Benefit Foundation Brush
2007-12-22 20:43:00
I really like this foundation brush. It's easy to use and easy to clean. I like the bristles too. The bristles are made of synthetic taklon, birch wood handle. I prefer this over Sephora's foundation brush. Their brush doesn't seem to be as sturdy and good quality. Plus its more expensive. If you take care of this brush well then it will last a long time. Definitely a great blush for blending.

Benefit Benetint blush
2007-12-22 20:40:00
I didn't know what to expect from this product. The packing was pretty cool though. It looks like a nail polish bottle. I tried this on my cheeks and I mixed it with Benefit 's High Beam. Just a few dabs of each product and I blended it into my cheeks. It gives you a nice natural rosy glow on the cheeks. It's a pretty cool cheek/lip stain. I think for the price its worth it because its a 2 in 1! You get a lip and cheek stain. I like the fragrance of this product too. Smells like rose water. This bottle will definitely last a long time because you only need a small amount each application. Definitely worth the money. I like it that is long wear. I'll go to work all day with this on and even go out at night and I don't need to reapply. Highly recommended.

Add Another Layer For Less
2007-12-22 03:03:00
Not sure about where you live, but here on the east coast it is certainly time to bundle up. These days, you'll typically find me in a tank, under a t-shirt, under a long sleeve shirt, under a sweater. For some reason they keep my office freezing cold, like refrigerator. No need to shed any layers there. However, if I go to a mall or free standing boutique...those are typically over-heated and too hot for my taste. What is tough about this situation is that usually most of these layering pieces run from around thirty to fifty dollars a pop. How can I afford to be stylish, warm and not break the bank? The answer is simple ? The Gap. If you haven?t been in a Gap store in awhile (and to be honest, neither have I) you will be pleasantly surprised. I spied an adorable cable knit sweater dress ?which I am still thinking about snapping up. Anyway, I got sidetracked there to avoid that, do the following. Once you enter one of these stores (or check out the website) and head straight for th...

Glitz and Glamour at Target
2007-12-18 01:35:00
I think we all know how great Target is. It's the place we can grocery shop, buy cute handbags, and find a gift for practically everyone we know. Target has surprised me in the last week and I'll tell you why. I know that Target has been getting increasingly trendy clothes that would even rival H&M but I would not have thought that Target would be the shop that I would find a sophisticated, very pretty, and well made dress that I needed for a posher than posh Christmas party for work. Isaac Mizrahi has an excellent collection of party dresses at Target which are mostly priced at 50 dollars...just 25 bucks more than what I paid for my Spanx pantyhose! One style of a dress came in black, a deep ruby red, navy blue, and a creamy brown. Some were slinky and others (like mine) made my waist look tiny and had a full skirt. I paired my sleeveless dress with a cute mini jacket from Xhiliration. That was a mere twenty dollars and I could easily wear it with several other outfits...

What Time Is It?
2007-12-17 03:45:00
Are you the type of person who is always on time? Or do you have the best intentions to arrive to an event early, but always end up late? Or, if you are like me, you try to schedule your arrival ?casually late? but miscalculate your commute or dress time?and end up at the party location with at least 30 minutes or more to spare? Whatever your deal is with your to-do-list or your party schedule, think of this. What better time of year than December/January (like, now) to splurge on an accessory that not only is a great compliment to your outfit but is practical as well. You can look down on your pretty little wrist and see a fabulous, unusual bling-ed out bracelet watch. This baby is finished with stainless steel so it isn?t one of those flimsy, wimpy party/evening watches. I personally think it is serious faux pas to wear your ?every day? timepiece to the ever present holiday parties/office parties that around this time of year. So, this particular watch is a great ?special? piece.....

A Reusable Bag with Some Sass
2007-12-16 23:22:00
With everyone trying to be more eco-friendly, reusable shopping bags are a great option for gals who want to recycle and make the world a better place. The problem? Most environmentally-safe bags are just plain ugly. Many of them are plain and just feature the shop's logo--not exactly cutting edge style. Luckily, About Attitude carries a sassy canvas bag that has the power to save the world and still be fashionable. The bag features two girls talking and one of them is angrily saying "Shop with a reusable bag, b*tch!". I'm pretty much in love with this bag. Using it shows that you care about the environment, but also that you don't take crap from anyone. If you're still a bit behind with your Christmas shopping (it's almost a week away!), this bag makes a great last-minute gift for a friend, sister, or anyone who has a sense of humor. Even give one to a friend who doesn't recycle! It might make her think twice before using a plastic bag. The measurements are 13.5" x 15",...

Frederic Fekkai Hi-Lights Hair Mascara
2007-12-16 06:49:00
Ever had a bad at-home highlights experience? Yeah?me too. Blonde at-home highlights seemed like a great idea for my very dark brown hair a couple of years ago. I anticipated golden blonde streaks delicately framing my face. What I got were sloppy patches of burnt orange hair in all the wrong places. I swore off bathroom highlight jobs for a long, long time, but when I saw Frederic Fekkai (the genius behind the glossing cream) came out with new ?Hi-Lights Hair Mascara ? my inner colorist was intrigued and I decided to give it a try. Commitment free and totally more affordable than monthly trips to the salon, this new product works just like it sounds. Apply gorgeous, luminous streaks with the easy-to-use wand for a special night out, or if you?re just bored and in the mood to test a new look. Just like a good mascara, Hi-Lights is not goopy and stays where you put it. Hi-Lights comes in two great colors ? Gold and Cognac (a gorgeous copper shade), both shimmery and flattering on most...
Yearning for Europe?
2007-12-12 03:44:00
My friend has talked about La Cucina di Donatella ever since she moved into Roger's Park, over a year ago. Finally, on a blustery winter night, I went. La Cucina di Donatella is a little slice of Italy on the edge of Roger's Park. Candles on tables, white table cloths, and a waiter with a thick Italian accent just adds sophistication to the restaurant which is on a dreary stretch of Howard Street. What I liked about the place was that it felt like a Europe an restaurant. Tables were close together and holds only 40 people or so. Dinner wasn't rushed. We ordered appetizers and were actually able to finish them and spend time talking before the entrees came out. The food is delicious and what you'd expect from an Italian restaurant. Lasagna, Linguine with Pesto sauce, and spaghetti, of course. There were though, some very interesting specials on the board which included stuffed pork chops and a variety of seafood dishes. I would highly recommend reservations. We got lucky...

BOOT-iful Boots
2007-12-11 19:43:00
This season to step out in style, pull on a new pair boots! Usually I try to keep wearing open-toed shoes for as long as socially acceptable (I even wore a pair last week when it was snowing). I know, I know, it's a fashion faux pas. The good news is, it's not too late to give boots a go. Every designer makes a great boot. There's always something out there for everybody. Color-wise, we're seeing a lot of your basic brown and black, but there are also some great rich jewel toned versions out there. Piperlime carries some great Pink Studio boots in a wine color. To pull off a bright shoe, just tone down the rest of your outfit. Boot s also come in different heel heights. From sky-scraper stiletto heels to flats, there's something for every foot. The flat boot is still very popular this season (just don't bust out your Uggs again). Neiman Marcus carries a great slouchy pair. As always, there are some fabulous boot buys that are affordable. Payless has a boot that I'm in l...
Accesorize For Less
2007-12-10 02:38:00
This is a great time of year to stock up on that purse, those shoes or that coat you've been lusting over. Why? Because there are a ton (I am talking about many, many, many) stores and websites that are slashing prices on the perfect compliment to your outfit. Let's start with the top, meaning keeping the head warm. Don?t you remember your mother always telling you to put a hat on? Do your mom proud and do it in style with a playful cap that is part newsboy, part beret. I found this baby on Bluefly.com-- a wool blend number by Helen Welsh. This hat is available in a brown, black or olive tweet. What a perfect way to top off your ensemble for forty bucks. The price is coincidentally forty percent off the usual price of the item. Next, let?s deal with covering that gorgeous neck. Or maybe you are still on the hunt for a gift for that aunt that has everything. How about cashmere scarf? Too expensive, you say? Bah humbug, I reply. A friend tipped me on to a website called smartbargain...

Essential Essence of India
2007-12-04 03:03:00
I wanted to go to Essence of India in trendy Lincoln Square for ages. So, finally, last Saturday night, I went. The dining room was completely full and I briefly thought of going someplace else. It was nearly eight thirty but the host told me that a table for two would be a wait of ten minutes. Not bad for a Saturday night without reservations. Ten minutes later, I was sitting, looking a menu that made my mouth water. The tables are huge in Essence of India. Even though I was in between two other tables, I felt that I had plenty of room and wasn't squashed. The waiter was very attentive and answered any questions that I had. The menu is separated into different 'essences' as in Vegetable, Tandoor, etc. I ordered the Chicken Karahi which was deliciously flavored with bell peppers, onion, and garlic. It was just spicy enough for me. My husband ordered the Murg Lajwab, which he thought, was very tasty but not spicy enough. So, if you want tears rolling down your face, th...

Mission: Party Dress
2007-12-03 02:17:00
December is here. You have probably already received (or will receive) a barrage of Holiday Party invites. You search your closet, and only find the little black dress you wore last year. Sigh. Have no fear! Head to Nordstrom (or Nordstrom.com). I was just at the Nordstrom near me solving my own festive dilemma. Nordstrom has dresses that fit any body type and budget. Juniors: If you can get away with shopping in the Junior?s department like one of my fit and fabulous girlfriends, you can really score a major deal. And, I may be just a tad jealous, but enough about me. My girlfriend found this adorable yet evening-ish jersey, v neck number for fifty bucks! It was made by a brand called Velvet Torch and comes not only in the dreaded basic black, but also beautiful jewel tones like a royal blue and a deep red. I bet you are wondering what I bought for my holiday festivities. Well, after picking up some shoes in Brass Plum (that is what Nordstrom?s Junior?s Department is called) we he...

Fab in 5 Minutes or Less
2007-12-01 23:57:00
On weekends, I usually spend a while on my makeup if I don?t have to rush off anywhere. During the week is another story. I like to sleep late, and even getting up at 7 is pushing it. If you?re like me, try these steps to get gorgeous pronto. 1) Your skin is most important, so first be sure to moisturize. Personally, I love Dove?s Sensitive Skin Day Cream. It?s not really a cream, it?s much thinner and you can apply makeup right over it. Next, apply your fave foundation. If you don?t have a favorite, try a mineral version?they?re great for sensitive skin and they cover redness very well. Apply with a brush and blend! 2) Next, add some color to your face. Take a light bronzer (don?t go too dark, unless you have naturally darker skin?otherwise you?ll look crazy and be orange in the wintertime). Apply where the sun naturally hits your face. A little goes a long way. To save time, also use the bronzer as eye shadow. Apply it from the lash line up to the crease of the lid. 3) La...

Georgie Designs
2007-11-28 01:37:00
What were you doing at six or seven years old? Putting dresses on Barbie? Combing My Little Pony?s colorful mane? Robyn Klauer, of Georgie Designs , was painting faces on rocks she picked up along the seashore and selling them to neighbors. By twelve she was selling puff painted Tee shirts to her older sister?s friends for twenty bucks a pop. In 1998, while living in San Diego, Robyn found a passion for the craft of beading. Perfecting her hobby through graduate school, marriage and working that nine to five, Robyn, like most of us, started a family. It was the desire to stay home with her baby girl, and her keen eye for design that led to the formulation of Georgie Designs. Georgie Designs is not just another ?stay at home mom?s? kitchen table attempt to make money. Robyn?s designs are unique, exquisitely beautiful and fabulously crafted. Made of only the finest materials, sterling silver, 14K gold fill, Swarovski pearls and semi-precious stones, the jewelry of Georgie Designs can s...

They are everywhere now, Ankle boots

Ankle boots are everywhere this season. They are easy to match and easy to go. But probably that's not the only reason that they are so popular. Ankle boots are more than a pump and less than long boots. They are thought to be looked good on supermodels only, but as a matter of fact, they are good with every shape of body, if they are with right style. So, do not afraid to challenge them. Black Friday (and Beyond) Deals!
2007-11-24 03:45:00
I was out today among the crazy, brave shoppers. And I also have been online searching my favorite fashion sites for the best deals. So, I will share what I found out among the masses and better yet, what you can buy with just a click of the mouse. First off, an adorable AND affordable sweater. Where? Why, Old Navy of course. $25 bucks will get you a shawl collared cotton number in your choice of cool colors like red, blue, brown or white. It can easily be paired with wool pants for work or dressed down with corduroys for the weekend. Get yours online or in the Old Navy store near you. Once you have something fuzzy for your bod, why don't you add a jaunty hat? I scored a funky Kangol beret for thirty bucks. Sure, it may only come in the white and brown version...but all the better to match with the Old Navy sweater in white or brown. See where this is going? And if you aren't a hat girl ( I personally think they look heinous on me) these are so great to gift. And I saved the best...

Post-Turkey Day Makeup (camouflaging the extra pounds!)
2007-11-23 19:01:00
I don't know about everyone else, but between Thanksgiving and Christmas I turn into an eating machine. My Grandma is constantly baking all sorts of festive goodies, and my coworkers are always bringing in tons of fattening snacks. How can you say no to a cookie shaped like Santa? Thankfully, there are a few ways to hide the extra weight on your face. First of all, make sure your foundation shade is correct. Since we all get naturally more pale in the Winter, your Summer foundation simply won't cut it. Take the time to go up to a makeup counter and try on a few different shades to find your perfect match. If it blends into your skin without an obvious line, you've found a match! Once you have a good base, you can create contour with blush. Since I am very fair skinned, I tend to use a rosy blush shade and a silvery-pink highlighter. Darker skinned gals can use more of a golden highlighter. With a brush, create the chiseling of your cheekbone. Find the correct spot to shade by s...

Doyle and Doyle
2007-11-19 21:20:00
I never thought I would get to review a jewelry store, other than Claire's or Cinderella Story, but my recent engagement seems to be paying off in more ways than one. My fiance went to a little store on Orchard Street called Doyle and Doyle. Run by two sisters, they have a simple goal of making jewelry shopping more egalitarian and stress-free. They carry "a rare mix of pieces from the Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Retro periods, alongside select contemporary designs." While the front showroom can be dazzling, the sisters have many, many "mountings" in the back: rings without the stones. They will then source the stones for you to make your very own special, custom ring. I love my engagement ring. It looks like an heirloom from generations back (in fact, the mounting is vintage) and its utterly unique and absolutely perfect. You can shop online and they had a lot of pieces for $500 or less. I know that the next time I have a big gift to buy for so...
Naimie's Beauty Center

By: Kris Marvin Hughes If you live in Los Angeles and have not yet been to Naimie?s you?re really missing out. This place is the Mecca for all things beauty and if you?re a member of SAG you get an additional 10% off of everything (score!). The first floor of the building is devoted entirely to wigs and accessories (hair dryers, curlers, etc) and the second floor is filled to the brim with heavy-hitters like M.A.C., Mario Badescu, Laura Mercier, Kiehls, L?Occitane, Stila just to name a few. They also stock many not-so-common brands like CoverFX which if you?ve never used them, they?re wonderful. I am always impressed by how clean and well-organized this store is and enjoy that they have testers for everything - you?re never left wondering if that cream shadow you bought is going to feel like glue on your eyelids when you get it home. Aside from the many make-up, nail and hair products, they cater to professional make-up artists and stylists with rows of specialized products (b...

Steve and Barry's
2007-11-12 19:25:00
Steve and Barry?s, the store you?ve never heard of, is one of the fastest growing retailers on the market right now. Growing at 70% a year, there?s a lot that goes into that success including savvy production strategies and zero advertising. What keeps bring me back time and again are the rock-bottom prices: jeans are $14.99, shirts $9.99, sweaters $19.99. In fact, nothing in the store costs more than $19.99, which radically undercuts both Wal-Mart and Target. Those of us living in Manhattan know there are plenty of stores in that price range, like Rainbow, that offer clothes that disintegrate on the first wash, if they make it that long. Steve and Barry?s clothes are high quality: you won?t find cashmere but sweaters are soft to the touch and survive laundry after laundry. Back to the ?no advertising?, I first searched for Steve and Barry?s because I saw an article about Sarah Jessica Parker?s line, Bitten. Most of the clothes at Steve and Barry?s are quite basic, in a nice way:...

The tights trend just won?t stop ? and I?m okay with that. Well, at least I am after seeing the expansive selection of American Apparel legwear. With everything from sporty stripes to loud lamé, we?re talking something for everyone and every mood! Go bold with the Opaque Two Color Pantyhose ($16) in dueling colors like teal and asphalt or even fluorescent yellow and coral. These are perfect for turning the little black dress into the ultimate party outfit. There is something a little cheeky and even a bit naughty about these thigh highs. You don?t need lace and a garter belt to be sexy! And what?s even better about this style, is that you don?t get that awkward line around your waist. Try them colorful with stripes ($15) at the top or in a simple solid ($39 for a 3-pack). She?s a maniac, maniac! Okay, so maybe you won?t be wearing these under an oversized sweatshirt with a side ponytail. More like with a long cashmere sweater and a beret? Just in time for Winter, the Baby Th...

Cupcakes? Pinkberry? Who needs them? There?s a new haute dessert in town that?s French, fabulous and will fit in the palm of your perfectly manicured hand. It?s called the macaron --not to be mistaken with the coconut confection, macaroon-- and is popping up at bakeries across Los Angeles. Paulette is the latest purveyor of this irresistible delicacy, but unlike many of its competitors, this quaint Beverly Hills patisserie only sells macarons. Upon entering the clean, sparse specialty patisserie on Charleville Blvd., patrons are immediately confronted with a glass case filled with row after row of the artistic, hand-made French pastries. Macarons are composed of two wafer-like cookies, traditionally made with eggs whites, almond powder and sugar, that are filled with a decadent ganache that is sure to delight any sweet tooth. Paulette?s flavors run the gamut from Caribbean chocolate to New Orleans praline to the popular peach offering that devoted followers liken to biting in...
