I guess it's just that time of year, isn't it? The time when bloggers feel the need to excuse themselves from posting duties for some time, whether it be days or weeks...sometimes months. Hiatus, is the word I believe. I don't like this word. It brings negative connotations as far as I'm concerned. I prefer vacation - that way, everybody benefits (or at least, the refreshing name means everybody thinks they benefit). Now, this isn't just a vocabulary lesson, there is a purpose for me bringing all this up. Exams are in two weeks (so is my birthday! Yay!) and hardcore studying is required, in order for me to pass - immunity from 'exam-ruining anxiety' has never come naturally to me, see. But by no means am I taking a hiatus or even a vacation. I'm just putting it out there that posts will be irregular. There will be a few, I hope, during these next few weeks because, like all bloggers, I just love blogging. Lol. But there must be a line drawn when it comes to schoolwork, I'm ...

Paris: Le Grand Amour de Ma Vie
2008-05-17 04:05:00
Yes, I regrettably admit that I've never been. But it's on the cards, I just know it.Paris , the most beautiful city in the world (so those of us yet to see for ourselves are told), is full of surprises. Whether it be the Next Big Thing in art, fashion or music and film; a tennis champ who was always seen as the underdog; the construction of a now global, structural icon originally dubbed an "eyesore" (though some still see it that way); or, on a smaller scale, the just-stepped-from-a-photo-shoot gorgeous people strolling the streets of this romantic city.Kamel, the photographer behind the beautiful street blog Style and the City, gives us the chance to see Paris au naturel. A source of inspiration for us all, I'm sure.I've compiled a mini-collection called 'This month in Paris...'(click to enlarge)(click to enlarge)(click to enlarge)(click to enlarge)On the topic of all-things-French, I saw a hilarious French film called Le Valet last night (preceded by a truly harrowing film,...

Let's Play Tag!
2008-05-13 11:37:00
I've been tagged again. Twice in the same year, believe it or not. Lol.But this TAG is different to this TAG I think. The rules seem simple enough, best just to copy and paste from the person who tagged you, except change the answers to your own.Anyway, let's get on with the game, shall we?5 things found in my purse:1) Mobile phone2) money purse3) Mini beauty case4) Resumés5) Vouchers to my favourite shops5 things in my room:1) My bed2) My laptop3) My desk4) A chest of drawers5) A chair with thousands of clothes strewn all over over it5 things I've always wanted to do1) Get 100% on an exam2) Go to London, Paris, New York or anywhere overseas3) Be able to eat whatever I want and not gain weight. Lol.4) Go on a shopping spree with more than $500 to spend5) Stick to a commitment5 things I'm currently into now:1) Australia's Next Top Model2) Hot chips3) Vogue Paris4) My Tamara Henriques gumboots5) The 16 Diaries (natch. Best Dressed: The Costume Institute Gala
2008-05-10 07:19:00
New York's Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala . Or as Style.com puts it, The Oscars of the East. But judging by the award ceremony red carpet turnouts we've had so far this year, the fashion at the Costume Institute Gala has without a doubt surpassed that of the Oscars.Overall Best DressedThe Best Dressed Award title is split among many this year. No surprises, of course, that Anna Wintour's unbelievably fashion-forward daughter Bee Shaffer is among those that snagged the 'award'. This Nina Ricci gown is like a fantasy - in all sense of the word.Julia Roberts always looks amazing, as far as I'm concerned. The best accessory? Her dazzling smile (cheesy, I know. Sorry). Emmy Rossum - what a dress! I am actually speechless when faced with the beauty of this dress. I hope it'll still be available when I get married (many years down the track)...Camilla Belle was on my Best Dressed List for last year, as well. I tell you, this girl is going to be something big in the fashio...
The Importance of Pictures: couples...
2008-05-04 03:12:00
A little while ago, I did a post on some of my favourite/scandalous paparazzi pics, and decided to dub the series The Importance of Pictures . Sure it sounds totally cheesy and pretentious because, let's face it, in the scheme of things, the photos were not exactly important...rather they were, entertaining as I like to put it. Anyway, many expressed interest towards the idea, and suggested I make this sort of thing ongoing. I took this into account and started noticing photos of celebrity couples (some fictional). They may not live up to the dictionary's definition of importance but they are intriguing and, well, as far as I'm concerned they're important in their own right.Brad Pitt, Angeline Jolie, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt -- People magazine, June 2006This was a monster of a photo shoot, success-wise. I suspect this issue sold more than usual for obvious reasons (being that these were Ange and Brad's first official photos taken with Shiloh for public viewing). But this also solidifie...

Green With Envy...
2008-04-26 07:08:00
Have you ever been so bored, you find yourself taking personality quizzes on the internet (I do this even without the boredom factor)? Last night was one of those moments. With titles such as What will your prom dress look like? and Which Harry Potter character are you? and even Would I date you? screaming at me, I couldn't help but notice the one that asked Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you? I have to admit, I was intrigued. I'm not 100% familiar with the 7 Deadly Sins (watching that Brad Pitt movie provides the extent of my knowledge on the subject), so I decided to go for it. In case you're wondering, the sins are Pride, Envy , Wrath, Gluttony, Lust, Sloth and Greed. I wasn't at all surprised at my result.Envy:Envy is a complex and puzzling emotion. It is, notoriously, one of the seven deadly sins. It is very commonly charged with being (either typically or universally) unreasonable, irrational, imprudent, vicious, or wrong to feel. With very few exceptions, the ample phi...

When did the world become so cynical?
2008-04-23 12:30:00
As some of you may know it was National Compliments Day last Wednesday, my second favourite day after Christmas, and I went to school ready to fire (sincere) compliments at everyone who crossed my path. It didn't go down as well as I'd hoped... My first complimentee was very graceful in accepting my compliment, blushing and even admitted to being on the verge of tears at my kindness (how sweet, right?). But it was all downhill from then on.I was told that I shouldn't give compliments to each in a big group of people, as there was a risk of the receivers 'comparing compliments' (e.g. "she didn't say that I was amazing, I thought we were supposed to be friends..."); my compliments were sometimes greeted with a blank look, a.k.a. "why the hell are you talking to me?"; and one person even asked me if I was a recovering alcoholic and assumed this was part of my 12-step program! After all this, I was forced to ask myself the question: when did the world become so cynical? Is it so ba...

A couple of days ago, I did a post on what message the hottest coats of the season may be sending out to the public. This week, I've got those north of the equator in mind.Just to satisfy any curiosity out there, I did in fact find my perfect coat. I was half-heartedly perusing through the racks of a particular department-type store (before going to what would turn out to be the craziest party I've ever attended), and saw this one creme coloured coat. It was perfect. Soft, flattering, beautiful. But I won't let it slip where it's from, because I'm feeling very label-ist about the situation. Lol.Anyway, just for a bit more fun here's a selection of this seasons hottest swimsuits (and some accompanying cute white cardigans, a staple for any summer outfit), and what message they may be sending out to the public.(item details)(item details 1 and 2)(item details)(item details)(item details 1 and 2)My favourite? Mika you're right - Big Girls Are Beautiful
2008-04-18 09:32:00
For the first time ever, a size 16 (UK) entrant is in the running for the title of Miss England. Who is this hero, I hear you say? Why, 17 year old Chloe Marshall of course. Ms Marshall has been causing a splash of late, due to the fact that she beat a handful of slimmer hopefuls this month when she won the title of Miss Surrey, and is excited about her chances for the national title, to be announced in July. But she's not just in the running for no reason - this girl is fit and healthy as well as bold and beautiful (lol)."I'm a size 16, I eat well, I exercise regularly – I jog, swim, and work out with weights." she says. But not everyone is as excited about her success....A newspaper columnist, Monica Grenfell, has publicly said,"It's a total fallacy that young girls are being pressured into near-starving themselves into being too thin. She is an ambassador not for the beautiful larger lady as she'd have us believe but a poster girl for diabetes, strokes, heart attacks, cancers...

Tagged? Me?
2008-04-16 10:21:00
Everywhere I look, people are tagging each other! Up until yesterday, I had no idea what this business of tagging was. Lol. Now it seems I have been tagged, by Super Kawaii Mama and A dreamer.... Li'l old me has been tagged, can you believe it? I don't think I've been this flattered in a long time. Anyway...Here are the rules:1. Link the person(s) who tagged you.2. Mention the rules in your blog.3. Write about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger's blogs letting them know they've been tagged.Ok. Let's do this...1. I'm extremely time particular - every single minute counts. I get up extra early in the morning when I know I have to go to work, so that I can leave myself 10 minutes of relaxing time before I actually have to leave.2. I have a strong memory for faces. I can recognise almost everyone I've ever seen (well, looked at for more than 1 minute, at least); whether it be people I've b...

Cold? I got you covered...
2008-04-14 03:58:00
Down here in the Southern Hemisphere, the weather is starting to catch up with the recent runway collections. As I'm on a (so far) unsuccessful mission of trying to find my perfect winter coat, I realised there's a lot more to it than finding something that simply suits my figure. In my eyes, it must suit my personality. What I find is that what one wears can make a big difference to what others think one's personality is, whether it be true or not.E.g. a hot pink, ruffled top = happy and girlie (when in actual fact, the wearer could be a depressed tomboy). This mixed messaging system is not necessarily a bad thing. But searching for clothes to suit your personality can become overwhelming and confusing. So just for a bit of fun, lol, here's a selection of this season's hottest coats, and what message they could send out to the public...(item details)(item details)(item details 1 and 2)(item details)My favourites? Tote Me, Baby!
2008-04-13 11:45:00
It seems that, subconsciously, I am in constant pursuit of the perfect tote bag. In my eyes, for everyday use, a tote is the perfect bag: stylish (well, I guess that depends on which one you buy, right?), practical and secure. But, believe it or not, there are some real duds out there. Simply typing 'tote bag' into Google, doesn't exactly bring exciting results. So I decided to help anyone out there (as well as myself) who's on the prowl for a pretty tote, and compiled a list of the cutest ones I could find online in half an hour of searching (these aren't meant to be the best out there at the moment, this is just a selection of what I could in half an hour).1. Chip Chop -- European Vacation $169 (AUD)2. Juicy Couture -- Daydreamer Velour Tote $195 (USD)1. Betsey Johnson -- Betseyville $95 (USD)2. Lauren Bush -- World Food Programme Feed bag -- $59.95 (USD) 1. Dooney & Burke -- Madras Medium Duffle $350 (USD)2. Anya Hindmarch -- "I'm not a plastic bag" price n/aPretty rando...

Bring It Back: Old school glamour
2008-04-10 11:55:00
Fashion at it's best. Celebrities have been trying their hardest to try and re-create classic hollywood, but as we can tell from this, they cannot be trusted. Unfortunately, some celebrities today are giving a bad name to old school glamour, by making it look trashy and contrived. What ever happened to the good old days (ok so it was quite a few years before I was born) when makeup looked smooth, sexy and effortless? Why have we said goodbye to timeless Oscar style dresses and a smouldering smile, and replaced them with mismatching bags, trashy-red lipstick and impossibly high platform shoes? Why are the high-waisted jeans making a comeback when an even better era of fashion is calling our names, just waiting to be pulled out of the history books and back onto Page Six?Designers are doing their bit to recreate old hollywood looks at their fashion shows, featuring cherry stained lips, Veronica Lake-esque hair do's and even the clothes being designed bear striking resemblance to tho...

Quote of the Week
2008-04-08 08:45:00
"I'm reluctant to even indulge a conversation about my body image as it's become such an unhealthy obsession within society. When I had to pose naked in Art School Confidential, I made a conscious decision to put on weight as I feel very strongly that this size zero thing needs to stop."Sophia Myles, on Hollywood's obsession with weight.Wow. I have never heard of an actress (or even a woman in the entertainment business) who is so unconcerned with her body that she puts on weight for a nude scene. I'm not sure whether to commend or condemn her. Obviously my first thought was oh what a refreshing and healthy response to the Skinny Obsession... But now that I've thought about it more, is this really healthy? Sure I must admire her bravery to appear nude in a movie, and heavier than usual on top of that, but how is putting on weight to prove a point any different to losing weight (unhealthily)? Neither is healthy, that must be acknowledged. But I can't go past the fact that she d...

A scent for each season...
2008-04-05 05:34:00
I don't know about everyone else, but in my eyes a fragrance can make or break an outfit. So naturally, it's important to smell your best at all times. Timing your fragrance-wearing in accordance with seasons is of the utmost importance.Wind and rain in winter, sweating and humidity in summer, additional natural scents in the air in spring, and daily weather changes in autumn can all alter the way your perfume smells. Not to mention your mood. But it changes with each individual: some people like fruity smells (etc) in winter because it reminds them of summer, whereas others might prefer a more refined or sophisticated smell for the colder months. My perfect combinations go a little something like this...AutumnA strange choice, I know. But with the fairly cool, crisp mornings and then warmer afternoons strolling down a street full of trees and surrounded by dappled sunlight, of autumn I am just inexplicably reminded of Paris (the fragrance and the city, even though I'm yet to visit...

Inspiration and Motivation
2008-04-03 01:54:00
Are you struggling to keep up you're healthy diet and sufficient workout routine? You're not alone.I have a little tip for you, though. It helps me quite a lot. Just when I'm thinking to myself 'I'm never going to stay in this shape, what's the point?', and reaching for that chocolate bar, I look over at my inspiration wall and my spirits are lifted. Basically, what I've done is flipped through my favourite magazines and cut out everything from ads, to celebrity posters, to random shots of people who's bodies I admire and stuck them on my wall, in a place where I know I'll always look.Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway jogging together on the set of their new movie Bride WarsOf course, everybody's inspiration is different. Mine is filled with this sort of stuff because I'm a teenager feeling the pressure of society (I know it's bad - I should be stronger, right?), but the basics are still the same: if something inspires you, surround yourself with it. Trust me, it will make ...

Wardrobe Envy: Fergie
2008-04-01 12:28:00
No, not the Duchess of York - the singer. Lol! For a while now, I've been noticing Fergie has become increasingly more stylish (but then again, I believe she always has. As far as I'm concerned, there are different categories of stylish, 2 of them being... - the type of style that Fergie possessed: mix 'n' match with a splash of bling, Gwen Stefani belongs to this category also; and then there's also the type of style that Fergie has recently adopted: chic, well put-together i.e. traditionally stylish). I know there's a lot of you out there who would whole-heartedly disagree with me (believe me, I know Fergie doesn't have a big fan club, style-wise. Lol.) but, all the same, the point still remains that this a a gorgeous, easy, well put-together outfit, no?NOTE I realise this post is quite similar to a post that Coco of Coco's Tea Party recently did - which I only just read a few minutes ago - but I insist this is a coincidence. 2008-03-30 00:28:00
Yes, totally plagiarized post title, I know (speaking of which, I managed to sneak a peek at this fashionably eco-friendly advice book, Green is the New Black , whilst at Borders yesterday - not too bad, a soon-to-be staple on my bookshelf, perhaps?). But it fitted with the post content, so I figured why not? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all. Lol.Linda Loudermilk is an environmentally friendly fashion designer, who deserves way more credit than she's getting. I know what you're thinking: eco-fashion = scratchy burlap dresses, and plain-Jane (or just plain ugly) designs. Think again. Linda creates beautiful clothes out of sustainable fabrics, bringing a whole new meaning to the beauty of nature. But not only do they look good, they've acquired the all important seal of wear-ability approval.I'm totally in love with her designs, and soon hopefully the rest of the fashion-loving world will be too. Now, I'm sure luxury eco (Loudermilk Inc. has coined this term) ...
Actresses Who Should Be Models // Hit or Miss?
2008-03-28 10:37:00
Last night was an interesting night, that's for sure. The official plans were to go to the cinema and see a movie, then The Bunch (there was about 8 of us) were to publicly transport ourselves back to one girl's house and stay the night. What ensued was a night of of being rained on, waiting 20 minutes for trams after midnight more than once (no joke), an after hours McDonald's stop (I sat that one out) and 3 consecutively bad movies. There were two high points:Quentin Tarantino's newest film Death Proof. Oh my it was...ah, how to describe it? At the end, I felt like it was pointless. But after 24 hours, now I'm ready to see it again. It was great! I highly recommend it!The movie we saw, the basis of the entire event-filled night, St. Trinian's. Before I saw this, I completely wrote it off as crap, judging from the trailer. But I couldn't be more glad we ended up seeing it. It was definitely one of those so-bad-it's-good movies, but with an element of utter hilarity! Again, I...

Whitney starts a craze and Alice inspires pride
2008-03-26 07:47:00
Who watched The Hills last night? Me! On the internet, of course. It seems that, although the show is still just as entertaining as usual, it has lost any last gleaming prospect of reality it ever had. Heidi and Spencer don't even seem to pretend that what they're saying isn't scripted anymore, but that's ok - they're storyline bored me last night anyway. And Lauren and Whitney seemed to have gotten away with just a little bit too much when in real life, they probably would have been fired. But no matter, the show remains one of my favourites, and I know I'm not the only one. Lol.Anyway, if I were ever to compare myself to an animal, a magpie would be it. Why, you ask? I'm attracted to anything shiny! Lol. I simply could not take my eyes off a particular hair accessory Whitney was sporting on last night's episode: her Tasha Three Crystal Link Satin headband of course. I have been manically searching for the headband all day, and found I wasn't the only one who noticed this ...

Hot New Trend: knit beret
2008-03-24 04:17:00
Ok, so it's not exactly a new trend, but it's still hot. The knit beret. Normally, woolen beanie-type hats are meant to be worn during the colder months (they would seem extremely out-of-place, and not in a good way, being worn during summer). But the knit beret has holes, making it lighter and trendier. Best paired with dark sunnies, a flowing top and tight jeans tucked under boots (add a scarf for warmth, if needed). I'm not the biggest Vanessa Hudgens fan (whom I consider to be the "face" of knit berets, these days), but one can't deny she has style. Personally, I'm all for this trend. Unfortunately, I fear that I may have the wrong shaped head for a hat such as this. Cameron Diaz, Ashley Tisdale, Keri Russell andVanessa Hudgens are all big fans of the knit beret.Want to know where to find your own? These days, as winter is looming ever closer (yay! I love winter), knit berets and the like are not hard to find - head down to any department store and you're sure to find one...

Just a Paparazzi Shot? Or Something More...?
2008-03-21 08:23:00
I had the idea for this post quite a while ago so these photos are quite old, but Easter vacation just started so I've had a lot more time to blog than usual. Anyway...There are two types of pictures I'm talking about. Firstly, there are the very beautiful, chance photos taken by a paparazzo, or someone with a camera handy, that look like they could be from a photo shoot, or some sort of ad campaign. These usually go unnoticed, but photos are a huge part of my life, as well as the lives of many bloggers that I come across during my daily 'blog rounds', so this post isn't just for me, really. It's for anyone who understands the importance of pictures.Secondly, there's the career-making photos that can either be taken by chance or, carefully planned and hunted down. These photos make headlines around the world. A picture's worth a thousand words, after all...Beautiful by chance...Hilary Duff I stumbled across this paparazzi shot a while ago, on People.com. Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear finale...part 2

Currently, I'm experiencing a particularly debilitating bout of hiccups, only worsened by my annoyingly slow 15 year old laptop. I know what you're thinking: excuses, excuses...(believe me, I'd be thinking it too, lol). But don't worry, these two factors won't change much, except perhaps I'll hold back a little on the witty and in-depth reviews of the collections - the discomfort from the hiccups and 1-word-a-minute speed of the laptop are really putting my motivation (and, I have to say, my writing skills. Lol) on the wane.Ah, why can't I have this laptop? Something so opulent and glamorous (note: it's coated in gold, and on top of that covered with Swarovski crystals) is bound to be fast as a speeding bullet, internet-wise, right? It's the new Macbook Air. Thanks to Angel over at Chic Stories (I highly recommend this blog, by the way) for the gorgeous picture! Now onto Fashion Week. It's a fug, fug world out there...
2008-03-17 07:36:00
As many of you may know, the comedy geniuses behind the extremely popular fashion (or rather, anti-fashion, at times) website Go Fug Yourself, have for a while now been writing regular blog posts for New York Magazine's fashion blog The Cut. Well, I was checking the updates on Perez today when I cam across a particularly nasty review of Lauren Conrad's Fall 08 collection.Lauren Conrad after her Fall 08 fashion show.Of course, I soon realised that the review was written by the Fug Girls. Now usually, they're opinions are similar to mine, except more extreme (a lot more extreme. Lol) - but as I was reading, I didn't find myself thinking Oh this is harsh...but true (like usual). Instead I was just thinking, oh this is just unnecessarily mean. Obviously, there will be others out there (non-Hills fans of course) who will agree whole-heartedly with the Fug Girls. But I , for one, and not one of those others. Here are some 'highlights' of the review:Attending last night’s Lauren Co...

What do you get when you mix a supermodel and an NBA superstar?
2008-03-15 11:40:00
...an April Vogue US cover, of course! When I first heard speculation about this cover (it was only last week, confirmation came very late this time around), I thought it was an extremely strange choice for a Vogue cover. But now I see it's a pretty awesome cover (LeBron looks a bit scary, though, and I'm not 100% sure about Gisele's dress), and if one were ever to choose a supermodel and an NBA star to put on the cover of their high fashion magazine, these two would be it. They are some of the most successful of their industries, after all.Notice some of the headlines. One in particular is annoying me: You Are (not) What You Eat: Debunking Diet Myths. Vogue is a fashion magazine - not Women's Weekly. Does anyone else find this strange? Maybe I'm just nit picking but Vogue Australia is making the same mistakes too, except instead of confusing themselves with a lifestyle mag, they're confusing themselves with a teen mag.Don't get me wrong, I love both of these types of magazin...

I love Drew Barrymore. She's one of my favourite actresses. Her fashion sense has been up and down for most of her adult life (living it in public, and all) - but lately she's been spot on with her choices. In my opinion, this is one of those times. She looks chic and relaxed, working this very simple, almost-military-style frock with a splash of colour. Nice work Drew. But what do you think? Did the once-bad-now-squeaky-clean girl get it right? High School Trendspotting: Havaianas Thongs
2008-01-07 04:00:00
Well. I'd coin these 'the mother off all fashion trends', but, see, Havaianas are internationally more than a fashion trend. They're...a lifestyle, really. They go with everything. If you thinking ok, this outfit is way too dressy - slip on your Havaianas and it instantly makes your look cool and casual.I bought mine years ago, and unfortunately a few sizes too big. So naturally, they're not the most comfortable thongs around. This would probably explain why I don't wear mine religiously like everyone else (boo hoo, right?). So needless to say, I need some new ones. All the new styles are way too out-there for my liking, though. Oh, I'll figure something out, I'm sure. They're quite cheap (price-wise, obviously. Amazing quality). I'm not 100% on prices, though, if you're looking into buying a pair. I recommend buying a few pairs. One original. One metallic. And one really out-there pair. They're so fun! So hit the beach and let's go! Lol.Catch.*Romany*[photo courtesy of so...
