GS1 DataBar Barcode Released
2007-04-05 17:14:00 GS1, formerly the UCC-Council.org, has renamed the Reduced Space Symbology (RSS) barcode to the GS1 Databar. This new barcode type can identify small items and can contain more information that the current EAN/UPC barcode. The GS1 System provides several types of bar code for use by GS1 members depending on the application. The bar codes used by GS1 include EAN/UPC, GS1 DataBar, GS1-128, ITF-14, Data Matrix, and Composite Component. For example, the UCC/EAN-128 will now be known as the GS1-128. GS1 DataBar will enable GTIN identification for hard-to-mark products such as fresh foods and can carry GS1 Application Identifiers like serial numbers, lot numbers, and expiration dates.
