2008-01-22 00:50:00
InDesignCS4.com has a simple question: What do you want to see in InDesign CS4? I’m a simple man. I actually wouldn’t mind seeing less features. As well as, of course, stability and reliability.

Adobe Photoshop PSD files inside InDesign PDFs: What happens?
2008-01-16 22:23:00
Adobe InDesign allows you to place Adobe Photoshop (.psd) files directly into page layouts. But what happens when you export that layout to a PDF? Does it retain any of the Photoshop file characteristics? Here’s the deal: As long as you use PDF v1.4 or higher, it uses the same transparency model as Photoshop, so it ...

2008-01-15 21:10:00
Mark recently wrote in with a problem he was having in InDesign CS3.  The color black printed out slightly more grayish than he was anticipating.  He is using Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) but the problem and solution are the same on Windows XP and Vista as well as when using InDesign CS or CS2.  Mark’s ...

Print to Web - Is it worth it?
2008-01-08 23:47:00
There is a pretty interesting conversion going on over at Print Planet about Print to Web. It’s not specifically about InDesign, but I figure many of you InDesign folks out there may be interested in this. In a sense, print to web is kind of ANTI-InDesign, since it’s basically just form data that gets plugged into templates ...

What are InDesign CS3 IDLK Files?
2008-01-03 23:04:00
InDesign Help reader, Shannon, recently wrote in with a question about files with an IDLK file extension. Her problem ended up being a bit complex and somewhat specific to her permissions/network but I thought it would be beneficial to all to briefly go over what IDLK files are and what they aren’t. IDLK files are ...

Problems with ONYX Postershop 6.5
2007-12-06 18:31:00
Reader Malcom writes in to ask: When greyscale or bitmap images placed in InDesign CS2 or CS3 (mac) are printed to ONYX Postershop 6.5, the images invert to negative. This doesn’t happen in Quark. I can get around it by reversing the image to a negative in CS2, however, this doesn’t work in InDesign CS3 as the images don’t ...

Don?t Think of InDesign as a Ferrari, Think of InDesign as a Swiss Army Kni
2007-12-05 16:49:00
We recently had a reader write in with a question about an InDesign feature and ended by saying that he really didn’t want to switch to InDesign because it’s kind of like “going to the grocery store in a Ferrari ”. It was a pretty funny analogy, but I want to try to dispel that myth a ...

2007-12-03 18:13:00

Technically, these are the same page size, just different orientations. If you want to work on them both “right side up” technically they will be different page sizes ...

Installing InDesign CS3 on Leopard (Mac OS 10.5)
2007-11-15 23:46:00
Two weeks ago we posted an article on InDesign CS3 Leopard Compatibility. While the amount of outright bugs in InDesign CS3/OS 10.5 is minimal I think it’s a good idea to discuss possible problems people may have. First off I would highly recommend not upgrading your OS if you have any mission critical work that ...

Simulate Overprint on an InDesign PDF Export
2007-11-08 22:02:00
If you are using overprinted objects in InDesign and need to export a PDF, it is best to “lock in” that overprint so that anyone opening the PDF will see it correctly. If you don’t do this, and the person viewing the PDF doesn’t know to turn on Overprint Preview, things can look horribly wrong. Here ...

The long awaited Mac OS 10.5 operating system is finally out and by most accounts it’s rocking. This, alas, is not a rave of Leopard , but a list of bugs found when Apple OS X interacts with InDesign 5 (CS3). The good news is that it appears to work and Adobe has even ...

2007-10-05 04:48:00
If you want to rescale a number of objects in your document it’s usually easiest to group them up so you can just grab a single handle and resize as you please. But what if those objects span across multiple layers? You can’t group them because they will all bunch up on one layer. The ...
