chanel iman
2008-08-14 08:47:00 It just isn't fair. I'm sure if my parents were more future oriented they would have given me a name "destined" for success. However, thank God she is gorgeous. Can you imagine if she was hideous and had the name Chanel Iman ...?

fashion friendship
2008-08-06 07:16:00 When we are put into a situation with totally new people, we naturally gravitate towards the people we can find something in common. When I was meeting my new classmates, the obvious assumption is that everyone would have the 'business world' as a common thread. However, who really wants to talk about that 24/7? *gasp* So, I was really happy to make one of my first friends and our common thread being fashion. It is not like we giggled all throughout class, but I did have a new buddy that I could show off my new purchases and say Bottega Veneta to she knows I am not talking about food. But as you know, here is the 'but'.... One day, she showed up to class wearing a pair of black flip-flops with a "Burberry" plaid ribbon attached to the thong part. On top of that, was some kind of rhinestone hoop. I found a similar pair online for you viewing pleasuring.Of course, I am not shallow enough to call off our friendship because of footwear, but is it just me or do you start looking at p... 2008-08-05 20:47:00 I really wasn't pay attention when I first saw this pic. I wondered who was this fashionable boy? It is actually Katie Holmes and her new haircut, which I actually like. This is her New York outfit. I am beginning to see her less of a drone and more of a stylish figure.photo: popsugar

2008-08-05 14:59:00 I was one of the suckers who went to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in person. Logically, we all know the ebb and flow of the shopping traffic and know what days and times to avoid. Go early on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning and you have somewhat of a fighting chance. However, I found myself at a four story Nordstrom on a Saturday morning. I really tried to embrace the whole scenario. I grabbed a couple of things from the sale rack and made it into the dressing room right before the line formed. However, every 30secs someone would knock on my door to see if it was occupied. So as I am doing my dressing room twirls, debating whether this would be good to wear... *knock knock* You know there has to be a better system than that. Can we throw some hangers on an occupied door or something?Frustrated, I gave up. But unfortunately, I just couldn't leave the store entirely because I was waiting on my super slow friend to make a decision about some earrings or another (nothing but love thou... my favorite time of the year
2008-08-04 14:43:00 summer.I know that it is hot and humid. And if you live in a tourist destination...fanny pack galore! However, I like the fact that I can rock my comfortable chic look for the season and pull the "oh I just threw this together" card. However, every summer I feel that I just don't have enough tops. I mean I practically live in my dresses and jeans. And if we are real with one another, you know you can get away with the same jeans if they aren't too distinctive, but not really with tops. Also on my shopping list, are some cute everyday sandals. But to help solve this and to answer why I love summer so much ....are the sales of course!Today is the last day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. And whether you braved the store (madhouses I tell you!) or shopped online at your leisure, this is just one of many sales that go on this summer. Last year, I picked up some incredible finds during the sales. This year, I got a little slowed down becasue of school. However, I was that girl who br... More About: Time , Favorite , Year
ostrich anyone?
2008-08-04 14:00:00 "The only thing we can say about this utterly delightful vest is that you must buy it soon, because it is flying out of our stores."That is the opening line for this Elizabeth and James Plume Feather Vest over on the Intermix page. I won't insult your intellegence by coming up with jokes, I know that you are more than capable of making up your own...oh the possibilities. It is suppose to be a feather version of a tuxedo vest? Somehow? Actaully, it looks a little better in black. Can someone please tell me where you would wear this, short of backstage at a Journey concert in 1982?photo: intermix
mag rac: vogue italia
2008-08-04 05:17:00 The very first time I heard about this issue, I was incredibly excited, imagining a Vogue magazine with nothing but models of color. The entire project has been extremely successful with the the first printing selling out in 72 hours. Vogue Italia had to reprint 30,000 extra copies for American newsstands, 10,000 for British newsstands and 20,000 for Italian newsstands.Of course I got my copy of the July 2008 Issue of Vogue Italy - A Black Issue. I really wanted the pink cover with Naomi, but that one was already opened and thumbed through. At a "crossroads" between the high traffic copy or Liya Kebede, I choose my shrink wrapped red copy with Liya.I was impressed by the issue and the flow, even though I cannot read Italian... There were even some spreads with chanteuses, Hollywood actresses and 'plus-sized' model Toccara Jones from ANTM. Which between you and me, did not look that plus-size...just regular, but this is the world of modeling. Of course all the top black models (pas...
working on commission
2008-08-04 00:46:00 ...js story continuedAfter deciding what pair of shoes I wanted, the sales lady tried to grab this green dress that I hadn't tried on yet. The shoe sale caught my attention before I could. I told her to check me out only for the shoes and I wanted to look around some more. She tells me that she will hold on to the shoes and I can look around and then bring all my purchases to her. She promptly puts the shoes behind the counter - no negotiation. Flag on the play: she is working on commission. Now, in her eyes, she probably felt that she was doing me a favor to check out only once and at the same time helping out her own pocket. Right? From my point of view, plastic spends as high & far as your credit limit and the magnetic strip takes you. And if she thinks that I am going to carry the pile of clothes that I planned on purchasing all the way back to her in the shoe department, she must be crazy! Furthermore, does she really expect me to tell the other salesperson that will probab... More About: Commission , Working
jessica simpson's shoes
2008-08-03 23:58:00 While scouring the shoes' sale rack, there have been plenty of times where I've seen a cute shoe only to pick it up and see "Jessica Simpson stamped on the sole. I promptly put it back down refusing to spend my money on a Jessica Simpson creation. Then I made some smart comment about that's why it is on the sales table. Well, after repeating this process a couple of times, I finally ran into a pair of grey platforms that I absolutely fell in love with. However, being stubborn I left them at the store. I went back the next day and they were...gone! That was my lesson learned. Yesterday, while at an early morning sale, I spotted these...Jessica Simpson Bonee. On sale from $89 to $28. I picked them up along with some red & grey Nine West cone heel sandals to try on. The sales lady gushed about how she had the red shoes and she loved them, blah, blah, blah, and then made a quick comment about how the platforms were cute, even though they were platforms. I decided on the platf... More About: Shoes
jumper
2008-08-02 00:21:00 I went to Target for the first time yesterday for which seems like ages! I picked up this Rogan® for Target® Short Jumper in Black Sheep. It is sold out on the website, but you can probably find it in the stores...for cheaper anyways! I paid only $9.98. Good thing I was with one of my friends or I probably would have left it at the store. In the dressing room I remember calling out, "It looks kind of weird" before stepping out to my friend who gives me the "yeah, it looks kind of weird" look. But then looking at it for more than 30 secs, we both kind of fall in love with it. Plotting....I could wear it with some pink high heels and maybe a belt. It has this mismatched pink and blue metel buttons, which are hidden once you button it so it really doesn't matter if you don't think that's cute. Also the shorts are kind of short, so it is probably more of a night time outfit. And, it runs kind of small. As in you probably want to try on two sizes bigger kind of small. Thank goodn...

2008-08-02 00:08:00 So as you have probably figured out from my lack of posts, my life as been quite busy. I just finished my first year and will start my second (and final!) year of B-school in two weeks. I am hoping that I won't have to abandon my blog again. I am seriously attached to my computer all the time so I WILL figure something out. I think it is going to be more of my musings (hence the name). I like telling stories, so if you like reading them, this is the right place. I have a backlog of them if you don't mind me telling you two month to two week old stories, but their new to you so what does that matter!? More About: Back

2008-05-13 02:42:00 Isabella Blow & Victoria Beckham? No? This is from the London premier of the Sex and the City movie. I guess Sarah Jessica Parker is paying homage to British style with her chapeau? Anyway, out of all the dresses, I think that I like Cynthia Nixon's dress the best. Shocking! (she's the one in the black dress) Kristin Davis wore a vintage fuschia dress. Cynthia Nixon wore a black Calvin Klein. Kim Cattrall wore a red Vivienne Westwood And SJP wore a Philip Treacy hat with a green prom-style dress and black stilettos by Alexander McQueen. photos: getty via telegraph

2008-05-11 06:02:00 So while I was my doing my obligatory weekly...er sometimes daily Barneys site check and saw this little tease. Apparently, Rogan for Target's Go International line will be previewed and sold at Barneys Madison Avenue flagship on Friday until Sunday, and then at Barneys Los Angeles store from May 16 to 18. Barneys will limit purchases to three pieces. The line will only be in stock for five days and, after that, shoppers will have to wait for the collection's debut at Target as part of its Go International line. This is so weird to me, however, Barneys sells designer Rogan Gregory's primary line, which features trousers for $230, dresses for $320 and anoraks for $450. Rogan for Target will be priced between $15 and $45. If you are not going to be in LA or NYC, I guess you will have to wait until May 18th...not that long.photos: wwd & target More About: Good
upmarket charity
2008-05-11 05:10:00 ok, now this is "an upscale thrift shop." The Oxfam charity has just introduced a new concept in selected "boutiques." Donated clothes will be overhauled by young designers from the London College of Fashion. There will also be clothes and accessories from ethical fashion labels such as People Tree and Wright & Teague. Also, to celebrate the launch, seven British designers have made one-off pieces using clothes from the charity shop which will be auctioned on eBay. For example, Giles Deacon created a bright orange and green 1950s-style dress made from a pair of curtains and Stephen Jones constructed a hat made from pillowcases printed with a map of London. Jane Shepherdson, of Topshop fame, is working behind the scenes with Oxfam on this project. She is quoted as saying - "People don't want to spend money on fast fashion when money is tight. They want sustainable fashion." Just to be clear, Topshop = fast fashion. How I thrive for the cattiness. Meow.I like this idea...they are... More About: Charity

2008-05-05 02:50:00 wwd reports-Net-a-porter.com's business continues to grow, and the company is moving in new directions. Following a redesign of its Web site that increased sales, the company plans to take advertising in its online magazine and has hired fashioneditor Colin McDowell of The Sunday Times of London as creative editor at large to oversee its editorial pages. In the fall, Net-a-porter will open a separate off-price retail site called TheOutnet.com. I wonder....

2008-05-05 02:20:00 Performer M.I.A. has her own clothing line that includes "items such as bomber jackets, leggings and T-shirts, all done up in the bold hues and graphic prints for which the singer is known." You could probably just go to American Apparel instead and call it a day. But according to her, what makes her line different is - "With my stuff, because everything's really bright, if you lose it or someone steals it, you can see it from miles away and you can be like, 'Oy! Give me my shirt back!" Cute.source: wwd photo: miauk.com
cheap & expensive
2008-05-05 02:10:00 As I was driving today, I noticed a new thrift shop. Normally I would be excited, but instead I was confused after seeing this -"An Upscale Thrift Shop"What in the world? Does anyone else think this is an oxymoron? Why would anyone go to an upscale thrift shop and pay a 20% markup for the same clothing down the road? I could understand maybe if it said "upscale consignment" but that is still pushing it. Just for clarification...up·scale?adjective1. located at, moving toward, or of or for the upper end of a social or economic scale: The boutique caters to upscale young career people.2. luxurious, costly, or elegant.?verb (used with object)3. to improve the quality, value, or rating of: a five-year plan to upscale the neighborhood.?noun4.(used with a plural verb) elegant, elite, privileged persons collectively (usually prec. by the): shops that only the upscale can afford to patronize.thrift?nouneconomical management; economy; frugality. books by their covers
2008-04-12 23:07:00 There are a couple of women that I see everyday. I don't know them, but I just seem to cross paths because of similar schedules. Anyway, I always admire, - um critique, study - them from a distance. They are ALWAYS put together and on the days that I don't put my own best foot forward, I feel like slithering under a rock or the nearest boutique and stepping up my game. The funny thing - their styles are TOTALLY different from my own. However, they have a definite personal style and I admire that whether I agree with it or not. I feel like they are so committed to their styles and predictable that I could probably be their personal shopper.(...forshadowing....) I realized that because these women stuck out to me, I have formulated a whole personality on them based on seeing them for about 30 secs each day. I can't really verify any of it, but I know that you've probably done this too even if you won't admit it!I've named her "Nan" - short for Nantucket. She has this sailing / wa... 2008-03-30 18:22:00 There comes a point(s) in your life that you have to reevaluate how you present yourself to the world. I am talking about my phone. For the past couple of years, I have carried around this... It is the hot pink Motorola Razr. It has served me well...Being hot pink, it was a lot easier to find it in my purse. It is also small & compact so when I went sans purse, it fit easily in my pocket. It has been around the world with me and I feel a little bad to let it go. But I just felt like I outgrew the pinkness *gasp* and I really needed a phone that travelled better. I just kept getting uncomfortable every time that I brought my phone out. Throughout my evolution of cellphones, first starting with the two-line green and black screen, every time I upgraded, it was because my contract ended and I got a free phone! Usually, I had just one feature that I wanted -- being able to play song ring tones or being able to IM or a camera. And I went through a lot of unmemorable phones. The Razr ...

2008-02-23 01:56:00 I know I am a little late, but I just saw it again and it still is a little weird to me.During the Superbowl, SoBe Life Water debuted a commercial that featured model Naomi Campbell dancing with some lizards to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." And with the toothbrush hanging out my mouth, it took me a second to figure out that it was Naomi...right around the moment that she kicks.I didn't know if it was my morning haze or what, but I just could not figure out why she was dancing with lizards. 2008-02-22 17:41:00 Hmmmm...This is the Eric Javits Donut Tote. When I look at it, I can't help but think of Louis Vuitton. No? I know that not every patterned bag is a copy of LV, but since I immediately went there, I can't help it. This tote is made with "PVC over gold nylon mesh with tonal leather trim" and goes for $450. Not only does it have the possibility of looking like a cheap LV-esque bag, but you paid almost $500 for it.photo: neiman marcus More About: Donuts

More articles from this author:2008-02-18 07:11:00 I don't think I mentioned what I gave up for Lent. To give you some background, my Lenten season goes one of two ways. Either Lent is in full gear for a couple of weeks and I realize that it is actually Lent and that I haven?t given up anything. Or, I act like a child and give up something that is really easy for me or something that I don?t even like. For example, ?I?ll give up corduroy.? Simple! I?m not perfect, but I am honest. But this year, I decided to do something that would actually be a sacrifice.I decided to give up on-line gossip sites. *gasp*I waste way too mach time clicking my way through these sites. And then I waste even more time, googling and wikepediaing (is that an accepted word? you heard it here first if not.) all the people and places I am unfamiliar with or just NEED more info! It is addictive I tell you. But I must resist until at least Easter.I feel really out of touch with the world right now. Isn?t that sad? I usually tell myself that I am only on the go... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
