Makeover Mondays: Schatar Edition
2007-07-24 01:33:00
Oh, Schatar! I don't even know where to begin...1. I'd give her a more dated hairstyle that she can maintain easily because this weave has had it! Also, the dirty blonde hue needs to go, I'm seriously thinking she should go red. 2. I'd choose tops for her that have supportive straps to support and lift her large bust. 3. I'd select makeup in neutral tones that keep her looking fresh and not overdone. I'd also update her cosmetic bag with fun yet subdued colors of the moment.4. I'd give her a more flattering pair of shoes that fit because these are obviously too small. So, how would you all make over Schatar?

"It's sort of an '80s throwback and attitude," says stylist Mariel Haenn who buys these fabulous earrings for her client Rihanna. "The hoops can be paired with a dress (for "a little more edge") or with plain old jeans and a T-shirt. Who shouldn't try the trend? "Anyone who doesn't have enough attitude to carry it," says Haenn. And, I must say that I agree. You have to have a great deal of confidence to be able to rock this bold accessory. Click here to shop at Jackie Nicole to purchase a few fa...

Max and Chloe's Latest Offerings...
2007-07-16 20:47:00
I thought it would be great idea for all of us to focus on a store other than Girlprops for our jewelry obsessions. So, for your sake and mine, I headed over to Max and Chloe for my jewelry fix. During my visit, I discovered that they are currently promoting their Pre-Fall 2007 collection. And, I must say, everything looks amazing . From fine jewelry to personalized items, handbags and more, Max and Chloe has got it covered. Left to right: Sydney Evan Cherry necklace, $395; Kenneth Jay Lane Gold Pear necklace, $60; Gorjana Gold Treasure Chime earrings, $60. All available at www.maxandchloe.com.When viewing other items in this collection, I would have to infer that the collection seems to be inspired by 'old-school Hollywood glam.? The majority of the pieces in this collection are rich and lady-like and they resemble items that were worn at Studio 51. You can always count on Max and Chloe to take the latest trends and put their own spin on it and this collection is no exception. V...

Makeover Mondays: Lil' Kim Edition
2007-07-16 20:47:00
Now, you know... I had to bring you another celeb worthy of a Spotlight On Style! makeover. And, who better to give a makeover than Lil' Kim. She may be dubbed the "Queen Bee", but too bad she hasn't been reigning supreme in the style department.Check out my makeover tips that are guaranteed to tone down her over-the-top look AND give her a balanced appearance: 1. I would choose tops for her that have supportive straps to support and lift her ample bust. 2. Since she has an large chest and slim legs, I would suggest rocking a light-colored jean and dark top to attract the eye away from top heaviness.3. For future references, a longer jacket or shirt will create a balanced look by supporting Kim's chest and slimming her torso. She should also choose pants that flare at the bottom and have some room in the leg.4. I'd put her in a full-cut skirt that flares away from the body, therefore balancing her large chest. How would you make over Lil' Kim? I'd love to hear your makeover tip...

Feet don't fail me now!
2007-07-14 00:04:00
It's happened to all of us at one time or another. You race from work to the salon to get a pedicure and when you get there, it's closed. Don't be that girl -- the one caught out there with chipped polish and rough heels in this fabulous summer season. Well, what to do? Keep these items around, and I guarantee that no one will know you missed your professional pedicure. 1. After a few minutes under the hot water, I reach for Totally Nutty Shea Nut Foot Scrub (www.freemanbeauty.com) The directions say to apply with hands or a pumice stone, massage into soles while focusing on rough areas and then rinse thoroughly. It's great when in you're in a rush and you don't you have to worry about wasting valuable polishing time. =) Bonus: This skin-smoothing foot scrub softens feet with nourishing shea butter and oatmeal, while pumice gently refines hard layers of skin to a baby-soft smoothness. 2. Next up is the Dr. Scholl's For Her Beauty Stone (www.drscholls.com). You can scrape al...

Seeing Red?

Above: Garcelle Beauvais at the "We are Marshall" premiere on December 14, 2006.Above: Jessica Alba poses in the press room of the 2007 MTV Movie Awards on June 3, 2007.Red, a color that is to be worn by ?someone who exudes power and sexiness." So, Spotlight on Style! girls get in line at your nearest shopping mall to pick up some fabulous items in red because you definitely fit the bill. From red apparel to red accessories, having a little red in your closet will do no harm. If you have a complex about wearing one color from head-to-toe, take a cue from Garcelle and add a little pop to an otherwise "basic" look with red accessories. I have always been a lover of this hue; it just screams "look at me" and that's ALWAYS a good thing. Does this season's hot new hue have you "seeing red?" What are thoughts?
Rihanna
2007-07-10 21:48:00
Above: Rihanna poses at a press call for the Tokyo Leg of the Live Earth Series on July 7, 2007.Lately, Rihanna has been seen EVERYWHERE! From award shows to concerts to hot after-parties, you name it, she was most likely there. The promotion of her latest cd, Good Girl Gone Bad, gives her all the more reason to stay in the spotlight. Despite the controversy about her new haircut and her newfound edgy look and sound (some say she's copying Fefe Dobson), you gotta admit she's been lookin great lately. Take this ensemble for example: this basic black halter jumpsuit looks even more fabulous with the two-toned Louboutin pumps she wore with it.

Makeover Mondays: Golden Edition
2007-07-02 22:53:00
Well, to kick off new ideas for Spotlight On Style!, I thought this would be a good addition to my weekly posts. Makeover Mondays are when we take a well-known celebrity and critique their look by giving our own personal opinions about how we would change their style if we had the chance. There is no particular format to follow, just give general comments about how you would change her style. Golden Brooks is first in line for a Spotlight On Style! makeover. Golden has been stuck in a style rut for some time now and she really needs to change her look up a bit. And after seeing one unflattering dress after another, I'd say it?s about time for a makeover!Above: Golden at the EA Harry Potter video game launch on June 21, 2007.Oh, Golden! Dawn Richards of Danity Kane is definitely doin big things. Though, we haven't heard much from Danity Kane over the past few months, another track from Dawn has surfaced. Produced by Jim Johnsin, "Flawless " is sure to be a hit in the clubs. I have a feeling it'll be a summer anthem for us ladies. I'm definitely feeling Dawn's new track and I'm feeling her new look too. The new cut and color is fierce! Her cut has inspired me so much that I want my hair cut just like hers. Yea, it's time to trade in the long locks for something shorter and sassier. Enough about me already, check out Dawn's new track "Flawless" and let me know what you think.Listen: "Flawless"What do you think of the track?

Butterfly Beaute Designs
2007-06-29 00:13:00
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of interviewing Tonya Williams, founder, owner and head designer of Butt er fly Beau te Designs Inc. She has been designing since she was twelve and over a year ago she decided to turn her passion into a business. Williams says of her design aesthetic, "I design jewelry for the woman who has her own style and isn't afraid to rock it. She doesn't follow the standard, she sets it and everyone else admires." Butterfly Beaute Designs' jewelry is designed to make a woman feel as though she is the starlet, the diva, the queen and/or the princess. With all the fabulousness BBDesigns entails, it was only right that I feature her designs on Spotlight On Style! Can you tell me what inspires you and what originally led you to the path of jewelry design?I've always had a love for jewelry even as a little girl. My Grannie used to take me to the jewelry stores and we would ooooh and ahhhh over the beautfful rings and other sparkly items. I am inspired by the old Hol...

The Slimming Effect: Part 1
2007-06-25 22:11:00
Let's celebrate the new, sunny season in soft easy shapes, saturated color and brazenly, bold patterns. It's a wrap: A wrap dress is the most figure-flattering dress around, especially for those of you who have a little meat on your bones. (So, all reedy models need not apply!) The cut both reveals and conceals, easily skimming your shape, defining your waist and enhancing your bustline. I love the versatility of a fully functioning wrap dress and with these hot picks, I hope you will too.Left to right: Crossover dress with belt; $27.80 at forever21, Wrap dress with belt; $22.80 at forever21, Venezia Surplice dress; $19.50 at Wet Seal, Floral wrap dress; $22.80 at forever21The bare necessities: The slip dress is a delectable choice that?s gotten even easier to wear with the introduction of looser cuts, varying hemlines and adjustable spaghetti straps. Try a fabulously trendy maxi version for the ultimate cool cover-up, or a flirty mini babydoll when you want to flash those gorgeou...

Polished Professional
2007-06-23 02:24:00
Getting dressed for the office doesn't mean you have to leave your personal style behind. Not convinced? Check out how some of your favorite celebrities rock a conservative look and still manage to look fabulous.Guidelines to looking polished:Color: Color plays a BIG part in your professional image. Traditional career colors include red (aggression), navy (trustworthiness), gray (conservative), and black (chic). Loud colors like hot pink and wild prints are too risky for the office and are better left for after-hour fun.Jewelry: Dangly jewelry is too distracting. Opt for studs or single bracelets instead.Handbags: Slouchy, hobo bags look sloppy in the workplace. Choose a more structured style to project an organized image.Fit: Fit is everything when it comes to your work attire. Pants should be fitted and panty line free and skirts look best in an A-line style. Jackets should be loose enough to be buttoned, if necessary, and blouses shouldn't gap between buttonholes.Remember: Proj...

No, not that light-up game from our good 'ol childhood days! I'm referring to another color favorite donned by some of our favorite celebrities. Like most trends, you don?t have to wear it from head-to-toe. I think wearing a yellow outfit and matching accessories is overdoing it, don't you think? Make like Rihanna and don a pair of bold, yellow skinny jeans or make like Beyonce and Rosario and rock a bright yellow dress with neutral accessories to obtain this fabulous look without going overboard.

Hit or Miss: Chandra Wilson

The doctor was in... but, was Chan dra's look? Chandra Wilson of Grey?s Anatomy?s took over the red carpet to host SoapNet's pre-show special for the 34th Annual Daytime Emmys. She addressed many of the small screen stars by their infamous characters' names, however I'd much rather address her ensemble for the evening. The color looks gorgeous against her caramel complexion but, the ruching at the bottom makes the gown so unoriginal. Also, her hair and accessories aren't the best either. Sorry Chandra, but this look is a MISS for me. What do you guys think of Chandra's look. Love it? Hate it?
