Eco-Chic: Elezar Vegan Handbag

So, I've not had much luck with vegan handbags...admittedly, I've not seen many in real-life, other than Stella McCartney and random non-leather bags at Target, but generally, they leave something to be desired: I cannot FATHOM spending $1000+ on any of Stella's bags, and I don't like the "stiffness" of Target bags. When I say vegan, I'm referring to faux-leather handbags, not canvas or fabric bags, Ananas makes some really cute canvas/fabric bags that are also vegan (obviously), but I'm not talking about the obvious non-leather vegan handbags in this post :-) There are definitely more appealing options for faux-leather vegan handbags online now, one of the pioneers is Crystalyn Kae, and Elezar just launched a couple of new vegan styles available at Style Scene.

These days with denim, you're either paying $200+ or under $50...there aren't a lot of mid-end options out there anymore. Enter Blank , a new AFFORDABLE (read: under $100) denim brand available at Tobi (save 10% with code 10GRECHEN). My favorite styles are the high-waisted wide legs: and the high-waisted flares: Blank starts at $48 for a pair of short shorts and tops out at $78 for the high-waisted wide-legs I featured above. Not bad for a cute, simple pair of jeans. For a great eco-friendly denim alternative, try Good Society , also at Tobi.com. Good Society denim is slightly more expensive - up to $109 - but these Japanese-designed jeans use certified organic cotton and all dyes are eco-friendly. Worth paying a bit more for if you ask me :-)

Following my mission to be more environmentally thoughtful, I am also making an effort to get my money to serve a dual purpose. For example...I bought my mom and sister each the Feed 100 bag for Mother's Day. I purchased the bags at my local Whole Foods for $30, and each bag purchased provides 100 school children 100 meals through the UN World Food Program. They both loved the bags (they're great for groceries) and I love that I actually bought gifts for 202 people instead of just two :-) I also love to help people help themselves, especially female entrepreneurs. Eco-Chic: Form & Fauna Penny Wedges

I've been everything...a vegan, vegetarian, kosher...and now, the only restrictions I put on my food is that it must be natural and have very few ingredients (I do make an exception for sour jelly belly jelly beans though. yum!). But even when I was a vegan, I continued to wear/carry leather partly because I just wasn't ready to give it up, but also this was more than 10 years ago; chic vegan accessories were hardly readily available. Now that they are, though, stylish vegans have no excuse! These penny wedges by Form & Fauna at Green Rohini are just about the cutest wedge sandal I've seen in a while...and they're vegan. They're definitely not cheap, but neither are many of the cutest vegan shoe lines, like Natalie Portman's new collection for te casan, Beyond Skin's lovely flats, or Stella McCartney's always vegan designs. I've been following Casch Copenhagen for a couple of years, since I purchased a lovely wool jacket from Anthropologie. I still wear that jacket in cooler weather, but now I can get my Casch fill in the Spring/Summer months as well! I ordered these two sweaters last week from Active Endeavors (using the grechen coupon code to save 20% of course...), and they just arrived today. I had originally wanted them to wear over dresses, but the pink striped one especially is too long and big. The yellow short-sleeved sweater may work over dresses...but I prefer it as a t-shirt alternative with jeans. The pink sweater is perfect for keeping in my purse for when I am running errands, or have to be inside AT ALL; I literally freeze whenever I am in the air conditioning! The sweaters are a bit itchy, but not so much I think they will be uncomfortable for a few hours wear. They are hand-wash only, and very delicate, but that's what makes them so perfect for warmer weather!!

I'm not quite sold on the neon trend this season (or was it last season?), but I'll make an exception for pink...and I have long been in love with Marc Jacob's Zipclutch wallet. The strap is a great addition; you can carry it as a purse now, or a clutch. It's also available in acid yellow, but for $550, you better be sure you'll use this thing for many, many years!!

I am so excited to review one of Beth Springer's eco-chic handbags! I've been a fan of her line for quite some time, and now that I have an Ecovertible bag, I'm an even BIGGER fan! The Ecovertible bag is made from suede and reclaimed leather "bits," it's also lined in organic hemp linen. The Ecovertible is totally convertible from a shoulder to a messenger bag and is the perfect size for essentials. I carry a large wallet and makeup bag, a SIGG water bottle, and random electronic equipment; everything fits perfectly, and is easy to access. I received this bag last week and have carried every day. Honestly the thing that impresses me the most about this bag is how light it is; I almost forget I have it on!
