Tuesday Deals...And A Couple Freebies.
2008-04-15 14:10:00
I keep thinking about purchasing a larger LCD monitor (since my husband struggles at times with our 15" screen), and it looks like Best Buy is a good place to seriously start looking for one! If any of you know of a better deal, feel free to give me a shout out :)19" widescreen flat-panel LCD monitors starting at $189.99 at BestBuy.com. Valid 4/13-4/19. While you're surfing at Best Buy, visit their Outlet section and search for "Microsoft photo paper"....you can get 100 4 x 6 sheets for $5.99. I appreciate all of you who have already signed up via my link :)The frugal shoppers over at FatWallet are talking about a fantastic deal this week on Pepsi products at Target. I live a good hour from the closest Target, so the cost of gas would definitely void any savings for me, but t...

Here are a few frugal posts that may be of interest that I discovered in the blogosphere this week....plus a couple of deals for you! With money being tight for so many people right now, I seem to be seeing an increase in posts concerning how to cut costs and save money. Madison polled her readers at My Dollar Plan for some of their best money-saving tips. There were actually a few tips I hadn't heard before :)Cheap Canuck blogged about the financial perils of being a clean freak. I'm with you on this topic Cheap Canuck! With the ridiculous, ever-changing price of gasoline, Lynn over at WiseBread shares how to save 54 cents a gallon. This is wise advice that we should all practice. Many of us have learned to take advantage of the great sales/rewards/rebates at Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid. I know there have been times when I've acquired more than I've needed because I was able to get products for little to nothing. Crystal, over at Money Saving Mom, discusses ways for us to share o...

Thursday's Frugal Deals....
2008-04-10 13:09:00
I'm a movie buff and The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies ever. I still say it should have won a best picture Oscar in 1994 instead of Forrest Gump, but that's just my opinion. Amazon has this amazing 2 disc set for under $6 right now. I'm not one for buying DVDs unless they're an absolute favorite of mine and I could watch it over and over....this movie is one of those gems :)Shawshank Redemption $5.99 Did you know that LL Bean has a special sale item posted each and every Thursday morning? Just visit their "Sale" link every Thursday and you'll see the link for the special. This week it's a women's Lightweight Faux-Shearling Jacket, regularly priced at $79 but on sale today for $29. LL Bean is certainly a higher-priced retail store, but their products are of such high quality that it's often worth taking the leap. I'm a big fan of their barn jacket...I bought one several years ago and will get so many years out of it. It's worth keeping your eyes peeled f...

My Trip To Walgreens This Week....
2008-04-09 13:22:00
Let me start out by saying....Congratulations to the Tennessee Lady Vols for their second consecutive NCAA Championship! Who knew I'd become a Lady Vols fan when I moved to Tennessee 8 years ago? It's been one awesome year for Tennessee fans :)I wanted to give a run down of my Monday Walgreens trip. You all can save a ton of money if you learn how to play the "drugstore game" at Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid. Pair up the sales, manufacturers coupons, and each store's reward incentives, and you can often times make a profit. I didn't profit this week at Walgreens, but didn't do too bad.* Two boxes of Post cereal. These were on sale for $2 a box and I had a $1/2 coupon that I used. Total price for both = $3 + tax.* Three boxes of 120 count Kleenex tissues. These were $1.19 each and I used a Walgreens coupon making them .89 a box, plus a .50/3 manufacturers coupon. Total price for three boxes = $2.17 + tax.* Three packages of Extra gum (15 count). These were on sale 3 for $2.0...

The Friday Finish....
2008-04-04 06:17:00
Another week has come and gone.....and now it's time for my Friday Finish .There has been so much talk recently about the sad state of the economy. Just a few days ago, Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, actually mentioned the "R" word... but only went so far as to say that "a recession is possible". I'm no economics expert, but I wish all the powers that be would stop insulting our intelligence. Can you imagine Ben Bernanke and Suze Orman having a 1:1? The sad truth is that times are more than just a bit dismal for our entire country.... and no amount of sugar-coating is helping matters. All you have to do is take a look around the blogosphere and you'll see what many are talking about....Lynnae, over at Being Frugal, polled her readers for tips on surviving a recession...you'll find 168 tips! When times are hard, you may find you need to cut back. Save Even More With The Coupon Clippers
2008-03-28 02:29:00
I just joined The Coupon Clippers and I love it already! This website specializes in processing orders for manufacturers coupons. When I first became aware of The Coupon Clippers and similar websites, I wasn't quite sure how I could benefit from using them....I figured I already knew how to clip my own coupons. Oh, I love coupons and I have my scissors ready on Sundays to clip, clip away. But there are times when there are really great coupons for products I use often...and there I am stuck with one measly coupon in the paper. But then a little light went on recently and I realized this is one resource I'd be silly not to use for particular items I use often.Take my first order with The Coupon Clippers, for example. We drink Maxwell House coffee...and lots of it! Coffee is one of those things that I only buy when it's on sale and I usually stock up. Recently, there was a $1 manufacturers coupon in the Sunday coupons. Perfect!...but I only got one coupon and like I said, we drink ...

One More Coupon Tip....
2008-03-24 12:34:00
Did you happen to notice there were no coupons in your Sunday newspaper yesterday? This can be a disappointment if you're a coupon junkie like myself. However, I learned some time ago that there aren't coupon inserts in your Sunday paper on holidays or holiday weekends. Don't ask me how the powers that be decided on this, but at least you'll know not to expect them around these times and therefore won't find yourself wondering why you didn't get any coupons!Speaking of coupons....did you know there's a website where you can preview what coupons will be in your Sunday paper? This is great if you're planning your shopping trip for the upcoming week and want a headstart...or if you're trying to decide whether it's worth your while to purchase a Sunday newspaper. Check out TaylorTown Coupon Preview and you'll be in the know a few days before the Sunday paper arrives :)I've posted this before, but just noticed the offer is still active and it's a great coupon. Good news!...Shortcuts is now live and you can sign up right now. If you use store savings cards, you can now download coupons right onto your store card for immediate use at the store...how cool is that? I don't know if they'll be adding new merchants soon, but they currently partner with the following stores: Kroger, Kroger Marketplace, Ralph's, Gerbes, QFC, Hilander, Smith's, Smith's Marketplace, Baker's, King Soopers, City Market, Pay Less, JayC, Dillon's, Owen's, Fry's, Fry's Marketplace. Looks like they just need to add Food Lion and Ingles, and I'll be a happy girl :)*There's still 10 days left in March to take advantage of the $10 sign up bonus at Ebates....

Some Spring Deals....Happy Spring!
2008-03-20 14:13:00
Happy Spring Everyone!...can you believe it's finally here? Sorry I've been out of the loop the last few days. I had to take Cassie to the vet again. What was supposed to be a simple spay procedure has been complicated by the fact that she first had a negative reaction to her external sutures....that was about 10 days ago. I then took her back yesterday to learn she was once again having a reaction, this time to her internal sutures (which are still dissolving). We have her on antibiotics and her little problem is clearing up already. This problem has all been exacerbated by her high activity level....how are you supposed to stop a wild weimie from treeing every squirrel in the backyard? So, now I'm making sure the backyard is squirrel-free before she goes outdoors...and she and Ridley (our wild German Shorthair) both go out separately so as to prevent them from running around the yard 100 MPH!On to some Spring goodies.....Want a Uniden 2.4 Ghz Cordless phone for FREE after rebat...

2008-03-14 05:15:00
I went grocery shopping a few days ago and was looking to purchase some whole wheat flour. Okay, so I've been meaning to buy some mainly because it's so much better than the enriched white flour which is stripped of all the good stuff, but this particular day I wanted some to try out a new recipe for homemade dog biscuits (as if my two hooligans aren't spoiled enough). Anyway...I'm standing there in the grocery aisle with my jaw dropped, wondering how whole wheat flour could possibly be $2.81 for a 5 pound bag! I then noticed that the white flour was priced the same. This was more than double the regular price! I am certainly aware of the recent rise in grocery prices, especially among food staples (eggs, milk, bread), but I had no idea that the price of flour would rise so astronomically...boy, was I wrong. The ever-rising price of grain is sending shockwaves through the grocery stores. Folks, I keep hearing over and over, grocery prices are going to get worse before they get b...

Save $25 On Flowers At Brecks
2008-03-13 18:32:00
If you're thinking about planting some perennial flowers to bloom this summer, now is definitely the time to start planning. I've ordered from Brecks before and they have an amazing selection of bulbs and plants that you just can't find say at Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc. Right now, you can knock $25 off a $50 purchase, so it's a perfect time to start perusing for some summer blooms.I love to plant things and watch them prosper, but sadly I'm not as inspired this year because my 1 1/2 year old German Shorthaired Pointer, Ridley, still has a strong propensity to dig, dig, dig! I lost many a plant and even two nanking cherry bushes last year because of my wild little man. I took this picture of him last summer posing among my 4 o'clocks...before he decided they needed to go too...one by one. Incidentally, I have some pink and yellow 4 o'clock seeds from last year's flowers that I'd be happy to send FREE to the first two people who request them...just comment in this post :)Get Cash ...

Enjoy Taking Surveys?
2008-03-10 13:56:00
How many of you complete online surveys? There are many online survey companies out there....some reputable, and some not so reputable. Stay away from survey sites where you have to pay to join. If you see ads stating that you can earn $50-$75 for completing a survey, you may want to take those offers with a grain of salt. From what I've read, most people don't typically receive those kinds of earnings. I'm posting links to a few survey companies that I have participated with for years and can personally vouch for based on my own experiences.I have never entertained getting rich by completing surveys online..... but I do find it fun and entertaining, and the chance to earn money or win prizes is a nice incentive. Some survey companies will offer you a small cash reward (i.e $1-$5) if you qualify for and complete a survey, in addition to earning entries for prize drawings. Some allow you to accrue points which you can then redeem for merchandise. You may also have the opportunity ...

Here are a couple of posts that may be of interest that I discovered in the blogging world this week....plus a couple of deals for you :)Linsey over at Wisebread discussed 5 sleekmarketing ploys that can gouge consumers at the grocery store. Linsey notes that instead of providing better food in larger quantities, food manufacturers see that consumers are often left with only sleek packaging and less product. I finally made it to Walgreens this morning before this week's sale ended. I had submitted last month's rebate online one week ago (in select states now)and was hoping my Walgreens card would be re-charged in time for this week's trip, but it didn't happen! Anyway, I got several good buys today and earned $9.90 in rebates from this month's EasySaver catalog. Here's a rundown of my purchase. These are all products that I use regularly, making this trip very worthwhile.* Two Glade Candle holders with 2 refills. These were on sale for $4.99 each and I had a BOGO manufacturers coupon (buy one get one free). I also will get two $2 rebates from the EasySaver catalog. Total price for both = .99 + tax* One Oust Candle holder with 2 refills. This was also on sale for $4.99 and I used a $2 manufacturers coupon. I will also get a $2 rebate from the catalog.
