Horrific Bike Accident Caught On Film In Mexico
2008-06-03 17:14:00
Ever wonder what it would look like driving a car into a peloton of roadies? This has to be one of the worst images of bike carnage I have ever seen and while not DH/FR related, it is worth showing. A drunk driver who fell asleep at the wheel swerved into the lead pack of riders in a race in Monterrey Mexico , just south of the U.S. / Mexican border across from Brownsville, Texas. One rider was killed and 10 others were injured. This is why I will always take my chances on the mountain rather than the road, because we all know that riding the road in Phoenix is no better than riding the road in Mexico when it comes to drunk drivers... Cactus Bike Ahwatukee Robbed
2008-06-01 18:57:00
On Friday, May 30th at approximately 3:45 pm, the two men pictured posed as customer's interested in buying a new bike. The bike they picked out just so happened to be the most expensive bike in the shop with a price tag on it, a 2008 Giant Reign XO valued at $3800. While the man in yellow acted to be interested in buying the bike, the other suspect remained on his cell phone nearly the entire time, most likely acting as a watch or distraction. After nearly an hour of looking at the bike and asking questions about it, the man in yellow took the bike out back for a test ride and took off. The other suspect in the striped shirt came back in the shop through the back door and left through the front door before any of the employees knew what was happening. If you have any information regarding the identities of these two suspects, please contact the Phoenix Police Department or Cactus Bike . The entire surveillance footage of these two is available after the bump.  read&nbs...

Its Official: Sunrise Pulls The Plug On Mountain Bikes
2008-05-21 18:04:00
Its official... Sunrise has pulled the plug on lift assisted mountain biking in Arizona. Literally 4 days before the scheduled opening of Sunrise Ski Park in Show Low Arizona, the local Tribe who controls the land has decided to not open for the summer. This decision is a huge blow to the gravity scene here in AZ and the parks re-opening to bikes in the future is in doubt. The White Mountain Cup Race which is scheduled for June 13-15 is tenatively still on for now, but with this decision, I don't really see how the trails will be in race ready condition, or who will actually support the race or the resort. If you would like to voice your opinion to Sunrise Ski Park about this decision, please send an email to land manager Bill London at london@cybertrails.com We just ask that you keep any comments friendly since Bill has been a good friend to the bike movement at Sunrise and is the voice for us bikers that the tribe listens too.  read more »

Sunrise Park - NOT OPEN MEMORIAL DAY
2008-05-19 16:57:00
A good year for snow up at Sunrise Ski Park is a bad year for bikes and unfortuneately this is one of those years. Sunrise will NOT BE OPENING to riders on Memorial Day weekend. On the top of the mountain there is still anywhere between 1-3 feet of snow and all of this will require additional time to melt off before trail work can be done to get the mountain ready to ride. There is however a need for volunteers to do trail work in the next week or so, which we will have more details shortly. We will keep you posted as we get more info. In the meantime keep an eye on the Sunrise webcam and you can help the snow melt with your glaring blank stares... Sunrise Ski Park Webcam  read more »

A big thanks to all those who made it out to Globe this past weekend to work and ride Six Shooter ! The upper crew was able to get several new "features" built and the lower crew was able to clean up the trail, secure the creek crossings and added a few new "features" themselves. A huge thanks to Dave and Micheal for organizing the weekend and for those of you who missed out, I suggest getting up there and riding a great stretch of trail before the summer is here full blast. Melissa Buhl Takes The Win at Sea Otter 2008
2008-04-22 18:38:00
Melissa Buhl, the Valley's very own woman's pro downhiller has captured the top podium spot at this years Sea Otter Classic in Monterey California. "The KHS rider, who is studying undergraduate kinesiology and pre-med at Arizona State University, was excited about her first-ever Sea Otter downhill win. "I work hard for Sea Otter every year. It's been a goal of mine and last year, I finished third. I think having good fitness helped." Buhl said she bobbled just once early in her run, which cost her some time as she lost speed while in a high gear. "But I think that was probably a good thing as it motivated me for the rest of the run." You can read the full article as well as see complete results from this year's Sea Otter Classic over on cyclingnews.com  read more »

Sunrise Park- No Bikes This Summer
2008-04-01 18:43:00
It appears that after a record snow fall this winter in northern Arizona, that the management at Sunrise Park , Arizona's only lift assisted mountain bike park, has decided not to open for bikers this summer. "The 2007-2008 ski season marked a record winter for Sunrise Park. With record amounts of snow fall and user turnout, this season has been the best in nearly a decade for Sunrise Park Resort. After much deliberation, we have decided that with the rising cost's of fuel to run the lift, fry bread and Bud Light, that is does not make economic sense to remain open throughout the summer." The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Shortbus James Makes Headlines
2008-02-28 17:48:00
AZ's own legendary Short Bus James has made some headlines in a news article about cycling in Arizona on getoutaz.com. Best quote of the article: Worst nightmare while riding:"Catastrophic equipment failure. Say youíre doing a huge jump or a huge drop and your front wheel collapses or your front fork snaps in half." Yeah, I would say thats pretty bad, but everything James has done for the DH scene in AZ has been good. Everyone owes him a huge thanks, without him Sunrise would not be what it is, nor would the DH scene on South Mountain. Read the full article at: www.getoutaz.com  read more »
