First SA Blogger fired
2007-12-03 09:38:00
That has got to be a strange feeling indeed. Fired for blogging. For voicing an opinion. Ex-sub editor at the Sowetan, Llewellyn Kriel has blogged about his experience as the first South African to get axed for blogging. Reading through his article made me think about a few things. Does a judge in today's courts even know what a blog is? Do they have enough tech-savvy to be able to handle a case like this? Food for thought.

Those Xbox blues...
2007-11-30 11:41:00
I really want an Xbox 360. I'm getting to that point where I want it real bad. I've been reading up about Xbox Live, how to bypass the system without having an American Credit Card (since Microsoft doesn't officially support the Xbox Live Service in SA yet), which games are available on Xbox Live Arcade and I've been scouting the area for shops with good prices on their games.  read more »

What a day...
2007-11-25 22:15:00
I saved a life today. At least I think I did. I can't say with absolute conviction that the kid wouldn't have been all right otherwise but at the time it looked pretty serious. Rather safe than sorry I always say. We were at my brother-in-law's daughter's 2nd birthday party. Try saying that three times fast. Anyway, the day went well and we started the day taking all the kids to a petting zoo venue, where the kids got to feed ducks, geese, swans, goats and all sorts of other animals.  read more »

Hardware Requirements
2007-11-14 07:30:00
I have been playing a bit more games than usual (trying to at least) but there's one thing bothering me. Computer hardware. At home I'm playing games like Final Fantasy VIII and Quake 3 for one reason and one reason only. My hardware is not adequate enough to play the latest and greatest games available now.  read more »

Facebook: Hot or Not?
2007-11-08 15:44:00
I have been a user of Facebook (albeit not an avid one) for a while now, and while I can't say I've used it to it's full potential, I feel I have frequented it enough to make an opinion about it. I visit the site regularly (regularly meaning 5 times a week), I check the groups every now and then and if there's an application out there that I think could be to my benefit, I'll go looking for it and I'll install it.  read more »

Console's vs Computer...
2007-10-31 07:54:00
Well... Here we are again. I have stated before that I'd never buy a console for gaming, since a pc can do that and more... Recently I had to send my pc in for repairs (random restarts...) and I borrowed Rocco's PS2. The previous week I was at Ettiene and we had a blast playing PS2 Burnout (I think) and swapping on FFX and of course, cheering on the bokke!  read more »

Islam fundamentalists don't crash into buildings...
2007-10-29 15:40:00
the US government does. At least, that's the story according to Alex Jones. Jones is the owner/author of the "controversial" website Prison Planet. Basically what he's saying is that the collapse of the Twin Towers was not and structurally could not have been the result of planes crashing into the buildings. The actual cause of the collapsing towers was the detonation of strategically placed bombs within the building. You can read more on the story here.

Can blogging be restricted?
2007-10-25 08:43:00
I direct you to this blog entry of an Italian gentleman called Beppe, who informs us about a new law that they want passed in Italy. Let me give you the short version of it: 1. They want people in Italy who want to run a blog to register on some government database. 2. People would have to pay a blogging tax. 3. You would need a registered journalist that would be your appointed "responsible director". Now I don't know about you, but this sounds like restricting freedom of speech to me.  read more »

Games, Life and Squash
2007-10-22 08:57:00
So this weekend I had some time to myself. And I spent it the way it should be spent. Gaming. I almost finished Zelda: A Link to the Past on the SNES this weekend. Also, I had a LOT of time to play Albatross18 this weekend and I finished three 18-hole courses last night alone. Made lots of money to upgrade my character with!  read more »

PangYa!
2007-10-13 10:40:00
PangYa? What's that? It's a very distinctive sound made when a pro golfer hits the sweet spot on the ball. No, not Tiger Woods. I'm talking about Scout, Max and Bob. It's a game called Albatross18 and I'm addicted! It's an online golf game, with an anime look and feel, arcade-style special shots that require specific button presses and it even has RPG elements like gaining experience points and buying helpful items. What more could you ask for?  read more »

NOOOOooooooooo!!!
2007-09-28 10:30:00
Robert Jordan, author of the Wheel of Time series died a few days ago *sniff*. Not only is this a tragedy in the sense that the world has lost one of its great epic fantasy authors, but he also could not complete the final installment of the Wheel of Time series. He started the series in 1990 and I've been following it for the past 10 years... So close and yet so far... :(  read more »

Word of the Day - Twink
2007-09-25 13:45:00
Today's interesting word I came across, Twink. Twink (gay slang) is used in gay slang to describe an attractive young or young-looking gay male (usually in his late teens or early twenties) with a slender build, a slight muscular physique, and little or no body hair. In some societies the term "chick" or "chicken" is preferred.[citation needed]  read more »

Console or PC?
2007-09-25 09:48:00
So there are some nice games coming out closer to the end of October and obviously later in the year (with Christmas being around the corner) but it puts me in a precarious position. I want to have a gaming system again, but I have to make a choice between upgrading my PC (or buying a new one completely) and an Xbox 360. Both systems have their merits. Pros and cons.  read more »

It's been a while
2007-09-19 13:15:00
I had a fun weekend. Went down to Cape Town with my wife to go visit my parents and my brother. Even though it was only for a short time period, it felt really good to see family and friends again. I should see to it that I go visit there more often. You sometimes forgot how much friends really mean to you when you don't see them all the time. On the job front things are going a bit hectic. We are pulling reports left, right and center because the "information" doesn't look right.  read more »

Robotech headed for the big screen
2007-09-11 08:29:00
Don't know if this is a case of "follow the leader", but after the box-office hit that was Transformers, the popular franchise Robo tech is to be converted to a live-action movie as well. Tobey Maguire who plays Peter Parker in the Spider-Man series of movies will be producing this film under his own production company label. He's also rumoured to take the lead role himself in the movie.  read more »
