Intacct at the Office 2.0 Conference
2008-08-12 16:41:00 For the past two years, we've been looking for an accounting application that would be available as a service, would work with any web browser, would support multiple currencies, and could be integrated with Salesforce.com. After much research, we came to the conclusion that only one option was available: Intacct. Today, I am pleased to announce that Monolab, Inc. will deploy Intacct Small Business to manage our conference business, while Monolab|Workspace, Inc. will deploy Intacct Enterprise for managing its upcoming network of workspaces. Intalio is looking at it as well in order to manage its fast growing business (125% year-over-year growth for the past two years). Last but not least, Intacct is joining the Office 2.0 Conference as a Silver Sponsor, and will bring some customers along to present some very cool use cases. Many thanks to Gadi Shamia for his help in getting this partnership off the ground. More About: The Office
Oracle and SAP at the Office 2.0 Conference, Together...
2008-08-11 17:23:00 As competitors go, it would be difficult to find a more unlikely pair than Oracle and SAP, at least as far as enterprise software is concerned. Nevertheless, the good folks at Social Media Today managed to convince them to bury the hatchet, at least for the time of the Conference . Thanks to the work of Robin Carey, Kirk Petersen, and JoAnn McGrath, we're pleased to announce that Don Bulmer, VP, Industry and Influencer Relations, SAP, and Mark Woolen, SVP, CRM Product Strategy, Oracle will join the Online Community: Who Should Own It? panel. The moderator and a couple more panelists will be selected in the coming days. More About: Office , The Office

Dynamism at the Office 2.0 Conference
2008-08-11 16:55:00 Back in 2001, my good friend Doug Neal introduced me to Dynamism, a US based company importing cool devices from Japan. While nothing can replace regular trips to Akihabara if you're a true gadget lover, frequent visits to the dynamism.com website are the closest match you can get, especially if you're on a budget. This year, I am extremely pleased to announce that the good folks from Dynamism will join us for the Office 2.0 Conference . We will give them the largest table we can fit in the Gear Gallery, and they will demo their coolest gadgets. Many of them cannot be found in any domestic retail stores, hence this will be a great opportunity to discover some new form factors up close. Many thanks to Doug (Neal) for the introduction, and to Doug (Krone) for his participation. We look forward to seeing you both at the conference. More About: The Office

As part of this sponsorship, Ipevo is giving us 50 FREE.2 Skype USB Handset, to be gifted to the next 50 people who will register for the conference. More About: The Office

Office 2.0 Blog
2008-08-09 20:45:00 Two and a half years ago, I started the IT|Redux blog, which primarily covered two topics: Office 2.0 and BPM 2.0. Today, the Office 2.0 thread is moving to the just released office20.com website (powered by Jive Software's Clearspace). It will host the Office 2.0 Conference taking place every September, and continue the conversation throughout the year. The BPM 2.0 thread will eventually move to a new blog managed by Intalio, where it really belongs. The office20.com website is more than a blog. It's a very advanced platform that can host multiple communities, offering some pretty cool social networking features that we could not build with a simple blogging tool. Our goal is to turn it into the premiere destination for anything Office 2.0. The Office 2.0 Database will be migrated there in the coming days, and we'll add a couple more applications soon after the Conference. If the Office 2.0 topic is what drove you to the IT|Redux blog, please register to the site now, and follow... More About: Blog
Office 2.0 Blog Feed
2008-08-09 18:21:00 The Office 2.0 Blog is now using the feeds.feedburner.com/office20 feed that was generously donated by Dan Itkis, author of the Office 2.0 Reviews blog. If you were one of Dan's subscribers, please use this new feed instead. Many thanks to Dan for his help! Now, I'd love to use the twitter.com/office20 Twitter feed as well. If you know the person owning it, please make an introduction. More About: Feed
Welcome to the Office 2.0 Blog
2008-08-09 17:32:00 Two and a half years ago, I started the IT|Redux blog, which primarily covered two topics: Office 2.0 and BPM 2.0. It will host the Office 2.0 Conference taking place every September, and continue the conversation throughout the year. The BPM 2.0 thread will eventually move to a blog managed by Intalio, where it really belongs. Lately, the IT|Redux blog has been home to a lot of discussions related to the Monolab|Workspace project. These will be migrated to another Clearspace instance hosted on the monolab.com domain name. Such a distribution of threads should make it easier for readers to participate in the conversations that interest them the most. This will leave IT|Redux pretty much speechless. Nevertheless, I will make sure to provide an aggregated feed for the most devoted of my readers. And if you really want to know everything that's hapening in my life, feel free to read th... Office 2.0 Conference Website
2008-08-07 04:05:00 When we launched the first Office 2.0 Conference in the Summer of 2006, we thought we did everything in a rush. The event was announced on July 26, 2006, and a website was released on August 16. Less than six weeks before the event, which took place on October 12-13. But in retrospect, we really took our time, for until now, we did not even have a website. And the conference is less than a month away. Well, it was fun while it lasted, but some prospective attendees recently started to wonder whether we were going to have an event at all, so we fired our keyboards and mice this morning, and developed a brand new website in about eight hours. Monolab|Workspace San Francisco
2008-08-06 04:09:00 While our Palo Alto space is filling up nicely, we're starting to get more and more requests for a similar space in San Francisco . We gave our requirements to our real estate agent (Cornish & Carey), and they located some pretty cool properties. One of them in particular drew our attention, and I am happy to report that we might have found the perfect spot for the Monolab|Workspace San Francisco. [Continue...]
Second Extreme Productivity Seminar
2008-08-01 07:07:00 Ever since we launched the Office 2.0 Conference, summer months have been pretty busy for my wife and I. But this year is particularly interesting. Intalio is growing very fast now (the team doubled over the past six months, and is expected to double again over the next six months), the first Monolab|Workspace was setup in a record time, and the 2008 edition of the Office 2.0 Conference is generating a level of interest never seen before. Unfortunately, days only have 24 hours, and it does not look like it's going to change anytime soon. Only option: do more with less, and this is why we're continuously working to improve our personal productivity system, adding new tools, and streamlining workflows. If you want to learn more about them, I invite you to join us for the second Extreme Productivity Seminar . [Continue...]
David Allen at the Office 2.0 Conference
2008-07-31 18:02:00 Three years ago, I read David Allen 's Getting Things Done seminal book on personal productivity. Finding ways to implement David's extremely powerful yet deceptively simple workflow quickly became an obsession, and one of the primary motivations for developing the Office 2.0 concept. I later implemented my own version of David's framework through the Extreme Productivity System, but it's only when I met David and his team earlier this year that I really understood what the GTD was all about: it's a way of life that goes beyond productivity, and can have a profound impact on one's short time with the rest of us. Having made this discovery, all I wanted to do next was to share it with others. Unfortunately, David's busy agenda and relatively small home office in Ojai, CA would make it difficult for my 3,000 regular readers to benefit from the very same experience. But I have some great news today: you will soon get a chance to meet David Allen in person, for he generously offer... More About: The Office , Conference
Monolab|Design Trunk
2008-07-28 05:55:00 Four years ago, I was technically homeless. While working for Intalio, I was traveling so much (about 3 weeks every month) that I decided to leave my apartment, sell most of my belongings, and live in hotels. Whenever I would come back from a trip, I would crash at the Hilton Garden San Mateo during the week, and the W San Francisco on week ends. I did that for about 7 months, then decided that I needed a place to store my most valuable possessions, including some books and CDs. This is when the Monolab|Design Trunk was born. Then, Apple released the first aluminum-made PowerMac, and the project went out of control... [Continue...]
Monolab|Workspace Vancouver
2008-07-27 23:32:00 Our Palo Alto building's final inspection has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, after which we will be in a position to formally accept memberships. In the meantime, we received a request for 20 workstations in Vancouver , BC, and are considering moving this location up from Phase II to Phase I (details here). [Continue...]
Where is the Redux Model 1?
2008-07-23 18:23:00 Earlier this week, Michael Arrington created quite a flurry of interest by announcing the TechCrunch Web Tablet. Of course, any resemblance with the Redux Model 1 is purely coincidental. Nevertheless, Michael and his team might learn a couple of things from our own experiment, started ten months ago. Partnership with Polycom
2008-07-08 18:46:00 I am pleased to report that Monolab|Workspace just established a partnership with Polycom. Through this partnership, each workspace will be equipped with a fantastic Polycom HDX Media Center video conferencing system. The first system will be installed at the Monolab|Workspace Palo Alto, and should be ready to use at the launch party, to take place on July 14, 2008 (Bastille Day). Polycom will also join the upcoming Office 2.0 Conference as a Gold Sponsor. [Continue...]
Monocle?s Top 25 Liveable Cities
2008-07-07 18:05:00 I just arrived in Singapore for a two-day trip in the eponymous city, to be followed by Bangkok, Thailand. The 17 hours United Airlines flight with connection in Narita gave me the opportunity to pour through Monocle 's issue 15, volume 02, and its fantastic list of Top 25 Liveable Cities . Interestingly enough, the Phase I & II development plan for Monolab|Workspace (16 locations) includes 7 of Monocle's favorite destinations. Phase III & IV will extend the list to 64 locations, and every single one of them is on Monocle's list (extended with 5 challengers). [Continue...]
Independence Day
2008-07-05 03:13:00 On this glorious day, May is regaining her independence (from regular office work) by incorporating Monolab|Workspace, Inc., the company that will develop our workspace concept. We just received some paperwork from our lawyers (Fenwick & West), and are jumping head first into this new venture. Pretty exciting... [Continue...] More About: Independence , Independence Day
Office 2.0 Conference 2008 Registration
2008-07-03 22:03:00 The Office 2.0 Conference 2008 is just two months away, and it's time for us to start working on it again. In pure IT|Redux fashion, the whole event will again be organized in 9 short weeks, with no staff, and in a paperless manner. Granted, we have two editions under our belt, and we pretty much know what works and what does not. So let's do it again, and learn as much as we can along the way. A Better Traveling Experience
2008-06-30 13:57:00 Now that we better understand the concept for the Monolab|Workspace, let?s take a closer look at its benefit for the frequent traveler, defined as someone accumulating over 100,000 qualifying miles per year (1K on United Airlines for example). In fact, let?s go through the main steps of a travel abroad, and identify simple ways to significantly improve the traveler?s overall experience, with a single goal in mind: reducing stress, by eliminating uncertainties. Micro Global Business
2008-06-29 17:53:00 As we're further developing the concept for the Monolab|Incubator, we're starting to realize that our target market is not exactly the one we had in mind initially. While early stage companies remain our customers, we're slowly expanding our focus from the solo entrepreneur to the already-formed start-up company. And for the later, we're focusing on what we call Micro Global Business es (MGB). [Continue...] More About: Standardization
I Love Technology
2008-06-24 08:37:00 Nine years ago, on this very day, I was in Tokyo, speaking at what might have been the first local conference on Open Source. Back then, the only way to connect to the Internet on the go was by using a 28 Kbps modem, assuming you could afford the cost of a long-distance call to your home-based ISP, or would know the local dial-up number for AOL or CompuServe. Nine years later, at this very moment, I am writing this blog post sitting in a JR train on the Yamanote Line, connected to the Internet using a brand spanking new EMOBILE 3G modem bought in Akihabara, built by Huawei, and delivering a mind-blowing 7.2 Mbps. 257 times faster, sans wires. I love technology... Many thanks to Nicolas for his help in setting this up. More About: Technology , Love
Virtual Incubator Concept
2008-06-20 14:05:00 Since we announced the creation of the first Monolab|Incubator, many people have asked us whether we will offer drop-in packages or not. We've given very serious considerations to this request, and came up with a virtual incubator concept that got the attention of many people, especially from the VC community. Lease Signed
2008-06-19 23:04:00 May and I just signed the lease on the space we're renting in Palo Alto downtown for the Monolab|Incubator. The address is 543 Bryant Street, half a block away from both City Hall and University Avenue. Essentially, Palo Alto's epicenter. We decided to work on this project no earlier than May 25th (less than a month ago), May tendered her resignation on June 4th, and here we are three weeks away from our grand opening. Some people think we're a bit crazy, and I can totally see why... This is getting fun! More About: Signed , Lease
BPM 2.0 Redux
2008-06-15 01:34:00 In about 40 minutes, I will give a presentation on BPM 2.0 at a conference taking place on the Australian Gold Coast (Winter is nice down there). While I was going through my emails and blogs before the event, Google Reader recommended that I take a look at a post titled Do We Really Need BPM 2.0 and authored by Jim Sinur, a former Gartner analyst who recently went to work for Global 360. While I'm glad to see the moniker Bruce Silver and I created two years ago being adopted on the marketplace, I must admit that I was quite surprised to see that Jim was making it his own, without giving due credit. While I would usually treat such blatant plagiarism as pure flattery, I just cannot ignore it today. Eight years ago, I introduced the concept of BPMS, and made significant contributions to the concept of BPM with my friend Howard Smith, only to see them corrupted by industry analysts who love nothing more than confusing customers in order to sell them advisory services. Not all of them...
Floor Plan & Launch Party
2008-06-12 11:20:00 The Monolab|Incubator project is moving full speed ahead. The floor plan is drafted, all required furniture and equipment are budgeted, and a launch party is scheduled. My Salesforce.com instance shows 61 sub-projects related to it, from setting up an Internet connection, to developing a Return on Investment model. Monolab Incubator
2008-06-04 09:35:00 Over the past couple of years, I have worked with a dozen start-ups in an advisory capacity. Through my interactions with entrepreneurs, and my personal experience starting Intalio, I developed a fair understanding for some of the challenges that most founders face when creating a company. Funding and hiring are among the most complex, and there is no substitute for direct experience there. But there is also a class of logistical problems that can be addressed with simple solutions, and can be shared across multiple companies. Here comes the Monolab|Incubator, which my wife May and I are starting together. [Continue...]
Miscellaneous Updates
More articles from this author:2008-05-06 02:49:00 Between Intalio, which staff doubled in size over the past six months, extensive traveling around the world (over 50,000 qualifying miles flown so far this year), the occasional extreme productivity seminar, my training for the commercial pilot license, and the time spent with my family (Cf. Father Pride), I found it difficult to maintain a regular blogging schedule lately. I'm hopeful that I'll find the right pace eventually, but in the meantime, here are some noteworthy updates on various fronts. [Continue...] More About: Updates 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
