Backup your Outlook messages rules and contacts
2007-02-01 01:53:01 The easiest way to backup messages, contacts and rules in Outlook using .PST file which Outlook offers as its import/export option. You pick the folders and subfolders in your outlook that you want to backup and it does it for you. The time the backup will take depends on the amount of data you have. This also is a great way to get rid of your duplicates as when importing from PST you get an option weather you want duplicates removed or kept as is. The only problem that I had with backing up outlook in PST and restoring it is the rule duplication. Make sure that none of your rules are in outlook before you import. Otherwise you will end up with a tonne of duplicates in your outlook folders and unfortunately there isnt an option in outlook to clean up duplicates, the only way is export/import in PST which can be risky if not done properly. Thats all I have to say on outlook backup at this stage. Technorati Tags: backup messages, Outlook, .PST, backing up outlook, outlook folders, o... More About: Backup , Contact , Your , Essa
Self motivation - Get yourself to backup
2007-01-31 01:52:01 Its really hard to get yourself into a habit to backup your data files regularly. When you are responsible for every technical aspect in a firm and your tasks vary from web design to programming, backup is really not something that gets done regularly. It is a priority, but so many things seem to come up before data backup. I think it has a lot to do with time management and team management. Its just that if someone occupies the server the image backup cannot be done. Even with exchange being used or something, image backup cannot be conducted. Or if the boss gives you alternative priority tasks that need to be done. I am sure someone out there knows what i mean. Is there a secret to backup being your weekly habit? Can you tell me if you know. Technorati Tags: time management, team management, image backup, exchange, secret to backup More About: Backup , Yourself , Motivation , Self , Your

2007-01-17 01:40:04 Currently our company has one central server that works as a file server, exchange server and webserver. As this server has a lot of crucial information it requires backup. There are two types of backup that are one. They are physical backup and image backup. Physical backup is a transfer of data to an external hard drive which is stored on another property to avoid hazards that may affect the entire building with its contents. Image backup on the other hard provides fairly quick backup of the entire hard disk and its settings (exchange settings, files, etc). Thus these two types of backup are the ones that we practice. It would be nice to be able to automate this file backup process in such a way so that it doesn?t interrupt our business very much and is efficient. Email backup especially is what needs to happen without interrupting auto responding emails that are being sent whilst our customers purchase our products. So I will look in more detail for a backup solutions that just m... More About: Company , Work , Current , Comp , Hat
I decided to set up a blog to share how I do my file backup.
2007-01-17 01:40:04 I decided to set up a blog to share how I do my file backup. I am also keen to find out faster and more efficient types of backup so I thought I would start a blog and post here new backup methods that I learned. I currently run a network of 7 computers and a server that runs microsoft exchange for the computer?s outlooks. Email backup is crucial, so is the data backup that is stored on the server. Currently I run Norton Ghost once every fortnight to make an image of the entire server hard drive. By the way, server has 2 mirrored 160GB hard drives which provides physical backup. Anyway, I hope you will find this blog useful and I will really appreciate any contribution that you can bring to this blog. By the way, I am a web designer and a marketing consultant so backup is really not my speciality, but because there is a shortage of staff and this is a small company I get to do all the file backup.
