Attention: Paper Bag Whores, Affeccionados, etc… Designer Shopping Bag Alert The NYSE’s Closing Bell for April 10, 2008 will celebrate SAKS Fifth Avenue’s 2008 Launch of the WantIt! campaign.  Chairman and CEO Stephen I. Nutra Luxe MD Vitamin C Plus Anti-Aging Skincare
2008-04-10 07:11:00
The Grades Are In I must admit my usually method of getting Vitamin C is through a tall glass of OJ no ice.  I just love the taste and it’s supposed to be good for me, so they say but we all know what’s behind all those calories! I’ll just lose all that extra sugar and use Nutra Luxe MD’s Vitamin C Plus moisturizer.    The creator, Dr. Hawrych, is a plastic surgeon, and uses a micro-encapsulation process to stabilize and protect the active ingredient, L-ascorbic acid. Unlike some other brands that shall remain nameless at this time, this product boasts a 2 year shelf-life!  It’s Anti -Aging Skincare at it’s finest. If you think all Vitamin C is created equal, I need to call your attention to the differences.   Take note that the “Vitamin C offered in other skin care products is either Vitamin C esther or L-ascorbic PALMITATE, which are fatty acids the body does NOT recognize and therefore does NOT ABSORB.”  So be sure to spend your mone...
Z Bigatti Re-Storation Champagne Gel Cleanser
2008-04-10 07:10:00
Where have I been? This is the first Z Bigatti item I’ve ever tried, lots of celebrities are fans so I figure it’s been a long time coming.  Z Bigatti has been slowly buliding their brand since 1998.  Focusing on quality rather than quantity, years of research and development pay off big time for consumers.  Z Bigatti carefully selects ingredients and uses the cold press process to target active ingredients that the heat process would destroy.  The Champagne Gel Cleanser is packed with skin-soothing botanicals that will nourish and make your skin feel bubbly and look pore free.  The cleanser is fragrance free and VERY mild so it’s perfect for a day when you haven’t worn layers of makeup or to take off sunscreens before bed.  The flip side is, because it is so mild it’s also great for daily double face washing. Champagne has a way of whetting my appetite and it seems Champagne Gel Cleansers have the same effect on my skincare desires - I have GOT to try ...

Different Like Coco Pretty Pictures

Different Like Coco by Elizabeth Matthews (2007) I’ve read this book at least 20 times in the last week, girl2004 LUVS this book so much.  It’s a great introduction to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s design and her life, a true inspiration she surmounted terrible odds.  Some things are left unanswered,  I would have liked to know if she ever got in touch with her brothers from which she was seperated from.  The only bad thing about this book is my kids are convinced that every body in France is an orphan, first Madeline now Coco!  If you’ve got a little girl to read to, this is a beauty/fashion book that they would love.  It’s great because it teaches about being different and using what you’ve got - things every little girl needs to know about!     Available @ Overstock Post from: Steeping Beauty Different Like Coco Pretty Pictures Share This

Beauty Book: Gorgeously Green by Sophie Uliano
2008-04-08 07:02:00
8 Simple Steps to an Earth-Friendly Life Gorgeously Green is a beauty book to encourage you to make one simple change, that’s all it takes to make a difference!  If you make two it’s even better.  Sophie Uliano gives you 8 steps to work towards an earth-friendly life.  Personally, I want to have a sustainable life with style, I’ve always paired denim with diamonds, it’s so much more interesting than being totally glam all the time.  Sophie admits that she was much more concerned about her compact than she ever was in compost but she’s learned that she can do both and be gorgeous and green at the same time! Rest Assured Beauty -full Readers I used to think it was all about wearing hemp and eating organic tofu.  I thought I would have to turn into one of those zealous do-gooders with unshaven armpits.  Trust me, this is not what the Gorgeously Green program is about.  Far from it.  We are going to be busting out in bright and wonderful colors.  We’re...

My Little Doggy
2008-04-08 05:50:00
Here is part of what’s been keeping me so busy lately… the other part is potty training girl2006 - not that cute.  About a month ago we got a sweet little pup, his name is Smokey… he stunk up a storm at first and was very shy and not used to human interaction - or at least the level of human interaction he encounters here.  He’s half chihuahua and half rat terrier. I never expected to have a little dog, my husband still slips up and calls him a rat-dog but that makes boy2001 mad so he’s trying to be good! He’s a sweet little guy and even I am surprised how patient he is with all three kids.  He’s still totally intimidated by the man of the house but hopefully they will get together soon! afterglow pure soul mascara product review LASH Out
2008-04-08 05:24:00
Lash Out against cosmetics companies Some people around me have told me in the past not to lash out, but I just couldn’t help myself in this case. NO, I didn’t snap, it’s just that I’ve been in my little rut of mascaras, I tried something last month, but what can I say, sometimes new information comes out and you just have to act on it.  For the past few days I’ve been using a new mascara that gives me pretty long lashes effectively AND safe! Pure Soul Mascara creates luscious lashes that are soft and flexible, no rock hard lashes here!  The application is very light, perfect for every day use but at the same time this is not your everyday mineral cosmetics line. I learned that from the super-cute afterglow vegan kabuki brush I use every day - it’s holding up beautifully by the way. Back to the Pure Soul Mascara, I even went without taking it off to sleep with no problem.  It didn’t irritate my contact lensed eyes at all.  No smudges on my f...

If you live in the UK and have unwanted but still useable bras, consider giving them to a bra charity that will match them up with a recipient somewhere around the world.  There are so many women that could use a bra but maybe they can’t afford them, or could put the money towards something else if they could get the bra free. Keep this worthy cause in mind if you lose weight, stop breast feeding, get pregnant or just have too many to deal with.  And while we’re on the subject of bras, I came across the most hilarious site, Olga, The Traveling Bra is traveling all over the world, these girls have some guts to pose with this thing in public is all I’ll say! Holly Winner ?Make Me A Supermodel?
2008-04-06 20:39:00
Good things come to those who cut…  I didn’t post about this earlier, I hate spoilers, so hopefully you’ve caught up with your DVR watching and saw that Holly is the big winner of BRAVO’s “Make Me A Supermodel ”.   I loved Holly’s cute little bob but that look just wasn’t going to cut it, too ordinary.  Holly needed a new look and she got one from Cutler Redken salons during the makeover episode in January and it paid off for her.   Rodney commented, “Being a supermodel is about reinventing fashion, it’s not just about being pretty.  Hair is so essential to an entire look and it’s the biggest change you can make in a short period of time.  As a model, you need to create trends, not follow them.  A hair makeover can define your whole image.”  Here’s a pic of the hair cut in progress, suggested products to maintain a Pixie are Cutler Fly-Away Control Stick to keep hair smooth and sleek and control frizz.  L...

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shine
2008-04-03 17:17:00
Shu Uemura has released their newest thing for your lips, Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shine makes it’s debut with 17 lip colors with professional grade hyper pigment.  The formula has water-capturing molecules that will hydrate your lips while shining them up with light-reflective pearls.   Here are some tips from shu uemura’s Principal Makeup Artist, Jason Hoffman…  -For a light glossy stain, apply directly from the tube. -If you want a slightly heavier shine, use a brush to apply. The brush will pick up more product and blend it evenly on the lips. -For more color depth and long lasting wear, pair the crystal shine with a pencil.  Try to use a pencil that is similar in color and remember to fill in the lips, avoiding the outline left alone when the shine wears off. -As with all of our lipsticks, crystal shine is great for eyes and cheeks.  Use a synthetic foundation brush and apply on the apples. (the colors look very fresh and the shimmer offers a beautiful sheen) -...
SUNDÃRI Skincare w/Sandalwood Oil and more
2008-04-03 16:03:00
Have you met SUNDÃRI?  If not, allow me to correct that… SUNDÃRI is a spa skincare line from India that promotes harmony and balance.  They use organic ingredients like Sandalwood Oil, a nurturing oil that is used in Indian culture to purify the skin.  The line includes exfoliators, serums, masks, creams and more. SUNDÃRI supports reforestation of the precious Sandalwood trees. There are measures in place in India to try and prevent the extinction of the Sandalwood Tree but poachers are resourceful and ready to cut them down at any time. We (global society) has come to a point where we have to put our money where our mouth is.  If we don’t support companies that are aware of the problems out there and are actively working to preserve forests then we are supporting the alternative: extinction of countless natural resources.  Source: Sandalwood Trees Post from: Steeping Beauty SUNDÃRI Skincare w/Sandalwood Oil and more Share This

What is that saying about May Flowers?  oh yeah, April Showers!  It rained here so there must be some truth to it!  I just hope the flowers hold up their end of the bargain and are brilliant.  My tulips and daffodils are popping out all over the place from under the snow.  I cannot wait for spring but my hair is def not ready to be seen.   Too bad there’s no decent beauty salon where I am. I’ll be in New York City soon and I may just have to take Antonio Prieto up on his sale.  Seems he wanted to do something special to celebrate his 25th Anniversary in business.  He’s offering all kinds of beauty prizes and discounts. Prieto is a world renowned hair specialist. Check out the The Beauty of Life for the whole schedule of events at his salon.  I’m guessing it will be worth the trip! Take a little bit of the Argan Forest of Southern Morocco to your home.  Considered a treasure, Argan Oil is pressed from the nut of the Argan Tree?s fruit.  Berber women in Morocco?s Atlas Mountain region in beauty and culinary preparations, the natural fatty acids in the oil provide essential nourishment.  On top of that, the oil has anti-aging properties, so it’s an all around winner.  Meet the Superbly Restorative Products: -Superbly Restorative Body Lotion is a hydrating, antioxidant moisturizer that improves the skin?s tone and resilience....

Vogue April 2008 Gisele Bundchen & LeBron James
2008-03-31 21:00:00
Is Vogue ’s April 2008 cover Racist?  In Vogue’s history (over 100 years) this is the first time a black man is featured on the cover.  Gisele Bundchen and LeBron James are at the center of a controversy.  Some have compared the pic to a King Kong clutching a white woman and the teeth baring look on LeBron demeaning.  I can see both sides of this argument.  On one side big deal, “races” have been mixing and the fact that Gisele is from Brazil is interesting since Brazil (like America) has a long, and at times, somewhat unpleasant history of inter-racial relations.  On the other hand it is insulting, why would he be clutching her like that in that setting, wearing that!   Vogue has waited all this time and this is what we get? Not to discount LeBron’s fabulousness BUT… there have been countless black men that have been “on top of their game” and not featured. What’s so different about April 2008?  It’s the only time in...

SEPHORA Beauty Book
2008-03-29 03:14:00
Sephora : The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin, and Hair from the Beauty Authority (Hardcover) by Melissa Schweiger I got my copy of SEPHORA yesterday and I have got to tell you it is an amazing resource for all beauty chasers.  Wether you’re a makeup junkie, a skincare lover or just like to know what’s in the stuff you’re putting on your face, you’ll find valuable info presented in a compelling format. I haven’t loved a beauty book like this since Cindy Crawford’s Basic Face back in 199x.  I carried it around with me and flipped back and forth, my husband was completely annoyed but oh well.  If I went, so did the book, I had an especially long commute from Tokyo to the burbs and Japanese women on the train looked over my shoulder and sometimes even asked me about it. Basic Face was a how to apply makeup guide without mention of specific products which was fab since I had little access to designer brands back then!  SEPHORA takes it a step further b...

House of Elegance - Unexpected Film about Beauty Industry PBS
2008-03-28 18:18:00
I was just on PBS and noticed this short film on the Independent Lens called the House of Elegance.  I was just thinking about this blog and if it’s important or not.  Why do women take so much time out of their lives to look their best?  This film brought me back to my fundemental belief that the beauty industry can change lives by improving peoples’ disposition and lifting their spirits.  Just wish the beauty industry would stop with the starving models and overdone airbrushing.   I don’t think there’s a way to embed the film in the blog, House of Elegance And while I’m thinking about PBS, be sure to check your local listings for Companeras.  A film about Latinas who’ve created the first female Mariachi band. Patricia Field Dolls up Barbie Girls
2008-03-28 15:52:00
I don’t know if it’s all this talk about the upcoming Sex and the City Movie or if I’m in a spendy sort of mood but I can’t help clicking on Patricia Field ’s website and browsing.  I was messing around the Mercedes-Benz website yesterday (yessss we’re in the market for a new car) and reviewed an email I got from them mentioning an interview with Patricia Field, only problem is now can’t get her out of my head!  I’ve been visiting PatriciaField online all morning and I find some of the stuff distasteful, i.e. the ho on the go kit!    Still, I can’t help looking because I’ve never grown out of playing with dolls, I’m totally in love with the PF Barbie Girl stuff at this moment!  If I was into wearing someone else’s name on my neck I’d be all over this Barbie necklace. I am really tempted by the compact though, it reminds me of an old time cameo, mirror mirror in my hand.  All this thought abou...

Luzern Purifying Cleansing Gelee Organic Cosmeceuticals

I’ve been using Luzern products exclusively for a week now and I am totally in love with the line.  I’ve been dying for Luzern to be my one and only but had some stuff to finish off first - I told you I’m a stickler for FIFO!   This post is about the first product that needs to be called to your attention: Luzern’s Purifying Cleansing Gelee.  A mild cleanser that left my skin feeling soft, clean and slightly moisturized.  Luzern’s products are totally natural sans chemicals.  If no one else will take care of you, this gelee will nurture and coddle your skin in these harsh weather times.   It comes in a pump bottle, just pump out a nickel size and apply to your face.  It says it foams up but that wasn’t my experience, it glides on.  I used warm water just like the directions stated but the suds eluded me.  You just have to know it’s working and after you see the results you’ll be totally at ease and not need the su...

Redundant title I know but there’s no other way to explain how I feel about it.  Thanks for kissing me Dior! I love the super sparkle and glimmer of this lip gloss, it’s got little shimmering specks in it. Yesterday I wore it alone and today I put it over a blah MAC color and it totally revived my lips.  It’s not at all sticky but be sure to use a tiny-licious amount to be sure!  DiorKiss has the Wonder Booster Complex, I didn’t notice anything particularly plumping about this gloss though, just a great basic gloss.  When in doubt buy it anyway! Escada Signature Fragrance for Women EDP
2008-03-26 15:00:00
Something making me very happy this season is Escada ’s Signature Fragrance for Women .   I’ve always been curious about Escada, it’s been around forever and always makes it mark on the times.  Most of the times it’s for their fashions on and off the runway and red carpet but the fact is Escada fragrances are equally deserving. Signature is a light floral perfume that has all-day staying power.  Originally released in 2005 it’s still being spritzed daily by adoring fans.   Sniff notes of  jasmine, orange blossom, musk, amber, patchouli, black currant, leafy greens, cucumber, magnolia, Italian lemon, nectarine, muguet, rose, vanilla, and Bergamot. Perfect mix for anytime but it’s my choice for spring.  Escada is a brand that makes you feel like a woman, it’s elegant and feminine without the fluff and frou frou.   With true vision of a global luxury brand they are opening (and re-opening) clubs all over the world, that’s not just sexy and ...

I’ve been tagged! I love memes and stuff so my latest visit to Jamie’s beauty blog, The Beauty of Life , was even better than usual because I was tagged for the wildest new meme sweeping the blogosphere.  No waiting, here are my answers! My Five Must-Not Have Items 1.  Light colored ”frost” lipsticks that make me (and most (all?) women) look like they came up from the morgue.  2.   Cheap plastic combs, remember the ones you got right before you to the photog to take your school picture?  They are still handing them out to poor school kids on picture day! the worst part is the kids like them and you have to throw them away while they sleep lest grandma comes over and puts them in her purse!  These little combs are very fine toothed, feel horrible and are very damaging to your hair. 3.  Vanilla scented items, yuck, awful.  I don’t think I could get over the scent of anything vanilla on my skin. It smells cheap and used.  I can’t remember the products...
