From Bergdorf's New Fall Missoni Collection:
2007-06-29 17:49:00
A glimpse of Missoni 's pre-Fall collection, new at Berg dorf Goodman. I actually tried this Ribbed Dress (at left) in Montreal last month (they pulled it from the 'special' back room as it had just arrived) and loved it. Now I have to admit, I am not yet a Missoni girl, I've always been a little scared of too much pattern and color...I know, I know, I'm so 'boring New York clad in black girl', but its true. So when I tried this dress it was a happy medium, dabbling in a little Missoni without all the color. Now some might argue, 'whats the point then'?, but even without the color you still get that wonderful Missoni fabric weave and delicate blend of silk and wool to pull off a beautiful shape and hang to the dress. Soooo for those of you that have not yet forayed into the world of Missoni, I would suggest this dress as a nice stepping-stone. I've heard like Louis Vuitton's it becomes an addiction! And hey there are far worse addictions than buying valuable, collectible, h...

Cool Opening Tonight at Clarabella on the LES!
2007-06-28 19:16:00
BUILDINGS by SHAUN KARDINAL New to the Lower East Side art scene, boutique/gallery CLARABELLA is pleased to present BUILDINGS, the inaugural New York City exhibit from Seattle based photographer, Shaun Kardinal. Photographing rooftops has been a hobby of the artist's for many years. Though an avid digital artist in his teens, it was not until his twenty-third year with an antique medium-format camera in hand that Kardinal developed an absolute passion for the subject. It was the way the buildings looked as he gazed through the viewfinder, playing with the vibrancy of Seattle's sunsets, the richness of her summers, the austere dullness of her grey winters. It was a love affair with a new city encouraging familiarity, ushering these monoliths in as kin, good friends, integral parts of Kardinal's daily walks to and from work. In this way, his photographs are meant to be seen as intimate portraits. These buildings, at once solitary and full of life, seem to play with and against ea...

Two Greats in One Week: The Loss of Designers Liz Claiborne and Gianfranco
2007-06-27 22:50:00
After the devastating news last week of Ferre's death now Liz Claiborne. It is always sad when an iconic 'Great' passes away.I adore Gianfranco Ferre's clothes and collect any vintage pieces I find.Liz Claiborne in addition to being an inspiration for her pioneering work in fashion as a women in the 50's, 60's, 70's and onward was also later in her life an inspiration in 'doing good for the world' with your success. Claiborne and her husband retired from active management of the company in 1989 in order to pursue environmental and charity work. The Liz Claiborne and Art Ortenberg Foundation was established in 1989 to provide support for protection of the wilderness.

FYI: 'The Row' is Now Available Online
2007-06-15 21:14:00
Continuing to continue on in the hoopla surrounding celebrity fashion lines, wanted to let you know that MK and Ashley's line "The Row" is now available online from the always cutting-edge chic British establishment Browns. Previously the line was available only at Barneys NYC and Maxfields in LA.If you live in NYC and haven't checked out the collection in person yet, do! It is a wonderful line, with great basics to build into your wardrobe. The pieces are a bit pricey so beware, but they are definitely quality items worth investing in. Selma Blair is already a fan and we all know she is the queen of cool when it comes to style!Oh, and for the more budget conscious cats they have a new lower price-bracket line set to launch this fall aptly named Elizabeth and James (after their other lesser known sibs). That line will be available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Intermix. One of their awe-inspiring T's that are being praised for their couture style cling and unbelievable d...

Celebrity Fashion Lines: The Demise of the 'Real' Designer?
2007-06-08 03:48:00
The 'celebrity perfume' phenom seems like its been around for ages, but the recent furious increase in 'celebrity fashion lines' (think SJP, the Olsen Twins, JLo, Kate Moss , Madonna , Kylie Minogue....Oy it gets tiring just typing the masses in) has some critics questioning where this leaves the 'real designers'?The NY Times featured the topic in today's Style section, check it out!Thoughts?? Much as I love MK and Ashley (and the new 'Row' line), I gotta admit that the whole thing (more-so the Madonna/Kate Moss/H&M/Topshop bit) does seem like a bit of a celebrity wash. Some lines appear solid like 'The Row', others seem just lame, such as SJP's 'Bitten'. The fact that celebrities have so much more financial capital to build upon and the tails of their success, seems to give an unfair advantage in an extremely cut-throat and competitive arena. Is fashion going the way of pop music? Are we selling out in some way? How much of a free-market approach is 'too-much' when it...

Sex and the City: Wardrobe Secrets Revealed!
2007-06-05 01:43:00
OK, um maybe I've been in a closet somewhere, but when I stumbled upon this resource for a complete break-down of every outift worn on SATC, I was totally excited (and surprised). What a great idea, and I know several of you that have seen every episode like 10 times who may not even have to re-watch to know which outfits these are (you know who you are.....).Outfits are broken down to the last detail. Select a season, then an episode and then voila, each outfit as worn in each scene is described in detail, with color and designer!Cool!

Georgia Rule? Well...Lindsay Lohans wardrobe certainly rocks!
2007-06-01 06:58:00
P.S.I watched Georgia Rule today. What else to do in the Montreal rain? (Have I mentioned its been raining ALL week?) Anyway: unlike some who have dissed LaLohan and the movie, I loved it. Besides Lindsay 's wonderfully covetable wardrobe (amazing skinny jeans, flow-y white tops, great wedges, to die-for sunglasses, etc)...I was drooling half the movie...I think it was a good performance....and a good movie. I really enjoyed it. Judge for yourself. The perfect opportunity? Well, the 93 degree weather I left behind in NYC or the cold dreary rain of Montreal!Escape to the movies. Covet Lindsay's clothes.

She hugs her friend, takes off her Jackie O sunglasses and settles into a tiny chair next to glamorous "Sex and the City" author Candace Bushnell. The scene could be straight out of Shields' everyday life but the digital clapperboard, booms and bustling TV crew a few feet away reveal it's actually the star's latest acting gig. 'Gossip Girl' is coming to the small screen!
2007-05-19 21:05:00
Cool. Another fun girly TV series set to premiere in the Fall. Now I haven't read all of the books in the Gossip Girl s Series, but what I have read are deliciously delightful. The series revolves around an exclusive group of teenagers going to private school on NYC's Upper East Side. This could be a new contender for 'must-see TV', and god knows we need that. Right? From Publishers Weekly:"Cecily von Ziegesar?s Gossip Girl series (Little, Brown) first hit the YA book scene in 2001, touted as fun chick lit for the younger set?Sex and the City for teens. Readers were soon clamoring for the novels in which anonymous gossip columnist/narrator Gossip Girl, aka GG, follows the living-large exploits of wealthy teenage Manhattanite Blair Waldorf and her friends." From E!:"The series is being billed as the heir-apparent to The O.C. (back when it was worth watching) and with good reason: It was created by Josh Schwartz, the mastermind of the soapy, since departed Fox drama. Gossip Girl st...

La Vie en Rose....What an Amazing Film!
2007-05-18 18:50:00
Amongst other events last night, I attended a special showing (thank you lovely Jennifer Levy Niederhoffer of Impress Media) of La Vie en Rose , a soon to be released film. It was absolutely wonderful. I love Edith Paif's voice, her songs are usually the soundtrack to my Sunday morning brunch-making at home. Despite my love for her voice though, I knew very little of her life. What a poignant and amazingly produced film this was, really touching on the human character.... A synopsis: "The ferocious talent and indomitable spirit of legendary chanteuse Edith Piaf is celebrated in this French feast of a biopic, featuring a stunning performance by Marion Cotillard as the "little sparrow" who lived, loved and sang with no regrets. A huge hit in France and winner of five Césars, La Vie en Rose arrives on these shores with its uniquely Gallic blend of onstage triumph, backstage tragedy and tempestuous melodrama intact. Skillfully sifting time periods, far-flung locales and extremes of moo...

Kate Moss for Topshop 'Pansy Dress' in Da House.
2007-05-17 23:05:00
FYI girls:Stopped by Barneys Coop this Afternoon for like 2 seconds and saw that there was a little replenishment of the KM for TS collection. The dress I did not snag but wanted, the famed "Pansy Dress " is present!!! There are a few size 6's, an 8 and a 10, they ring in at 120$,. Tried the dress on, and surprisingly its really lovely, cut very flatteringly. These additions to stock were shipped in from other Barneys across the US where they did not sell. Get 'em while you can! Literally there were only five there, and they will probably be gone by tomorrow.OK--have to run. Event uptown in like 3 seconds, madly dashing about trying to get ready.Ta, BG

Cynthia Rowley's new collection at Bergdorf Goodman, I approve!
2007-05-15 19:18:00
In the past I have been a little afraid of Cynthia Rowley's clothes, for me they were a little girly, too frilly, feminine and light....but this new collection, exclusively online at Bergdorf Good man is amazing, it has just enough hard edge to please me!!! Great contrast between feminine cuts and drape and definitive lines, which serves the purpose of hardening the softness. My favourites below. Enjoy!Beaded silk dress. The silk fabric line inlay seems to be a repeated affair in several of the collection pieces. I like the way it creates a theme, unifying a vision.Sweatshirt dress. Metallic Silk Dress. Sleeveless Banded Dress.I love this dress, and once again the wonderful use of fabric inlay really tempers what could be a very soft look giving it a much more balanced feel. I love, love, love her use of these solid stripes throughout the collection. Such a cool unifying theme.See the full collection here.

Lipstick Jungle: Our Answer to the Gap Left by Sex and the City?
2007-05-15 01:12:00
So, I've been hearing news as of late that Brooke Shields is to star in a TV series adaptation of the book 'Lipstick Jungle' by Candace Bushnell. This is one of the few shows I have been excited about in a long time. I love SATC and still watch it religiously in lieu of anything decent having been created to replace it. So I wonder, will this live up to the inevitable hype of having not only a similar-ish plot to SATC but the obvious "its also written by Candace Bushnell" fact. The show is bound to have enormous pressure on it to live up to our expectations. I can only hope it does!Info surrounding the series seems to be hazy...but it is set to release for the fall line-up and those that have seen the pilot seem to have good things to say. I read the book last year and I remember thinking it was pretty entertaining. In contrast with SATC, LJ focused more on job success and making it as woman in the work world while still maintaining family and relationship success, the characters...

A Week in Belts: The Olsen Twins
2007-05-11 07:59:00
This week in LA and NYC, The Olsen's working the belt. Love that little skirt that Ashley is wearing, similar look to the skirt she was rocking a few weeks ago. In fact, maybe it is the same one...that would be very Ashley! For some great wide statement belts see the post I did earlier in the year. And if your feeling thrifty check out this belt from Forever 21, its very similar to one I got in London last year from Topshop, which has turned out to be indispensable (I throw it onto dresses, shirts, whatever, totally takes the outfit to a new level). And at a $5.80 price-point, how can you go wrong?
