2007-12-12 22:49:00
StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/)... The most addicting and fun social community website at this moment. I made it to the Top Stumblers on 12/2 (http://stumbleupon.wikia.com/wiki/Stumbl eUpon_Wiki:Top_stumblers) and I don't know if I should be proud of it, or not. Here's a list of a couple of the funniest SU related images that I collected during the stumbling. Most are "well-known" by die-hard stumblers, but I think they're still pretty funny to see, enjoy.

Bored? Dress your dog!
2007-12-10 16:44:00
We're owning a dog for a while now. His name is Billy and it's a very nice dog. There are some people on the world that like to dress up their dog. Sometimes, it looks pretty nice, like the tie on this dog. But some people just don't know when to stop. Here are 20 pictures of dogs that are dressed up for halloween (which was a couple of weeks ago). And sometimes, people really do look like their dogs (http://www.flyaboveall.com/dogs.htm) (or is it the other way around?).

Block ad-/spyware/popups without installing software
2007-11-26 17:16:00
Do you also hate ad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware)-/sp yware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyware )/po pups (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop-up_ad)? I guess most people will answer that question with a "Yes". There is many (free) software on the market that will get rid of any of this (Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/), Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.com/) etc.). The Firefox plug-in AdBlock (http://addons.mozilla.org/addon/10) does help a lot too. But what if you don't want to install any software or have Firefox? Here's a small trick that will help you to block any ad-/spyware/popups without installing software. This trick will work in Windows XP, I don't know if it works on Windows Vista.

15 tips on how to save bandwidth
2007-11-13 16:22:00
As I told you in one of my previous articles (http://www.marcofolio.net/reviews/love_f rom_social_bookmarking_sites.html), too many visitors on your website can cause it to go offline. This is because of the monthly bandwidth limit that is exceeded. Of course this is something that you don't want. But how can you optimize your website, keeping it online for as long as possible, making it less bandwidth consuming, without upgrading to a better host? Here are some tips on how to do this. I'm pretty happy with my host (http://one.com/), offering unlimited bandwidth for a low price. These tips are for those people that do have a bandwidth limit on their weblog or website.

Error handling by the big guys
2007-11-08 09:15:00

When the winter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter ) is coming up, the temparature is going down. Some people like the cold weather (snow) and others really hate it. But before you'll go complaining about the cold weather, take note that it always can be colder. If you're not sure if that's possible, check out these next images. AJAX-style image loading using CSS
2007-11-04 20:47:00
AJAX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AJAX) let's you show a nice loader when doing a XMLHttpRequest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMLHttpRequ est). It's great for the visitor, because it can see that something is loading. Bad thing for the web developer is, is that AJAX is hard to learn. So here's a small little CSS trick for some great user experience, making it look like you made an AJAX loader for images. You can implement this on a web page with an image/photo gallery or to a page where you have to load big images, like wallpapers. It's very easy to set-up and implement to your site. This technique doesn't work with any form of AJAX. It just emulates the style of loading, giving the visitor and indicator that there is activity going on.

Google's (http://google.com/) mailing service (Gmail (http://gmail.com/)) has a build in rich text formatter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Text_F ormat). The options (https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answ er.py?hl=en&answer=8260) of this text formatter are restricted. You can't add tables (http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/tabl es.html) or images (http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_image s.asp) to your email. In this article I'll explain how you can add such images, tables etc. to your Gmail message. This way, you can give more attention to your email, making it better to read or to promote something. Every blogger knows that social bookmarking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social _book marking) can help you tremendously getting a lot of viewers in a short amount of time. Sites such as StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/), Digg (http://www.digg.com/), Reddit (http://reddit.com/) and many more (http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/social30 .html) bring readers to your article. But what if all those bookmarking sites like one article? Be prepared for a whole lot of viewers... My articled called Top 40 Demotivational Posters (http://www.marcofolio.net/imagedump/top_ 40_demotivational_posters.html) was a big and totally unexpected success on social bookmarking sites. Use MonkeyJam to create stop motion videos
2007-10-27 19:53:00
Stop motion video's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_motion ) (or Clay Animation) are hot these days. On YouTube (http://youtube.com/results?search_query= stop+motion) you'll find a lot of these "frame by frame" animations. They're really easy to make and the effect is pretty nice. Just take a lot of pictures and put them after eachother, making it look like as if a static object is moving. If you're unfamiliar on how to create such a movie, I suggest that you'll read the tutorial to create a stop-motion animation (http://labnol.blogspot.com/2007/03/tutor ial-create-stop-motion-animation.html). MonkeyJam (http://www.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.co m/monkeyjam/index.html) is a very nice program that'll easily allow you to create stop motion videos. Most people use Windows Movie...
