New Line: JCrew Yoga
2008-05-10 21:47:00 If you're on the JCrew mailing list, I'm sure you've probably already seen JCrew's email announcement of their new line, JCrew yoga. (The promo for this new line is also currently featured as the landing page of their website.)From the photos, their yoga apparel looks fairly basic in nature, & frankly, a tad bit boring in terms of overall style, but as for fit & functionality, I'm going to reserve judgment until I see the products up close & in person. And who knows, maybe these are just basic tester products, & they plan to add more exciting (& colorful!) items later?!Anyhow, if any of you have seen the line & would like to comment, or voice your opinions based on the online photos, feel free to do so!-------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- -------I've done yoga before, but wouldn't exactly say that I'm a current or regular practitioner. As many of you probably already know, I'm more of a runner, although I ... More About: Yoga , Line
The Very Fab City-fit Madison Stretch Chino Is Now On Sale!
2008-05-10 19:26:00 City-fit Madison stretch chino (select colors on sale for $59.50, originally $75)Those of you who regularly read this blog know that I'm a big fan of the City-fit Madison stretch chino. And, as I've mentioned before, they are like that magic pair of pants from the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (which incidentally has a new sequel coming out this summer, which I can't wait to see -- Hope it's good!). They seem to fit a variety of shapes, & I highly recommend them!If you scroll through the archives of this blog, you'll see that many others have commented that they also love these pants & have thanked me for the recommendation! ;-) So they're definitely worth a try-on! Featured Item: Katie Sweater Jacket (Now On Sale)
2008-05-10 08:23:00 Hello Fellow JCrewaholics:So what do you think about the following item?Katie Sweater Jacket (on sale for $89.99, originally $148)And then there's also the striped version:I haven't tried it on or seen it in person, but was curious if any of you had done so? Do any of you own it, & if so, what do you think of it?IMHO, it looks cute from the online & catalog pictures, but I'm curious to hear about your own personal try-on experiences regarding this item.I'm probably going to make a trip to the store over the next day or so (I've got something I need to return/exchange), so if I do happen to see it in the store, I'll certainly share my own impressions of the item here.Anyhow, if you do comment on the item, I'd really appreciate it if you could include details about the garment's fit & style, & any other details & insights you care to include (i.e., feedback on the weight & feel of the fabric, etc.) Thanks! More Goodies In Store.....
2008-05-09 10:22:00 There's a lot of cool stuff to look forward to reading here. Just to give you a brief sampling of what I've got planned, there's going to be a review of the new "Hawaii" catalog, another blast from the past delving into some rather amusing fashion recollections from the 80's ( -- Some people's comments on the rather tacky "Whisper lamé slim shirt" inspired me to write that post!), & several other fashion-related posts with lots of full-color photos! They'll be lots of posts with pictures, pictures, pictures! The ideas keep exploding out of my head, & there are so many posts in draft that this blog will have enough gems to last for several weeks worth of posts! ;-)So hold on there, it's coming. I just have to find a moment to finish editing my articles. I've got a few of them lined up & they are almost ready for publication. They're coming, I promise! More About: Store , Goodies

Questions, Questions, Questions!
2008-05-08 21:17:00 Wow. Can I just say that again?! WOW. What rapid-fire questions! Amazing. I'm actually a bit overwhelmed by all of your responses thus far to my last post. But that's OK, keep 'em coming! ;-) I enjoy reading them, or otherwise, I wouldn't have asked for them..... If these responses had been snail-mail letters, I think I'd need a mail truck to cart them all home! ;-) Thanks again everybody for your great questions & comments!-------------------------------- -------------------------------------Holy @*#$(*%&#!, Batman! Hahahahahaha. I had no idea what I'd just unleashed by posting that last article. LOL. It seems you all have some stuff to get off your chest! ;-)Believe me, I understand. Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About JCrew But Were Afraid to Ask:
2008-05-07 18:29:00 OK, I've got more news to share with you!As I may've mentioned before, I have a contact at JCrew, who has not only hooked me with up with merchandise samples, but has also offered to answer my questions, &/or put me in touch with the proper contacts within the company who can answer them. And just today, I sent this person a few questions about the Fall line (& also a question asking for an ETA on their planned database system overhaul for order processing!), all of which I'm hoping to blog about at some point in the future. And then it dawned on me: Why not open up the floor & ask you, the inquisitive & engaging readers of this blog, "What have you always wanted to know about JCrew but were afraid to ask (until now!) ?" ;-)But seriously, if you could ask JCrew just one burning question that you were dying to know, what would it be? Now, I can't promise that I'll be able to get answers for all your questions, but it can't hurt to try. ;-) At the very least, y... More About: Wanted

2008-05-05 21:39:00 Hey Everybody,Who-hoooo! I'm doing cartwheels & jumping for joy! That'll Show 'Em!
2008-05-01 01:49:00 OK, I just have to say that I'm getting sick of reading blogs where people proclaim how uninteresting JCrew is & how it's only good for basics. Huh?! Have they been on another fashion planet for the last 5 years?!A lot has changed since JCrew first started their retail operation some 19 odd years ago. And people just have to update their retail fashion scripts a bit, instead of blindly spewing the same old lines of crap that are no longer valid. Ahem. Get with the program, you freakin' backwards-ass people that are still living in the Fashion Stone Age. Open your eyes & pay attention to what is, & not just what used to be. And stop repeating the same old useless refrain that's no longer even a valid description of the large majority of their fashions. It's a broken record. To these people, I say this: JCrew has changed, but apparently YOU haven't. ;-)These are most likely the very same inane people who stupidly think they should be comparing JCrew to the... Wish-Lists: Past, Present, & Future
2008-04-29 21:39:00 As promised, here's the post in which I declare which items are on my JCrew wishlist. As a cheeky sidenote, my birthday is coming up soon, so friends & family or any generous patrons of the fashion-starved, feel free to oblige. ;-) (See this post to see what sizes I typically take. Hahahahaha.)Please keep in mind that I haven't necessarily seen all of these wishlist items in person, so I'm basing my opinions on catalog & online photos. (In other words, I might not have the same opinion of them once I see them up close & try them on, & thus, reserve the right to change my mind. ;-) )To make it a bit more interesting, I've added the "past," "present," & "future" categories, which you'll discover more about when you read about them below....... Editor's Picks for Spring 2008
2008-04-24 03:17:00 Hi All,Many of you have expressed to me that you've been anxiously awaiting my full review of the latest spring fashions from JCrew. Well, at long last, your wait has come to an end! Due to the fact that this post has been in draft form for longer than I care to reveal (!), you'll find that there are looks here in this post which range from the beginning of the Spring season to the present time (i.e., newer arrivals). Since I don't have a lot of extra time at the moment, commentary will be brief & kept to a minimum. So here goes:I love, love, LOVE (!) this blouse (i.e., the Swiss Dot Emily Blouse). [My favorite colors are the white & shell (pink).] I know I blogged about it already in a somewhat abbreviated form in a previous post, but no matter, I will praise its merits again here: It is just exquisite. Flattering & feminine, & comfortable. What more could you want in a blouse? Please note that the fabric is a tad bit sheer, so I'd recommend wearing a nude... More About: 2008

Excitement For Spring & Spring Fashions Is In The Air!
2008-04-18 22:48:00 Wow, just saw an influx of comments -- Thank you! I will be responding to them very shortly, most likely right after I finish this post. ;-)I see there there are lots of people who are excited about JCrew's sale & scooping up some great fashions (like the Camilla jacket, etc.) for great prices, as well as getting in on some of the newer spring trends & perpetual JCrew classics. I also see that there are quite a few others who, like me, aren't exactly thrilled with the change in JCrew's final sale policy. ;-) But overall, the general feeling in the air amongst commenters seems to be "Yeah, it's spring! Can't wait to get some new clothes!" ;-)Well, that's something I can certainly help you with, as my firm provides fashion consulting & professional shopping services. Yesterday's Store Visit, Part 3: What I Returned & WHY -- One Last Fash
2008-04-17 00:20:00 Before I get to that long-awaited Spring fashion roundup I promised (in the last post), I'd like to take a moment to cover one last topic related to yesterday's store visit: In-store returns.Since I mentioned earlier (in previous posts from earlier today), that I returned some items to the store (i.e., all items ordered from the catalog), some of you might be curious to learn what I returned & why. So, here's a brief look at what I returned to the store:Solid Beach TunicYet another case of a garment looking good in the photos but then not fitting quite right after a try-on. Really cute style, but way too voluminous through the body. I tried on an XS, & it was still too big. And I'm not a little elf of a person either. I'm 5'6", & a size 4 that won't exactly get blown over by a stiff breeze. ;-) Anyhow, I felt rather tent-like in it, & that's never a good thing to feel in relation to a garment. ;-)(I even tried belting it, with a wide belt, to see if I c... Yesterday's Store Visit, Part 2 -- And Now For What DIDN'T Work For Me &
2008-04-16 23:00:00 As promised, I'm continuing on with my review of items that I tried on during yesterday's store visit. (And yes, at one point or another, I've also tried on everything I blogged about it in my last post as well.)As the last post was about fashions I loved, I thought I'd balance out my review with some things that I either loved but didn't work for me, or just didn't like after trying. Often analyzing what doesn't work is just as important as discovering what does, because it helps give you a more refined sense of what to stay away from, & frankly saves you a heck of a lot of time & bother in the fitting room! ;-)OK, so on with it. First up, things I thought were cute, but just didn't work on my bod, for one reason or another. Yesterday's Store Visit..... What a Fantastic SALE!
2008-04-16 19:13:00 Well, I finally got around to dropping my local JCrew store to return/exchange some items I'd ordered from the catalog & here's my report:Right now, JCrew has a fantastic sale running & I was able to pick up several great pieces for a mere fraction of their original price. On top of that, all sale items were marked down by an additional 25%, which was even more incredible! Plus, store prices were even more heavily discounted than the prices listed online. So, I'd advise you all to drop by your local JCrew store soon, if you want to catch some great deals!Obviously, the store sometimes carries different things than the catalog (& vice versa!), but I'll do my best to find photos of what I got on sale, & also include the online store links whenever possible (for those of you who don't have access to a local retail location):Kaleidoscope paisley San Isidro bag(On sale for $19.99 @retail location + an additional 25% off; on sale online, $39.99; originally $75.00)Thi... The JCrew Samples Have Just Arrived: Here's My Review
2008-04-11 20:56:00 This afternoon, there was a sudden knock at my door & who should appear but a Fed Ex man carrying a very large cardboard box. Of course, inside the box was the eagerly-awaited sample merchandise promised by JCrew's corporate office. And within a few moments of receiving the package, I eagerly ripped open the box to see what goodies were inside. (Needless to say, I was quite curious to see which items they'd selected. ;-) )What I found was a generous assortment of items, all of which I tried on & evaluated. If you are curious to find out what I received, keep reading!JCrew sent me 5 samples in all -- 3 items from the 2008 Spring Collection, which are pictured immediately below, & 2 other items from Winter 2007, which are shown in the following row of photos:From left to right: Diamond mosaic enamel bangle ($78); Las Palmas Bag ($295); Zebra-print jacket ($250)In brief, here are my overall impressions of ... JCrew Is In DEMAND!
2008-04-10 22:33:00 Just a brief little blurb, as I've got to go out for a run shortly.Check out these two articles:Fig Changes: J.Crew Is In, Sharper Image Is On the Way Out, and Bookstore Is On the Move (TMCNet)JCrew's Got The Looks (Motley Fool)As I'd predicted, JCrew continues to make strides in increasing their market share, & that's clearly reflected in their performance on the stock market. It's easy to see why...... The bottom line is this: They are paying attention to what consumers want & giving it to us! And in the world of retail fashion (& in business in general!), that's always a winning formula. (You think that'd be a "Doh!" moment for most businesses, but clearly not every business is willing or able to grasp these concepts or knows how to go about executing them in a practical sense. You think at the very least, companies should pay attention to such important & obvious facts.)And on that note, check out THIS article which illustrates what else JCrew's doing r... A Few Thoughts On Fit, Flattery, & Body Image
2008-04-10 21:41:00 As many of this blog's regular readers already know, there are a few common themes/topics that I seem to consistently "obsess" about. In particular, I frequently focus on the fit & flattery of JCrew clothing & the appropriateness of different styles & cuts for various body types, particularly as it applies to JCrew merchandise. Some might even say that I focus just a hare too much on how clothing fits in particularly areas -- say the waist, hips, rear, & bustline, for example (!) -- which tend to be particular areas of concern for many, many women. However, I think it's a good idea to frankly discuss these issues, as they affect so many of us, & treat them not as "problems" but as "areas of consideration."And don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the men: When I work with male clients in my fashion consulting business, we often discuss their own unique set of individual fashion challenges when it comes to fit & flattery. Men, you know what I'm talking ... More About: Body , Thoughts , Image

Mad for Madras!
2008-01-26 03:07:00 Of course, we all know that JCrew has really great madras prints. Amazingly, they seem to churn out new and unique varieties of the stuff every year. Dare I say that they are becoming known for their fabulous madras prints, in addition to being synonymous with many other classic woven prints like glenplaid, houndstooth checks, herringbone, and Harris tweeds, etc., etc.Anyhow, here are a few samples of some of the latest madras offerings from JCrew.I have to say, I think the below totes are really cute.Of course, I already own several in different sizes that I bought in previous years (!), so I won't be indulging again this year.I certainly do get lots of use from them, so they've turned out to be a great buy. I highly recommend them!I like to use the small ones for casual outings, and the large ones for trips. The Mod Squad Has Arrived!
2008-01-04 18:45:00 This season, JCrew is flirting with 60's prints, with varying levels of success. And I'm sure they measure this "success" in sales figures, as most companies do, i.e., by how many people run out & buy the various prints they're doing this season. However, when I use the phrase "varying levels of success," I'm talking about the kind of success that money can't buy: How these prints succeed on a different level, as tasteful "fashion" statements. In other words, which of these garments merit the JCrew-a-holic seal of approval, & can be considered fashionable, good-looking, AND tasteful.Ah, my little poppets, it's sad but true. Not everyone can be blessed with having good taste. But I'm here to help navigate those treacherous waters. So buckle up my "daaahlinks," because it's going to be a bumpy ride! So, let us review the key "new" prints that JCrew is doing this season, shall we?! So far, there's the "Bahia" print, the "Zebra" print, the "Campo de' Fiore" print... More About: Squad , Mod Squad
Ugh! Where Did All The Pretty Clothes Go This Season?!
More articles from this author:2008-01-04 17:12:00 OK, the title's a tad bit harsh, but I have to say that I really am not enjoying some of the hideous monstrosities that JCrew has concocted for their Spring collection & thrust upon the general public.JCrew, I'm begging you, please give me something pretty to blog about & I'll start being nice again & put my kitchen knives away & retract my talons. I'd prefer to say nice things about JCrew, as I really do like a lot of what they do, but in this case I cannot spare any compliments for clothing I just simply do not like. No scratch that phrase "do not like," & replace it with "detest."I've got some strong feelings about the sartorial statements of the upcoming season, & cannot & will not say nice things when I just find the clothing unpleasing to the eye.JCrew, will you please bring back those lovely feminine styles, prints, & colors that I love, so I can begin complementing the heck out of you again? Now, on with the ugly business of bad-fashion-...
