a lovely mix of milky blue and fierce red beads, make this art-deco 'apollo' pendant something that i most definitely wouldn't object to having myself. not one bit, i'm just saying...

i'm out of sorts with the first cold i've had in years. my head feels as if it could pop off and fly away at any given moment, and well, i'm just not at my best. so, a pictorial review of the last few days in paris: lanvin (which wholly delighted me) ~ miu miu (which amused me) ~ nina ricci (which left me a bit perplexed) ~ louis vuitton (which i will refrain from commenting on) ~

what a different girl chloé has become. no longer the bohemian, she has turned into the modernist. which invariably means, i like her that much more. with a hint of marni, which isn't a surprise, given paulo melim's tenure with the house, and a fresh new outlook, chloé is a stronger, less agreeable girl. a girl i can get along with.

i did not expect to adore the kenzo s/s 2008 collection as much i did and do. the exuberance of colour, the playfulness of the clothes, the use of fabric and the loose, pretty cut of the pieces just made me smile. again and again.

fast becoming a favourite of mine, sonia rykiel's shows always seem to be the most fun. the girls are told to smile, to smile! and the skinny girls dancing in their light as air frocks at the end, well, that is always a good time.

i'm just going to step on adrian's toes for but a moment - but for all the pancaked faces, the abysmal, sheep-following-sheep fashion sense of the young hollywood set - i'll take the olsens over the rest of them any day. and for the record, the row does look very much unlike what you would expect from the slew of entertainers-turned-'designers' set... that said, i'm more than willing to admit that i quite like the minimal and slightly dark line...

i meant to post a quick quip about this quite a while ago, but for all my excuse-making as of late - let's just move on and make like nothing has been amiss lately... i'm sure you've heard of this line already, but i'm just going to reiterate the cute. nicole locher's small parisian line has got a very clever and delightfully dirty mind that maneuvers itself quite neatly into a sweet and slightly subversive collection of tops and accessories. you've just got to see them for yourselves...

although i've been out of commission on the wee bit front as of late, that does not mean that i've been sitting idly by while the world passes me by. i've been super busy - the fact finally dawning on me that there comes a moment where you just have to say, 'no, i actually can't do that for you' because i've got much too much to do for myself. so, let's see - over the last couple of weeks, i've seen my best friend get married, the boy and i have chosen our caterers for our w-day, and i was showered - my mother throwing me a fête that travelled straight from moscow right to toronto... it happened this past sunday, and from what i've heard, people are just beginning to feel a little less full. and well, my wedding dress has arrived. it's waiting patiently for me to come and take a peek, but to be honest, i think i'll just have to give myself a few more days until i'm courageous enough to go and have a boo. it's a very daunting experience, this white dress thing... bu...

"Gap has a rich history of celebrating creativity and offering consumers iconic American styles." now, i don't want to come off sounding pretentious and not just a little arrogant, and it's nice to see the corporation branching out with designer satellite collections - but when you think of the gap, do you think of "creativity" and "iconic" style? perhaps at one point the gap became ironic chic, but in my estimation? beige just doesn't fall into the same category as the creative and the iconic...

i've been in the trenches for the past little while, with little time to post. i have had a bit of time however to keep up-to-date with other bloggers out there, and today i was reminded that sometimes fashion isn't always as throwaway and amusingly superficial as it seems. sometimes, it can do a lot of good. thanks to grace at high fashion girl for reminding me that altruism exists in style...

i usually leave this sort of thing to the professionals, but sometimes there comes a product that just can't be ignored. when makeup becomes 'intuitive', there is a moment where you just think this is just advertising bunk - and that when bought into, will end up as nothing more than a waste of hard-earned cash. this is not the case with O-GLOW from smashbox.  this is a clear gel-blush that when applied to the cheeks intensifies to a lovely rosy hue. it comes pretty close to what i actually look like when i blush naturally, which is a pretty great trick to be able to harness and package neatly into a tube. it glides on smooth and has an almost powdery finish and leaves your skin feeling soft and positively radiant. and coming from a girl who buys blush like most people buy cups of coffee, is very high praise indeed.

i've tried chucking my big old winter boots to the side, in the vain hope that my sweet flats and high-heels can come out and play without fear of ice, soot and salt. i have attempted to wear some more baring shoes in the past few weeks - mostly this has been ill-advised as the weather just isn't up to the task yet, but i just can't help it. i have a very nice little shoe collection and i'm becoming a bit antsy to finally start wearing a pair or two, or seven. and can you blame me really? i mean, how could you not want it to finally get warmer when what is on offer is as lovely as these emilio pucci suede gladiator sandals and even j.crew's lucie d'orsay heels...?

i suppose there isn't any time better than the present to get back to it. i think this past week or so can be summed up by one large exclamation of 'no thanks, i'm all full up on feeling unwell, under pressure and with no yen to handle any of it.' and now that that is over and hopefully done with, i can get back to the truly hard hitting topics that wee bit tends to shake it's ruddy fingers at. i've been daydreaming away, having thoughts of a disposable income that allows one to just pop out and come home with something like this: the isotta strapless dress by missoni, which rings in somewhere close to a couple mortgage payments, has just got that something special that screams unique - with oversized pockets and slapdash flower print - this is the type of garment that makes dressing up so much fun. and really, don't we all need a bit more slapdash with a side order of fun?

it is not often you find a designer whose clothes are accessible both in terms of price point and availability - and yet has a common appeal that doesn't seem overdone or clichéd. usually when you see an item so instantly recognizable on one person, it becomes commonplace the second time around. this doesn't seem to be the case with phillip lim - at least from where i sit it doesn't. his clothes have a modern simplicity that i think is hard to pull off - understated chic is something that is a lot more difficult than you think. this is why i've become such a fan as of late - and when you look as good as you will in this green silk muti blouson - polished, but not too "done up", how could you not be an admirer?

i'm not the first to jot something down, glowing about these fantastic shoes from tashkent - by cheyenne and i most certainly will not be the last. the designs are stunning - structured, but somewhat aloof in their sensibility, the look is just right up my alley. currently a little difficult to pin down other than in new york, a sampling can be found at shopbop - but i wouldn't think that their stock will be able to handle the demand... the speedie wedge seen here in a luxe blue suede, are just glorious...

it may seem a bit twee, but i've always tempered the ever-so-slight edgier part of my wardrobe, with a touch of humour. i think humour is one of the most important facets of life, that it's a shame not to include it somewhere in your sense of style. i may wear black a lot, but that doesn't necessarily mean that my mood follows the same hue. so items like a double-buckle jumper from opening ceremony that could easily be worn by child becomes that much more adult with fantastic layering and a killer pair of shoes. which is how, of course, i'd wear this...
