Placed EPS file with Vector Data Hangs InDesign on Export
2007-08-18 15:29:00 This has happened twice in our little production studio here in the span of a few days with two totally unrelated projects, on different machines, with different files. We flatten all our Photoshop files in to EPS files that we use at 100% in InDesign so that 1) InDesign doesn’t have to do any image interpretation on it’s own and 2) so we can get one final sharpen in on the flattened image. Many of our Photoshop files contain shape layers for various effects, so when we save as EPS, the option to include vector data is available. (For some reason paths and/or smart vector objects don’t trigger this option) If this option is CHECKED, that EPS file is placed in InDesign, and you export a PDF from InDesign (no matter what settings), InDesign will hang/freeze. In both cases, re-saving the EPS with the option unchecked and replacing it in InDesign solved the problem immediately. More About: File , Data , Vector , Export , Indesign

Security Vulnerability: Turn Your Firewall Back On After Installing Adobe C
2007-08-01 02:31:00 Installing Adobe Creative Suite 3 turns off your firewall on OS X. If you rely on your personal firewall for security (a good idea on any system) make sure you turn your firewall back on after installing. Adobe is saying that the installer needs to set up “controlled access to the Version Cue CS3 Server through specific ports” in your firewall. It needs to turn the firewall off before doing this and the installer does not turn it back on. Of course, you Apple folks have little to worry about in terms of viruses, but having your firewall on is good practice anyway just in case (and to help prevent direct attacks). To turn your firewall back on, go to your apple menu and select System Preferences. Then choose Sharing, then the Firewall tab, then click Start. Happy Safety. Creating a Contact Sheet in InDesign through Bridge
2007-07-29 18:15:00 Contact Sheet s are pages of thumbnails suitable for printing that are useful for all kinds of reasons: You may want to provide a variety of layout ideas to a client to choose from You may want to have a reference of design concepts with you for laptop-free meeting You may want to have a tangible catalog of your photographs. You could lay these out in InDesign by hand… if you were a glutton for punishment. Or you could do it really quickly and easily with Adobe Bridge . We realize just because you have InDesign doesn’t mean you automatically have Bridge, so if you are one of those folks who has InDesign Ala Carte, sorry, you are out of luck on this one. Navigate to the folder of images you wish to make a Contact Sheet out of in Bridge. Choose Tools > InDesign > Create InDesign Contact Sheet. If you have no images selected, Bridge will warn you that it will use all images in that directory. Otherwise Bridge will use only the images you have selected. Choose the options ...
