can't get enough
2008-01-11 19:36:00 We got the first teaser a couple of days ago and now we get these (above). Here's a interview with Marc Jacobs talking about the campaign. Also, look in the Feb 08 issues of Vogue and Interview magazines for more images. In the Juergen Teller photos, V.B is popping her head out of the shopping bag, stepping out of a gift box, or simply posing with her best signature pout. ?There was a lot of discussion about Victoria being in our ads and tons of blogs on the Internet about ?Should she or shouldn?t she?,? ?What?s going on with Marc Jacobs?,? and ?Has he lost his mind??,? Jacobs explained. ?We thought the funniest thing would be to show the Victoria Beckham ads that don?t show Victoria Beckham, but just to see those legs coming out of the bag.??The images are humorous and ironic,? Victoria explains. ?You can?t be afraid to experiment with fashion, especially when working with Marc and Juergen ? you have to push the envelope and show a different side.?Marc is a genius,? she added. ?I...
sex panther
2008-01-11 06:09:00 I know everyone has experienced the overpowering smell of Cool Water or Curve cologne. Five minutes later, you see the actual wearer walk past. I never understood how a man could bathe in cologne without singeing his own nose hairs.Portfolio magazine had an article, Passing the Smell Test, which talks about men wearing fragrance in the workplace. There are quotes from Tom Ford, the term 'metrosexual' is alluded, american vs. euporean grooming, and some valid words of wisdom for men buying fragrances. [which i've included below].I love mens' fragrances, I have been known to dip into their bottles. I also have more respect for the man if I don't recognize his scent. Maybe I'm just a snob. In some of my previous workplaces, we weren't even allowed to wear any fragrance, which was nice for my nose but unfortunate on those days when I wanted to feel 'pretty'.Here's the list that they suggest, but read the tips before going out and buying one for the man in your life...Tom Ford ... 2008-01-11 01:29:00 Maybe she has a sense of humor after all. This is Victoria Beckham in Marc Jacobs?s new Spring ?08 campaign, photographed by Juergen Teller. I think she is being eaten by a Marc Jacob's shopping bag. The focus is on the shoes, even though she is a pretty big name to be featured in a campaign. Am I smelling a trend here...photo: fashionweekdaily and style.com More About: Feet

strange attractions: footies
2008-01-09 06:09:00 I already know that this is a huge "what not to wear" no-no, but yeah, I don't care. These take me back. waaaaaaaaay back. I was just thinking the other day if anyone made these kind of pj's for adults and then voilą! For those not familiar, these are adult size footed pajamas. They come in varying styles, including drop seat. I have my eye on the pink leopard print.photo: pajama city More About: Attractions , Strange
mr. blackwell
2008-01-08 20:44:00 Mr. Blackwell has come out with his annual worst dressed list. I know that you wait for it each year! (you can't hear the sarcastic tone through the computer, but it is there) Here it is with his own personal quotes.MR. BLACKWELL'S 48TH ANNUAL WORST-DRESSED WOMEN LIST[10] Alison Arngrim: "Little Nellie of the prairie, looks like a 1940's fashion editor for the Farmers Almanac."[9] Lindsay Lohan: "Lindsay the fashion frenzy strikes again! dream cake
2008-01-08 19:14:00 This is fucking ridiculous. Excuse the language, but nevertheless appropriate. There was this bride named Chidi Ogbuta in Allen, Texas who had a life-like and size cake made of herself for her wedding cake. Her husband is whipped. I think it is rather morbid to eat yourself. I am just saying.photo: cnn More About: Cake , Dream
not the face please
2008-01-08 08:44:00 You know the models are mad because you can't see their faces! I finally picked up my US Vogue today (it is taking more and more motivation to read) and saw this new Valentino ad & it stuck out. Not only because sans faces but also the lighting. In case you are wondering, the models are Amber Valetta, Anja Rubik, Raquel Zimmerman, and Shalom Harlow. photos: popcrunch More About: Face
red carpet for some
2008-01-08 07:25:00 I'm usually not a huge red carpet watcher...but I'm bored. I'm not really sure what the Critics' Choice Awards are, but with all the sadness of no Golden Globes, this might be all we get. Plus I saw this picture of Katie Holmes and got interested. Every time I see the new Katie....or Kate, is that what she is going by now. Because with a "transformation" comes a new name...it is like she discovered her inner style d-va. See, Tom Cruise does have some positive affects.I also liked Kyra Sedwick's red Oscar de la Renta dress. I don't know about Amanda Bynes' lilac Narcisco Rodriguez . I like the dress, but something just looks off.photos:Frank Micelotta/Getty; Matt Sayles/AP; Kevin Mazur/WireImage More About: Red Carpet , Carpet
practicality is overrated
2008-01-08 06:48:00 My best friend was over while I was unpacking and picked this up and asked if it was a bomb. I don't know if I should be worried that my bf thinks I'm packing heat, or is that more a reflection of her? It is actually my travel jewelry case. We then started talking about how practical it was and how rare it was for me to have something that practical. Again, should I be worried? We have all come across something in a store that caught our eye. We picked it up, examined it, thought to ourselves "This would be nice to have. It is "cute" yet practical....but I really don't need it." You put it down and go your merry way. You put it down because it either wasn't edgy enough, too cute, diverted your attention from the real shopping mission, or reason that you'll never need an oversized umbrella, right? However, it never fails, a couple days, weeks, months go by and you find yourself wishing that you could replace that impulsive buy of that peach colored tutu with a nice pair of rain bo... shirt couture
2008-01-08 06:41:00 I'm not buying it. ooh, I made a joke. I was flipping through my W magazine and saw the ad for Walter Voulaz - Shirt Couture . I automatically put it into the same catagory as Juicy Couture, which I loathe. I am over how designers think that they can slap "couture" on it, and it becomes fancy. I doubt anything sold via yoox is all handmade. Even with all of my negativity, I actually liked the shirts. They have a lot of details which I love and would probably consider buying. I don't know what to do with myself now.photo: walter voulaz
blason
2008-01-07 13:38:00 Louis Vuitton and Pharrell Williams are finally debuting their new line of fine jewelry, Blason, on January 21 during the upcoming Paris couture shows. Pharrell collborated with Camille Miceli (the LV creative consultant who now designs jewelry for the brand and handles Marc Jacobs's personal public relations.)"Specific details on the collection have yet to be released, but Louis Vuitton is expected to unveil four separate and distinctly themed lines under Blason that will launch this spring at its flagship stores worldwide. The pieces range in price from 1,400 to 420,000 Euros, or approximately $2,070 to $621,000...featuring combinations that include, but are not limited to, white gold with diamonds and yellow gold with diamonds."I want to see what the pieces look like, but I guess I'll have to wait. This is not the first collabo between Pharrell and Louis Vuitton. Back in 2005, he help design and launch the house's first sunglass collection with A Bathing Ape founder Nigo.photo...

when ugly dresses happen to pretty girls
2008-01-07 02:21:00 vbecks. That is what I call her. You heard it hear first and I'm claiming it! Anyway, vbecks stepped out of St. Albans restaurant in London, wearing a neon yellow/green lace dress with matching shoes. My opinion....vbecks sits back and thinks of all the outfits that she could wear just to see how many people follow suit. Quite a racket she has going on. I have a skinny neon patent belt this color. I haven't worn it but I got it for only $2 thinking you never know. I imagined wearing it with maybe all black and this bright pop of color, as they say, for the belt. Do you think vbecks would want to borrow it?The agency that provided this picture wrote in the caption, that the restaurant's typical meal only costs £20.00! (they provided the exclamation point, not me.) They also published a copy of the menu just in case we didn't believe them or have internet access (see how that works?). I say that is pretty cheap for all the press she got from wearing an ugly dress and I bet that th... More About: Girls , Dresses , Pretty , Ugly
on the advertising front: belvedere vodka
2008-01-06 22:25:00 Below is a recent Belvedere Vodka ad on the back cover of one of my fashion magazines. There is was, lying on the sofa, looking back up at me. Can you find the fugness? Let me walk you through it.Working clockwise from the left. We first have the Maggie Gyllenhaal lookalike...sequined shift dress with shiny leggings/pants. Check. Next, bleach blond with matching drape dress. I don't know how I feel about matching hair & dress combo. She probably should have switched with the girl in the red. Speaking of, cute red dress. Trendy yellow scrunch stretch belt, which could have been left out. And purple tights, like. Now, focus your eye on our last model. What does she have on her arms? Albino rats? Her arm wear took all of my attention away from what I think is suppose to be the focus of the ad...the big 'ol bottle of vodka. Was the game plan to capture the viewers attention with the albino rats and hope our eyes divert 20 degrees? Personally I could barely get past the damn thin... More About: Advertising , Front
mama needs a new pair of shoes
2008-01-06 11:07:00 There are two things that I like about this picture. The chair and the shoes. Keep the dress and Tori. I can't tell if they are satin or the same material as the chair, I just like the sheen and the color regardless. When I saw them, this is the conversation I had in my head -Why don't I have blue shoes? I have the obligatory blacks & browns, then the reds, greens, yellows, whites, silvers, greys, golds, bronzes, beiges/camels/tans, hot pinks, light pinks but no blue? And while I'm thinking about it, no purple either! Strange. Are her shoes purple instead of blue? I need both either way. Well, I do have that navy blue pair, but those are strictly for conservative work purposes only. And then there are those dark turquoise heels, but those are more in the green realm. Come to think of it, I don't have a lot of blue anything. Except my jeans, but those don't count, because they really aren't "blue" you know. I know why I don't have a lot of blue. love notes: silky pop
2008-01-05 09:08:00 Every time I hear the name Silky Pop, I think of the N Sync song - Dirty Pop. No? Besides that, it is an Hermes eco friendly re-usable shopper bag....for $960 (£540/705 ?). Very pretty and luxe (hence the silky) and folds from its 10"x 14" x 6.5" size into a leather carrying case. My reservations...how sturdy is it really since the material doesn't seem very durable plus do you really want to put your food and such (ha!) in your new Hermes bag? Right. So I won't be buying it anytime soon , but I like the idea of having a Hermes scarf as a 2-for-1. Plus, you don't have to strategically fold it...American versionsEuropean versionsphotos from hermes More About: Love , Notes
flattery, the best form: doo.ri skirt
2008-01-04 07:04:00 I have lusted after this Doo.Ri skirt for awhile. It is a pleated twill skirt (87% silk, 13% wool) over at eLuxury for $595.I like the wide waist band and of course the pockets. And the back...You can imagine my happiness to find the skirt below at the thrift store for $2.95. Mine! It isn't Doo.Ri nor exactly the same, but whose complaining when I am saving $592.05...theorectically. Instead it is a "Eleanor P Brenner" and 100% wool. Also a more of a winter white than the khaki. But it has a wide waistband, pockets (!), pleats and the slit in the back. All is right.photo: doo.ri shirt from eLuxury; eleanor p brenner from me More About: Skirt , Form

got her toes done up, with her finger nails matching
2008-01-03 23:50:00 Do you remember these Dior ads from last year? I was going through some old mags and thought back to last summer, so here we are. The ads inspired a look for my nails. I feel like my nails are an extension of my personality. Know before you go judge, I don't do the acyclic or grow them vampire length. But before I started my grad program, I thought nothing of rocking the teal or the bright purple or both together. My favorite shade is called "twell" which in this mixture of dark teal with a hint of blue. As I was walking to my orientation, I had to make a detour to a drugstore and buy some remover to wipe away the canary yellow polish.Looking closely at Stam's fingernails this past summer, I liked the design, so I decided to do it using silver & black. I remember stopping at a coffee stand and the coffee girl looooving my nails. Thirty mins later I am on campus sitting in front of a chunky finger, gold ring wearing on every finger, university representative who asked to see my... More About: Nails , Finger
cashmere mafia
2008-01-02 23:38:00 I dunno. I've heard about this show forever and now that it is about to premiere, I dunno. Yet I've set my DVR to record it nevertheless. I was doing a little research and there are a zillion fansites out there which is weird to me because it hasn't even officially aired!! I also found out that it is a dramedy (could be a little quirky, campy -- i like both of those ideas), it is from the producer of "Sex and the City" (hence the hype), stars Lucy Lui (i like her) and I found this blurb on wikipedia -"Cashmere Mafia will follow the lives of four ambitious and sexy women, who've been longtime best friends since their days at business school, as they try to balance their glamorous and demanding careers with their complex personal lives by creating their own "boys club" (The Cashmere Mafia ) to protect each other and discuss their personal ups and downs as they try to have it all in New York City."This made me perk up a little. I am hoping that it will have great clothes and have th...

of all time??
2008-01-02 08:11:00 So, Sky Movies and In Style magazine conducted a survey for the "Best Film Costume Of All Time " and Keira Knightley's green dress from the movie Atonement won. Hmmm....I agree that it is a pretty great dress, and it has become 'that green dress', but I am very hard pressed to commit to the OF ALL TIME part. It is the most recent on the list, plus I am curious as to if the people surveyed were given a list of options or asked to name their favorite? What people? Film companies involved? Why am I so naturally sceptical of everything? Sky Movies director Ian Lewis said: "There's no doubt that Keira Knightley's dress in Atonement created a massive stir this year, so it will be interesting to see whether it attains this iconic status in years to come." Very interesting. I really doubt it. And by the way, Sky Movies commissioned the survey to coincide with its Fabulous Film Costume Season. Here's the rest of the list with pictures and a bit about how the dress became[2] Marilyn Monr...
happy new years!
2008-01-01 19:41:00 2007 was so lame, but now that 2008 is here, everything is alright! I am feeling surprisingly good for the day after nye....I paced myself. Plus I am going over to my parents' house in a couple of hours to eat. They always host a new years' dinner, so I have to make a good appearance...no hangovers. I've been drinking from open bars for the past two weeks and open bars seem to bring out the inner harpy. Before you know it, you are mixing white russians with Guinness with white wine with vodka tonics with mimosas with champagne. What was I thinking...Last night I wore a dress that I made...kind of. It started its life as a muu-muu. A big navy blob with a zipper in the back which I got from a vintage store. Sometimes you have to have a 'vision' when shopping there. So I cut the bottom off to make a mini dress & hemmed it. It has a front tie which I am magically drawn to and these rhinestone buttons on the sleeve. I paired it with a royal blue belt, grey tights and black ... More About: Happy , Years , New Years

2007-12-31 07:32:00 I long to be a beautiful, confident flamingo dancer...maybe in a past life. I really should make a list of people/things I think I could have been...beatnik, flapper, cat, flamingo dancer, etc. Anyway, I was struck by the visuals of this video. I love the dresses, especially the dancer at the end, and the dark, sulty feeling to a folk song. The song is called "Boy with a Coin" by Iron & Wine . Watch it aloud or on mute, just watch.
wedding roundup
2007-12-31 02:35:00 OK, so I forgot how incredibly hectic and FUN an out of town wedding can be! The only downside is that my nails are a mess and I don't really know why. I did them on Thursday, but now looking down typing, ugg! As you can tell, I didn't get a chance to post much. But, I am also super excited about finally getting to wear my purr-fect dress. More of that later though.I scoured the internet (read: googled) to find what I wore for the brunch and wedding. 2007-12-28 21:37:00 Argggg! I am currently staying at a hotel that has very limited wireless. You have to either go down to the lobby or the business center...dumb. In-room wireless coming soon...doesn't help me right? But other than that, it is a pretty cool place. It is built to have a lodge atmosphere with giant fireplaces and exposed brick/stones and wood. I am here for a wedding (the last one of the year - hurray!). There is this awkward transition going on - packing up Christmas decorations/New Years' decorations/wedding - interesting. Also it is kind of funny because people keep saying - who in the world has a wedding this close to new years???? I don't mind really, I really like staying in hotels. I don't know if it is the exercise room (no excuses!), the spa, not having to clean up behind yourself or the free stuff.OK, there is a group of rumbustious children surrounding me so I am going back upstairs. But I promise to post later on...have some ideas buzzing around in my head. I think...
shopping tales...scarf
More articles from this author:2007-12-26 22:24:00 I forgot to share a little something that I picked up last week while shopping for...er my dad. I wondered in the scarves section because you never know, sometimes people put stuff down in the wrong spot, and you can find men's' stuff in the women's section. Right? Don't judge.I found this scarf in the clearance bin for $5. It is huge (34"x34") and I really liked the colors & shapes. Made in France and 100% silk. Did I mention that it was only $5? And then I folded it into this...Pretty snazzy for $5. Rocked it with my yellow sweater, which in turn lifted up my season spirit enough to actually find something more appropriate for my dad.photos by me More About: Shopping , Tales , Scarf 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
