Windows Vista ReadyBoost
2007-03-07 12:37:04 Windows Vista allows you to use flash based memory to be used as RAM(Random Access Memory). You can plug-in your high speed USB flash drive in to your computer and use this as an additional memory. Even though it won’t be as much fast as regular RAM, this concept will improve the overall system performance. Thanks to faster transfer rate of USB based flash drives. Windows Vista will cache programs in these memory that are not required in RAM, but not ready enough to be put in page file. Microsoft Says: Windows Read yBoost introduces a new concept in add-on system memory. You can use nonvolatile flash memory devices, such as universal serial bus (USB) flash drives, to improve performance without having to add memory “under the hood.” The flash memory device serves as an additional memory cache?that is, memory that the computer can access much more quickly than it can access data on the hard disk drive. 512 MB isn?t enough for Windows Vista
2007-02-27 06:28:02 According to Microsoft’s Wind ows Vista minimum system requirements, you need at least 512MB RAM. It seems this minimum memory is too low for the average performance. Microsoft’s on-the-box minimum RAM requirement “really isn’t realistic,” according to David Short, an IBM consultant who works in its company’s Global Services Divison. He says users should consider 4GB of RAM if they really want optimum Vista performance. With 512MB of RAM, Vista will deliver performance that’s “sub-XP,” he warned. This additional usage of memory is due to “SuperFetch” feature by which Vista pre-Loads data to memory from Hard Disk based on user activity. Other Hardware Vendor, Dell recommends minimum 2GB RAM for Windows Vista PCs. Memory maker Samsung also recommends at least 2GB RAM for “Vista Experience“.
