Who will rebound faster, Tiger Woods or Elin Nordegren?
2010-08-25 23:20:00
Elin Nordegren-People Mag Now that the divorce is final, the former wife of Tiger Woods , Elin Nordegren, is speaking out. Tiger, on the other hand, remains silent...but, hasn't he said enough already? (see note below) After nine months of letting Tiger Woods command the stage with his numerous teary-eyed tantrums and public apologies, Elin is now taking to the periodicals beginning with the latest People Magazine in which she tells "My Own Story." This issue is going to sell a lot of copies! ?I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock," says Nordegren in a World Exclusive, "to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children.?  Although Elin "has been through hell", she now feels "stronger than I ever have" although I don't think it's because she is now a very wealthy woman. Will Tiger Woods will be able to move on and play golf with the same determination as in the past or will he continue to be he trapped by his own i...

McGladrey Classic joins the 2010 Kodak Challenge
2010-08-20 16:05:00
Kodak and the PGA TOUR today announced that hole Number 13 at The McGladrey Classic on October 7-10 has been added to the 2010 Kodak Challenge schedule. Infamous (?) number 13 at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, GA was selected based on the recommendation of tournament host Davis Love III. The McGladrey Classic will be the 27th of 30 holes in the $1 million Kodak Challenge competition. Rickie Fowler currently leads the Kodak Challenge at 12-under-par. ?Basically unchanged since its original design in 1920, Number 13 at the Seaside Course is a classic par-4, as beautiful as it is challenging,? said Love. ?For this reason, it fits perfectly into the Kodak Challenge. The late season action of the Kodak Challenge looks to be exciting again this year, and we?re pleased that the players and fans of The McGladrey Classic can be a part of it.? The Kodak Challenge celebrates beautiful holes and memorable moments on the PGA TOUR and challenges players to perfor...

Can the Innovative Axis1 Putter Help Lower Your Golf Score?
2010-08-18 17:35:00
The new Axis1 putter has received its share of accolades, from "Most Innovative Putter" to "Best New Golf Product". The creator of the "Eagle" putter (Luis Pedraza) adopted a scientific approach to this "alien-looking" flat stick (?) giving it a shape that it not only looks unique but for many performs when the heat is on. The Axis1 Eagle putter was designed to be perfectly balanced so that it resists being "pulled open" when twisted in your hands allowing you to lighten your grip without the clubface opening. The weight is pushed forward "with a patented heel counter weight that places the center of gravity right on the center of the striking face perfectly aligned with the axis of the shaft." The result is that the golfer should have fewer off-line putts, resulting in lower scores. But, isn't a putter a very personal golf club? You have to like it, from the feel within your grip to the style of it. The putter should instill confidence each time you pull it out of your golf ba...

Arthritic Phil Mickelson turns vegetarian
2010-08-12 00:40:00
I wonder if Phil Mickelson ever thought about the consequences of turning forty and the possible unwelcome side-effects? (credit)   Five days before the U.S. Open (and right before his big birthday), Mickelson awakened with "intense pain" and couldn't move. Lefty's doctor visit found him to be suffering from psoriatic arthritis but a weekly treatment of shots seems to have put the symptoms under control.   A friend of mine once mentioned that turning forty was no picnic; to be wary of the bevy of doctors visits, new meds that you will be taking, etc... and now I'm getting worried!     From doctor's visits to a 'one-eighty' turnaround in diet, Phil Mickelson is a changed man. A veggie burger doesn't really taste like the real thing, no matter how much you tell yourself it does but, after a few bites, it's not so bad.   Mickelson said of his new-and-improved diet, "As long as I believe that there’s a possibility that it will help me ...

Golf in the Coastal Provinces of Atlantic Canada
2010-08-09 18:02:00
I must admit, when I first accepted the assignment to spread the word about the once-in-a-lifetime Golf Coastal Canada Adventure Contest, I didn't know much about Atlantic Canada, its provinces or heritage. A bit of internet research and a passion for golf and travel led me to reasons why I want to visit 'The True North Strong and Free'. For those golfers who have never ventured into Atlantic Canada, there are four distinct provinces with flavors all their own: Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick , Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The Atlantic provinces are not only meant for vacationers seeking to play golf at some amazing courses, but they are also filled with endless dining and cultural opportunities, making this a "must-see" region for those searching for a multifaceted Canadian adventure. Prince Edward Island (PEI or 'the Island' for short) is the smallest and greenest province where it is said 'the air and water are fresh and clean'. PEI is known for fresh lobster and Ma...

Award-winning Garden State Fireworks created this great show at the 2010 Peekskill Celebration . If you wait until the end of this video you will hear that there was a fire on the barge but all turned out okay. The song playing in the background is "Hey Soul Sister" by Train . I love fireworks displays! Lucky for me that there are plenty of fireworks in the Hudson Valley Region, from Peekskill to the great Macy's fireworks display in New York! ENJOY!

Five Golf Tips from Michael Strahan?
2010-08-06 16:07:00
Michael Strahan, fifteen year NY Giants football great, helps actor Brian Baumgartner from "The Office" with the mental side of golf in the webisode, "Golf Therapy: Life Lessons and the Pursuit of Par". Here are five psychological tips that I took away from the video which Strahan has used on the football field but can also help you on the golf course: 1. Never let other golfers see you are tired. 2. Don't quit. 3. The only person who can beat you is you. 4. When you swing and you hit a bad shot, when you are thinking too much, your inside your own head and blocking yourself. 5. Get over the golf ball and say (don't scream like in the video), "I OWN you...this is MY field" How much do YOU love this game?

Nine natural reasons to vacation in New Hampshire
2010-08-04 18:48:00
Moose with babies in New Hampshire From the scenic White Mountains Forest Preserve to the numerous waterfalls and covered bridges, New Hampshire is truly a nature lover's paradise! The USA is filled with natural preserves but sometimes it is up to us to go out and discover them, and so we did on a recent trip to the Mt. Washington Valley, North Conway area. Here are a few reasons to seek out nature in New Hampshire: 1. Moose will forage by the side of the road offering the perfect "photo-opp". In our case, this mom (called a "cow") brought her little ones along; unfortunately this chance encounter caused a traffic jam right at the base of Mt. Washington! 2.Mt. Washington Auto Road: drive yourself 6,388 feet to the summit or take the guided van tour (both for a fee). Before your adventure, ask the front desk for a tour of carriage house where you will see how travelers ventured up the mountain before modern conveniences! Be aware: They make you "climb" the rocks to the stake a...

Forsgate Country Club hosts golf writers with third annual Writer Cup Tourn
2010-07-28 23:12:00
Tomorrow marks the third annual "Writer Cup", a tradition begun by Forsgate Country Club to celebrate golf writers of the MET/GAP regions. There are two courses at Forsgate CC, the Banks and Palmer Courses. We're invited to play the historic Banks Course which is lush and deeply bunkered as compared to the Palmer Course which is laden with water hazards. I prefer sand to water any day on a golf course! Designed in 1931 by Charles ?Steamshovel? Banks, the Banks Course is a par 71 which stretches to 6,844 yards from the tournament tees and is a true test of skills for the above average golfer. This is probably why I'll stick with the forward tees during this tournament! Here are some recent accolades about Forsgate Country Club: Jersey Golf er Winter 2006 Magazine ranked the Banks Golf Course at Forsgate Country Club #10 among the top 50 Best Golf Courses in the state of New Jersey. "The Met Area's Top 50 Courses", The Met Golfer, April 2007 "The Best of Northeast Golf"; 200...

New Hampshire Lodging and Dining from 1785
2010-07-27 15:42:00
After about a five and a half hour drive from New York, it was refreshing to finally enter the North Conway area in Mt. Washington Valley, New Hampshire . Main Street is an eclectic mix of restored beauty brimming with both antique and contemporary shops. It's a "must-see" village for anyone wishing to experience what it was like to live during the times of our nation's independence! The Eastern Slope Inn was "home" for the first leg of our trip and is a graceful yet imposing structure on the National List of Historic Places. Dating back over one hundred years, Eastern Slope Inn blends history with modern amenities. We stayed in the newly built Whitaker House "Suites". This part of the resort is only accessible to the Inn via a long tunnel. The drive around the building to our door and the entry into the room from the parking lot felt more like a motel than the cozy ambience we anticipated when we first checked in. Also our window shades remained drawn and the air conditioner was...

New Hampshire's Turn of the Century Charm
2010-07-24 15:33:00
Our turn-of-the-century adventure began at the Eastern Slope Inn Resort, a North Conway, New Hampshire landmark National Historic Landmark since 1864. It sites smack-dab in the middle of the Village and exudes charm right from the street. We traveled about three blocks or so down the road to the North Conway Country Club, a public "welcoming" golf course in which several generations were represented.  The front nine was created in 1895 but the back nine was not added on until 1976 with the Clubhouse finally erected in 1985. North Conway CC is scenic right off the first tee. Take a look and you decide: Here are some impressions of North Conway Country Club. The fairways are undulating and the greens are deceptive. You might think that there is a lot of break on the front nine greens but I found it easier to aim right for the hole. The back nine has more breaks on the green than on the front nine. It is flat and walkable but a cart is recommended to keep the foursomes movin...
Mt. Washington Valley, New Hampshire - Main Street USA
2010-07-21 05:32:00
Five and a half hours from New York quietly sits Mt. Washington Valley, New Hampshire .  As you can see from the photograph below, it has an old town feel with antique shops, eateries and the beautiful view of the mountains hanging over the horizon. Hungry after a long trip and right near the Eastern Slope Inn is a typical-looking bar/restaurant called Delaney's Hole in the Wall. Their website claims that they have the "best wings in New Hampshire" and so we put them to the test.  The bartender told us to try the "double-baked honey hot wings" even though they weren't on the menu (in other words, they'll make them for you if you ask nicely.) Simply put, we agree! The wings are large and very flavorful, so much so that we are picking up an order for the ride home!   Posted via email from stacysolomon's posterous

Five Minutes to Tee-Time...Are YOU Ready to Play Golf?
2010-07-19 18:24:00
Most golfers at one time or another have raced to the first tee without preparation, hoping for the best. "Maybe it'll only take a few holes before I get my swing going," we may think to ourselves but that sort of thinking can cost you strokes! The "5 Minutes to Tee-Time " website makes an interesting point, that "the average golfer ?gives away? anywhere from 3-5 strokes in the first few holes of the golf round, not because they are bad golfers?but because they are NOT prepared to swing the club." Here are a few Sample Movements from their website designed to get the blood flowing and shake off the effects of sitting behind a desk all day.   Stretching will not only help you physically before a round of golf but it will also give afford you increased confidence and better consistency right from the first tee. Mickelson and Woods blowing in the wind at British Open?
2010-07-17 15:31:00
Will Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods take a back seat to Oosthuizen at this year's British Open ?   "I need some luck," said a dejected Phil Mickelson after his second round of the British Open concluded. Disappointed that he wasn't driving the ball very well, a little bit of luck could have meant that he hoped the rest of the crowd didn't fare much better, and they didn't yesterday, with not a single player breaking par after Mickelson left the 18th green.   Tiger Woods, when asked by a journalist yesterday if he was "willing to cut out all those tantrums this week and respect the home of golf?" Tiger responded, "I'm trying to become a better player and a better person, yes."   Yes, Tiger Woods, tantrums and outbursts just won't be tolerated. A calm steely attitude could go a long way at St. Andrews, especially on moving day.   Early this morning, out of the thirty golfers completing the second round, three came out in red numbers, including amateur Jin Jeong (70), A...

Loch March Golf Course: Inspiring Publinks in Ottawa
2010-07-15 16:30:00
Public golf courses that are both challenging and inspirational are a thorny issue. You want to invite your friends to play but, in the same vein, you hope word doesn't spread so that you are always assured a tee time! Such is the state of affairs at Loch March Golf & Country Club in Kanata, Ontario. Considered "impressive" by players who have made this their "slice of golf paradise" could become a double-edged sword as Loch March considers itself "exclusively public" with no memberships nor initiation fees, fully accessible to the masses. Carved from three-hundred acres of unspoiled forest, Loch March is ranked as one of the twelve best public golf courses in Ontario. The Course stretches to just under 7,000 yards with four sets of tees to choose from. A "risk/reward" test of skills for all abilities, Loch March allows you to play with different levels of golfer, from beginner to advanced, and impels you to use all of the clubs in your bag. Michelle Wie "out", Creamer "in" as new face of LPGA?
2010-07-13 15:56:00
In his recent blog, Chuck Curti said that, as golf fans are waiting for Michelle Wie to live up to her potential and become the "Tiger Woods" of the LPGA, Paula Creamer may be stepping in to become the next "heroine" of women's professional golf.   "We?re still waiting." Curti woefully conveyed. "Wie has not yet lived up to her potential, and her performance at the U.S. Women?s Open last week was nothing short of putrid."   Where the Wie conundrum is certainly true, Paula Creamer, the girl who up until her win this weekend at the U.S. Women's Open never won a major, has now "earned the right to be the face of women's golf?"   Although Paula Creamer has nine career wins and is still a youngster at 23, how many golf fans have watched the LPGA  golf to get a glimpse of the Pink Panther making a tremendous save? How many more will do so now that Creamer is a major winner?   Perhaps Creamer's career "incentive" of working through a thumb injury to perform at the level it ta...

Michelle Wie says "Tomorrow is a Whole New Day" at U.S. Open

Here is the Michelle Wie transcript after an apparent first round golf meltdown at the U.S. Women 's Open . At least Wie remains positive and when you are positive there is still hope! Will Michelle Wie make the cut? Oakmont is not allowing for easy scoring and the current projected cut is +11! MICHELLE WIE Q. You found yourself 8 over after eight holes. Must be dejecting. What do you say to yourself? It's not easy to make birdies and make up that ground. MICHELLE WIE: Oh, yeah, it's like I'm playing fantastic right now. It's a great day. But, I felt a little better. Hopefully tomorrow will be a lot better. Q. What are the things you need to improve on tomorrow? MICHELLE WIE: Everything. (Laughing.) Q. That's a tall order. MICHELLE WIE: Hopefully I can pull it off. Q. What kind of positives can you take away from today? MICHELLE WIE: Positives? You know, I'm trying to find 'em. You know, just had a couple of good shots out there. I say a couple. Not many. But hop...

Michelle Wie sings the U.S. Open blues
2010-07-08 18:43:00
Round one of the U.S. Women 's Open is underway and it looks as if Michelle Wie is already struggling to stay above the cut line! Yet another climb to mediocrity for the golfer who was once on everyone's lips as the female Tiger Woods!   The LPGA leaderboard currently has Wie's score at +9 with three double bogeys, several bogeys with a few pars thrown in to add a little spice to the mix. Perhaps it would have been better if Michelle would have failed to qualify as it was during the 2009 Open where Wie wound up missing the cut by one stroke.   Sure Oakmont Country Club is a tough test but major tournaments are meant to bring out the best golfers and everyone is playing under the same conditions so, since there is plenty of golf left to play, get busy Michelle. ?It?s always a grind,? Wie says of the national tournament. ?It?s a tough golf course. I just have to play the best I can and come out on top.?   Recent tweets by Michelle Wie ("themichellewie"): On Oakmont CC  10...

Top Golf Travel Destinations from Conde Nast - Fact or Phony?
2010-07-06 17:00:00
The Top 80 Golf Travel Destinations in the June edition of Conde Nast Magazine were taken to task by golf and travel writer Larry Olmstead who has trouble understanding why some of golf courses and "dream destinations" were left off the list. These vacation hot spots, mentions Conde Nast, were chosen by thousands of resort golfers based on varying standards from course design, golf staff, rooms and service, dining and location. The subjective nature of the article should hardly be perceived of as "stupid journalism" and should only be considered as a guideline for golfers sitting on the fence about where to travel and what golf courses to consider. Four Seasons Resort, Maui at Wailea, Blue Course In his first article about the "stupid in golf journalism", Olmstead states that, "a single respondent can make the difference between a property being ranked among the best in the world or being left off the list." In his third tirade against the Conde Nast Magazine article, Mr. Olms...

Hilton Head Island, a golf and ocean lovers paradise!
2010-07-02 00:41:00
Hilton Head Island has some of the most pristine beaches and prestigious golf courses in South Carolina, as well as the most blood-thirsty mosquitoes that I have ever encountered. Sunscreen, bug spray and a great camera are necessities for this adventure! On my first visit to Hilton Head a few years back I was a golf beginner and so Hilton Head golf was not a top priority: it was all about the sun and fun surrounding the island. My husband and I chose to stay at Sea Pines Resort, a 5,000 acre sprawling enclave of rental apartments, villa rentals, hotels and an inn spanning a third of the entire Island. The Resort is also home to Harbour Town Golf Links, home to the PGA Tour's Verizon Heritage event (congrats to Jim Furyk!) Harbour Town is also named as one of the ten most beautiful golf courses in the country by ForbesTraveler.com and crowned as the number twelve resort course in the nation. Although I considered it essential to have access to the amenities which make the stay ...

Ask.com, a question and answer site that receives more than one million specific questions everyday, researched the most frequently asked golf questions on its site. You may think these are all basic questions but how many of you actually know all the answers? Naturally, I have placed my snarky comments below each answer, in red ink. Top Ten Questions about Golf on Ask.com 1. What does golf stand for? A. The word golf likely originated from the Medieval Dutch word "kolf" or "kolve" which meant "club".I thought the word GOLF was an acronym for Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden! LadiesLoveGolf.com has a similar opinion 2. How long does it take to play 18 holes of golf? A. Four hours is the estimate most people give for 18 holes. My answer depends on if you play the publinks in which a round of golf has taken me up to six hours! 3. Kerr's trophy larger but Watson has better payday with "dream performances"
2010-06-28 21:04:00
Cristie Kerr's record-setting twelve stroke victory at the LPGA Championship left her in a dream-like state. Bubba Watson 's teary-eyed acceptance of his first PGA Tour win at the Travelers Championship was exciting to boot as he was the last man standing in a three-man playoff. Since I could not be at both events in the tri-state area, I chose the Travelers in order to meet-up at a "tweet-up" with Patricia Hannigan (aka golfgirl from Golf Girl Media). I can't wait to see the pictures she took and I'm sure she'll post them soon. Here are pictures of Cristie Kerr, winner of the LPGA Championship and Bubba Watson, fellow left-handed golfer, victor at the Traveler's Championship and first-time winner on the PGA Tour. Kerr aced the bigger trophy (and $337,500) but Bubba Watson walked off with the larger check ($1,080,000!)

After the U.S. Open, why golf fans need the Travelers Championship
2010-06-24 21:58:00
After last week's lackluster U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, here are five reasons why you should either watch the Travelers Championship on television this week or take a drive and see it live if you live within a close enough radius of Cromwell, Connecticut (I'm on that two-hour cusp!) 1. The natural beauty of TPC River Highlands golf course and holes 15-18 in particular have been written about extensively and need to be seen to be appreciated. Highlands is the opposite of Pebble Beach, in my opinion, and both are equally beautiful. PGA Tour on Facebook asked if fans have any tips for the pros playing at TPC River Highlands this week (join the conversation!) Answers ranged from mine which was more tempered to those who have a "grip it and rip it" mentality. I said (Stacy Solomon): Lay-up on #15, go deep to avoid false front on #16th green, consider water in play on #17 & bunker on right of 18th green may be better than facing than facing swale on left. Should Barack Obama be criticized for playing golf while oil spills?
2010-06-23 00:53:00
Barack Obama has been taking some leisure time as of late, playing a round of golf, taking in a White Sox baseball game, and getting criticized for doing it. RNC Chairman Michael Steele stated, "As oil continues to spill in the Gulf and unemployment hovers at 10 percent, the President can no longer take his eye off the 'oil.' '' Very punny, Mr. Steele! Mr. Steele does have a point with regards to Obama's treatment of the oil spill. In my opinion, the President waited almost two months to connect with BP Chairman Tony Hayward and, after a twenty-minute closed door meeting, came away with a whopping $20 billion settlement that BP may or may not have in its coffers. The taxpayer is going to wind up with the burden once again unless the public helps come up with solutions. RT @stephlovescards Have u seen this? http://bit.ly/9eQeFY #Obama #BP take notice and clean up the oil spill already! "President Obama finds himself on yet another golf course as oil continues to spew i...
