Bliss For Men: The 'Wild Beard' Shaving Set
2007-10-12 10:37:00 If your man's designer stubble leaves you with a rash, it's time to treat him to the new Bliss 'Wild Bear d ' shaving set - guaranteed to turn him from grizzly to gorgeous in two easy steps. The thermal shaving cream warms up on contact with skin to recreate that luxurious hot towel feeling you get from a professional shave and creates a friction-free glide to prevent irritation. The essential oils and aloe vera lift and soften hair for a really close shave, leaving him as smooth as silk. We?re not sure how it works, but it prevents five o?clock shadow too. The post-shave repair lotion - which is mercifully light and non-greasy - soothes the skin, reduces redness, and even prevents ingrown hairs. The ingredients are all natural so they leave the face feeling fresh and hydrated, and won't irritate even the most sensitive-skinned man in your life. Neither product smells like flowers or any other strong fragrance, so they won?t overpower his cologne or make him feel too much like a ... More About: Shaving

Luxurious GREEN Fashion at Skinstinct
2007-10-12 03:41:00 I'm all about eco-friendly lifestyle these days. However, I must admit that every now and again, I purchase a non-green product because it?s environmentally safe counter-part is exorbitantly priced. So, when Skinstinct--a green AND affordable boutique--opened mere steps from my flat, I was totally elated. Skinstinct?s philosophy is all about softness. They craft their products to feel extraordinarily gentle and cozy on human skin. So, how do they do this and still maintain moderate prices and eco-friendly policy? The secret is bamboo! Bamboo is described as nature?s cashmere, except it?s actually machine washable. What?s more, it grows softer with every wash. Plus, it?s hypoallergenic, antibacterial and 100% biodegradable. The antibacterial part is particularly noteworthy because it means you can wash the items less frequently. In addition to clothing, Skinstinct sells bamboo towels and robes. You really won?t believe how impossibly soft this material is until you check it out y... More About: Fashion , Green , Luxurious , Fash
Thread
2007-10-11 18:26:00 How many times have you been graced with the honor of bridesmaid? How many times have you gone to see what this atrocious ensemble adorning your body will be and think to yourself, is there any way I can not look like a clown at this formal event? I think we've all been there. When my mom got remarried and asked me to be in the wedding as her maid of honor, I was given the God awful privilege to wear a teal, taffeta, tee -length monstrosity accompanied with puffy sleeves. I was 24...you can only imagine my disgust as I sipped on champagne looking ridiculous. I think this has been a problem for a lot of women out there. You do want to look good at this event, although you don't want to upstage the bride. I found that Thread has some incredible choices in luring your bride-to-be in compromising to what the wedding party wears. The key is to individualize the wedding party. Wouldn't any bride want her girls to be who they are? Thread has some great cuts to fit all body ...
Pugh, Peopletree and Prince at London Fashion Week
2007-10-08 11:17:00 Everyone has been talking about London Fashion Week , which took place on 15-20 September. Prince performed at Mathew Williamson's show to celebrate ten years of designing. Stella McCartney made her London Fashion Week debut with a collection for Adidas. Her tennis whites outfit was sporty and cute - reason enough to pick up a racket! You can see it here. http://www.londonfashionweek.co.uk/design ers_catwalk.asp?designerid=371&... Gareth Pugh stunned the audience by dressing models with masks and boxes on their heads. http://www.vogue.co.uk/shows/Reports/Defa ult.aspx?stID=38726# Amongst the many booths, one that stood out was People Tree. A tonic for the more extreme and 'out there' expressions at Fashion Week, the designs were comfortable, elegant and made for real women. Best of all, the ethical company practices fair trade, buying from fabric producers and artisans all over the world, and giving them a fair price. Peopletree's organic cotton clothes are so soft! http://www...
Timeless accessory brand goes downtown!
2007-10-08 05:14:00 Whether you can afford it or not, every girl (at least secretly) wants a Coach bag. It's classic and stylish, and now its loyal shoppers no longer have to look far in Toronto for the famous brand. This summer Coach opened a new shop on the third floor of Eaton Centre. Even from far away you can't miss its signature emblem. The latest season's Bleecker line, with its trendy oval buckles and shiny leather, sits temptingly by the shop window. You can't help but ogle. You want touch it, strap it on your shoulder. You want to bring it home, so you step inside, just for a look. And $398 later, you can't live without your brand spanking new duffle. But it's Coach and it's going to last a while and it's going to go with every outfit, or so you convince yourself. Personally I think Coach makes a great little accessory. It's got a wider variety of styles, is more affordable, and its designs are a lot more chic than the more expensive brands like Louis Vuitton. So girls,... Marlow?s boasts free covered parking, which is a coveted asset among the Midtown bar scene. Shake the Tree
2007-10-05 06:57:00 Really awesome little store in Boston's North End neighborhood, which we recently discovered attending one of their monthly design parties! The area is known for its Italian food and it is fun to see new little stores popping up here and there. Shake the Tree carries everything from great clothing to gifts to handbags, body products, baby stuff and home accents. The style is very unique and much of the jewelry is by local jewelers! Fun/reasonable prices and nice girls working there!
English
2007-10-03 23:58:00 If you are one of those people who think English and Irish are the same thing, you'd be shocked at the differences between your Lincoln Park-frat-boy-Irish-pub and English, located at 444 North La Salle Street . C'mon-here, you'd find a WAY more mature crowd at least 1 whole year out of college? The smorgasbord of appetizers we ordered was my favorite part of the meal because, as Mom always said: there's no way those little pieces can fit any calories in 'em. And that's probably the only rule of hers I ever followed. The English Fries tossed with sea salt and parsley and served with a side of curry sauce and the English Crisps - waffle fries topped with smoked cheddar, braised shredded pork, scallions, red cabbage and sour cream- were my favs, obviously, because I'm a total sucker for any form of fried potato that lends to dipping. The Warm Bacon Spinach- Artichoke and Goat Cheese Dip served with a toasted baguette is not your ordinary spartichoke appy. The Goat cheese bite ...
HeelStraps
2007-10-03 22:35:00 Enter the MULE. No, not the male Donkey, but the svelte design for a woman?s shoe that creates unbelievable definition in calves and, well simply, just looks damn hot. Like most things regarding beauty, there is a danger, pitfall or pain that mule shoes bring with them. Often clinking against one another, hitting ankles and sliding off feet, mules may not be the best choice to go out for a night on the town, right? Wrong! If you?re ready to throw those Jimmy Choos in the closest for the rest of the season, you better check out Heel Straps. HeelStrap's one-size-fits-all design works with just about any strapless bridal shoes, high heels, mules or your favorite slip-ons (according to its Web site www.heelstraps.com). They are virtually invisible when you want them to be or blend perfect with any color shoe to alter style from mule to back-slings. The Heel Straps are small enough to put in your purse so that when nighttime rolls around and you want to go dancing, you can secure your s... More About: Eels

Chic GREEN Grocery Bag
2007-10-02 02:35:00 Recently, I've noticed that Chicago shoppers often bring their own bags to the super-market. Most health and organic food stores have been selling cloth bags for earth-conscious consumers for years, but the trend didn't seem to catch until now. Perhaps it's the surge in GREEN marketing that's sparked the appeal of re-usable bags. Whatever the reason, a recent trip to Whole Foods left me coveting a re-usable grocery bag of my own. Admittedly, my desire stemmed from seeing multiple bags that sported eclectic patterns and textures. I spotted a woman in the produce isle with a leopard print bag and another amidst the canned goods with a bag that donned a baroque-looking pattern in black raised velvet. Who knew being environmentally conscious could be so chic? As far as I'm concerned, the positive effects using these bags has on the earth makes spending a few extra bucks on one very excusable. When perusing online, I found the greatest selection at: http://www.delight.com. Delight ... More About: Green , Grocery
Make Art Not War by Yezenia Herrera
2007-10-01 07:59:00 In the city of San Francisco, supporting the Arts is as common as the foggy weather. Murals can be seen on the side of buildings and exhibits bring in an array of fascinating paintings, sculptures, and modern pieces. But, as amazing as these murals and exhibits are, unfortunately we just don?t find the time to get there. On a Friday night when you are debating what to do with your friends, visiting an art galley is the last place you want to be. Or maybe not? At 111 Minna you will find yourself in a trendy bar amidst the eccentric and urban crowd. 111 is hidden in an alley of San Francisco patiently awaiting your arrival. But once you?re in (usually after a $5 dollar cover charge), you experience the beauty of art and the feel of a slightly industrial setting. The street gallery is divided by two rooms yet both fully equipped with a DJ and bar. The music played depends on the night, but on Wednesdays, except to listen to some good house music. Oh, and the drinks there are more tha... More About: Make , Herrera
The Globe Pub: An International Bar
2007-10-01 05:01:00 The Globe Pub is a bar men love. Especially foreign men. My husband is Australian and he likes to go to the Globe because they consistently show sports events that Australia participates in. It reminds me of an English pub, dark with a wooden interior. There are two sections of the pub, which is great on a crowded Saturday night. There?s a lot of people minus the cramped space. The G lobe Pub offers a variety of events throughout the week in addition from a sports schedule that involves rugby, soccer, and American sport as well like the NFL. Mondays are reserved for Comedy Open Mic, which I haven?t gotten to witness just yet but am very curious about. Tuesdays are Quiz nights. I went a few weeks ago and it was loads of fun. The categories are obscure and quite difficult, but it was a laugh when my team were scrambling to answer some of the strangest questions we?ve ever heard. And we didn?t come in last! Wednesdays are Acoustic open mic and Fridays are for a Retro DJ. The Glo... More About: International
Republic Pan-Asia Restaurant & Lounge
2007-10-01 01:18:00 Whenever my boss is away on business, I like to take advantage of the small workload and lax office hours to get some clients out for a trendy meal and chat about the industry (clarification: by "clients" I mean my counterpart at work and the office assistant, and by "the industry" I mean Britney Spear's latest blunder and the steamy conversation I had with my office building crush). Republic Pan-Asia Restaurant & Lounge had been on my radar since it opened beneath the Four Points Sheraton at the corner of Rush and Ontario St and I made the executive decision to finally try it out. We began with the Edamame, which the menu claims is the "Best in the City!" When I asked our waiter what makes it so unique, he was completely confused. When I pointed out the menu's proud declaration he stared blankly, a look that became eerily familiar over the course of the meal. Nevertheless, the averagely good Edamame seemed to be the highlight of our experience. After the waiter forgot my...
New 24 Hour Mascara
2007-09-29 21:17:00 Long-lasting! Flake free! Clump free! No smudge! Sweat proof! Tear proof! When it comes to mascara, we?ve both heard it all before and tried a million. From drugstore to cosmetic counter, we?ve all searched for the perfect mascara that actually lives up to its promises. Luckily, Prescriptives has just introduced the first 24 hour mascara on the market. Let?s face it - sometimes the 8 hr workday can turn into 12, followed by Pilates, a dinner date and then catching up on a tivo-ed ?Grey?s Anatomy?. 8 hour lasting mascara doesn?t cut it anymore, so why are we still using it? ?Here to Stay 24 Hour Mascara ? goes above and beyond expectations. It does not budge until you remove it, lasting through the shower, sweaty workout and even through the night. This mascara was made for customization: it can be worn alone for water-proof protection or can be layered with other Prescriptives mascaras for maximum water resistance. This customization offers the option to turn a sweet natural day lo...
Motley Shoe Shop
2007-09-29 21:09:00 By now you?ve all heard of Bodega, the so-hip-it-hurts sneaker haven masquerading as a run down convenience shop, tucked away behind the Christian Science Center, off Mass Ave. It?s a place where sneak freaks collude behind tins of sardines and boxes of Tide. Cool, but not exactly fashionista friendly. Doug Palardy, of Motley fame, (he?s got the t-shirt cum gift shop as well as the home store on Tremont), has conceived of a more straightforward solution to supplying fans of athletic footwear the most coveted styles. In mid-October he plans to open the doors of Motley Shoe Shop on Dartmouth Street in the South End. The space will be an ode to the green movement, with a totally recycled build-out that includes railroad tie shelving, reclaimed wood from the rickety, old dive bar, Waltham Tavern (he and his pals rescued the floor boards from a Dumpster one night last week), and a (faux?) deer antler chandelier. The goods, however, are modern to the max. (Hey, ?80s styles calls for ?80s ... More About: Converse
Simply Vera: Simply Chic
2007-09-28 21:09:00 I know that there have been a couple of blogs about Vera Wang?s collection of chic, designer goods for less at Kohls, but I was just so pleased with the collection that I have to write about it myself! I needed something business casual but very sophisticated for a job interview. Thankfully, the Simply Vera collection had just opened at Kohls, the same week I was looking. The best part was, that not only did I have an array of cute, well made, fantastic clothes, but Kohls was already having a 30% off sale! I was able to purchase the very pretty pleated skirt with well hidden pockets in black ( and I bought the one in gray too!) For only $43.99 each. The other great thing about Simply Vera is that the clothes are made with wonderful fabrics that will last. The other thing that I loved about this collection was that the sizing was great. I thought that because it was designer, the sizes were going to be a bit smaller. I was very pleased. Starting in October, Simply Vera is de...
YSL and the City
2007-09-28 20:48:00 I'm dreaming in black and white. Yves Saint Laurent 's ivory shantung toile de laine tuxedo jacket is smoking! The word on the street is that this gorgeous jacket will make an appearance on Carrie Bradshaw in the upcoming Sex and the City movie. News of the fab four spotted filming in different locales around the city was reported yesterday in the New York Post, along with this Patricia Field-selected number. At $2570, its a little too luxe for my clothing budget, but I can fantastize, can't I??Michelle Zaffino
Jilliana TOKYO
2007-09-26 22:17:00 This new boutique is truly a hidden jewel in Laguna Beach , CA. There are so many boutiques in Orange County with so many look-a-like fashion clothing, but this boutique carries very unique items from Japanese fashion. Their theme is ?cute & sexy?, providing ?Princess? look to girls targeted from teens to 20s/30s adult. Indeed, their tops and dresses are very cute and makes you want to stop and look. They carry top brands from Shibuya and Harajuku where the most popular fashion trends are created in Japan. Prices are very reasonable compared to the other high end fashion boutique in the area, ranging from $30 to $60. This boutique is hard to notice because it is hidden inside the shopping mall, away from the main road. And the store is very small, with second room in the back. But if you are looking for something new, cute & sexy, this boutique is worth visiting. More About: Tokyo
New Cocoa Butter Line from Vaseline
2007-09-26 04:43:00 With October coming up next week and my summer tan fading faster than I can type, I?m busy prepping my product drawer with great moisturizers to beat dry winter skin. It?s still a little early but I found a great product that I may need to incorporate into my yearly skin care routine. Remember the craziness surrounding the release of Jergens ?Natural Glow? self-tanning lotion? It was sold out of stores for weeks! It looks as though Vaseline ?s new ?Cocoa Butter ? line will be the new drugstore ?It? products of the fall. (I had to try 3 CVS locations before tracking down the products!) My favorite in the line is the ?Vitalizing Body Gel Oil.? I love the effects of body oils, but I hate the mess and the long drying time. This new product changes all of that ? the gel stays in place on your skin without running but has the same great moisturizing power of any oil. The nutty scent is also amazing but subtle - unlike some competitor lotions that leave you smelling like a Pina Colada all da... More About: Line
Lather
2007-09-25 17:38:00 It's almost shopping season again, and I tell you what. There is nowhere, I mean nowhere, that you will find the fresh, natural beauty you can buy at Lather. This is one of those companies that does not try to be natural and fresh, it simply is. Everything is beautiful - from their product to their simple packaging to the scent of the candles burning in the store. Lather is a natural beauty store located in Pasadena. I have to list it as a new find, because, although it's been open for a few years, almost nobody in the greater LA area knows about it. And trust me, you need to know what you've been missing. Lather offers skin care that's light, fluffy and amazingly aromatic. Sweet almond exfoliating cream, ginger wasabi hand lotion and a yuzu (yes, the fruit from Japan that is so sweet and delicate) product called Renew. All of their creams, lotions and washes are so light and refreshing that you'll feel like you're wearing nothing but the air. Ahhh... And as for their aromathe...
Cuba in San Francisco by Yezenia Herrera
2007-09-23 22:07:00 In this dynamic city of San Franc isco , there are hundreds of remarkable restaurants, cafes, and bars to choose from. However, for those who live here, finding these places could be at times strenuous and time consuming. Yet, for visitors and foreigners, the search could be down right impossible. Well, this is where I come along. As a resident of San Francisco for more than three years now, and an addict of caffeine, I have gone to the worst coffee bar known to man as well as the most prestigious café San Francisco has to offer. But over the months, I have found a café that because of its soothing atmosphere and delicious coffee, continually makes me return. Café Lo Cuba no is located in the heart of Laurel Heights and sits on the top of the hill awaiting avid coffee drinkers, bookworms, or computer junkies. But this café is unlike all others for the ambiance mimics the feel of Pre- Castro Cuba. Their menu includes a variety of hot pressed Cuban sandwiches and bold Cuban coffee, i... More About: Herrera
Via Carducci La Sorella
2007-09-23 02:28:00 Amid the dive bars and high-end boutiques lining Wicker Park's Division Street, this inviting Italian eatery had intrigued me since day numero uno. Via Carducci La Sorella, similar in menu to the sister spot on Fullerton, was the first conquest on my list to becoming Wicker Park's most prestigious restaurant & food critic. Joined by my posse (my mom and sister) and completely disguised as your ordinary sorority girl-gone-Chicago (not such a stretch) I don't think our waiter knew that his Italian hospitality would play such a role in my love affair with this under-rated charmer. After waiting only 15 minutes for outdoor seating on a Saturday night (didn't think it was possible, didja?), I was in great spirits and ready to try the Southern Italian deliciousness I'd heard so much about. Our attentive server made sure that we received the most authentic experience and his adorable Italian accent didn't hurt one bit either. To start, the Pomodori E Cipolla Salad with sweet re...
