Style Review: Miss Simpson and the Olsens
2007-04-06 20:02:00 Nay:Ugh, please stop with the mish-mashed together sloppy look, and please, please STOP with the weird long skirts. Its just yuck. Personally I usually love both 'rag-tag' Olsen style and the Jessica Simp son 'sexylook', but these recent departures are just a big NO in my book. At least in both cases there is a beautiful bag for some redeeming value.JS down under last week w/ boy-toy John Mayer.Ashley shopping at Maxfield's in West Hollywood yesterday.Yay.How we like to see our stars...well-dressed and inspirational.Ashley house-hunting in Beverley Hills Thursday. 2007-04-05 17:10:00 Leaving a photo shoot in NYC Tuesday. Ahhh, that bag, I love it so much, I can't take it!! The Jacket is very cool too. Like the drape. Speaking of, was in Burberry yesterday to get my trench repaired and couldn't help but try on some of the new pieces. OMG, there is the most beautiful new 'casual' trench that just came in (in some ways similar to the one above, though more tailored). I LOVE it, its very fresh, young and modern. Called the 'Richelle', comes in khaki and black, though I prefer the Khaki because you can see the detailing more effectively. Unfortunately I can't find a picture anywhere, maybe because its so new? It has almost a bubble shape to it, with a drawstring around the hem, so you can really play with the shape, the sleeves have stitching at the elbows that forms to the arm to really flatter and elongate that arm and the pockets have a wonderful ruched stitching making them very feminine and girly. David Bailey Photographic Book on Brit Supermodel Jean Shrimpton to Come Ou
2007-04-04 04:28:00 Coming out in April is a compilation of photographs David Bailey, one of England's most famous photographers, and arguably one of the worlds most famous commercial photographers shot of Jean Shrimpton. The photos were shot in January of 1962 in New York City by David who was at the time her lover (their love affair would span four years). NY JS DB 62, due out in late April was Bailey's first time in New York and at the time he was just starting his career as a successful photographer at British Vogue.The idea behind the shoot was 'au natural', Bailey didn't want this to be a big 'to do', more of a 'girl on the street' take on things. It was a bitterly cold day and Shrimpton is photographed throughout carrying a teddy bear. Organically shot around NYC in freezing weather, she did her own hair and styling to further add to the authenticity. True, we have so many more opportunities now, but is it even harder to succeed? I remember feeling immense pressure to have stellar grades and look amazing in High School. Sporting a decidedly different look than that as of late (for the record though, she has worn these pants earlier in the year, see photo below). Trouser pants are in. They have been on the radar since last spring, but I have not seen many sporting the look. They were seen all over the runway. High er waists and wider legs. I love this look (tho I still love skinny jeans) and it definitely gives a more equal opportunity wearing option for all body types. Definitely more forgiving. I recently got a beautiful pair of vintage French wool trousers in Maroon. I love the trouser look. Great Vintage Store on the Lower East Side: "Don the Verb"

Yanina who runs the shop has a great selection of streamlined pieces, all carefully picked to represent a superb offering of sharp tailoring and impeccable taste. She has a wonderful collection of vintage French hair bows, stunning bags and great coat collection among other items. For those in the trade, there is also an archive of rare and exciting vintage French couture, 80's London street fashion and more for shoots and the like. Things that are absent: me watching "The Hills" and my Morabito
2007-03-27 04:45:00 So, went all the way uptown to Artbag to pick up my Morabito, and it's not ready yet....whah. Annoy-ing, esp since they said it was ready. Anyway pictures on Weds, when I'm going back to pick it up (for real, cross my fingers). Saw some adorable vintage Chanel earrings at Encore...had to stop myself, if I'm still thinking about them in two days we'll see. Apparently Jackie O, used to shop there...Got home late and ended up missing 'The Hills ". Fill me in, not sure if I can wait til the re-run.Still thinking about the earrings. They were clear Lucite with a black background and tiny pearls and double C's embedded within. They were likely from the 50's but interestingly had the look of recent collections I've seen, especially with the use of the Lucite. Very modern. Oh dear, this whole Chanel jewelry thing is getting out of hand. 2007-03-23 19:16:00 Every time I see a photo of either of the Olsen twins I am so inspired. I just adore their style. I love the textures, the use of lots of black, a hint of color (in the red bottom of a Christian Louboutin or red nails), bits of fur and the most beautiful bags. The bag that MK has been carrying lately is SO awesome (see the two pics above and below) and it reminds me of my Morabito....(which btw is ready to be picked up from Artbag....I'm SO excited) so classic, will last forever and just timeless in that old Hollywood glamour way. I will post a pic of my Morabito next week.Anyway, thought I'd post a whack of Olsen inspiration as the weather is FINALLY warming (well a bit, at least here on the East Coast) and we can trade our bulky layers for soft flow-y layers and dress how we'd like instead of how we must in order to deal with the weather.
