First, let's get the pleasantries out of the way...MERRY CHRISTMAS!Before you think that I have abandoned my family, I am actually sitting by the fireplace, "watching" a movie with them. I lost the vote on what to watch, so here I am.The holiday has been lots of food and lots of huddling around the tv for either video games or movies. And as you've probably already guessed, there are children involved. It is amazing how much I learn from talking with them yet how old I feel too....even though I am still in my twenties. For example, I learned that these two girls are not the same people.Alyson Michalka & Ashley TisdaleI walk into the room and see Alyson on the screen. Trying to get some cool points (do the kids still say that?), I say isn't that the girl from High School musical (which I've never seen, but could not avoid the hype). Immediately, I am treated with scorn, "that is not the same girl!" Fine, which one do you like better? "I guess about the same, they both can sin...

CBGB closed its doors at 315 Bowery in NYC a little over two years ago. I never went...punk really isn't my scene. I know they had more bands than punk, but anyway, I do have a t-shirt. Can't remember where I got it. Ok, I am getting off track.CBGB was not only known for its legendary shows, but for its dirtiness and griminess. However this spring, 315 will get a spit and polish when it turns into a John Varvatos boutique. Varvatos is a menswear designer, who happens to have some of the only designs that I can get my boyfriend to consider - we are trying to "upgrade" here.It is kind of funny that this location will go from fungus to $300 shirts. I guess it is mildly appropriate because past spokesmen have included - Slash, Ryan Adams, Chris Cornell, Iggy Pop and currently Alice Cooper. We'll see how they tie in the new store with the history. The clientele will definitely be different. Maybe they could at least pick up something from the Converse by John Varvatos. It is less expe...

happy holidays!
2007-12-24 14:20:00
I am gearing up for the holiday festivities with the family and if yours is anything like mine, you know that everyone will be stuffed under one roof, eating & grazing the day away. Ours is very laid back, movie watching, video games (the kids & men) and gossiping about those not in attendance (the ladies). I went to a bachelorette party/hen night this weekend and I am still recuperating, so I am looking forward to sitting here and doing nothing...except maybe a little blogging. I wanted to post some pictures of our night but I thought it would be first, incriminating and second, I like the idea of having some anonymity. Maybe after we get to know each other better. But instead I thought I would just post everything else that comes to mind.

holiday spirit
2007-12-23 03:16:00
I was picking up some last minute gifts yesterday. After having several bouts of road rage, parking lot mishaps, and just a overwhelming presence of dumb people, I found myself very grumpy, in the check out behind a woman who had on (close your eyes and imagine) - bright red leather loafers, red & green plaid pants, a red turtleneck and a "holiday punch" sweater with a Christmas tree and a snowman on the left & right sides. Nice. I tried to divert my attention elsewhere, but my eyes kept drifting back to her....like a magnet.I didn't want to be rude, so I just looked down. Then I started to feel her looking at me. So I looked back up.HER: Look at the line of people behind us!I turn around to see that I am no longer the last person. There are now at least 20 people behind me.ME: Hmmm. Looks like we got here at the right time.HER: I know! There are so many people out this time of year!ME: Yeah. It is kind of hard to have Christmas spirit, having to deal with all these people....

shiny + green
2007-12-20 07:39:00
It took a while for luxury brands to make the leap onto the internet. I mean how long did it take for Prada to finally put some content on their site? Now a new study by the World Wildlife Fund says that the luxury industry is not being green? who says you can?t be green and luxe at the same time? The internet thing was just frustrating, but do you really want (or will it stop you) from giving your money to brands who aren?t doing their part? I for one have taken a very firm stance on conflict/blood diamonds and advocate against them. This new study says that luxury brands are "slow to recognise their responsibilities and opportunities vis-a-vis global warming & ethical trade and [urge] celebrities who help sell the brands to sit up and take note.? The WWF-UK environmental group looked at the world's 10 largest publicly-traded luxury firms and ranked them A to F (best score to worst score). The highest score was a C+ *tisk* and the ranking was based on reports by the companies t...

I am feeling a little political today as you can see...Below is a video of a Venezuelan Interior Minister Pedro Carreno (it is in spanish). Basically, he is attacking capitalism while wearing Gucci shoes and a Louis Vuitton tie. A journalist interrupts his speech and asks if it was not contradictory to criticize capitalism while wearing luxury goods. *awkward*He is at a lost for words for a moment - "I don't, uh ... I ... of course" and then tries to recover by saying - "It's not contradictory because I would like Venezuela to produce all this so I could buy stuff produced here instead of 95 percent of what we consume being imported." ummm...right.I mean seriously! If you are going to make a public speech, make sure you are not wearing something that is directly opposite of what you are talking about. It is like me showing up at a PETA meeting dressed in all leather. Socialism /communism might work on paper, but this is a prime example of why it doesn't in reality - someone has to...

I was looking through the vivre 2007 gift catalog and saw this Knotted Caftan and One-Shoulder Jersey Top both by designer Kai Milla . They are very simple, but still caught my eye.Knotted CaftanOne-Shoulder Jersey Top - front & back viewsNow through Dec. 31st, if you buy any Kai Milla, Vivre will contribute 10% of each sale to the Name Campaign?an effort to raise awareness of the Northern Uganda conflict, in which over 20,000 children have been abducted from their homes over the last three years.I decided to do a little research on this designer and she has a background as a graphic designer and her signature is comfortable architectural draping. She is also the the wife of Stevie Wonder. Below are eight look that I liked from her Spring 2008 show. I like them for their simplicity, yet monochrome details. I wear a majority of solid colors, as opposed to patterns, so my eyes instantly liked the overall collection. Plus, I feel like they are wearable straight off the runway, to th...

love notes: tape measure

barneys new york$45.00Leather covered tape measure with snap detail. Size 2x2.comes in black, white, redNow, before you think I am crazy, I came across this tape measure on Barney's site. At first, I thought it was a kind of odd, but then I became more fascinated. I am a self-proclaimed crafter and also fashionista, so I like the idea of having a stylish tape measure instead of my old plastic one, which I carry a tape measure in my handbag. I don't know about upgrading from a $1 tape measure to a $45 one, but I do like the concept of upgrading (que beyonce song). However, if you think $45 is a steep leap, try finding the Hermès tape measure. As a compromise, I found some other fashionable tape measures (below). For those who aren't that crafty, they are also useful when furniture shopping & decorating, or when the dimensions of whatever you need to buy are not clearly marked on the box. (don't you hate that!). Or pretend you are an interior decorator. And also body measuremen...

I first have to preface that I DO NOT like kate spade. My belief being, that if I wanted to carry around a brightly coloured box - I would break out an old shoe box, construction paper & markers and make my own. Here?s the story...I went Christmas shopping with my boyfriend yesterday (pure foolishness) and I am walking around in housewares trying to find some mugs for his mom. We do not have the same taste in design patterns whatsoever, therefore I decided to just pick out all the things I thought were ugly and ask him "do you think she would like this?"On my quest to hunt down a wide array of french country mugs, I came across the following...My 1st thought: preeeetttyy. def not french country. My 2nd thought: damn! its kate spade. At least, it wasn't a handbag. You know the drill... style hunt: beret
2007-12-18 01:47:00
ever since last winter, i've had this image of a wool, green beret. not military style, but a green somewhere in between pea and kelly. i don't know why, but sometimes i just fixate on the most random things...like the white go-go boots i wanted in high school. (another story). i also think i could have been a beatnik in a previous life. so, i half heartedly searched online, but i would always find some crochet/knit beret or again, end up at some military website.but this winter, i've had a revival after seeing the fall shows...fall 07 rtw - louis vuitton, dkny, versacethe good thing about trends is that it makes it easier to find a wanted item. the bad thing of course is that you risk looking too trendy. however, i think that it takes a different breed to rock the beret. automatically, it makes you look sophisticated, grownup and polished. no one will mistake you as a follower.1-Wool Beret: approx. circumference: 18". wool; dry clean. by Nordstrom; made in France. $22. colours -...

holiday punch
2007-12-17 01:47:00
yep. it is definitely that time of year. while the holiday season causes many to overload on an unhealthy amount of sequins (moi included), others have the unexplainable urge to reach for the cornea scorching holiday / appliqué sweater.i grew up thinking that to be a teacher, one had to actually own a sweater that corresponded with every major holiday. decided that wasn't the career for me based on this belief. years later, my best friend (who ironically was a school teacher) and i developed a game, built-in entertainment, to counter the dreaded sweater.those familiar with the game "punch buggy," you just replace this...with this...basically, every time you see a holiday sweater, you punch the hell out of each other. after a couple of fancier holiday parties, (yes, you wonder who would wear one of these to that kind of dress code, but i guess it fits into multiple categories) we had to modify it to pinching instead, so we could be inconspicuous. oh, did i mention that we made this ...

Sooooooo I am flipping thru the channels and see Rudy from the Cosby Show all grown up. As a side note, I met her once and she really hates it when you call her Rudy...So Rudy is flanked by these two girls and they are all carrying a ridiculous amount of designer shopping bags - Gucci, Dior, etc. Her professor calls to tell her that she is failing her business management class. Rudy hangs up, and gives the "does she know who I am speech" to her two friends. Apparently the business school is named after her father. Next scene is her waiting on the steps of her sorority house, surrounded by at least ten matching pieces of Louis Vuitton luggage. Her phone rings, and the camera zooms into her hot pink handbag. I instantly see that familiar silver plate. Engraved are the words - REACTIONYes, Kenneth Cole. My question is ? for a girl that is spouting off about what kind of pants to take on her ski trip to Aspen ? she went with the Gucci ?they decided to go with a Reaction purse. Really? I...

style maven: kylie minogue
2007-12-16 09:03:00
I think the main reason that I dig Kylie Minogue ?s style so much is that she started like this (right) in the 80s and is so fierce today. When I look at my old school pictures, I don?t cringe?as much. There is hope for us all. She is a comeback story in obviously so many ways and even on her worst days, I think she has me beat on best. These pictures are from her performance at the Nobel concert in Oslo last Tuesday. Now was I the only one that didn?t know that the Nobel Peace Prize had a concert that went along??Apparently it was hosted by Uma Thurman & Tommy Lee Jones. Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox, Melissa Etheridge, KT Tunstall, Earth Wind & Fire, former Aha singer Morten Harket and Junoon, one of Pakistan's most popular rock bands all performed. And oh yeah, Al Gore and the UN's climate change panel actually won the Nobel.Anyhoo, so you see this outfit? I love everything about (except, the fingerless gloves. i am sorry, but i am not drinking that koolaid. chanel or not.) ...

2007-12-13 08:38:00
i tried to hold out as long as possible. trying to ignore them for as long as possible. however, i saw a guy with zubaz on. no lie.for those unfamiliar with them, zubaz (pronounced "zoo-buzz") are the most horrendous pants ever known to man. they are just wrong. they were originally made and targeted to bodybuilders and were available in zebra prints is a wide variety of very bold colors. they were popular in the 80s & 90s and and according to CNN made over $30 million in sales in one year alone. thank goodness though, they soon were determined to be stupid a fad. oh, did i forget to mention that they were primarily worn by men?but low and behold, after 20 years, the company's founders have decided to relaunch them. they've only officially been out for a month and already i had the unlucky pleasure of spotting them. according to their website - "That?s right, 20 years after their inception, Zubaz are back. Often imitated, never duplicated. The one, the only, the original. We?...
