Jai Hind : A tribute to Indians
2007-04-11 06:27:00
This design is a tribute to my motherland “India ” and to all my brothers and sisters who live here. India is the largest democracy in the world with 1 billion people living in India. It’s unique in its unity among diversity. India has a rich heritage of oneness for centuries. People of different religion like Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and many more and belonging to different regions of the country having different customs and practices all are tied by a single string of being India. The bond of being Indian is much greater than any other diversions. It’s true that we have seen communal riots ravaging Punjab and Bengal after Partition at the time of Independence. But it’s also true that we have fought as Indians 3 times sacrificing lives protecting the dignity of our mother. In 1962 fighting Chinese invasion, in 1973 and 2002 fighting Pakistanis on the borders. Even we have recovered Kargil from them. I mean to say that when there is a need we all forget minor thing...

Kali:The Indian Goddess
2007-04-03 08:13:00
This is a painting of a goddess named "Kali" in India . You will get to know about her in many Purans. The goddess is often called as "Maa" by the local devotes. Maa in local dialect means mother because the goddess is said to possess qualities that our mom has.She is said to be very caring for her children i.e. those who worship her or have faith in her. She is very loving and caring. If you have come across Ramakrishna Mission or heard about Swami Vivekanada you will know they all worshipped Kali at Dakshineshwar Mandir (Temple), on the banks of Ganges. Before explaining to you about my design I will first tell who Swami Vivekananda was because if I don’t I will really do a sin. Swami Vivekananda was a monk and disciple of Ramakrishna. He became a world figure after delivering his speech in Parliament of Religions on 11th September 1893 in the Hall of Columbus. He was the first to preach Hinduism outside the native land in modern times and rose to fame for bringing such a diversif...

Rangoli or Alpona - The unique Indian artistic designs
2007-03-31 07:56:00
"Rangoli" or "Alpona" are the common names of these designs in India . They are a part and parcel of Indian culture. If have a luck to visit Jaipur in Rajasthan you will come across this colorful drawings in each home. Rangoli is called in the west India whereas Alpona in east India. Then are also marked differences in output of the similar designs in two parts of the country. Rangoli is made up of different colors and gives a brilliant bright look whereas Alpona is always white and gives a peaceful calm look. The designs are manifestations of the cultural development in India. Jaipur, the pink city has Rangoli in every home. This is very common to understand because being a desert arid land this colors brings enthusiasm and positive thoughts in the life. But in the east the people by nature a more calm and they tend to be peaceful as they are not expose to harshness of weather and don’t face any food scarcity either as east is the gangetic plains and sea cost with fertile soils. Pirates on a high
2007-03-31 07:54:00
My cousin who is only 4 years of age originally devised this design. One day I was telling him a story of pirates and how they used to raid and how they used to go on daring adventures. It inspired my cousin a lot. Then he asked me to show him certain pictures of pirates, which I easily arranged from some storybooks in my shelf. He became very much engrossed with the pictures and was turning the pages over and over again and trying to read them by himself. Several times he ran to me ask for the meanings of the words or how he should pronounce them.It was fun watching him so much interested. Then for few days he asked me several times to tell him more stories about pirates. Very soon my stock finished and I had to make up new stories from the old ones, which the little one was unable to detect. Then one night he came to me told me he wanted to be a pirate and sail through the seas. I told him, he could go ahead only if he promises not to break any stuff and have his veggies regularly...

Yin and Yang
2007-03-30 08:24:00
This design is of Yin and Yang . They together make up the wholeness of the universe. They represent light and darkness, good and evil, action and inaction. According to Tao, all things are either female (yin) or male (yang) in nature. Life exists in balance due to complementarity of the opposites that exist in nature. We see a lot of suffering in this world. The root cause of all suffering is the imbalance of the male and female attributes in this universe.Osho says, "If differences between men and women disappear, love will also disappear because the polarity will go away. Man and woman are like negative and positive poles-they is attracted magnetically. Hence, conflict is natural. But through understanding, compassion, love, empathy, and any problem can be solved. Man needs as much liberation as woman. Both need liberation from the mind. They should cooperate and help each other".This design symbolizes the polarity that exists in nature, in our social life and in the entire univers...

"Om"
2007-03-30 08:21:00
My first design is taken from the Vedas and Purans. Vedas are considered to be the earliest books written by the Aryans, the original inhabitants of India but according to European researchers Aryans were inhabitants of central Asia and later migrated to India in search of new fertile soil. Purans are mythological books of Hindus, the rituals and proceedings of different prayers in Hinduism are derived from it.The design is named as "OM", which in Sanskrit (ancient Indian Language written in Devanagari Script) means "GOD". The design is dedicated to almighty and this symbol is very commonly seen in different temples in India. This symbol is very common but the design texture varies in different places. Even in parts of Nepal this can be seen. To make the long story short, this is the symbol of almighty himself and even considered by some that this symbol brings luck as it has unknown powers. My design though derived from the symbol is having certain variations. I have visualized the ...
How it all Started ?
2007-03-28 12:58:00
Nearly two weeks ago I borrowed a book called “Star t ing your own Business” from American library Kolkata. At that time I didn’t have any intention to set up an online shop. The book was just for reading so that I can gain some practical insights into the world of business. To clear you why, I am preparing to get into a B-School soon so I thought it might be helpful. As I went through the pages I was more engrossed with it. To know what I am speaking about I would recommend you to borrow it from library and go through it. It has many practical ideas and experiences. I will call it a collection of experiences of entrepreneurs than a book. So anyone before jumping into business of any sort should at least go through it once.As I was narrating, after 2 days when it was completed I was thinking of what I learned from it, I was trying to get the gist of the book. After about 2 days of it, sitting beside the lake in our community park an idea struck my head to try the rules in real w...
