not any more, now that I have discovered how much cheaper they are to buy  subscriptions over the internet. There are quite a few international based sites which let you take advantage of the dirt cheap subscriptions prices in the US, and the savings are huge. Just to give you a few examples: Harpers Bazaar US Ordering a 12 month subscriptions via Magshop is AU$140.70 Ordering a 12 month subscription via Hearst Magazine is $US30 (roughly AU$35 which is $2.90AUD per issue) shipped to Australia Marie Claire USA Sale Price at Borders - $11.50AUD per issue Ordering a 12 month subscription via Magshop is AU$176.50 Ordering a 12 month subscription via Magazine City is $28US (roughly AU$32, which is 3.25 per issue) shipped to Australia Lucky Magazine Sale Price at Borders - 8.95 per issue 1 y...

Sale Alert @ Deshabille
2008-01-11 00:00:00
Remember how I talked about the Peter Alexander sale in the boxing day roundup? Well, I headed back to PA last friday to stock up on PJs (which I always do in the summer sales) and was shocked to find barely a sale item to be found. Never fear, I said to myself, there's always the internet. Well, no. The Peter Alexander online store is shut til Jan 14th and when it opens it will be all new season stock.  One site that I came across while trying to hunt down some new PJs was Deshabille , who are also having a sale at the moment.  Here's what I'm lemming:             I'm a sucker for a pretty heart print, and these cute all heart print pants are down from $AUD49.90 to $AUD29.90.
