Jason Wu helped to open Fashion Week with his presentation on Friday, and due to his recent connects with First Lady Michelle Obama, you know he packed the house. It was a bit of a struggle for me to find a cohesive theme in what he presented in his Fall collection, but his pieces were beautiful nonetheless. I'll go ahead and make a prediction that we'll probably see Michelle in the black printed number below (2nd from left) sometime in the future.

My favorite red dresses from the 2009 Heart Truth show was Lynda Carter's Carolina Herrera, Nia Long's Tracy Reese, and the ribbon hem on Valerie Bertinelli's Christian Siriano gown was awesome. Rachel Roy kicks off New York Fashion Week each season with one of the very first shows, but her Fall/Winter presentation didn't really wow me like pieces from her Spring '09 offering did. Maybe it was a complete lack of color in her Autumn collection (just about everything was white, black or platinum silver), but I still think Rachel's a fab designer.

My Red Dress Collection...

Red lace cocktail mini, strapless red and white cotton paisley dress, sleeveless lace cocktail mini. Red & white chiffon baby doll, red & white resort maxi dress (with pockets!), red plaid sheath dress with satin belt.These are all dresses I've sewn myself, the earliest being the strapless cotton paisley (top, middle), and the latest are the two lace minis. The lace mini with the sleeve (top left) was inspired by this Kimora Lee Simmons look. My dress has a similar, shorty fit. I've shown you the red plaid sheath and the maxi dress before (see more of my sewing style here) See? I've been sewing! And since these dresses had a red theme, well I thought what better time to display them than the  month of ♥February♥ and today (Feb. 6) being National wear red day. I hope you're wearing your red today! Well needless to say, I'm proud of these dresses, but I would love to know your thoughts on them either in the comments or by taking the poll below.

New York Fashion Week is moving away from Bryant Park beginning in 2010 and I honestly don't know how I feel about that. It's moving to a park in Lincoln center further uptown. Organizers say that the event has outgrown Bryant Park. I don't know, it's just gonna feel different somewhere else. Because the jacket Jennifer wore to sing the National Anthem at Superbowl XLIII looks very similar to a military styled denim, ruffled jacket from Alexander McQueen's Autumn/Winter '08 line seen closer here. The buttons and the ruffles are a little different, but everything else looks the same to me. What a Great Time to Celebrate Black History!

I agree with a lot of people who don't really get why Black History is relegated to one month. Black history is a huge part of American history and really should be recognized as such. However, it is such a beautiful time right now to celebrate Black history when so many Black people are currently making history! Barack Obama, Pittsburgh Steelers young coach, Mike Tomlin, *UPDATED* Eric Holder as the first African American Attorney General, and even though I don't agree with many of his views, Michael Steele was recently elected as the first African American RNC Chair, making history. But none of these people would have even had the opportunity if it hadn't been for the ones that went before. The countless ones who went before us fought hard to make the world a better place for future generations.Black History Month has added meaning in 2009 [USA Today]

Britney Spears made her long awaited comeback.
