Oversimplification of new TaylorMade R11 driver?
2011-01-14 15:30:00 The "revolutionary" new Taylor Made R11 driver has been oversimplified in its new ad campaign, introducing the golf club with children singing an old Sesame Street tune. Although VP of brand and product marketing Bob Maggiore said the TaylorMade R11 driver's "stunning design, technology and performance clearly set it apart from the competition," it's hard not to think in black and white instead of 1080i. The new TaylorMade R11 driver head is white, atypical for the most part but that is not what sets it apart. The R11 can be fine-tuned to the user by changing loft, face angle and flight path. This concept was probably too complicated for the masses, especially when attempting to explain it in a TV commercial. Instead, let's sing a song! Here is TaylorMade missing the boat in an earlier TV commerical, Transported. I'm not saying that the ad for the R11 isn't "cute" because it is but... I don't want a cute driver and I don't want a golf club that I picture comes as part of a... More About: Driver
Golf snitch tweets in DQ, should Poulter be offended?
2011-01-11 17:52:00 "An armchair official tweeted in to get Camilo DQ. What is wrong with people have they got nothing better to do?" tweeted an angry Ian Poulter after a fan spotted a rules violation on TV by Villegas and decided to say something about it. In this world where everyone is now connected through the internet and social media, Dave Andrews decided to tweet it. The question was not whether Villegas is guilty of the infraction but whether fans should come forward or leave policing and the outcome of the game to pro golfers? "No one likes a snitch," continued Poulter. True but also no golfer wants to lose a big paycheck and FedEx points at the end of the day...and no golfer wants to win for the wrong reasons. Poulter made a good case on Twitter for why fans should see something, say something, "I still dont know all the rules, theres too many. More to life than eating rule books." Yes it is difficult to remember all of the rules...there are so many (... More About: Golf , Snitch
Men technical, women more social golfers says LPGA Coach
2011-01-08 02:12:00 To meet golf professionals through social media services takes just a single click, a simple "LIKE" or "FOLLOW" and maybe a note asking, "Will you join my professional network on LinkedIn?" Golf is considered a "social" sport and I believe that interactions and connections made on services such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn may just help to solve fundamental issues and grow the sport for future generations. I continually search out and invite golfers into my professional networks and find that they do the same. A connection through LinkedIn is how I met Mary Paulson, LPGA Professional Golf Coach at Total Approach® Coaching, Site Director LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of El Cajon and a firefighter in San Diego. Mary's interest in growing the game of golf for girls, ages 7 to 17, to "build lasting friendships and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment," led me to send her a friendly email. With Mary's okay, here is our "chat": STACY SOLOMON: Do you find... More About: Social , Women , Technical
Does the 2011 PGA Tour season start in Kapalua or Torrey Pines?
2011-01-05 18:34:00 With neither Tiger Woods nor Phil Mickelson starting their respective golf season until the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines and with a lack of "star power" in Kapalua, will the kick-off at the Hyundai Tour nament of Champions become a non-event? The Hyundai Tournament of "Champions", the PGA Tour's season-opener, will be short several winners including Mickelson (Masters), Louis Oosthuizen (British Open) and the big talk of the 2010 golf world, Lee Westwood. Three out of the four major's champions will not be in Hawaii at an event meant to bring them all together for the kickoff of the season. Tiger Woods did not win a single event in 2010 and therefore was not invited to the season opener. Woods' return to Torrey Pines was carefully thought out as Tiger has won the last five events he has played there, including a U.S. Open. Woods and Mickelson were more visible in tabloids and in tweets than on the leaderboard last year. Tiger's indiscretions o... More About: Season , Start
How to avoid a snowball effect in your golf swing.
2011-01-01 19:00:00 With the New Year upon us, golfers thoughts turn to fervid resolutions of more purposeful practice with the hopeful results showing through fewer strokes and a lower handicap. Work and life get in the way and, for golfers who had glitches in their golf swing from the start, it is inevitable that those inconsistencies will creep back into the swing. Practicing the basics of the golf swing can save your season and can stop a small swing flaw from turning into into a swing hitch. Golf for Beginners presents excerpts from an article by Brant Kasbohm, PGA Director of Instruction for FixYour Game.com called "The Snowball Effect ". What better way to start a New Year than with the fundamentals of a good golf swing? The Snowball Effect, By Brant Kasbohm We all know how (in our lives) one bad decision can breed others, or how one small white lie can lead to more & bigger ones. Such is true in the golf swing. 2011 PGA Merchandise Show: The Disney World of Golf
2010-12-28 22:38:00 This January marks the 18th official PGA Merchandise Show , a conglomerate of about a thousand golf retailers showcasing everything from new equipment to the hottest looks in fashion. There will be over 100,000 golf products in one place, educational seminars, Demo Day and short game competitions. What would a golf show be without a friendly challenge? Over the next few weeks, Golf for Beginners will introduce you to exhibitors, products and special events which could very well turn O.C. Convention Center into its very own Golf Disney World ! Probably the most important place to start our journey are reasons why exhibitors wait to introduce their new offerings until the PGA Merchandise Show...aside from the obvious New Year, new product consideration. Brian Whitcomb, former PGA of America President and owner of Lost Tracks Golf Club states, "For me, the PGA Merchandise Show is all about the new and exciting products and services that are availabl... Tiger Woods wish list for 2011?
2010-12-26 17:45:00 Tiger Woods stole 2010 golf headlines not through the "win" column and not through a commitment to being "the best a man can get". Instead, Woods became media fodder by being trounced on the golf course and through an infidelity which rocked the golf world. Tiger lost his top PGA Tour standing, millions of dollars in endorsements as well as the respect that he used to easily command from fans and the media. With 2011 just around the corner, many of us participate in the New Year ritual of compiling resolutions to improve upon our weaknesses and enhance our strengths. If Tiger Woods is embarking along the same journey, perhaps he is starting with these few declarations. A new and improved golf swing. As Tiger Woods says in his blog, Sean Foley is helping to rebuild his golf swing but, "It just takes time to build. You just have to go piece by piece. Before, I couldn't even do it on the driving range and now I can. Now, after working with Sean Foley, I can do it on the golf cour... More About: Tiger Woods , List

Shanks fore the golf warning New York!
2010-12-22 16:02:00 May the "FORE's" be with you! The golf term "FORE" is understood throughout every language as a warning, a way to let golfers around you know that your shot may be heading their way. Most of the time all is forgiven as we have all hit errant shots during a round of golf. In New York (and California according to the New York Times), the term "FORE" now has less of an impact. Many news outlets have picked up on the ruling made yesterday that there is a risk whenever playing a dangerous sport such as golf. DANGEROUS? The sport could be as golf balls travel at high speed and, when taking a swing, a 7-iron can do a lot of damage if you're standing too close! Golf is only dangerous if and when other golfers don't rely on proper etiquette during a round. Here are a few tips to make golf more safe: Always keep an eye on your playing partners: if a golf club is out of their bag, assume a shot is being taken.Stand behind the golfer taking the shot. The "crying shame" about Tiger Woods golf vs Westwood, Molinari duel
2010-12-08 17:35:00 When it comes to deciding the highlights of 2010 there are plenty of contenders for most dominant display and an obvious winner of the most exciting moment of the year in golf. However a special category should be saved for the display of Francesco Molinari and Lee Westwood at the WGC-HSBC Champions for producing one of those most-cherished moments in tournament golf; a good old-fashioned duel! Tim Maitland reports. No-one in their right mind could argue against that rain-sodden reenactment of the Somme ? the drama at the Monday denouement of the Celtic Manor Ryder Cup ? as the highlight of the year. Special mention would go to the three-way play-off for the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits (Dustin Johnson eventually being penalized for grounding his club in a ?bunker? on his 72nd hole, while Martin Kaymer saw off Bubba Watson): an Oscar winner in any other year. Graeme McDowell: Why golf needs Tiger Woods
2010-12-06 17:08:00 After putting his way to victory in a playoff at the 2010 Chevron World Challenge, Graeme McDowell was proud yet effusive in his praise of Tiger Woods . McDowell believes that golf needs Tiger Woods. "Mentally Tiger is great match player. He's the greatest player ever, and he expect guys to hole putts like that. Did I expect to hole them? I'm trying to hole them, of course." credit Where many golfers like McDowell want to hole putts believing that the ball may go in the hole, Tiger Woods knows when he stands over a putt that it will drop. Golf ers who play against him still expect that he will stage a comeback when he's down (in spite of his lackluster year) or at the very least, fight until the very last putt on the 18th green has dropped. It's the knowledge of Woods' mental strength that keeps the players on their toes and adds mystique to Tiger's golf game. Graeme McDowell was happy that he was invited by Tiger Woods adding, "Just great to see him back playing great ...

Is the new Adidas aG Strike Golf Bag a stand-out?
2010-11-24 21:25:00 Considered the "hero" of the 2011 Adidas Golf Bag Collection, the aG Strike Stand Bag is lightweight and durable, loaded with basic comforts and thoughtful details which will please even the most demanding golfer. I really put this golf bag through its paces (sorry Adidas) hoisting it in and out of my car with the help of the easy-grip handle, but unfortunately it collided bottom first onto the ground a few times. I tried to be gentle with my new stand bag but happy that Adidas had me in mind when they constructed the aG Stand Bag with double-stitched seams and strong binding on the base cuff of the bag. The sturdy non-slip rubber grips on the bottom of the arms and the crush-resistance of the bag are also appreciated! From a woman's perspective, the lighter weight (4.3 lbs) and not-too bulky anti-fatigue straps really make a difference carrying the bag as well as putting it on/taking it off during the round. The six-way compressed nylon top, four-way full-length dividers were ...
Forsgate Golf and Country Club number one in GolfStyles Magazine

Forsgate also claimed top-ten spots in the categories of “Best Private Golf Course” and “Best Restaurant,” among others. Has European Tour golf won out over the PGA Tour?
2010-11-15 16:54:00 In what is considered by some to be a snub to America, Rory McIlroy recently declined PGA Tour membership for the upcoming 2011 season joining Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood as staunch supporters of the European Tour. ?The two best players in the world at the moment are not going to join the US Tour next year,? said McIlroy, number nine in the world. ?It's a great time for European golf.? Both Westwood and McIlroy have voiced concerns about a long PGA Tour schedule with few breaks in between events and the idea that their golf careers should not be solely about money. The PGA Tour further ostracized Euro Tour golfers recently with its offer of a three-year exemption to the winner of a WGC event in China only if that golfer is a member of an American Tour! Adidas Golf Strike aG Stand Bag first impressions
2010-11-09 21:56:00 Adidas Golf aG Strike Stand Bag Here are a few first impressions after opening the box which contained my new Adidas Golf Strike aG Stand Bag. The Adidas Strike aG Stand bag is very light (4.3 lbs) and easily lifted out of the box with the help of the rubber-fingered grip positioned on the rim of the golf club holder. This grip should come in handy as I lift the stand bag in and out of my car. For left-handed people like me, the Strike aG golf Stand Bag comes with the dual-carry strap set up for right-handed golfers (the majority of players) so be prepared for a quick switch-over which took me all of three minutes. I don't think that this picture does the Adidas Golf Strike aG Stand Bag justice! The bright red color coupled with gray and black are a great combination for both men and women golfers. WGC-HSBC Champions Puts Exclamation Mark on Europe?s Miraculous Year
2010-11-08 23:20:00 The day before his 28th birthday, Francesco Molinari put the finishing touches on four days of incredible golf, becoming the first wire-to-wire winner of the WGC-HSBC Champions and emphatically proving that world golf in 2010 belonged almost exclusively to Europe , Tim Maitland reports. Mickelson, Montgomerie, Scott awed by China's future Golf Champions
2010-11-05 19:54:00 2010 Valero Texas Open winner Adam Scott had been beaten by a girl before, just not by a 12-year-old. Playing the 17th hole of the WGC-HSBC Champions Pro-Am, Scott found the bunker and made bogey. Little Lucy Shi Yuting, a thireteen-time winner in three years on the HSBC National Junior Championship, made par. The significance is twofold, says the writer of this article, Tim Maitland. The other girl to beat Scott was a few years ago and someone called Wie – Michelle Wie – and you can make a note that November 3rd 2010 was the day when the elite of men’s golf truly came to realise that China is coming faster than they realized. “These are the Olympic champions and world champions of the future. Golf: Is China Coming?
More articles from this author:2010-11-02 15:45:00 Addressing China ?s emergence into world of golf is not a question of ?if?, it?s a question of ?how fast?? Tim Maitland reports. There are few definitive truths one can utter about a nation of China?s massive scale. There are, however, some useful generalizations about the ?Middle Kingdom? especially in the last ten or twenty years. Firstly, it tends to develop in whatever it is doing far quicker than almost all outside predications. Secondly, China, just as it did with its ?socialist market economy?, tends to find its own way. The same broad brush strokes apply for golf. Just as surpassing Japan?s gross domestic product in the second quarter of 2010 confirmed China?s status as an economic power, China?s position as a global tournament host has also been confirmed. It took just one edition of the HSBC Champions as a World Golf Championships event to complete a process started by the Volvo China Open, the first truly international Chinese professional event in 1995, to...
