Trendspotting...Leather/Latex Tights

The tights trends has been around for a while now, and being that they're both comfy and convenient, I don't think it's a trend that's going anywhere anytime soon. If you want to stand out from the crowd though, there's a new take on the trend. Leather or latex tights (whichever your budget can allow) are a funky alternative to your basic cotton tight. Seen here on starlets Rihanna and Lindsay Lohan, latex tights are surprisingly versatile. Both Rihanna and Lindsay have chosen to pair their tights with leather boots and a leather jacket for a chic take on the 'rocker' look. Turns out that actress Hayden Panettiere is more than just a pretty face. The humanitarian in training spoke about her Save the Whales campaign at the Forecast Earth Summit hosted by The Weather Channel. You may or may not recall, but Hayden recently risked her life in Japan to prevent fishermen from hunting dolphins. Dressed smartly in black slacks, nude pumps, and a sheer pink blouse, Hayden definitely looked the part of a young environmentalist. Hayden is a very petite girl, yet she somehow manages to pull off wide leg pants. Her look just proves that anyone can wear almost anything if it's tailored just right. If you're a bit vertically challenged like Hayden, the key to wearing wide leg pants without looking dowdy is to keep an eye on proportions. Make sure your pants are hemmed just right, if they're too long, you'll become lost in fabric. Also, balance your wide pants with a fitted top. Solange Knowles is coming into her own and slowly moving beyond her role as Beyonce's little sister. The singer/actress made an appearance at the kick off party for the 50th anual Grammy Awards. About Solange's outfit, all I can say is that I appreciate what she's trying to do. I can see the look she's trying to go for, and she was thisclose to pulling it off, but something's just not right. Colored tights are big for winter, and not everyone can work them. If you're gonna do colored tights, everything else has to be muted. The shiny-ness of Solange's dress, the brightness of the tights, all that hair, plus those shoes, all come together to complete an outfit that's not quite right. How would you fix Solange's look? Or do you love it the way that it is?

I have to say that I really appreciate Keyshia Cole . She somehow manages to remain true to herself despite being a celebrity. She's not a fashion icon, but she knows how to work with what she's got. Keyshia serves as the December cover girl for Vibe Magazine , and I think this is hands down one of the best layouts I've ever seen from Keyshia. She looks beautiful and classic, especially on the cover. What I love most about this Vibe layout is the simplicity of it. Keyshia's beauty is truly allowed to shine. Spice Girls Commit A Fashion Faux Pas, Twice!

The Spice Girls made their debut as a reunited group at the 12th Annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and they looked as fabulous as ever. But take a closer look at Geri (Ginger Spice) and Emma's (Baby Spice) outfits. Do they look familiar? Well they should. Both ladies' ensembles were previously worn by former pop princess Britney Spears. Maybe the girls need a new stylist. Not only were both dresses previously worn by Spears, but Britney wore them three years ago (long before she lost her mind). If it's any consolation to Baby and Ginger, they do look nice wearing Britney's hand me downs.

Hollywood's newest "it" girl, Hayden Panettiere is the latest celebrity face for designer handbag brand Dooney & Bourke . The "Hayden" is a limited edition Dooney & Bourke bag designed by the starlet herself. “I wanted to do something people haven’t seen from Dooney & Burke before, so my bag is red patent leather,” said Hayden of her eponymous bag. I definitely agree with Hayden. This bag is definitely something different for the Dooney & Bourke brand. They're known more for classically styled leather handbags, not something as bold as red patent leather. I think this is a good look for the brand though. The bag is cute and I think it will appeal to trendsetters of all ages. If you're interested in owning the "Hayden," it will go on sale this December for $500.

I See London, I See France, I See Heidi's Buttcrack!?!

Model Heidi Klum definitely had heads turning at the 12th Annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and it wasn't because she looked great wearing the brand's famous lingerie (even though she did, lol). At first glance, Heidi's after party outfit looks decidedly on trend. Sequins? Check. Mini skirt? Check. Peep toe heels? Check. But then Heidi turns around and I'm sure she had jaws hitting the floor. Heidi's backless minidress left nothing to the imagination. The colorful frock delved beyond backless and showcased about two inches of Heidi's buttcrack. I think I missed the memo that said showing our buttcracks had become fashionable. Clearly Heidi Klum has a fabulous body, but I think she showed more than was necessary. What's your opinion of Heidi's daring fashion choice?

I've loved Rihanna's style reinvention; she's gone from being just another popstar to being a full fledged style icon. But I have to question her latest style choice at the 2007 American Music Awards. The new Rihanna is all about being daring and taking fashion risks, but when does one cross the line from being fashionably forward to becoming a fashion disaster. Rihanna's ensemble was definitely festive. It works well for the upcoming holiday season, and I have to say that I love, love, love Rihanna's top. I'm just not sure though, how well her skirt and shoes work with everything else. I love Christian Louboutin as much as the next girl, but I think Rihanna should have chosen one of his less clunkier shoes. And I think a black satin pencil skirt would have worked fabulously with Rihanna's sequined top. But who am I to question the insight of Hollywood's top celebrity stylists? Curvy Girls Can Wear Prints...The Queen Says So

Queen Latifah channeled her inner diva at the 2007 American Music Awards. Wear ing a knee length leopard print dress, and black peep toe pumps, the Queen was definitely on point. I love Queen Latifah's overall look, but my favorite touch has to be the peek of her black lace bra. It adds a subtle touch of sexiness and femininity. Whoever said curvy girls couldn't wear prints, just didn't know how to do it. The key to wearing prints when you've got curves, is to keep the print small. Because the print on Queen Latifah's dress is small, it almost blends as though it's a solid color. Another tip when wearing a print, is to keep everything else simple. The Queen lets her dress speak for itself by keeping her accessories to a minimum, and keeping them black. I definitely think this is one of my favorite looks from Queen Latifah. Covergirls...Beyonce Covers Harper's Bazaar

Beyonce graces the cover of the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar Japan. Looking as beautiful as ever, Beyonce wears a strapless red gown accented with dozens of artificial flowers. From an editorial standpoint, the flowers add visual depth (although it's a little Christmas tree looking, lol), but Beyonce is beautiful enough to pull off this cover without the addition of any extras. At the end of the day though, this is just one more cover to add to Beyonce's aresenal. But I definitely think it's one of her better efforts.

Christina, Please Ease Up on The Face

Pregnancy has only enhanced Christina Aguilera's beauty, and if there's any justice in the world, hopefully the pop diva will soon have her own little princess (although rumor is she's having a boy). But I wish she would please ease up on the makeup. At a recent Rock the Vote event hosted by Christina, homegirl had so many layers of makeup on her face, that she looked weighed down. Christina is a beauty, so it's unfortunate that she's hiding both her natural looks and her pregnancy glow behind all of that makeup. The heavy makeup look isn't new for Christina, so I shouldn't be surprised. I will say though, that I love the rest of her look. Christina's green dress enhances her best feature (the baby bump), and I must commend her for wearing Louboutin's while pregnant. If anything else, Christina stays fierce.Photos

Usually actress/singer/mogul Raven Symone has a lot going on in the fashion department. Her looks normally consist of too many trends worn at once, so it was refreshing to see her in a simple black dress at the 2007 CosmoGirl! Born to Lead Awards. The only problem though, is that Raven's light colored bra is peeking through her fab knit dress. This is such a great look on Raven, definitely proving correct that old adage, "Less is more." I hate that Raven's outfit is ruined by her bra; a black bra would have been so perfect. I still think she looks good though. Raven's makeup is on point, and her shoes are too cute. Let's hope that next time Raven leaves the house she notices that her undergarments are peeking through her garments.

Now this is how you do flirty and sexy at the same time. Natalie Portman looks fab at the premiere of her latest movie, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. Nat's hot pink mini dress and deep pink lips work great with her classically styled hair and gold heels. Everything comes together perfectly for a look that's both prim and suggestive. I call it the Heidi Klum effect-- the ability to look both innocent and naughty at the same time. I always love the looks that Natalie comes up with. She has a knack for taking trends and making them look timeless. Mission: Impossible III babe Maggie Q, showed off a daring ensemble at the 2007 Lint Roller Party. I can't decide how I feel about what Maggie's got going on. While I initially hated it, I'm now kinda feeling this look. Yeah, the lace top with black bra peeking through is bordering on tacky. But the top's high collar and puff sleeves in combination with the high waist and knee length of her skirt, almost make Maggie's outfit look a bit demure. The one thing I'm sure I don't like though, are Maggie's shoes. Don't get me wrong, I think the shoes are adorable, but I don't like them with this outfit. I Want That!...Kate Walsh's Empire Top

So, who do you know that that looks this fly at the gas station? I've liked Kate Walsh ever since she made her spectacular appearance as Addison Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy. It's great to see her looking just as fabulous off screen as she does on. Kate effortlessly pulls off wearing an empire top while running a few errands. Empire tops can be tricky, so to avoid looking like you're with child (unless you really are, lol), pair any billowy top with skinny pants. The slim lines of the pants will balance the volume of the top. What I love more than how Kate works this look, though, is the top itself. Alexis, What's On Your Feet?

Kanye West definitely believes himself to be one of the flyest entertainers in the industry, and a strong argument could be made that he is. So you know someone with Kanye's fashion instincts would have a first lady who's as equally on point. But when I look at this pic of Kanye and his fiance' Alexis Phifer, I have to question Alexis' sense of style. Seriously, look at her shoes! They're horrible. And that pink lipstick is not flattering. I think this outfit would have worked much better if Alexis had worn a different shoe; then the pink lipstick might not have been so distracting. Perhaps it's just that I'm the one who's not fashionably savvy. Maybe I just don't understand. In her defense, I have seen pictures of Alexis on several occasions looking fabulously chic. What Should Christian Do?

I'm a huge fan of Christian Louboutin, celebrity shoe designer. His shoes are instantly recognized by their red soles, and in addition to this unique feature, the shoes are fabulously chic. Now I'm also a fan of Steve Madden. His shoes are often inspired by high end celebrity designers, but they're available for much more reasonable prices. But when does inspiration become just straight copying? Check out these booties, the red soled shoe is obviously a Christian Louboutin creation. Called the "Miss Fred Tacco Boot" this bad boy retails for nearly $700. The Steve Madden shoe on the left, called "Becks," is an obvious ripoff. The thing is it retails for $150, a major difference in price. Is it wrong for Mr. Madden to completely steal the work of someone else? And is it wrong of us budget conscious fashionistas to buy the Madden version of the shoe? What do you guys think?

Christina Ricci Lightens Up

When Christina Ricci first cut her locks off and went with a blunt cut bob, people either loved it or hated it. Christina's a petite girl with a petite face that has delicate features, so the sharpness of her haircut along with the contrast of her black hair against her pale skin was almost a bit too much. But now Christina has lightened up her bob with a new caramel color that brings a warm glow to her face. This color looks fabulous on her. We're so used to seeing Christina with dark hair, it's refreshing to see a bit of change with her. It's amazing what a difference a slight color change can make.Picture Source

Covergirls...Jill Scott Makes A Comeback In Essence

I fell in love with Jill Scott and her music when her first cd Who Is Jill Scott? hit the scene. Her music was like a breath of fresh air in an industry that routinely put out artists whose music may have sound good, but failed to say anything. In recent years though, we haven't heard much from Miss Scott. She did release a second cd, but it failed to impress as much as her first. Yet despite keeping a low profile as of late, Jill Scott is back with an upcoming third album entitled, The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3. In her time away Jill has gone through a divorce, and a period of hurt and healing, but she's managed to come through it all looking as beautiful as ever. On the cover of the September issue of Essence magazine, I think this is the best she's ever looked. Jill's third album will be released on September 25th, but until then, check out her latest video, Hate On Me.

I have yet to see this chick do anything wrong style wise (except maybe some of her tour costumes lol), and at the Paper Magazine celebration of her August cover of the mag, Rihanna failed to disappoint. Girlfriend even had the nerve to pair her leg brace with a Christian Louboutin pump! Now that's what you call being dedicated to fashion.

Nude pumps have been a big hit this summer. They've been seen on everyone from Amerie to Jessica Biel. I think what's made the trend work so well is that the nude color looks great on a variety of shoe styles. Nude looks great on peep toes, platforms, mary janes, and even loafer style pumps. Plus, a nude shoe instantly lengthens the leg. What more could a girl ask for in a shoe? Lol. Be sure to get in on this trend before the warm season is over.Update!!!I guess I should have explained this trend better. Some readers have commented that this wouldn't work on black women. But that's so not true, lol. Nude just simply refers to a shoe color that matches your skin tone. If your skin tone is dark, just find a browner shoe.
