Rebirth of a Phoenix
2007-10-09 04:27:00
I finally found a moment to sneak in a breather today, and came across this amazing lady on The Sartorialist . There in many of the comments left for this snap, an anonymous left this message: "She's like a phoenix rising from the ashes of her clothes." I could not describe it better. The red top the grey. GORGEOUS!

"Slim: A Fantasy Memoir" by Cynthia Rowley
2007-09-28 05:47:00
Cynthia Rowley is a native Chicagoan, who has made a name for herself globally with her gorgeously pretty clothing line for both men and women, shoes and accessories (for your home and your person) all at mid-range prices. Easily fashionable enough for the everyday person, yeah? However, how many of you guys knew she is also an artist and an author in her own right? On Thursday, October 4, at 6:00pm Central, Cynthia Rowley will be at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Theater, People Who Shape Our World: Cynthia Rowley, to discuss fashion, art and her new book, Slim : A Fantasy Memoir .A collection of stories that are part memoir, part fiction and accompanied by over forty of Rowley’s own original drawings, Slim: A Fantasy Memoir recounts tall tales from the author’s childhood through her early days as a fashion designer. From luxury camping under a flashlight chandelier, to a runway show in Candyland, Slim: A Fantasy Memoir drifts seamlessly between daydreams and rea...

Before I move forward with this blog, I need to close out where I left off back in August. I have pics from the Sarah Jessica Parker signing in Chicago and some, in my opinion, lousy pics from Lollapalooza 2007.and the Lolla pics:(these first few snaps are fashion related, I am presently way too shy to ask someone directly if I can take their pic for blogging purposes, so, these are all candids. Also, I'm a newbie to taking pics, am learning and practicing as I go along. My camera is an old fart Kodak model which I hope to upgrade to a nice hardcore DSL one of these days)preferred footwear for many in attendance: sneakers, thongs, and crocsoverall view of the crowd on the Saturday early afternoon...lotsa t-shirts, yeah?I thought I had the girl in this next picture centered better, but oh well, my photo tool isn't working properly today, so no chance to crop it properly. She was dressed stylishly and comfortably...the fedora rocks!the next couple are more random shots of the cr...

A re-awakening
2007-09-23 18:05:00
A second life.A pseudo-vacation, this was my way of expanding on the journey I had taken six months ago when I started this particular blog. I know I want to keep writing about adventures, but I was beginning to feel a bit closed in, claustrophobic, by the content I had set up initially. The walls I had put up were constricting me in far too much for my liking. I was hoping to take only a month off to regroup and reconsider my desires for where I wanted this blog to go, but it ended up being a tad bit longer, and now I think I am ready to venture back out and try and expand my blogging world to encompass more.My biggest dilemma was trying to figure out how to change the URL name to fit a new name. I am so very un-savvy when it comes to anything other than basic HTML, and even that I cheat by using handy online manuals where they walk me literally from line to line. I did not want to change my URL for the basic reason that I was not inclined to go through the trouble of searchin...

A weekend of memories
2007-08-05 18:20:00
Sorry about the lack of posts lately, but I have been running around like a chicken with its head chopped off. I will post the pics I have of each of the following later this week. My silly ole camera is on the fritz and will not allow me to upload off of the SD. On August 3rd, I went over to Randhurst Mall in Mt. Prospect, IL to meet Sarah Jessica Parker for her Steve & Barry’s signing event. She showed up at 2pm, right on time as was scheduled, and the queue must have been a good 150 people in front of me and well over 300 after me in line. Well, for whatever reason, we did not get to meet her face to face due to another agenda item that she had scheduled. One of the S&B employees came around passing out pre-signed photos of her wearing pieces from her BITTEN collection. I suppose this signing event ran over and past schedule, and from what I hear, the same thing happened when she was signing in NY also. We did get to follow her as she walked past all of us in lin...

Per The New Yorker Runway Blog:Yellow overall dress from the Chloe See collection.(Courtesy of Chloe.com)"You may have noticed that Chloe successfully pursued Topshop for copying its yellow overall dress from the Chloe See collection. Topshop agreed to pay roughly $24,000 in compensation and legal fees to the Paris house, and to destroy 2,000 dresses. Apparently, Topshop had already sold 744 dungaree dresses, for around $70 each. Someone here in New York recently told me that he set the well-known litigator David Boies upon a copy king, swearing to tie up the guy in court for years if he copied a certain dress. I hear more and more designers complaining about copying. Do they stand a chance against unseen, unaccountable manufacturers? That depends on their resources. Does Chloe have a corner on a homegrown style that has been very popular this summer? And does Topshop want to risk its goodwill with customers by ignoring Chloe’s claim? One thing is for sure: Integrity isn’t a dis...

Bitter about Bitten? Not anymore that is...
2007-07-29 20:51:00
I've been back to Steve & Barry's once or twice since SJP'S Bitten line first appeared, and it's become a bit boring. Nothing new, nothing eye catching, nothing exciting. Maybe I'm a tad bit bitter because BITTEN has a cardigan in it's collection that the store closest to where I'm willing to drive does NOT carry. I'm hoping that when the Fall pieces from this line come out, the coveted cardi can be found.I must admit though that I will be taking another trip to the Chicago suburb where, yes yes, THE Sarah Jessica Parker will be appearing live to sign autographs and take snaps: Friday, Aug 3rd 2:00PM; Randhurst Mall (MT PROSPECT, IL).YAY! Even if her clothing line has lost most of its air like a deflating balloon, I adore her. Afterall, her show was life changing for many and a part of television history! So check out the BITTEN link for appearances at a store near you!Meeting Sarah Jessica Parker will make up for me being BITTER (not too bitter, but as mentioned bef...

A couple of days ago Filep Motwary posted about the Valentin o exhibit in Rome on his site, uN NouVeau Ideal by fILEP mOTWARY . I have to bring that post to light because he has snaps from the exhibit, and all I have to say is that Valentino ROCKS!Valentino is a genius who knows everything about beauty and class.Valentino reds are infamous, but check out the rest of the snaps off of Filep's site here. No words to describe the beautifulness (is that a real word? it should be ...just of these designs) and grandeur of all that is Valentino.Breathtaking, eh?

Hollywood 'Beck'ons
2007-07-16 03:30:00
I only been posting on this wonderfully fantastic blog of mine since April of this year, and I have done my best to keep out celeb gossip ala Lohan, Paris, Nicole, and that whole lot. However, I must yield slightly and bring to light a fact that is not new news to any of us. Victoria Beckham now resides in Los Angeles, CA, and she has a one hour show on NBC tomorrow, Monday, July 16th at 8/7 Central, Victoria Beckham coming to America .I have to admit that I will be in front of the tele watching. Come on peeps, she's English! And...and...*deep breath*, she is married to THE David Beckham. courtesy of People magazine ...

I am extremely sad to inform you that my beloved JANE magazine is closing its doors forever. The August 2007 issue will be the end of a decade for what I considered to be a great publication. I know a lot of folks considered the magazine to be better when it first started up, but after the original editor, Jane Pratt left, things went to shite, but I still enjoyed what the pages held and always waited in anticipation every month for my issue to come in the mail.Alas, even the website will be shut down once the magazines stop publication. I really am old fashioned in a way, I like my glossies as actual mags I can hold and flip through in addition to being able to zip through it online. It's been a great 10 years, JANE.You will be dearly missed.Cheers!

All you guys are going to be sick and tired of my Harry Potter obsession. I'm going to try and post HP with fashion in mind...try being the magic word.Picture courtesy of hpana You'll have to click on the pic to super enlarge it. I love it because the gang is posing so sweetly, but I love it even MORE because it's IN LONDON!!! This is right off the Thames river and my most beloved architectural structure in London is in the background, the Houses of Parliament, the end with Big Ben himself at the end. Loverly, just loverly! On to the fashion bit. I'm not 100% sure what the boys are wearing specifically, but Emma has on an Alberta Ferrati dress. Emma used to dress a bit frumpy before not due to what I believe to be a bad sense of personal style, but because of a bad stylist. The poor girl started all this at such a young age, she probably didn't know better and left the styling decisions to a 'professional'. Unfortunately, Emma has taken a lot of flack for being on the b...

Mother, activist, style icon, princess.Princess Diana was everything listed above and so much more. She's been gone 10 years now. TEN years. She would have turned 46 years old this year on July 1st.Her sons are honoring her life with a concert tonight at Wembley Stadium commemorating their beloved mother, a Concert for Diana . All proceeds from tonight's events will go to the charities Diana was involved with.I will be aging myself when I say this, but I wasn't even 10 years old when I heard of the lady as she was married to the royal family in 1981. I remember thinking how pretty she was. Looking back now it is clear at how humble she looked.Out of all the crazy paparazzi activity taking place in today's world, the way they've behaved around this royal family makes me the most upset. Not that it should be condoned and acceptable behaviour with celeberties, but those folks are looking for fame, and in some warped way paparazzi are just part of the expected once you arrive ...
A spell has been cast
2007-07-01 18:03:00
Fashion has a tendency to find inspiration from and follow any and all things related to political headlines to pop culture. We had the pirate look when Pirates of the Caribbean was first released. Halloween of 2003 was filled with pirate inspired costumes: swords, eye patches/eyeliner, bandanas worn as headgear, the tall flat-heeled boots, the works. Black eye liner was a hot fashion item for men everywhere you looked.Heck every time a Pirates flick has been released, there is a renewed interest in pirate inspired fashion. Knee high boots were all over the runways this past Fall, and they don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.Fashionista posted this recently, and I've only had the chance now to comment on it. Well, more like elaborate on this story. How can I resist considering it's all about the embodying of Harry Potter into fashion! ...

Mild mannered man of unadulterated HOTness!
2007-06-30 19:02:00
I know this is old news, very old news, but because of the wonderful tendency of premium cable channels to replay the same movies over and over again weeks on end, I have been addictively watchingSuperman Returns.Watching the guy who has become the new face for the superhero, these past couple of weeks, was the one calming factor I had during stressed out moments over the conference organizations for work. The new guy has now found a special place in my heart along with the rest of the the love I have for Superman/Christopher Reeves.Brandon Routh. Talk about tall, dark, and handsome. *SWOON*His uncanny resemblance to Christopher Reeves' persona as Clark Kent/Superman is eerily spot on accurate. This particular characteristic about Routh was probably criticized initially by the media and some of the public, but I think it is endearingly perfect for the role.Growing up, the Chris Reeves version was one of my first ever serious crush, a crush that has not diminished even today long...

An new anthropological scene
2007-06-30 17:23:00
Anthropologie.com has gone through an awesome metamorphosis. The site is even better to maneuver through now than ever before. The prices for each delish item is easily identifiable without having to click on the item's snap for the detailed description page. You can zoom in and out of a picture without having to deal with a pop-up window. Everything is right there on the one page. The prices are still somewhat high, unreasonably so for most of the pieces, but a lovely site none the less. The store, *sigh*, I love walking into Anthroplogie whenever I am near a store location. Maybe its the scents from the potent candles burning in every store, or the seductive sounds of a French song luring me in.Well, whatever the reasons are for loving Anthropologie, there is now one more item to add to that list. Their website is now a tool that can easily guide you through from page to page of beautiful desirable objects. You've gotta check it out!

The loss of a female pioneer
2007-06-30 04:59:00
I've been off organizing an international conference here in Chicago for my bossman, and it's been like living with tunnel vision for the past 2 weeks. I have a ton to catch up on and to catch you lovlies up with!Let's get the saddest bit over with first.Liz Claiborne passed away on the 26th of June 2007 from her battle with cancer which she has been combating for the past few years. This wonderful lady revolutionalized fashion for 3+ decades of women. Her clothes have in recent years taken on the role of dressing of the more mature woman, but this lady is definitely an icon in the fashion industry for everything she has done for the working female. Back in the 70s and 80s when women were emerging into the corporate world and struggling up the corporate ladder alongside the men who domineered most every industry before this timeframe, Liz Claiborne was a prominent pioneer in many ways. For women today who go shopping for suits and business work attire, we find most stores s...

Summertime R&R
2007-06-24 22:53:00
I have this love/hate relationship with summertime. I hate the heat, but I adore the idea of summer. You'd think being a native of India, heat would be something I'm genetically accustomed to, but, alas, that's so not true. Anything hotter than 80 degrees is not my cup of tea.The whole concept of summer, however, is beautiful in the sense of rest and relaxation mixed in with fun and frivolity.Have I completely lost you yet?Anywho....here are a few snaps I've caught sight of recently which might help simplify what summer means to me (when I'm not actually in the heat of things...):the epitome of summertime refreshingly cool relaxing peaceful Only in brief bursts of thought do I ever rethink my choice of living in such a metropolitan city like Chicago. I truly am blessed to call this wonderful town home, but sometimes, if I was rich and could afford to, I wish I had a country home, with a loverly porch, where I can sit and sip iced tea on a clean, clear summer's day.Kids, it ...

With Apprehension and Excitement
2007-06-24 18:47:00
***courtesy of The Leaky Cauldron , Order of the Phoenix London Press Conference, June 2007i LOVE them (Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson respectively) who have brought a sense of reality to my Harry Potter fantasy world!many do not share my adoration for the actors who portray the characters in the world created by J.K. Rowling. But for me, the movies and the books are like two sides of the same coin. Even with the alterations and deviations the movies have from the original manuscripts, the flicks are wonderful in their own right. For me, in relation to Harry Potter, the two mediums go hand in hand.Even though I have this platform in which I am able to voice my opinions, my desires, my obsessions, I was not going to post anything in detail about my Harry Potter fascination. Not ever. HP was where I held refuge on those many days when I found my self alone, when friends and family were nonexistent. I found solace in the lives of these characters. The inside workings...

Emily Deschanel can be found in certain photographs of his as well. Need I say more?Eerily beautiful with the capability to manifest a sense of fear and aweYou should check out his site. Don't mind The Gap...
2007-06-14 04:00:00
It would go to seem that I completely forgot to mind the gap and fell right down between the cracks.Alrighty then, after last night's impulsive post, I've learned three things1. I'm apparently not as efficient as I thought I was at researching the w3 because I could not find a SINGLE item on the topic of The G ap being taken over by H&M. Twasn't even on the website for the news station I was watching! What's up with that?2. I was hallucinating. I was having some bizarre dream of H&M devouring up every Gap store. Yeah. 3. The newscasters fibbed. Not likely. So maybe the news was misheard, maybe the news station was breaking ground by being THE first to report this story.Number 2 above is probably the most likely what happened. Lack of sleep can do that to a person.Sincere apologies to those peeps who viewed this blog between, oh, yesterday and today and was wondering what this girl is jabbering on about. Is it Friday yet? I need a day where I get to sleep in.
