I haven't written one of these in a long time. For a while I felt that there was something lacking, perhaps it was inspiration, or it could have been motivation, but the likely answer is both of them combined with a hint of exhaustion. Life had became a routine of uni, work, homework, tv and sleep, I felt no need to make any type of commentary on such mundane things. I didn't want to be "that" type of blogger who pours their hearts out over the internet describing each and every situation in a long winded analysis of their feelings and deep thoughts... oh the melodrama... oh the angst! I could have easily slipped into "that" category being a sporadic drama queen, but at the same time I didn't just want to be "that" other type of blogger who just posts up photos with not much else to say, except " well... like... I went to this party on like Saturday night, and it rocked liked totally" . When I realized I had become "that" I needed a break to consider whether I should continue bl...

'A million girls would kill for this chance'
2007-11-07 15:33:00
I found this article while searching internships for various magazines. Interesting read indeed. From The TimesJuly 10, 2006A million girls would kill for this chanceAn ex-intern at Vogue, tells her storyAmy OliverThe most ridiculous thing I had to do during my three-month internship at American Vogue was to order a blacked-out company limo to chauffeur a plate of cold turkey sausages about a mile to the Hermès showroom. My boss, fashion assistant to one of the more prestigious editors and furiously feisty to boot, thought nothing of spending close to $100 ferrying sausages, or anything else for that matter, around Manhattan. There was no pay, the work was menial in the extreme and yet a million girls would kill for the chance. Yes, what follows is my very own version of The Devil Wears Prada, Lauren Weisberger?s fictionalised account of one girl?s baptism of fire working for an American glossy, and now a film starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. The internship, advertised ...

My bandwidth completely died on the 29th, and being the impatient girl I am I couldn't stand to sit there in front of my computer waiting for things to load at modem (circa 1997) speeds, so I just didn't go on at all. This in turn made me miss a few events planned on my Facebook as well as a few important emails from Uni and work. Life seems to fall in chaos without the internet doesn't it? Thank the technology God for mobile phones, at least I was still contactable, so I didn't miss out on anything too important (like the JT concert! *dies*) and my phone rang, so I turned it off an apologized to my lovely doctor. He grinned at me then said, "diabolical creations they are.""I actually find them quite useful," I replied. And with that he stabbed my arm with the needle. Now what is a diabolical creation is fast food. I would love to lecture you about the delinquencies of fast food (yes, I'm personifying fast food because it's alive and it grows into love handles), but I'm the on...

FridayWeather: Sunny (23 degrees).Top: Ralph Lauren shirt, from my dad's wardrobe LoL.Bottom: Black tights bought in Sydney.Shoes: Black peep toes heels, present from friends.Bag: Gucci Jolicoeur.Accessories: Brown leather waist belt.I've always wanted a men's shirt to wear over a pair of shorts or tights so I borrowed my dad's shirt to wear out to dinner. When I was younger I loved the "boyfriend's" jeans look but then I realized that only looked good on thin leggy models so I completely scrapped that idea. However, recently I've been getting into the men's shirt, t-shirt and cardigan thing, but unfortunately my dad doesn't wear any cardigans so I could only steal a shirt. But I know what I'll be doing next time I visit my grandpa's house.I do apologize for the recent lack of posts. I've been either writing and finishing essays hours before the due date or cramming for exams. Terrible terrible study habits. I will start blogging at more regular intervals from now on sinc...

I've been absolutely flattened with work (mostly studying and for the times of rest I'm working). I can barely breathe let alone blog. But it will all be over soon enough. Next Thursday will be the beginning of my 4 month holiday (YAY NO UNI FOR 4 MONTHS!) And I'll be jetting off to Beijing and Shanghai some time in January, so I'll have lots of material to write about then... Unlike now in which I can only post up some photos of the new clothes I've bought in the past few weeks.New: Fluro pink men's T-shirt I bought at Industrie. I'm kind of liking the fluro colors right now and I needed a few oversized T-shirts so I thought I'll check into Joycie's shop to see what they had.New: Mid-waist black shorts. I really wanted a pair of high-waisted shorts but I need to look like Bruna Tenorio to pull them off, so I settled for mid-waist =(New: Melon pink fluro men's T-shirt from Industrie.New: Men's T-shirt from Industrie. I'm not exactly beach ready yet. I need to run a few times around the neighborhood, do a few laps in the pool and watch that yoga video on repeat, then I'll definitely be ready... although I'm still very pale. I'll probably start frying before the sun even touches my skin. If you see a stupid looking girl with her face covered with piles of clothing, sun baking at Manly Beach then come over and say hi. It will mostly likely be me. I have an obsession for keeping my face pale and my body tanned so I cover my face on the beach to the point of asphyxiation. I haven't vanished, my sister had just used up September's bandwidth on the 25th, and being as impatient as I am, I couldn't be bothered waiting for images to load at dial up speed. So I abstained from the internet for over 5 days. Woo! Go me!Anyway last Friday I finally went for the chop (refer to post All About Hair). I would like to say I was brave and confident about getting a new look but truthfully I was extremely nervous. I'm generally nervous about change. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. The thing was, I kept getting flashbacks of a horror cut a few years back in which I just wanted some nice soft layers but the hairdressers gave me a mullet. I remember crying at my reflection in the mirror. That was my first (and hopefully last) time crying over a haircut.I opted to get my haircut at Luc Espace (pronounced luke air-sparse) in Chatswood Chase this time. The interiors looked nice so I thought they might do a good job. I know I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover but you...

I got my haircut on Friday and I made it shorter than I anticipated. I have to say I love it though. Will share the photos very soon. I just got back from Hunter Valley so I'll do a proper post tomorrow. But for now these videos cracked me up (I'm such a youtube junkie):You can search up the full version, but it's just more of this guys ranting and crying. Seth Green made a video in response. I love Seth Green, I've loved him ever since I saw that movie with him and Jennifer Love Hewitt in it... what was it called, something about a Party?I've never been a Britney Spears fan because I never thought she could actually sing. I used to get annoyed because back in the day (when she wore a modified school uniform around), they compared her to Christina Aguilera. I could never comprehend how these two singers could even be compared with each other. Sure, their image may have been similar back in the early 2000's but Christina has the most amazing voice. These days however, I feel so...

I did a post about Fash ion Icon s a month or so back and I'm kicking myself now for forgetting to include the gorgeous and talented Mika Nakashima, a Japanese singer, actress and style icon.I love a woman who is capable of trying out extremely different styles and pulling them all off. Most of the time Mika does the typical Japanese-girl-in-her-mid-20's style where she wears knee length skirts, footless tights, flats and a baggy top layered on top of a tank. And although she still looks good I am much more inspired and amazed by her whole layers of tulle, chiffon and lace look as well as her punk rock style which she experimented with during her Nana (she played the character Nana in the film of the same name based on the manga of the same name) stage. Below are a few pictures of my favorite Mika Nakashima looks. My favorite is perhaps the last picture on the right. For me there's nothing better than one of my favorite singers and fashion icons wearing one of my favorite fashion d...

They say you can find fashion inspiration from nearly everywhere. I think they may be right. My latest obsession comes in the form of aprons, and before I knew it I was finding inspiration from "adult" costumes sites. Apart from the obvious skankiness, the vinyl and the "ewwww..." factor, I quite like the apron, high socks and petticoats look when they exude an Alice in Wonderland/Lolita cuteness about them. There are definitely a few things you have to ignore in these pictures.I think my initial obsession for aprons came from reading the manga Paradise Kiss (see posts Paradise Kiss + NANA Inspirations and I cry like a baby.) and Gokinjo Monogatari both by Ai Yazawa. Fashion design are main themes in both these mangas and the Happy Berry brand (within the mangas) pulls aprons, big skirts, petticoats, strawberries, cuteness, Lolita, big ribbons, white lace and pink together very nicely. How can you not love something so cute? I wish the "Happy Berry" brand really did exist.I've also g...

Abazias Engagement Rings.I have to say I love weddings! The problem is I haven?t gone to a wedding since I was a flower girl 10 years ago. Most of my coupled off friends are still in University so they?re not at that marrying stage yet, however just last week one of my guy friends confided that he was going to ask his girlfriend to marry him and requested my help in picking out an engagement ring. I was just so happy about the fact that I was going to go to a wedding that I didn?t realize I didn?t quite know his girlfriend?s style. What if I helped him pick out the wrong ring? a ring so wrong that his girlfriend would say, ?NO!? to him. That?s when Abazias Diamonds come in. On the Abazias Diamonds site you can create your own ring with a choice of beautiful diamonds according to the four C?s (carat, clarity, color, and cut) and as well as the setting design. I?ve even created my own dream engagement ring with the nifty Ring Builder tool on the site. Check it out.My perfect ring is a ...

It is six thirty-five in the morning and since I'm not an early riser it can only mean one thing... I haven't slept yet! I've been procrastinating and writing (mostly procrastinating though) an essay on the Chinese health care system in Chinese which has proved to be a complete nightmare. I've been getting into the Chinese mood by drinking strong green tea all night (does that even help with sleepiness?) but alas, my eyelids are still drooping. Before I bore you with my little ramblings on the benefits of a good eight hours rest I shall post up the photos I took a few days ago when I was feeling the sudden urge to decorate myself in all things Ai Yazawa.I think this urge came about when I started re-reading Paradise Kiss a few days ago (as my order of all the volumes finally came in from Kinokyunia) and so once again I became intrigued and inspired by the art and fashion within that manga. (See post I cry like a baby for more information on Paradise Kiss). Each of the three outfit...

I've never had the hair that I have been truly satisfied with. It's always been too flat, too fine and too limp. I look horrible with a fringe, with a quiff and with caps on, so I've always just maintained the standard long hair with a side fringe albeit in many different colors throughout my high school years. Then came Spring of 11th Grade in 2004 when I chopped off my hair and for the first time in 12 years I had hair shorter-than-shoulder-length-hair.For several days I enjoyed the cool breeze on my neck, the easy styling and the savings in shampoo and conditioner but it wasn't before long before I started hating my short hair. I ended up spending a longer time styling it (blow dry, then straightening iron and then lots of product), I felt unfeminine, not as sexy and I hated the fact that my hair was no longer versatile. It took a painstaking 3 years for my hair to grow to the desired length again and then finally I put hair extensions in, which for a few months created my drea...

Since there has been nothing exceptionally exciting going on recently let me use this time to introduce you to an actress I admire a lot. You've probably already seen Gong Li (or Li Gong in English) as Hatsumomo in Memoirs of a Geisha, so you already know that she is stunningly beautiful, but did you know she's old enough to be my mother?!Curse of the Golden Flower, Hannibal Rising, Miami Vice & Memoirs of a Geisha.I can't believe she's already 41 years old. I hope I age that well when I turn 17 years and 288 months old.I first saw her in the film Raise of the Red Lantern when I was really young. At that time I didn't really appreciate the film because even as a child I loved opulent set designs and elaborate costumes (think Curse of the Golden Flower), yet when I watched it again in my late teens I realized what an amazing story Gong Li told through her character Songlian. If you enjoy foreign films then I do recommend you watch this one. It's gritty, raw and unforgettable.T...

The reason behind this was not only the extra boost of goodness I felt inside since I had just finished my detox but it was also the fact that I had lost 1.5kgs as well. Little did I know things of grease and sugar would come back to haunt me as soon as I got sick. But first let me ask you all a question. What type of person eats more than they normally do while they are bedridden with the flu?"That is absurd! Surely no type of mammal would!" My throat is so sore that I can barely speak with my normally chirpy tone of voice. Although I have to say that the huskiness is also kinda sexy. Now there are a lot of people who worship the styles of the Olsen Twins, Mischa Barton, Kate Moss and Nicole Richie, just to name a few. These girls have become such popular icons that there are equally many people who criticize their style, saying it's contrived and boring. I can't find myself fitting in neither category, since I don't think they're iconic, but then half the time I'm saving their photos on my computer as inspiration for ...

School Girl Want Super Cute
2007-07-25 17:05:00
I was flipping through some of my old Japanese teen magazines (S Cawaii, Vivi & Pinky etc.) when I broad smile crept up upon my face. I thought about all the times during high school (in Sydney) when I looked up to the cute models in these magazines thinking that they were incredibly well dressed and unbelievably pretty. But years have passed since then and while I still think they're extremely attractive girls, I wouldn't really want to dress like them anymore. The mainstream Japanese fashion seen in these magazines no long capture my interest, while their subculture of gothic, punk and lolita stimulates my visual senses to an incredible degree. I then pulled out a few issues of Zipper, Kera and Nylon and allowed myself to dissolve in such eye candy. It's not about every day clothes anymore, it's all about costume now.Reading these magazines however, made me miss Japan. My friend Joanna's 19th party coincided with the release of Harry Potter 's 7th book. I feel kind of sad the the journey with Harry is over. No, I haven't read the book yet, but I pre-ordered it several months ago and my sister is picking it up today. I think I'll cry when I read the last page. Like my previous post Date Wear I browsing through shopbop, eluxury and bluefly to take a look at all the sale items but as usual I ended up in the non-sale section getting increasingly agitated that I couldn't afford most of the items. So instead I cut and pasted a few pieces together to create outfits without the use of my favorite color (for clothes), black. It was quite a challenge for me I must admit. I had to continually remind myself that I couldn't use "this cute skirt" because it was black. I should apply this kind of thinking for when I'm dressing myself in real life. When I woke up this afternoon morning I went downstairs to eat afternoon tea breakfast and realized that drops of scarlet red liquid had fallen onto my tracksuit top. I gasped before fully grasping what was happening and ran to the bathroom where I allowed my nose to freely run in the sink.Ah yes, it was a beautiful sight...
