Elke?s FunDay Tour of LA

My biggest thanks go out to Elke Von Freudenberg of the Beauty Blog Network.  She showed me and Teri of Splendicity and Aging Fabulous a good time all around LA!  We were all over the city and surf, had a delicious deli meal @ the charming Canter’s Deli.  We got to see a lot of the sites that were on my list with lots of insider information from Elke.  It was amazing, I wrote a list of all the sites but of course it is playing hide and seek!  I can tell you the highlight was Grumman’s Chinese Theater and Santa Monica Beach.  My favorite I Love Lucy episode takes place right outside the theater and I’ve always wanted to see it first hand and now Elke has made that come true!  I’m holding a pajama party in her honour at the next get together seriously! Intelligent Beauty MUG Shot

The second day of the Total Beauty L.A. Summit was held at the Intelligent Beauty headquarters.  We were treated to presentations all day on new-to-me brands like RedPoint and RAW NATURAL Beauty. I really enjoyed the day, the facilities were amazing and I almost had to pinch myself to realize where I was.   I sat between Tia Williams from Shake Your Beauty and Allison from The Advice Sisters (both of them got awesome make-overs during the conference).  Nancy from Beauty411 also got a makeover but I didn’t capture it — I didn’t get many pictures in the end so it’s good I at least got a souvenir.   I luv luv luv souvenirs and the guys and dolls at Intelligent Beauty hooked us up with mugs… did you see the mug shot up above? enough about L.A. for now, I’m back to my Maine morning view of nothing… Post from: Steeping Beauty Intelligent Beauty MUG Shot Share This

I did from one of the 100 plus books I have on Japan from when I lived there.  However I never even remotely considered nightingale droppings for myself, it’s actually a dream come true!  I am totally into the idea, I cannot get to Shizuka’s Day spa fast enough.  It’s an interesting offering for New York, there are for sure more pigeons available to get poop from. John Varvatos Women?s Fragrance, Worth the Wait?

John Varvatos has been on the fashion scene for quite some time now, to capitalize on that success, JV has now splashed into the fragrance arena.  There is men’s fragrance available but I don’t know much about that.  My hubby has made it pretty clear that he wants to pick out his own fragrance and that’s just fine with me. I was so happy to read that my good buddy Natasha over @ Fashioniche got the Louis Vuitton she’s been after.  I know I’m next!  I can just feel designer purse vibes!!  I am so terribly sick of the Liz Claiborne clearanced TJ Maxx purse I’ve been lugging around. Berwick Balancing Day Cream Coming UP Roses

Soon I will post pictures of my Rose Garden, I’ve been tending it gingerly waiting for my rose crop to reward me with the slightest reciprocity for my hours of attention.  It takes a lot to grow roses, they are prone to lots of leaf diseases and infestations, not to mention little ones that want to make mommy a bouquet and cut down to the root with a sweet smile. Weather it’s bugs or kids there are lots of things that can go wrong with a rose garden.  That’s why I was astounded to find out that the creams I’ve been slathering on use only Damask rose oil — it takes 60,000 roses to make a single ounce of Damask rose oil!!  Berwick Balancing Day Cream is luxurious but it’s also necessary luxe because it has more than 300 organic compounds and is tolerated by all skin types.  Berwick provides Natural Beauty with  a scent (rose-y of course) and texture that could command a much higher price tag.  I did not take it along on my trip making my homecoming ...

Lavera Sun Tan Safety Lotion

Panic… that was the scene in my bedroom 8 nights ago. I was packing and thinking, and worrying.  My legs were a pasty shade of day-glow and I was headed to the land of beautiful people, otherwise known as Far Far Away.  Suddenly I thought about the self-tanning cream I’ve been dying to try.  If only I could pack it with me I could take my time and make sure I applied it well, but no, then I’d have to check my bag, blasted airport security.  I HAD to apply right then and there, one coat only and I’d live with the consequences. I don’t suggest anyone else try it this way but I have to tell you I was thrilled with the results.  I stayed up about an hour after application and then I crawled into bed only to awaken to a beautiful tan the next morning.  It goes on white and seems just like a lotion, the scent is light and heavenly floral. On the first day of the Total Beauty Summit

On the first day of the first Total Beauty Summit , the hosts gave to us, a fab beauty tour around LA!  It was uh-mazing!   We started off at Kate Somerville’s newly re-vamped spaces.  I can’t imagine a more beautiful or restful environment.  You’ve got to see the white room, it is the most stunning room I’ve ever seen in my life, lots of white layers with touches of the sea all around and a restful fireplace. The second stop was L’Oreal’s store in the Beverly Center, the space is fun and lively designed with several semi-circular sections.  The outside of the sections is the buying space, if you know what you’re looking for you can graze and shop in those sections.  If you’re looking to test and try on product then head to the middle, there you’ll find trained professionals that will help you pick products or you can just play with all the makeup.   Here are most of the products I brought along on my trip to LA.  Some remained off camera but you get the idea.  My favorites are the Smokey Rose pallette by POP Beauty (I’ll review soon) because I can make up my whole face with it and my afterglow mascara and kabuki brush in that little silver pouch.  All of the others deserve and honorable mention, the pink T3 iron and Global Goddess South Pacific Shimmer and another favorite (I have to come up with a new word — too many faves!!) Maybelline AGE REWIND highlight and conceal

In my everyday life I don’t use concealer much, but I’m making an extra special effort to even my skin while on a trip to LA so I took along my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector.  In one little tube you get both a concealer and a highlighter.  I just used the concealer on some little blemishes and the highlighter on my brow bone and a dot on the inside of my eye.  There’s plenty more an experienced hand would use this for but I’m keeping it simple today and rewind just a little bit.  Thanks to Total Beauty and CEW for the chance to try this.  It’s perfect for travel, will fit right into your carry on baggy. Brazil Beauty Products: Caipirinha Shower Gel

April showers bring May flowers?  April Showers May Bring flowers would be more appropriate.  I’m getting quite frustrated by the sluggish tulips and no-show crocus in my garden.  It’s enough to make me want to throw in the trowel and get a good stiff drink.  Thankfully body showering is much healthier and pleasant and I’m especially pleased to talk about a new product I’ve been using. Meet Mark Pro Glimmer Hook Up Powder

I’m very excited about this product, it’s a CEW finalist and a spin on something I used to do long ago.  Confession: I was an eyeshadow on lips maniac.  Everybody thought it was strange, but I would put an eye color on my lips before my wet ‘n wild lipstick and it would last through our lunch break.  Pro Glimmer Hook Up Powder is even better because it comes in a cute little tube and isn’t as dry as eye shadow - great lipstick base. Thanks to The Jet Set Girls for tagging me in the wild meme sweeping the blogosphere! I love their post because they write about eachothers quirks!  In a tell-tale post I will describe 6 quirks about myself.  MY Quirks are mundane run-0f-the-mill variety exciting and noteworthy, here we go… 1.  I don’t particular like to use plush bath towels.  Those big fluffy towels look beautiful in the linen closet but when it comes to drying off I really like the thin, rough and abrasive type of towel that are hard to find nowadays.  I also can’t stand using fabric softener with my towels, I like them stiff.  If I had time I would iron them! 2.  Something I’ve learned about myself is I *have to* maintain a certain amount of stuff, having my this’s there and my what’s where? is time consuming but I’m a pack rat!  I’m convinced that the cereal boxes I’ve kept flattenned under boy2001’s bed, used Japanese phone cards tucked under my panty...

Fabulous Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss  in POP.  The good part, an ultra moisturizing gloss, it provides beautiful sheer color, the shine is fab - not too much, just right.  Wear it alone or over lipstick. The bad part, the scent is that of vanilla and in case it isn’t clear I can not in good conscience not mention that.  Vanilla is meant for ice-cream and cinnamon rolls! please please keep it out of gloss!  Don’t give me any lip about it! Avon has a new product Pro-To-Go Lipstick ! I haven’t tried it but I love the concept.
