The Sloane Blouse: Beautiful But (Unfortunately!) Not For Me
2007-10-04 10:04:00
This is probably going to be the only time you'll hear me say this: "If only I was flat-chested, I could wear this beautiful blouse!"But seriously, folks, I don't really wish that; I only sigh at the prospect of being able to wear such a beautiful creation, even though in reality, I know this style won't work for me. The horizontal & vertical high-lines across the front would wreak havoc on my bod. Now, mind you, I like my current shape & size, but it's just not going to be compatible with the style/design of this top.So all of you flat-chested bean-poles out there who need a little upper body enhancement, this is definitely the top for you! ;-)The name of this top (Sloane") should alone suggest who, exactly, the target market of this top is supposed to be. Think about it a minute. If you are American, chances are you might be thinking of "Sloane" as a common first name. [Here's an analogy for you: Sloane is to Gemma & Philippa, as Blaine (Pretty in Pink, anyone...

I'm In Love ...With A Dress!
2007-10-04 06:08:00
I just cannot state enough how fabulous the Italian wool Linda dress is!OK, you've just got to see this dress in person. Now before you get started, I KNOW it looks terribly dowdy in the picture below, but TRUST me, it's the epitome of metropolitan chic, in a very Manhattan-sophisticate-on-her-way-to-meet -her-hunky-yet-terribly-refined-boyfriend -at-the-corner-brasserie-on-a-Saturday-af ternoon kind of way.I tried this dress on recently, & just fell in love. Yes, I'm in love with a dress & somebody probably should cart me away to the nearest fashionista recovery & rehabilitation center, if there is such a thing out there, before I start talking about marrying the damn thing. ;-) But seriously, this dress oozes chic from its little woolen pores. You've got to give it a try. It's the kind of thing that looks amazing when you try it on but terribly uninteresting on the rack. And the pictures on JCrew's online store simply just do NOT do it justice.I personally thin...

My Latest Fabulous Discovery: JCrew Denim
2007-09-29 15:41:00
If you haven't yet tried JCrew denim, you're definitely missing out on something fabulous. While The title says it's my "latest fabulous discovery," I must confess that the discovery is more of a long-term love affair with JCrew denim. ;-)So check it out:JCrew denim for WomenJCrew denim for MenJCrew women's hip-slung fit jeansPersonally, I'm a big fan of the hipslung, bootcut, & trouser styles (for women), as they fit my body best. In other words, these styles will fit women with real bodies & curves. I've got an hourglass shape that I'm very happy to have, so I always rejoice when retailers actually address our segment of the female population. We are not small in number & it's about time that retailers start making clothing for people like us! So YEA! & thank you JCrew for acknowledging that we exist. ;-)As for the other JCrew jean styles for women: Unless you have absolutely no shape & chicken legs, matchstick jeans are really hard to wear. The boycut ...

YEA, YEA, YEA, YEA!!!!!! WHO-HOOOOOOOO!Now I know Barby of Meh is just way too modest & doesn't want me to make a big deal of the award she recently gave me, but nonetheless, I'm going to jump up & down & get just as excited as I did when I got my very first award. So there. ;-) My apologies to Barby for being such a spazz (& for taking so long to post this!)......But I think it's very cool that she thinks enough of me & my blogs to nominate me for an award. Her blog, "meh" is totally hilarious; you'll definitely want to check it out if you don't already know about it! My sister, Missladybug of Ladybug & Co, was the one who originally introduced me to Barby's blog, so I must thank her as well! ;-)So, here's the award:...and the link back to Barby's original post.

Totally Fabulous & On Sale Right NOW
2007-09-07 06:58:00
I dropped by my local JCrew the other day to examine the new merchandise in person, & happened to find the cutest pair of cropped glen-plaid pants. They've actually been available for purchase online for atleast a month or two, but I'd never given them a second look before (i.e., you'll possibly see why from the unimpressive picture below) until I saw them in person & gave them a try. Then I was sold; they were truly fantastic!Even cooler, they were marked down from $128 to $69.99 & I also had a $25 JCrew rewards gift certificate to boot. So, of course, I bought them.Below is a picture of the pants:Trust me, they are much cuter in person, & need to be tried on to be fully appreciated. They fit superbly & are very versatile. I can picture wearing them with brown boots & an orange cashmere v-neck sweater & cami, with a cute jacket worn as an optional, additional layer on top. Very office appropriate for you working gals out there. You can view/purchase them online ...

"As Seen In".......
2007-08-20 22:12:00
If you've visited the JCrew website lately, you may've noticed a new feature at the bottom left corner of the website:It look them a while, but they've finally caught on to the idea of having a "press" section on their website, like so many other websites have done ages ago. This is a nice feature to see, as it's a great marketing tool. The chorus of product reviews/endorsements helps reinforce their brand image. The JCrew Collection fashion videos featured on their website also play into their strengths as well. Namely, their attention to detail & quality, vintage styles & specialty items, long-lasting fabrics, & their famous signature prints, etc.To quote their website, the JCrew Collection is about:"unparalleled craftsmanship. unique design. couture-quality fabrics & prints. these are just a few of the reasons why we created the J.Crew Collection. it's a collection of our most luxurious items, each of them a one-of-a-kind creation that deserves special attention & s...

Review of the JCrew Fall Collection (2007)
2007-08-07 08:43:00
Everywhere you look, it's vintage, baby! The direction JCrew is moving in is quite interesting. They seem to following the ubiquitous vintage-inspired style movement that's, as of late, taken the fashion world by storm.Check out some of my favorite pieces from their fall collection:Pretty peep-toed shoes in silk prints. Would be particularly great with a flared skirt or dress, or super-long boot-cut slacks.Cute make-up bag in the same print as one of the above pairs of shoes. This style is obviously geared towards the smaller-chested ladies, so I don't think I'll be trying this style on for size. Very cute but not for me. One of those things I wish I could wear but know would look absolutely wrong on me.Cute coat. Very Parisian, turn-of-the century. I picture this coat being worn by artists hanging out at an outdoor cafe on the Boulevard Saint-Germain.Interesting idea. Classic & regal-looking.Too junior of a look for me personally (i.e., I'm in my thirties), but very c...

JCrew CEO & Retail Magic-Maker Extraordinaire, Mickey Drexler
2007-08-06 09:16:00
For those of you who follow the fashion industry rags, you'll no doubt already be familiar with Mickey Drexler, the retail wunderkind behind JCrew 's meteoric rise onto the fashion scene. (He was appointed CEO of JCrew in January 2003). As you may know, Mickey's been in the fashion retail business for years, and as GAP's former CEO, he was largely responsible for the company's amazing turn-around. So, it's no surprise that he's been able to work his magic at JCrew. Not only has the company registered a much higher rating on the fashion richter scale, but its also managed to upscale its image while keeping true to its classic, prepster roots. Under Mickey's stewardship, the company gained IPO status in 2006, and as further evidence of the company's success, the stock share price opened 25% above its IPO offer price on its first day of trading. If you're curious to read more about this amazingly savvy retail businessman, check out these interesting articles:CNN Money articl...

JCrew-cified & Loving It!
2007-08-06 02:29:00
What does it mean to be "JCrew -cified"? Well, let me use it in a sentence to see if I can clarify its meaning:My fiancé (to me): "My goodness, woman, you've 'JCrew-cified' me!"JCrew-ification is that not so publicly acknowledged phenomenon that happens when a woman decides that she's had enough of her man's slobby, boring wardrobe & would like to convert him (as he's kicking & screaming in resistance!) into a presentable, stylish man with a little help from JCrew.Well, we women all secretly know that, whether or not men want to admit it, they actually do end up feeling better as a result of dressing nicer! And yes, thanks to me, a large cross-section of my fiancé's wardrobe is now from JCrew. And not so surprisingly, so is mine as well.

JCrew, How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways.
2007-08-06 02:04:00
When it comes to building a wardrobe, I truly believe in the adage, "You get what you pay for." I like quality & don't mind paying a little more for something that'll last. If you take the long-range view of buying clothing as an investment, and calculate the cost per wear, the higher quality item of clothing in your wardrobe will win out every single time. So, yes, I'm a very discerning shopper. Whereas there are many people who like to buy from multiple stores, I tend to be a brand loyalist. When I find something that works, I stick with it. This is not to say that I don't try new styles or never try new brands, but rather that I've arrived at the stage where I generally know what styles & brands work for me.Such is the case with JCrew . They make fashionable, high-quality clothing and accessories. While they are known for their classic clothing, they've evolved (over the past 5-10 years) into the epitome of metropolitan chic, with clothing that's tailored close enough to the...
