The red carpet season continues with the 80th Annual Acadamy Awards ceremony last night in Hollywood. Although the whole night was a civlised (if not slightly dull) affair, with no major surprises, hiccups or the like - there was still some hot (and not so hot) fashion on the red carpet to contemplate.Some of my personal favourites this year included Nicole Kidman in a gorgeous black Balenciaga dress & Heidi Klum who wore a show stopping bespoke red gown made by John Galliano. I was also a big fan of Jennifer Hudsons dress this year, a full length white beaded number by Roberto Cavalli, which showed her voluptuous figure at its best. The celebritites attending the 2008 Brit Awards did not disappoint, and all arrived well turned out amidst a whirl of sparkle, shimmer & glitz. A pie making firm near Caerphilly, Wales, has taken a stand against hungry looking models used at London Fashion Week by sending its 'Starvation Army' volunteers to deliver pasties & sausage rolls to the catwalks. With Spring definitely in the air it's time to take a closer look at some of the trends of the season, particularly the ones that translate well into plus sizes.One of my favourite continued trends is the use of pattern, specifically florals, although most patterns go at the moment. From simple sketched sprigs to delicate tea roses, girlish daises, vibrant azaleas and lush, exotic hibiscus - any floral pattern is a definite winner - Although for plus sizes it would be best to avoid all over large prints which can highlight larger areas.Angular cuts and exaggerated silhouettes lend a modern edge to retro florals. As an active & healthy person who exercises daily despite being overweight, I am a firm believer that how fit you are is more important than your weight. Until now popular belief would say otherwise, but now research is coming to light that proves weight & health are not necessarily linked.A US study that followed 2,603 people over 60 years old for an average of 12 years found that those who were very unfit were most likely to die - regardless of whether they were overweight. The participants all received an initial medical check, underwent fitness tests and had their fat levels measured.
