Evian Drops at Fashion Week
2008-01-31 23:35:00
Tomorrow is the first day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York (February 1-8, 2008) and the official water is Evian .  Evian is on the forefront of fashions with their luxurious and sought after designer bottles by Christian Lacroix.   I think they’re just gorgeous! Christian Lacroix closes all of his haute-couture shows with a bridal dress.  Bridal dresses are a symbol of purity and purity is the core of Evian’s brand. The see through lace and design of the bottle is elegant.  The limited edition bottle is often seen in high-end restaurants, hotels and nightclubs.  Those who like the very best, love Evian. The Christian Lacroix Evian Bottle quenches the fashionistas thirst for that perfect touch of pretty - without the price tag! No need to fear, Evian is near!  Supermarkets and grocery stores carry the Natural Spring Water which is quite amazing when you realize that it takes 15 years for each drop of Evian to filter through the glacial sands of the French Alps.  Hydr...

blogger down - computer trouble
2008-01-31 14:06:00
hi everybody!!  I will be away from the computer for a few more hours in a meeting!  The ugly part is my computer is acting up… girl2004 sprinkled some water on my keyboard, I’m talking 4 drops at most.  Now my circuits are all screwy, inserting tttttttttt and up arrowing on it’s own! DH and I spent all last night trying to dry it out, I may have to get a new one… I had so many unwritten posts in my head - the world will just have to wait… The good news is hubby left his laptop for me to use this afternoon!!  so I will return! -Delphine Post from: Steeping Beauty blogger down - computer trouble Share This Tags: computer trouble

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Product Review
2008-01-30 06:28:00
I went on a shopping spree and bought loads of Dr. Brandt stuff, it was just time to get on to the new beauty, ya know.  I got to meet the good Doctor Brandt at an event (which is a nice way to put buying fest!)  Dr. Brandt was very pleasant and informed me that I had hyper pigmentation on my cheeks which I kind of knew, just didn’t know there was a fancy name to it.  He prescribed some products which could have easily totaed $700 or so to get my face up to par but I had to be practical and get the starter kit (more about that some other time) and the microdermabrasion. The Microdermabrasion really scared me, I think it’s the -abrasion- part of the word.  When I think of abrasive I think of Ajax.  Ajax is not something I want around my face - not a good correlation to get.  Anyway, Dr. Brandt’s microdermabrasion is my new favorite thing.   I would highly suggest testing a little patch of skin to make sure it won’t be too harsh before your first use.  I pledge...

Tom?s of Maine Orange/Mango Toothpaste Review
2008-01-30 04:50:00
Well, I live in Maine and am very partial to Tom’s of Maine products.  I’ve been using them forever, at first I had to go to the natural food store, but now you can get them at any drugstore or grocery.  I brought my regular tube of Tom’s of Maine to boot camp with me, although I have strayed to other toothpastes, I’ve always come back to Tom’s.  I sent my husband to the store the other day and he came home with anticavity and tartar control plus whitening gel in orange and mango flavor… yuck, it is horrible, the taste makes me want to throw up! for starters it’s a gel so the consistency is bad to begin with, but the orange/mango just makes it unbearable.  I would have returned it but my husband opened it and used it before I saw it, now I’ve been stuck using this stuff because I can’t get to the store - O the joys of motherhood! So I’m suffering through this toothpaste for a little while longer, won’t you all send a ...

No More Itch: Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Cream product review
2008-01-30 03:07:00
My son has really dry skin, his knees, his little elbows take a beating every winter.  This year has been even worst because he’s in school loooooong days, not drinking enough water and having recess in the snow.  (I’d really like him to revert back into the little baby boy that I cuddled with all day every day for 4 years). Anyway, I’ve been using Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Relief Moisturizing Cream on him and it’s really helped.  I don’t think it’s cured the problem but it’s made it much more comfortable for him.  I didn’t use it on Saturday and he scratched himself terribly. Aveeno Skin Relief is made with natural colloidal oatmeal, shea butter and cooling menthol, the best part it is cheap and comes in big tubs that are conducive to slathering lots of it on.  He likes this because it smells like “man stuff”… it has a very light menthol scent which seems to comfort him.   I would definately recommend it to anyone ...

Chanel Precision Beaute Initiale spf 15 - Review
2008-01-29 03:22:00
You already know I’m totally brandwashed by Chanel .  I love love love everything Chanel.  I got quite a few samples of the  Chanel Precision Beaute Initiale Energizing Multi-Protection Cream with SPF 15.  I basically beg every time I go to the counters to buy some little thing and I ended up going three times for the Blue Satin Nail Polish and ended up with 8. I lived it up and used the whole little tube at one time. I really like the finish on my skin with this product, not too shiny or slimy, just moisturized.  It spreads really well but unfortunately the lack of scent didn’t do anything for me.  It didn’t smell like a quality product, but it did work very well.  It is a day cream with SPF 15, I don’t have that much experience with Chanel skincare, so maybe they don’t add much scent so it doesn’t compete with perfume.  Multi-Protection Cream is still worth the trouble but it would be even better with a slight scent when applied. Fresh Lemon Sugar Eau de Parfum Review and Carnaval
2008-01-28 23:10:00
It’s the dead of winter, few months to go ’til spring.  I’ve been spending way to much time inside, I need to get a mental trip.  So what do Brazil ’s Carnaval and Fresh Sugar Lemon have in common?  they both make me think of summer! There’s no better way to do that than with music and fragrance!  Winter is a great time to listen to tropical music like samba.  There are tons of samba compilation cds available to get you in the mood for Carnaval in Brazil (February 2 - 5, 2008). I wish American tv would play Carnaval, I watched it a few years ago on Brazilian tv and it seems very tame compared to when I was growing up.  I never really thought about it but I’m sure I can find somewhere on the web to watch… hmmm…   Fragrance is another way you can bring that tropical feel to your wintry abode.  I’ve been using Fresh Sugar Lemon Eau de Parfum and it’s been taking me down memory lane.  Summers in Brazil, getting fresh orange juic...

Frenglish Fleur Power - MAC Blush
2008-01-28 21:03:00
Attention: Frenglish (French + English) in this post!!  My favorite MAC product of all time: Fleur Power .  Fleur Power is an amazing pink shade blush, that lends you some Flower Power! I’ve had mine forever.  It can be really hard to find a pink that is not “too pink” but still able to show.  I even wear Fleur Power in the summer when I’m tan, which is quite something because I get a good 2-3 shades darker than winter.  Fleur Power Pink is perfect for every day wear, I absolutely love it and get compliments on it all the time. if you don?t have this then use that
2008-01-28 00:17:00
It’s all about alternatives, don’t you hate when you run out of something and you have to go without?  No more to that, you’ll be ready if you run out of any of these things:  if you don’t have shave gel use hair conditioner…  soaps and shampoo will dry out your skin, conditioner will leave your legs silky smooth if you don’t have toothpaste use regular table salt… this will taste strange but it will clean your teeth effectively, just make a little paste in your hand, some salt with a tiny amount of water then brush if you don’t have mouthwash use saline solution… 4 ounces of water to 1 teaspoon salt will give you an effective mouth wash Post from: Steeping Beauty if you don’t have this then use that Share This Tags: breath, hair, teeth

Hot Air: Time for me to Blow It
2008-01-26 08:38:00
I just realized that I’ve had the same hair dryer for 7 years.  I remember the day I bought it @ the Walmart 3 towns over I was huge pregnant with boy2001 (as a side note I won’t type “pregg*rs” when you’ve been pregnant 3 times it’s just not that cuters).  Back to my seven year old hair dryer - it’s a burgundy Vidal Sasson, cost $17 which I thought was pricey but I wanted to “treat” myself - at the time there wasn’t anything I was aware of that was much better.  I use my hair dryer 4 times a week on average.  Not every time I wash my hair but often enough.  I have all these rituals around my hair dryer, I clean the little vent thing with a brush outside and I’ve put the vacuum up to the vent to get the dust out.  All in an effort to get the thing hotter and to dry my hair faster.  I’ve been fighting off temptation to get a T3 but it seems I may just have to blow it, my refund check that is and indulge myself in...

Johnson?s Baby Oil and Bedtime Bath for everyone - NOT
2008-01-25 04:44:00
There are some products out there that are so good it doesn’t matter who they are marketed to.  Case in point: Johnson ’s Bedtime Bath !  Much like Secret deodorant is strong enough for a man but made for a woman, Johnson’s Bedtime Bath is made to lull children into a sleepy state but even if you don’t have kids you should get some of this stuff for that night time shower when you want to get a good night’s rest.    On the totally flip side, I don’t understand my relationship with Johnson’s Baby Oil.  I HAVE to buy a big bottle every few months, what if someone came over and I didn’t have any? It would be like not having sugar in your pantry, it’s a staple of any bathroom I’ve ever seen ever.  Once while in a casino, out of the cloud of tobacco scented people emerged a handsome blue eyed man with the perfect touch of 5 oclock shadow.   He introduced himself and shook my hand, that’s when I caught a whiff of him - this g...
Revlon Bedroom Eyes Smolder
2008-01-25 03:54:00
I love this look from Revlon , those eyes, that light lip, just gorgeous.   I want my eyes to smolder, BEDROOM EYES to mesmerize my man.  The last time I tried a “bedroom look” after the kids were subdued in their cots it was  disaster.  I emerged from the bathroom with a new nightgown (I later realized he thought it was a new dress!!) and some heavy duty eye make up.   He looked at me and asked “you going to Walmart?” all I could do was laugh…   Photo Credit:  Revlon Post from: Steeping Beauty Revlon Bedroom Eyes Smolder Share This
The Elegant Tightwad NYC Shopping Tours
2008-01-24 06:12:00
While in New York recently I had the pleasure to go on a shopping trip with The Elegant Tightwad.  As a native New Yorker I dabbled in sample sales with limited success, if you know there is a sample sale that’s one thing but it’s getting in to see those collections that are not attracting every bargain shopper in the city that is the key.  Some of those women are really nasty when they get a look at something they want. The Elegant Tightwad can take your shopping to a whole other level gaining you access to closed designer showrooms and guiding you through the garment district with ease and expertise. I went on the 4 hour Garment District Diva shopping trek with 7 other women and a wonderful guide, Pillar.  We went to several showrooms, some brands I was familiar with others I only knew from the glossy magazines.  Most of the items were priced to sell, many pieces were unique and one of a kind.  Which is the hardest part for a shotgun shopper like me, I usually have a g...

Davies Gate Bathroom Baking
2008-01-23 04:30:00
Don’t you just love when you find something that you’d totally forgotten about?  It doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s like treasure.  I’m pretty sure I bought this right before we bought this house 3 years ago.  I just found it behind a big storage container thing I use on the top shelf of my bathroom.  I look at the storage thing quite often but the little tin was behind it for some reason.  Anyway, I took a bath with it and I love the scent!  I have the Sweet Orange Powdered Sugar Bath Soak and it smells so good.  The packaging is super adorable, a spice tin, girl2004 thought I was baking in the bathroom - she is so into cooking it’s not even funny.  We call her baby Giada because her favorite food tv star is Giada DeLaurentis.  I used a lot more powder than the recommended 2 tablespoons it smelled good enough to eat. Loeffler Randall for Target
2008-01-23 03:41:00
I just spent the day in these beauties!  Head to Target to get your very own pair of Loeffler Randall for Target Rosette Ballerina Slippers.  I could do without the scrunched up look but they are comfortable  even if they don’t look cute in my mud area.  I really wanted to get a pair of the Sue London Ballet Flats but these are filling that need for now. I’m also interested in getting the Loeffler Randall Tote Bag but I swore off cheap bags, I’m saving for a Longchamp but this might be a good in between bag, what do you guys think? Eau de Durian
2008-01-21 23:46:00
Durian?  I ate it twice, the first time is a very long and somewhat embarassing story.  The second was in a small inn in Thailand, pressured by locals I fell victim to tourist thinking - if I don’t eat this I’m not getting the full experience and if I don’t eat it I’ll regret it for the rest of my life because this is not available at the corner bodega.  I was pretty sure it was rotten by the horrible smell but I didn’t want to be rude, once I ate it I remembered that slimy texture and I involuntarily gagged and regurgitated some of it.  It’s haunted my mind since and now I see Dr. Murad , you know his great cosmetics I’m sure, thinks  Durian will make a great ingredient for skincare!! let’s hope he gets some great scents involved because if not it would be great skincare that doubles as birth control! Total Beauty chatted with Dr. Howard Murad about trends in skincare and what we can expect to see from his brand this year: - “We ...

Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipcolor
2008-01-20 17:08:00
My favorite lip color right now is Desert Sunset from Maybelline ’s Moisture Extreme line.  I really like Moisture Extreme because it makes my lips softer without wearing chapstick.  I don’t like to wear chapstick under my lipcolor (does anyone?) so the result is usually feathered dry lips which is the absolute worst look ever.  I’m also a big fan of doing two things at once!  Moisture Extreme has an SPF 15 which will prevent sunburn too, this is not really a problem for me but I figure it can’t hurt to have some extra sun protection.  There are lots of colors to choose from and it has a light watermelon-y scent to remind you of summer, summer, summertime… Photo Credit: Amazon Share This Tags: lip, lipstick, make up, Maybelline, spf

Borghese Fango Delicato Active Mud
2008-01-19 17:38:00
I usually avoid masks in the winter, I’ve had lots of bad experiences of masks leaving me feeling too tight and dry.  I bought Borghese Fango Delicato Active Mud a while ago and never got around to using it, I’ve got rules about opening too many products at once - I’m just an old lady like that.  I got to open it yesterday and immediately the scent calmed my nerves and apprehendsion, it’s light and fresh and trustworthy.  I have a big tub of it so I experimented with it and  I applied it to my face and arms -  it tightened without drying or making my skin feel stripped.  If you’ve never had a mask that left you with that feeling consider yourself lucky because it is terrible. I had these weird little bumps on my upper arms, this mud helped smooth those out and left my skin soft and supple. SKIN Like Butter Shea Oil Lotion Review
2008-01-18 06:05:00
How’s your skin looking?  Mine is getting really dry and flaky from all this cold winter weather.  I’ve been using SKIN Like Butter ’s Shea Oil Lotion with a Verbena Scent the past few days.  It is luxuriously thick and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple all day long.  Because it won’t pour it’s housed in a sweet blue refillable pump bottle.  The scent reminds me of springtime on the grass, running, playing all come to mind… Skin Like Butter’s Shea Oil Lotion is sold in Farmer’s Markets and just recently expanded to the online market to make this lotion more accessible to people around the country, even us snowbunnies can get our mitts on it!   The ingredients are all natural and contains no water so you’re in for a treat that will leave your skin feeling and looking great.  There are different scents available or unscented if you choose. You’ll receive 10% off your first order with Skin Like Butter when you mention Stee...

Anastasia?s Eye Brow You Brow
2008-01-18 03:30:00
Thank goodness! no more of the sparse eyebrow look! I was feeling so out of it, I’ve kept my brows what I call ‘natural’ but I’m sure others call thick because I think it suits my face.  Spa brows are not for me, it was done to me unwillingly and I felt so violated.  When the tech handed me the mirror I almost cried - I’d been spa browed and there was nothing I could do but sit there and mourn my lost look. Once you’ve got a bad brow job it’s hard to get back to your normal self, it took forever for them to grow out back then - luckily I still had a waist and youth on my side at the time or I’d been hopeless.  If you are switching to a thicker brow and need to grow out your brows you’re in luck… the eye brow authority, Anastasia, has great advice for you…  Total Beauty spoke to brow guru Anastasia on the eve of her latest product launches. Here’s what she had to say about the latest trend in brows: - “F...
Prada Reviving Bio Firm Night - the Bill?s Here
2008-01-18 02:58:00
Prada’s Reviving Bio Firm Night Concentrate for Neck and Decolette Creme comes in little blue vials in their own sealed packet, ten to a box. If you’re into adorable little bottles this is the product for you!  Each comes as a mono-dose airless package to keep the active ingredients potent and more effective.  The problem with the vials is that they are glass and it is not easy to get the lotion out, I had to tap repeatedly to make sure I got all of it out.  The Creme applies fine and is very pleasant, fresh clean scent (which is the real reason I like quality skincare).  I have to say I don’t see much difference in results between Prada and a cheapo moisturizer.  I’ve used it now for 6 consecutive nights(out of the 10 recommended) and haven’t noticed any difference in my skin. The good news is I received Prada’s Reviving Bio Firm as a gift from a product junkie friend who sends me her castoffs - hooray for me!   This product retails for $150atNei...

IMEDEEN Time Perfection - Skincare from Within
2008-01-17 21:25:00
Today was my first day using IMEDEEN Time Perfection .  It’s really something to get excited about because it helps take care of your skin from the inside.  Imedeen comes in tablet form with Lycopene, Grapeseed Extract, Vitamin C and Imedeen’s Biomarine Complex.  Just two tablets a day with a glass of water is all it takes.  The tabs are small so you don’t feel like your downing some great big pill.  Since this is an Internal Affair it doesn’t let you pamper only certain parts of your body, I tend to take care of my legs but not my arms - it treats ALL your skin with vitamins and anti-oxidants.  Find out more about Imedeen’s products.  I’ll post an update in a few weeks… Share This

How to Eat Like a Hot Chick Book Launch
2008-01-15 21:39:00
My first day in New York was fast paced and full of action. I shopped and visited with my step sister, had lunch with her at her fabulous restaurant Les Sans Cullottes East, got to see David Letterman live, got a laser peel which burned my cheeks and made them look like chop meat @ Henri Bendel (see the pic below) and to top it all off — I attended the How To Eat Like a Hot Chick by Cerina Vincent and Jodi Lipper book launch party @ Club Stereo.  Cerina and Jodi are so sweet and it has NOTHING to do with the cupcakes from Billy’s Bakery! They are ”hot” chicks but also very considerate making sure I met everyone, Cerina even took the time to hunt someone down for me.  I got to hang with their families (and future family) before the party because I got there about 8:30 (that’s dedication!) and was invited in and got to see the behind the scenes of the red carpet while many others were waiting outside.  How to Eat Like a Hot Chick is inspirational and prac...
