Update on the Sales Calendars
2008-01-11 00:00:00
Hey folks just a quick update on the Sales Calendars . Firstly, I know at the moment they are looking pretty bare, but it's just not the season for warehouse sales at the moment - I haven't forgotten to update them! Expect the warhouse sales to start up again after February. Secondly, I've merged South Australia, Queensland and Perth into one Calendar. Its not that we don't love those states, simply that they don't get as many sales as Sydney & Melbourne, and its easier for me to update them that way and focus on spending that time finding more great shopping resources. Finally, if you are a Google Calendar user, you can now add the events directly into your own personal Google Calender. How cool is that?!?!

Swap My Style
2008-01-09 00:00:00
A great new resource for australian shopaholics is Swap My Style , a company which specialises in holding major fashion swap events to update your wardrobe without running up the credit card bill. Does the idea of joining up with 100+ fellow shopaholics to reinvent your wardrobe sound good to you? Shaughla Ahmed, confirmed swapholic, and the brains behind Swap My Style , agreed to answer a few questions about  the upcoming  swap event in Sydney (and give us the lowdown on when the rest of us will get to start swapping too!) Tell us a bit about how Swap My Style came about? Growing up with two sisters, swapping and sharing clothes with each other is quite common.  Our styles are so different; I think that’s what makes sharing clothes so great.  I have access to three amazing wardrobes. Swap My Style came about when my sister went overseas for work.  She asked to borrow a few clothes.  I later discovered a few clothes turned out to be half my wardro...
New Mail Forwarder: Bongo International
2008-01-06 15:00:00
Just a heads up about a new Mail Forwarder I've come across - Bongo International . The good news for those not so regular US shoppers? They have a pay as you go service if you don't want to sign up to a plan.   Like most mail forwarders, Bongo offers a US Address to users, as well as mail and document scanning and a Personal Shopper service that allows you to shop a stores that will not accept internationally issued credit cards. Bongo offers two plans - pay per use and a subscription plan. The advantage of the subscription plan is that you save a greater percentage off the shipping costs than you do on the pay per use (25% to be exact). The only other downside of the pay per use is that you can't consolidate your parcels. So if you receive two parcels within two days of each other, they will be sent seperately, rather than being packaged together and sent as one, cheaper shipment. Still, if you are not shopping very regularly, its nice to see another mail forward...

Jelly Headbands
2008-01-02 00:00:00
Although I regularly see headbands which I think are adorable, I tend not to wear them. Perhaps it's because I seem to have an odd-shaped head, so some headbands stick out at the side. Mostly its that after half an our I start feeling a constant pain where the headband sits below my ears. The dull ache tends to continue before I rip the headband off in frustration and throw it in my bag. It then becomes a dresser accessory that sits on display because it looks pretty, but I never wear it due to the fact that its rare day I wake up and go 'I feel like having a headache today'. But now I have discovered Jelly Headbands. Jelly headbands look like hard headbands but are actually made from a soft 'jelly' plastic.  To keep it in place, the headband has tiny combs underneath and are fixed with elastic at the bottom. I really can't rave about my Jelly Headbands (yes, I bought two!) enough. They are super comfortable, stay where I want them too and look really cute. Ready f...
Sale Alert @ SSense
2007-12-31 00:00:00
Just a heads up about a sale I just found on ssense.com. Does an extra 50% off selected Juicy Couture, Seven For All Mankind and Miss Sixty sound good to you? Until Jan 3rd, take an 50% off red dot items and 30% off blue dot items using code 'BOXING'. Ssense will also ship to Australia directly for US$50 (or you can use a mail forwarder) BUT if you ordering with an international address VISA is the only payment option (weird, but thats what it told me). Sizings are a bit limited but its worth checking out, because some of these prices are dirt dirt cheap. Why am I loving this sale?      Joie Ballerina Dress, with 50% off  is $US43.50 down from $218US (only xs available though!)           Miss Sixty Noelia Wedge Sandals $US28 down from $156US             Juicy Couture Linen Cami US$11.00 down from $104US and no, its not a typo on the price!  This is what I bou...

Thou Shalt Not Pay Full Price - Boxing Days Sales!
2007-12-25 00:00:00
Yup that wonderful time of year is upon us again - sale time! We've put together a list of do's and don'ts to help you have a fun and enjoyable boxing day. And yes, we have included links for catalogues and sales info! To make the most out of boxing day sales, Never Shopped Out recommends… Do eat breakfast. Boxing Day shopping could seriously be classed as a workout in my book. Also don’t go for a huge walk to that cute little café you sometimes go to, its most likely not open and you don’t want to trek all that way and find that it’s shut. Stick to the major shopping areas. Don’t sleep in til Midday and head down the shops. You’ll spend forever fighting in the carpark (and don’t forget Chadstone is rebuilding part of their carpark so its already crazy there). Get up early and then have a nanna-nap in the afternoon. Do wear comfy shoes. Boxing Day is not the day to break in the those fabulous Manalo Bhlaniks. We also don&...

Designer Q&A: Elk Acessories
2007-12-14 00:00:00
Our final Designer Q&A for 2007 is with Marnie Goding, co-designer of the fabulous Elk Accessories. Elk's philosophy is 'stylishly simple. no frills, creative accessories in classic colours for all occasions, transcending seasons' and each items is made from natural sources. By chance really! My previous career and university years were spent in marketing and event management but through short courses in interior design etc I always knew I would end up working in a creative field. How did Elk Accessories come about? I started off with a head full of ideas! My partner is a jeweller and never had time to make anything I asked for. I drove him nuts with constant requests and so decided to teach myself. We still sell exactly the same product 5 years later to the same stores, we all marvel at how this line has never slowed. The jewellery exposed us to different manufacturers, materials and ideas and fueled our desire for the label to expand into a full fashion accessori...
Cable Turtles
2007-12-13 00:00:00
One thing that really bugs me about tech accessories is the cables. Somehow I've managed to buy a phone and camera that both use different sized USB ports so you can't use any generic cable. No, you need the one that came with it which just happens to be black and long and looks like every other cable you own. And don't even get me started on getting out the one cable you need from your laptop bag and instead pulling out every other cable in one big tangled mess. Doesn't make you look organised when trying to set up for a presentation at all. So I'm liking the look of Cable Turtles .     These neat little cable organisers fit most standard cables, withstand heat so the excess cable can be kept rolled away whilst using the cable and they come in a variety of nifty colours which has got me mentally constructing a colour coded schema for my tech accessories, so that i can learn to associate 'red' with the camera cable and just grab the red cable turtle. Its wel...
Designer Q&A: Rose and Ruby
2007-12-12 00:00:00
Whimsy and Romantic, with a classic elegance, Rose and Ruby are a divine Australian label with divinely feminine dresses. Rose and Ruby's designers, Karah Tarran-Wilson and Rebecca Reeves-Saunders give us a behind the scenes look at Rose and Ruby.    . How did the collaboration on Rose & Ruby come about? Karah and I are sister-in-laws and we have always had very similar talents and an absolute love of clothes but also have different skills we just decided one day that we wanted to do something together and it took time for the actual label to evolve however from day one we knew that we wanted to create truly beautiful things! Where did the name Rose and Ruby come from? They are part of our childrens (current and future!) names. All your items are produced locally what lead to that decision? Producing locally is very important to us, we invest an incredible amount into our beautiful silks and French laces ... we just couldnt bear to have...

Last Minute Gifts from Adore
2007-12-12 00:00:00
Still got a few more presents to knock over and just totally uninspired? Or maybe you just can't face the shopping centre again (believe me, we understand, the parking situation is driving us nutty before we even get in the door). Adore Beauty's Gift Store is closing down, with 30% off all stock. There are some good last minute gift ideas in here, including the pack of secrets we talked about in the Kris Kringle suggestions for less than $7AUD, plus a heap of bags (Spencer & Rutherford, Urban Orignals and more). We recommend forking out the extra few dollars for express post to ensure you get your goodies in time for Christmas (the mail is sloooooooooooooowwwww at the moment).  Adore also accepts Paypal, so you don't need a credit card to shop! Some of our favourites are:     The Passionate Shopper by Marion von Alderstein - AU$27.97 Ahh...a book after our own heart. Calling on her own experience and that of seventeen leading Australian a...

Rediscovering Old Favourites
2007-12-05 15:00:00
I know all products have a shelf life... the general rule of thumb for those that don't have a use-by date is to have them finished off or thrown out within three years of leaving the factory. But three years is a pretty long time, right? And I honestly don't understand how powder-based products like eyeshadow and a powder blush can really go 'off' and it's these ones that I'm guilty of holding on to. For about 18 months now I've been thoroughly enjoying a gel stick blush. Recently though, I've been compelled to start enjoying the full depth of my makeup bag, browsing through the assorted goodies I keep, and it was here that I rediscovered Mac's 'blushbaby' powder blush. I have no idea why I discarded this to the depths of my makeup bag... it's just the most beautiful colour - neither pink nor peach nor brown, it's somehow all of these colours. Natural, lasts well - it's really everything I like in a blush! I also recall, back when I worked the cosmetic...

Custom Made Books
2007-12-05 00:00:00
It was bad enough when Snapfish started doing photobooks. Having been lucky enough to have two recent major photographical events (my wedding and birth of Worlds Most Gorgeous Niece), I was absolutely rapt to be able to create my own photobook.  So blurb is going to kill me - you can create your own bookstore quality book and its not just limited to photos. Blurb lets you create ANY type of book - photobooks, cookbooks, books of blogs (hehe maybe we should move NSO into the world of publishing?!?) - basically whatever you want. All you do is download their nifty booksmart software to start creating your book, upload it to blurb and they professionally print and bind it before sending it out to you. Now I haven't actually downloaded the software, only because I know if I do, I will get completely distracted for several hours playing around with it. I'm saving it for the week after christmas when I will have the time to do it. They have heaps of different options with both...

Savvy Circle
2007-12-03 00:00:00
One the big new shopping tools that seems to be cropping up is the price alert monitor. We’ve talked before about Shop It To Me , and I also use the Shop Style Price Monitor and I’ve found both really useful.  A new one that I’ve just found is Savvy Circle . Savvy Circle is a new online service where members could save the items they're eyeing and be instantly notified as soon as the price drops. The list of retailers is a similar size to Shop It To Me but what attracted me to Savvy Circle was that it’s not just fashion items, they also include stores like Amazon and Target. When you are shopping around – I mean browsing around – the internet if you see an item you like but don’t want to pay full price, you just hit the Savvy Circle button on your browser and it adds the item details to your shopping list. When that item goes on sale, they shoot you an email letting you know its on sale. Rather than picking brands you like an...
Ode to Maybelline Define-A-Lash Mascara
2007-12-03 00:00:00
With apologies to Shakespeare... and his fans Shall I compare thee to an eyelift? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: At a price that would delight the queen of thrift, And results that are so far from moderate: With a wand that is surprisingly unique, Thy comb lashes in a way that must be seen; In a colour range to deflect all poor critique, And a tube to match others' envious green; As thy delivers on thy packaging promise, Delivering only the most defined of lashes; Thy overcomes the most doubting thomas, Burning a pricey-mascara need to ashes: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this and this gives life to thee. (In case this wasn't blatantly obvious... try Maybelline Define -A-Lash mascara! It's what my younger brother would call 'da shizzle' - truly great stuff, lengthens lashes, doesn't clump, flake or bleed and a complete bargain.) BB

Precleanse Pleasure
2007-11-29 00:00:00
I remember looking at a girlfriend of mine like she may have finally gone over the edge when she told me she double-cleansed morning and night. We were comparing usage rates on an MD Forumlations product we both enjoyed Glycolic Facial Cleanser , in case you're interested... lovely stuff and she said she used an entire bottle in six weeks. SIX WEEKS! I couldn't get over it - it took me three months to get through the same amount of product. I was marvelling over this usage difference rate and about to suggest perhaps she used too much of the stuff (something I'm guilty of doing on occasion) when she mentioned that she double-cleansed. This struck me as an incredible waste of the stuff. Why on Earth would you double cleanse? She barely wears makeup, and although her skin is quite oily and prone to breakouts, I'd thought that cleansing twice would just encourage greater oil production, severely stripping her skin. It wasn't until recently (some two years or so l...

Kris Kringle
2007-11-28 00:00:00
Every year, I dread the Office Kris Kringle. It’s not that I am morally opposed to buying a coworker a small gift. It’s that without fail, I end up getting someone I don’t know, or in an even worse case scenario, I end up with the CEO I hate having to sidle up to the desk of the Kris Kringle organizer and ask them to point out who Mary in HR is, and then ask questions about what Mary likes. Its difficult enough thinking of a cheap decent present for someone without throwing in the political correctness of office etiquette these days. So here are my top 9 Kris Kringle Ideas that are not a candle or a mug. There are only 9 beause No. 10 sold out before I got a chance to put all this together! I’ve put in some for those of you lucky enough to get someone with a sense of humour. Also if you are really dreading getting someone you have no idea what to buy for – start becoming friends with the Kris Kringle organizer about now, because if you are really ni...
The myth of the curler
2007-11-27 00:00:00
Okay, be honest with me... does ANYONE actually curl their eyelashes on even a vaguely frequent basis? I have an eyelash curler in my kit, basically because every time you read a 'model/celeb/makeup artist makeup bag secrets' type article, an eyelash curler always fits in their somewhere. But, after a week of testing now, I have no idea why I have it. I've tried curling before and after mascara, heating the curler using my hairdryer beforehand, curling only one lash to see the difference and curling both and asking boyfriend opinion... but nothing. A while back, I was given a bunch of stuff from ModelCo, and in all that stuff was a heated eyelash curler. Now, I'll admit that baby worked. However, it worked too well. Kinda like when you're aiming for some soft, natural curls in your hair and end up with a frizzy ringleted early-80s-esque perm effect. Moreover, you were supposed to use it after you'd applied mascara, which was fine in theory but it somehow turned you masca...

Releasing my Inner Geek
2007-11-21 00:00:00
In case you couldn't tell by my obsession with schitckers (which are holding up fantastically might I add), I like to pretty up my tech accessories  In short, I am a marketers dream since I will pay extra for a cute tech item rather than just go your bog standard functional USB/Laptop/Phone. So my latest obsession is Mimobots . Mimobots are the cutest USB keys I have ever seen. Put together by Mimoco a designer toy studio/electronics company in the US, the Mimobots are about 5cm in size. They look cute, and you pull the head off your Mimobot and he’s a USB key as well. Could my inner geek be any happier you ask? Well yes, because they have a Star Wars Series! Soon I will be proud owner of a 4gig Darth Vader Mimobot.   Do I need it? No. I have two USB keys, a laptop, an iPod, Del.ic.ious Account, Google Notebook and various other portable apps to deal with working on two computers. Do I want one? Hell yes. They come in varying sizes from 1G to 4G (and the ...

Erin Fetherston for Target US
2007-11-20 00:00:00
The latest collection of the Target US GO: International has just been released, with the Erin Fetherston collection on sale from Monday 18th November   I really like this collection since it involves lots of cute prints (think hearts and bunnies) and bows also play a big part. The hardest thing for me at the moment is restraining myself on the clearly winter items (such as the bow swing jacket) since there is no chance of me getting any wear out them anytime soon. You can check out parts of the collection below or view the entire Erin Fetherson range here . If you are looking at making a purchase, Target does not ship internationally but will accept internationally issued credit cards (so you use a mail forwarder) and you can use your Amazon account to purchase. At the moment shipping is free on GO: International Orders over $50 and you can use code discount code TCTARGETWELC for an extra 10% off (was working as of Monday, expiry date is unknown).
A Tale of Two Returns
2007-11-20 00:00:00
Recently I've had two things go wrong with orders I made over the internet and its been amazing to see the difference in the way these have been handled. Situation No 1.  The first order was a Threadless hoodie. Although summer is pretty much here, I couldn't resist a few ago when all the hoodies were $25. And lets face it, you can never have too many hoodies. When my hoodie arrived the invoice ink had rubbed onto the print so my poor little milk carton had black stuff on him. So I shot Threadless off an email asking for some advice. They suggested giving it a wash and seeing if it would come off, otherwise they would do an exchange. Sadly, the washing didn't work so it has gone back and a new one is on its way. There are a couple of reasons why I am so happy about the way this was dealt with. Firstly, every email I sent was answered within 24 hours. Secondly, it wasn't cut and paste email answers, they were very thorough in what I needed to do to exchan...

Share Tip For The Week: Maybelline
2007-11-15 00:00:00
They just keep getting it so very right for me at the moment! Maybelline is usually one of those brands I barely give a second thought to. Perhaps a nailpolish here or there if I’m after a very specific colour, possibly an eyeliner for much the same reason… but that’s about as far as my Maybelline exploration has ever gone. Until now.
